OK, watched Star Trek. Hmmm. Traveling through a black hole? Really? And why no cameo by Shatner? Otherwise, it was fun.
I tend to tease friends I like a lot, but I notice that doesn't always translate well in a textual environment like the internet.
@geekandahalf Oh yeah? I have one with my birthstone set in it. (I don't wear it much) Trust the pinkie ring. 8-P

Decisions, decisions. Watch a movie or listen to you guys.
Which movie? - Derrick
Can't decide on that, either. Star Trek or Milk. - Jack (a.k.a. Jeber)
Both are very good, but very different. Milk made me cry. Star Trek...did not, but I liked it. - Derrick
Apple’s Reported Lala Talks Could Lead to Cheaper, Cloud-Based iTunes | Epicenter | Wired.com - http://www.wired.com/epicent...
Apple is in talks to buy the Lala music service, according to Bloomberg sources. If that acquisition materializes, it will fill a big hole in Apple’s digital music strategy: the cloud. An iTunes integration of Lala’s ad-free music service — which stores music collections online and sells deeply-discounted streaming songs — would mark the first major step forward for iTunes since its music download store launched in 2003. - Jack (a.k.a. @BrotherRichard Hate to play the grammar nazi, but "ran" in the post title should be "run".

Will cell phones ever replace the PC?
Nope. Not in their current form. - Rahsheen ™, Coach "Red"
Think further down the line, say 10 years in the future. What do PCs offer that cell phones couldn't do equally well? Games? - Jack (a.k.a. Jeber)

I have one word for you.... ergonomics. - Adrian
AC Power - Curtiss Grymala
Nope - Mo Kargas
The PC will certainly evolve, but I definitely don't see it being completely replaced with cell phones. There are too many downsides to using a cell phone as your exclusive computer that I just don't see ever overcoming. Can you imagine trying to develop a fully functional Web site with a cell phone? - Curtiss Grymala
Of course, I also don't think the "cloud" will ever fully replace local data storage, either. - Curtiss Grymala
The cloud I think will work out fine over local storage... we're almost there, but nothing will overcome the physical limitations of a cell phone in productivity. I could see a cell phone being the "core" of a system that links to a screen / keyboard / mouse. Incidentally do you guys think it's too soon to call the keybaord / mouse / screen combo "terminal technology" in the same way a desk, chair and pen are? - Adrian
Agree with Adrian. It's mostly a UI problem. - Rahsheen ™, Coach "Red"
We aren't that far away from painting UIs on eyes, or on glasses, or having them projected in space. Once that happens the PC won't be needed as smart phones will have like 64 cores and 1 PB of flash. - Todd Hoff
Todd, and what are you going to do at work? Stand around and wave your hands like Tom Cruise in that movie? I don't think so. I'll be surprised if it comes to that. Think about it. We still use keyboards even though we've had voice recognition software for a long time. The mouse is very precise, quick and comfortable for manipulating a UI. Touchscreens have issues with long-term comfort that would also relate to an "airborne" interface. - Adrian
I've found voice recognition slow, quirky, and intrusive in an office setting. Waving our hands around seems pretty similar to waving our fingers around while typing and no less crazy than people talking to themselves over bluetooth. I hate the mouse. It hurts my wrist and fingers and they never fit my paw. - Todd Hoff
That's exactly it, voice recognition was not an improvement. Typing on a keyboard is faster as you can do it by touch. IMHO, the keyboard is *not* going away in favor of an airborne interface. As far as mice, try the Logitech MX500 series - best mouse ever made. - Adrian
No way. - Amy

@MarkDykeman I'd love to find some use for Wave. Any use would be a start.
@jonmcculloch Have all his albums. Great songwriter. Beel has got to be my favorite.
@jchutchins Are you on a Mexican radio?
Xtians deny their religion is based on pagan traditions. How many Douglas fir trees grow naturally in Jerusalem?
The fir tree/Christmas tree is not exactly at the center of Christian theology, you know. Its use dates from the Roman Saturnalia, where evergreen was used to symbolize fertility. The date of Christmas is the feast day of St. Nicholas, a bishop of what is now Turkey. C.S.Lewis has a wonderful little short story that attempts to differentiate "exmass" (the civic celebration) from "crissmas" (the religious festival that, for some weird reason, falls at the same time). - Glen Mistletoe
BTW, where have you seen Christians deny this? There is much in Christianity that has co-opted (or sanctified) much more ancient pagan traditions. There is a line of thinking that much of the world had glimpses of the Truth (for example, the Dying Servant seen in Greek, Roman, and Middle Eastern mythology) that was revealed in Christ. Easter itself (in the western tradition) no longer adheres strictly to Passover, but follows the lunar cycle set by pagans worshipping the goddess Eostre. - Glen Mistletoe
I moderate a debate forum where Christians frequently deny having appropriated any pagan rites into their theology. We know better, they refuse to accept it. - Jack (a.k.a. Jeber)
