I had to respond to "Everything Shyamalan does is great". The Sixth Sense is his only end-to-end great movie. Other movies had glaring flaws, either related to plot, pace or ending. And Lady in the Water was an unmitigated disaster.

Shyamalan is trying to too hard to come up with the "revelation" ending for all of his movies. Now I find myself just waiting for the "a ha" moment and the last few just haven't been able to meet the 6th Sense threshold.

I don't remember where I went in Seattle. In San Francisco, there's a great Spanish place in the Mission district with $7 haircuts ($10 for flat-tops like mine). In Los Angeles, a guy in Westwood I went to for 12 years. In Ohio, Supercuts - one lady there free-hands flat-tops, like my guy in Los Angeles. NYC never really settled on a place. Jerusalem was great - you could get a super-fancy cut for $15-20 (like a $50-100 cut in the US).

I think you're completely wrong - the old, rich white guy who's perceived as a war hero is going to win, possibly in a landslide. This has nothing to do with my personal preference - although I'm starting to like McCain more and Obama less, that perception might well change by Election Day, and I think either one would make a good President. Aside from the White House, though, I think you're right - the Dems will sweep the other elections this year.

Of the available choices, I don't really care who winds up being president. I would be more than pleasantly surprised if Obama wins. But I fear people living in LA, NYC, Boston, the Bay Area etc are going to wake up one November morning very disappointed at the realization that a lot of the rest of the country doesn't think the same way.

I live in a rural area. The convicted felons who also happen to be my neighbors used to have a habit of shooting the neighborhood dogs (they felt they were protecting their peacocks). They would also take the occasional potshot at people they didn't like. Eventually the police took their guns away (felons aren't allowed to own them) but several dogs died beforehand. My point is that there is a certain kind of person that is all too trigger-happy for anyone's good.

I agree with you Jeff, but I also see Joe's point. Personally, I don't necessarily care if guns are banned. BUT that isn't the solution to violent crime, it's just not that simple. So what if you stop people from having registered guns? The majority of gun crimes in Canada are from weapons smuggled in from the U.S. Shouldn't that be the first priority?

I am not sure what you are asking shey, but I think that registration is a good thing. as far as smuggling guns, criminals are criminals, and if it is not a gun , then it will be a knife or a bomb or a baseball bat. they will use whatever means necessary to commit the crime. it is a broad question that really does not have an answer. I am just glad I can protect myself and my family with one if I choose.

I don't like guns - nothing but trouble. My friends think it's humorous that I was in the military 10 years and have never shot one. I did shoot a laser gun though. Pew pew.

I don't like guns either, but what's the solution? In the VA Tech shooting and the one before that, the guys had legally registered guns. But the majority of gun-related crime in DC and Baltimore (2 high crime, high violence areas) is from illegal guns. I agree that even if you stop the guns, crime will continue unabated.

I think this vector is self-limiting, since it relies on curiosity clickthrough from friend notifications. Eventually we'll just stop clicking on them. A smarter spammer would just leave comments on every item in the public feed.

Since FriendFeed subscriptions are one-way, do you actually see the spam? One of our goals with our subscription system is that its one-way nature would help shield you from spam (just unsubscribe from the person who spammed you).

Well; she subscribed to me, I got an email, clicked on her profile and realized it was probably spam so didn't reciprocate the friendship. Since she friended me once she can't friend me again so I'll never get another email from her and it isn't really too bad. But I can imagine getting more than a few of these a day could be annoying.

We could speculate that Starbucks has optimized their business process: minimize labor costs while creating a perception of higher demand, which lets them charge more. They also want to be a destination, hoping you go there to see and be seen and maybe spot a friend and stay to chat and buy more stuff. Or, maybe, just too many damn people drink coffee.

If you sold an addictive product, you might also have a line. They also happen to have a terrific brand that lines of coffee drinkers (addicts and non-addicts) seems to enjoy enough to wait for.

It's worse in larger metro areas like SF and LA. In the Midwest (other than the ground floor of the Sears Tower), the only time you'll see bad lines is in the early morning rush

acedanger It's not just you. They over roast the beans. Gives it a burnt taste. Not my taste and I drink a lot of coffee. I actually prefer Dunkin Donuts coffee, but at Starbucks I am partial to a Venti Carmel Skinny Latte.

If you find Starbucks over-roasted (and it is, terribly), you might want to give their new drip brew ("Pikes Place") a try -- it's considerably lighter roasted and better. As a bonus, it's the cheapest coffee drink on the menu.
