I'm waaay late to the blogging party, but does a "links I like" interface list count? - sergiooooooo
I still use one. I only rel=nofollow large sites; still share the link love with other bloggers. - Sprague D
sergiooooooo, yes, if its a roll in your sidebar. They're not extinct, but they are rare these days. Sprague, good to see you're still keeping the spirit alive - Duncan Riley
I used to use one, but it seemed as soon as I'd update it, people would go inactive, or I'd have to change it again. (Examples: GeekWhat and Kent Newsome, both who just about fell off the map) Now, I think the Google Reader shared items blog gives a good enough clue as to what I read and find important. - Louis Gray
I found that no one ever clicked on them so I removed it. It was just noise. - Kevin
I'm on the same boat as Kevin. No one ever clicked on them so, I just got rid of it. I have a section for "friends" that include a couple of blogs but that's it. - Candace Holly
I have one on my dembot blog and really believe in it. - Andrew Baron
My blogroll would probably span a few screens.. Anyway blogroll feels slightly 1990s.. Don't you think so? - Winston Teo
Which reminds me, I need to update my blogroll. - J. Phil
Still maintain one but update it about once a month as things change - Charlie Anzman
I still use them, but only for close contacts. I like them. - Jim Kukral
I once used them, when Zeldman was that name in the bottom of every blogroll (go figure why ;-) ) and then I stopped blogging - directeur via NoiseRiver
In my opinion, the best use for a blogroll is for a _short_ list of _related_ blogs that the reader can hit in order to get more information on the topic. The "600 blogs I read every day" doesn't seem to me to be the best use of a blogroll. - possible248
I'm trying to convince myself to compile a decent blogroll since 2002:) - Federico Giacanelli
Perhaps it's time to convert the blogroll to a micro-blogroll. Better yet, I would like to display the people I find interesting (at friendfeed) as a widget. - Czar Derek Peterman
I recently dropped the blogroll on my blog. No one ever bothered clicking the links. What people do click are the links in my blog posts (yes, it does still happen). The blogs to which I link regularly in my blog posts are a much better barometer of the ones I follow than my blogroll ever was. I really didn't keep the blogroll up to date. - Hutch Carpenter
Hmm, regardless of clicks, SEO's understand that a blogroll link is a vote in Google, or at least indexing priority. If you really like someone, you'll tell Google about their blog by blogrolling them. I never nofollow those. - Brian Carter
Czar: How do you describe your "intersting" people at friendfeed? - directeur via NoiseRiver
I have it on good authority that a new blogroll widget is in the works that will bring blogrolls back - well at least with this crowd. I probably shouldn't say who and I don't know when, but it sounds like it will be dynamic and awesome. So don't count them out just yet - David Knight
I have, in the past, advocated screwing them. http://allied.blogspot.com/200... - jeneane sessum
My blogroll was too long for my sidebar, so I used to have a separate links page. I should clean it up and bring it back. Need to add a TON of social media bloggers I've been introduced to via FriendFeed these past few weeks. :D - Nathaniel Payne
are blogrolls that hump of cheese n the back of your fridge? :) - (jeff)isageek via fftogo
How about this for a theory: The blogroll has been superceded by Twitter and FriendFeed as the easiest way to track and associate oneself with others that are active, interesting and influential in social media - Daniel Young
It's crazy to me how many have dumped them when it's the first step in being social online if you have a blog... good for blogger to blogger luv and also good for pointing your visitors to additional related resources of value, so good all around. - Scott Bannon via twhirl
Duncan, this is so true. I was literally thinking late last night about doing a post on this as I was tidying up my own (relatively new) blog a bit and looking at the standard blogroll links that came with my Wordpress template. I had a quick look at a few fairly well-known blogs and there wasn't a blogroll in sight.. - Matt Hooper
Regarding the value of blogrolls for Google SEO. Check out this thread, about 3/4 the way down, for a comment on that by Adam Lasnik (Google search evangelist): "be careful about making assumptions on how Google does or will weight 'constant' links ;-" (http://friendfeed.com/e/7c7d98...) - Hutch Carpenter

Blegh - 5% alcohol? Colby's right: I'm apparently drinking soda. :P - Nathaniel Payne
HEART BURN - Akiva Moskovitz
More like adult Kool-Aid. Not even a close cousin of vodka, which is why they call it a "malt beverage" and can sell it in the grocery stores here, which can't even carry wine. - Cyndy
Akiva wins. I have discovered 20 minutes later that this is nothing more than heart burn in a bottle. Guh. :P - Nathaniel Payne

It's exciting watching how beneficial Friendfeed is becoming to all of us. - Mike Fruchter
Thanks Mike, you've been doing some pretty kewl stuff in FriendFeed yourself. - Shey

Interesting I don't see Robert Scoble on your list, nor do I see several other very 'noisy' people. Was wondering how you have avoided having them show up on your stats page? - Jeff P. Henderson
Jeff: The link was written by Michael Fruchter - http://friendfeed.com/e/e8a1b5... - Justin Korn
Yep, I realized that after I posted... - Jeff P. Henderson
Thanks for the list. Will follow them for a while to see if they are worth it. - Ansgar Wollnik
36 'likes' on the original article, 5 'likes' on Louis Gray's 'bookmarked on del.ico.us', shouldn't friendfeed offer a combined 'like' view or variant? Your opinion? - ingo ju
Ansgar: Yep, they're worth it - all 10 are keepers!! - Susan Beebe
I have been wondering recently if and when FF will open up some statistical data - not just on follower numbers, but on rate of change perhaps. - Jonathan Beckett
I have them all as friends that I follow. I would add Corvida to the list as well. - (jeff)isageek
Yes, I second add Cordiva to the list - Fred Grott
Louis, for Friday: How to tell who REALLY wrote the post. Because you are taking credit for EVERYONE!!! - Cyndy
@Cyndy and @Louis - I love the "Show Domains" Greasemonkey script from FFApps. It shows the link's domain out beside every link. So as I scroll down FF I can always tell where the article came from. Link -http://www.ffapps.com/showdoma... - Franklin Pettit
lol@Cyndy - Shey
Yeah, see, won't use Greasemonkey. ;) - Cyndy
Thanks everyone. Jeff I do agree, Corvida should be on that list. I need to stalk her more on Friendfeed :) I think I might expand on that list at some point, and maybe do a post on 50 people one should follow on FF. - Mike Fruchter
Mike: Oh I like that idea... please do the 50 people to follow list! - Susan Beebe
@Cyndy, it's funny, but I had actually thought about that. It is becoming a recurring theme. - Louis Gray

Summize would be doomed by being bought out... At least right now, they have the option of expanding to other networks such as friend feed, and brightkite, if they really wanted to! - Joel

I hope they buy up a few of the best apps that have been developed over the last year. They need to innovate, and it's people outside of Twitter who are developing the coolest stuff. Hopefully those people can help them integrate functionality into the site and bring new ideas! - Hillary Hartley
this is smart for twitter, but generally bad for summize -- although I don't think any of those guys are really high profile and a win like this would work in their favor if they were sick of swinging for the fences. Interesting to see how it plays out. - Tyler Willis
Oh noez... *hears Summize breaking* - Brandice
ok, we got confirmation they were talking, but no confirmation of a deal yet. - michael arrington
"Summize is over capacity". - Daniel Rowley
We'll need to think up new animals/concepts to signify the eventual 'Fail' *I'm thinking of photoshopping up a chalkboard with an incorrect calculation* - Jake Fudge
They should just buy friendfeed instead... - Colin Brumelle
they'll buy a service that does what they claim to be able to do... smart.. - Absalon Isaac Prieto
this makes it interesting and open for someone else to potentially come in a build a summize-like search across the other networks like brightkite, plurk, friendfeed etc. - Brandon Zeuner

"great post! I think friendfeed can become bigger then just an AM radio station. You have the ability to take one person who might be on 10,15, maybe 20 services and bring it to one central location...for me that is huge with all the people I follow. I think friend feed takes all the info and puts it in a nice clean format that is easy on the eyes and also allows me to share with peole something they may never see because maybe they dont use a service I do but they are still given my content, thoughts, or media." - (jeff)isageek

Kids lit off sparklers, which are legal in las vegas. beyond that...no comment. - Ontario Emperor via fftogo
We went to an Oklahoma City suburb, Mustang where they are legal and there were 15,000 people in the city park setting off fireworks until 11:00 PM. It was awesome! My clothes will smell like gun powder for weeks. I only heard the fire siren twice the whole evening. Some people must have more money than brains. The car beside mine set off some huge ones for more than two hours. I have never seen a professional show that could compare to this. - Paul L. McCord Jr.

I would say blogging, because I count micro-blogging as just a subset of blogging. Meaning...I have really made no choice at all. I still get to do both :) - Rahsheen Porter
Does FF participation count as micro-blogging? I participate in FF a lot more than my blog now. More convenient, easier to start a conversation and keep it going. No self-imposed timetable or post quota to keep up with to make sure enough people are interested in being part of my "audience" (it's built in with FF). Easier to interact with people and get more interaction back. Easier to find the answers to my questions. FF does all I really wanted out of blogging anyway. - Lindsay Donaghe

Wow, twhirlscope down -- gotta try this out - Shey
ah! and I was wondering why my twitter vanity search hit on that topic as I do not like the air apps. but grouping actually would be a reason to try it out. problem: as long as twitter decimates the request rates it is unreliable, but a first step in the right direction. will download it now ;) - Nicole Simon
Louis, I think you're right - there is still innovation happening around Twitter, fortunately. The fact is there is still a huge audience on Twitter and that audience still has the potential to be monetized. I'm even building something around Twitter at the moment. There is still that threat though, that developers could leave if Twitter keeps neglecting them - it's in the back of the mind - Jesse Stay
"feels" like Twhirl. Wish it had FF support...if it does it wasn't obvious from the website. I agree with others that I'd really like to see these Adobe air apps with some better skins - Rob Neville via twhirl
"Now, now, Jeff. I mentioned in the article that I typically prefer native apps or Web apps to AIR apps, but this one is very interesting, at least to me." - That's part of why I like the platform so much.
