"First I think it is great that they are investing in online education. As far of the Student Affairs part this is where it gets tricky. We have to be will to start from scratch. We need to know who these learners are. Are they working, in the military, stay at home moms, traditional college aged students? Most of all I think we cannot use current structure or models for this population."

"Cindy I truly value your opinion as a professional, and you blog post may have slightly opened my mind on the credentialing topic (I'm reserving final judgement until there is a actual plan or program). I do remain skeptical for a few reasons. First as a community that teaches inclusiveness I do not want us to be closed. If we raise the bar will we will draw other form various degrees and backgrounds? Second I do not like the comparison to Dr and Lawyers having their credentialed licenses. That means everything to those professions, and if you lose it your career is over. Their fields are changing and evolving at at a rapid pace which increase the need for CE credit to be competent professionals. Third, I do not see why we are constantly trying to legitimize our profession."

"Jeff, I get that. You have a community around those tweets, and I think you post 3-4 per week not 2 a day. When I was posting bike rides I was doing it daily, and I always had responses from other cyclist. I helps to have that community. BTW I rode 25 miles today."

"That is good insight but is certification a substitute for accreditation? That may be the true overlooked need to create an accreditation for the current higher education graduate programs."

"I have professionals on my staff that do not have Student Affairs degrees, and I have found that a plus. They bring an additional perspective and skill set to the team. Yes it is true they are not well versed in student development theory, so we have professional development sessions, I give them self guided professional development time, and try to have a theory of the month in staff meetings. I could see value in certification if there were great professional development certification programs on a niche area such as technology, but for the profession as a whole I do not understand the need. It will be interesting to see what the certification process will look like, how it is measured, and what the results will be. At first look I am skeptical, but interested to see the delivery methods and outcomes of the team."

"Virginia I have that issue. Not only do I have a common name there is another Jeff Jackson that is a hockey coach so he will get more press than me that will also rank him higher. I have made it a point to get the name JeffJackson when ever I can, and have written a ton of blog post. And I could not get the .com domain so I purchased the .co I would also recommend trying to link as many of these profile pages together if you can, esp Google + and LinkedIn that can increase your SEO. I just check and today I have 1 mention on the 1st page of google, and 2 on the 2nd page."
