The biggest Internet workaholic I have ever met was Qi Lu, my cubical neighbor when we were both at Y! He did 15+ hour work days, 7 days a week, non-stop, absolute machine. I guess that impressed Balmer, to get him the gig of President of Microsoft Online starting this month...
- Gene Chuang
Jeremiah: yeah, saw that. Thing is I get mostly paid for my video and I almost always do one a day of those.
- Robert Scoble
I'm not dissing you Robert, read my comment. If community and influence transcends beyond URLs then you're doing the right thing
- Jeremiah Owyang
You might be interested to know that I am NOT "recalibrating my media plan." I don't have one. I'm here and on Twitter to talk, not to be "media."
- Dominic Jones
We're going to see a lot more of this in 2009 - and it's healthy. People will invest in their own homes, not the watering holes where they hang.
- Steve Rubel
+1 @Dominic...nothing wrong with just being part of the hoi polloi
- .LAG liked that
I thought Twitter was basically just a place to redirect FF posts to no?
- Thomas Hawk
@ Steve Rubel, that certainly makes sense. Most of our readers are not here, but for some good discourse with people who will challenge your thinking, I find FF very stimulating.
- Dominic Jones
Oops, I think I just insulted my blog's readers. I meant to say coming here is refreshing and interesting because it's more diverse. My blog is about one thing, and it gets a little tedious.
- Dominic Jones
I had this problem with Plurk, being on it 24/7. What I've learned and love about Twitter, even with its flaws, is that you don't owe anyone anything. Update at your leisure. Twitter has the one thing many other services don't have: mobility. That's what keeps me on it.
- Allen S.
I had similar thoughts and wrote about them here: http://bit.ly/PZgk . I guess it depends on how or what you use Twitter for, but for the big conversation, Friendfeed is built much better.
- Wallace Wilson
A must read if you have been 'on twitter' too much lately. Funny thing is the coincidence that I also started to use FriendFeed (& check SocialMedian) a couple of days ago for the same reasons. My conclusion is to push messages to t. but to microblog in a personal way on identi.ca/markusmerz and to follow and comment on FF. Twitter just doesn't taste good anymore.
- Markus Merz
I'm still using Twitter a lot but have decided to take more time for FriendFeed as well in '09. I've had an account for several months and wasn't really doing much besides checking in every once in a while. But, now I'm using it a lot more and loving the experience.
- Justin Levy
I'm starting to slow my tweets and increase my FFeed activity, too. How have you supplemented the lack of DM or sending messages (ie, @jowyang I'm starting to...)?
- Matt Albiniak
why not publish your FriendFeed activity to Twitter? You've got a very large following on Twitter and if they saw that the conversation is here, you'll likely help grow FriendFeed (your hiatus brought me here). Or are Louis and Robert in charge of all FriendFeed recruitment?
- Stuart Miniman
Stuart's comment makes a lot of sense - easy to setup cross post from FF (Tools menu) to Twitter.
- Scott Loftesness
Because I have nothing better to do than speculate on Jeremiah's position, I'd assume #2 in "How I do NOT use Twitter" (from http://poprl.com/At9) might answer that question.
- Matt Albiniak
I was just going to say the same for Stuart. You can mirror your native Friendfeed items to Twitter. Just do it.
- Louis Gray
Twitter's not dead, but it's too mainstream though. FriendFeed just rocks.
- imabonehead
Sounds like one of those cigarette personal achievements, "Haven't had a puff in two weeks!"
- Hutch Carpenter
I support feeding Twitter with your FriendFeed activities.. You're a Twitter star anyway.. and I enjoy your tweets..
- Pico Seno
Did I just win a t-shirt or something?
- Matt Albiniak
why don't you just have your FF comments automatically sent to Twitter. Kills two birds with one stone.
- Waynette Tubbs
I continue to be more objective to building momentum on Friendfeed. But, not enough people and companies know about it, or are taking advantage of it, at this time. Looking at the numbers (REF: www.compete.com), I see 556,641 users for November, but there was a monthly drop (Nov 08) in growth, by -12.6%. Not sure why. In defense of Twitter, I believe we're seeing the rise of a global...

I don't want to be known as a "guru", I want to be known for the work that I do, as an analyst and researcher. I produce research reports (products) and help my clients (services).
Thanks for the mention. The correct URL is either http://mix.oracle.com (for Oracle Mix) or http://www.oracle.com/partici... (shows the splash page for the current "Participate with Oracle" campaign). We caught the 500 situation -- will be fixed with the next deploy. ;-)

Working on my weekly status report to my manager. Although she doesn't aske for it, it keeps her up to date and me sane. It's a long email chain (like a blog) that I add to each week, and can see my career progress
Can you take the weekend off? Ever? I hope so.
- Liz
That's an excellent way to report to your manager. She will have something in record of your progress and will come in handy in your annual review.

Group therapy here: I hate that I have to workout and watch intake to maintain or reduce weight, all my youth I was underweight. Genetics are a bitch, I'm looking --and sounding-- like my dad more and more. On the flip side, I see the bigger picture, and now that I'm married, don't have to worry about girls, dating, and other growing up issues. It's a fun ride, and I'm enjoying it.
- Jeremiah Owyang
I like that now when I speak people listen, when I was younger that drove me insane. I hate that my body feels second hand already. (28)
- Toby Graham
Love using wisdom I didn't have earlier on when I was younger. I hate trying to get back into shape... it seems to take longer each time I attempt it. [But I'm NOT giving up. :)]
- Kevin C. Tofel
I don't worry so much. I realized at some point "hey, I'm pretty good at what I do" and now I trust my gut. Work sometimes made me a nervous wreck when I was younger (mostly I just cared too much, often about the wrong things).
- Jason Wehmhoener
Hate: Weight gain issues like Jeremiah mentioned; feel tired/run-down faster now; memory loss (which is secondary to having a hugely stressful job!!); not as much of a "looker" now...ignored more in favor of younger women (ouch); rejected more. Love: Respect, knowledge/wisdom factor is awesome!; street smarts, business saavy "capitol", better communication, people / political saavy; historical context is now present (better decisions/info); deeper tech domain knowledge / skill set ... big picture is big!
- Susan Beebe
The first time someone called me "Sir" I stepped out of the way because I thought they were talking to someone behind me. Then I realized. *sigh*. On the upside, I don't worry about *anything* anymore.
- Sprague D
LOVE: the confidence that really understanding yourself brings Don't-Love-so-much - the minor aches and ridiculously longer recovery times
- Marco(aureliusmaximus)
Love: the freedom to do what i want to do, horizontal license, less stress. Hate: the fact that i realize i'm getting older.
- Kyle A Koch
Love: Freedom, more responsibilities, mental growth, and simply growing up through the hardships of life. Hate: Not being able to play in the park anymore cause I'm too big :(
- Bartek Ciszkowski
@Kyle, horizontal license = no one to tell you to get out of bed?
- Toby Graham
I Love that every day i grow more knowledgeable than I grow old. I hate that things to worry about increase faster than anything else (except maybe credit).
- Parth Awasthi
bartek - bu that's what Dave and Buster's, GameWorks, etc. are for
- Jeff Woelker
from twhirl
Hate: noisy knees, gray underarm hair (just one? Where's The Fish?!?) LOVE: being taken more seriously at work, having the confidence that comes from surviving all the weird things I've experienced in my life.
- ha3rvey (wants confit)
I love that people respect me more and more as I get older. I hate that those younger than me respect me lesser and lesser.
- Shey, Jamaican of FF
Love: dancing at parties (at last!) and not care what others might be thinking. Hate: diabetes.
- Bob Kingsley
I love that I can give self-doubt the finger. (finally) Why couldn't I have this confidence and wisdom at 18? ;) I hate the fact that I'm 29 and have some lower-back issues.
- Anna Haro
Hate: feeling compelled to respond to lists like this. Love: having kids.
- Clay Newton
Love the comfort and bonding of a long marriage, watching our kids grow, and the fact that every day is one day closer to heaven. Hate the aches and pains.
- Robert
Love: being able to dance on the sofa with my shoes on while holding a bowl of ice cream. Hate: being the one that has to clean up the ice cream when i drop it on the sofa.
- carlotta fancypants
i love that younger people will listen to me now. I hate that younger people won't listen to me now.
- chartreuse
love: experience, lessons; hate: physical and mental deterioration, people around me getting older.
- ~C4Chaos
Love: learning to accept myself for who I am Hate: Taking 30 years to get there
- Sally: reading a book
Hate that I'm usually the oldest guy in the room, and forgetting that I am :)
- Bryan Thatcher
I love that I had my kids very young (and they are grown!) and that I look young but have all these years of wisdom. I hate that I don't know about half the bands my son listens to so he thinks I know nothing of music. GAH!
- Gina
I've been a kid and am an adult. Adult is better :)
- Michael Gartenberg
Love that I can afford the latest techno gadgets and try out new hobbies. Hate the gray hair and the aching bones after a good workout.
- Alfred C. Chen
Love: feeling more comfortable in my skin, broader perspective, increased earning power, knowing my stuff (most of the time, anyways); Hate: needing so much sleep, wrinkles
- Erin Collopy
Love the wisdom that comes from experience. Hate having to think about how finite our time is.
- LogEx
Love that a growing level of experience and knowledge allows for the generation of a number of ideas. Frustrated by knowledge and skill deficits necessary for successful execution that is revealed by those very same ideas
- Marco(aureliusmaximus)
I hate everytime Vera tells me I sound grumpy like my dad, and in the back of my head, I know I do.
- Dave@yummyporky
I hate that I am no longer "kiddo" at the office. I love that I know all the songs on Guitar Hero and rock harder than my kids:-)
- bdsanchez
Love that I've learned to breathe and what is really important - Hate that I need more time to recover from things.
