"@Hamletlere I never understood that logic. If everyone is paying up to 6% extra, regardless of what method of payment they use, be it credit, debit, or cash, why would anyone not make their purchase on a credit card that gives them 1 - 5% cash back? Until merchants hang signs that say "Save 6% if you pay in cash", I'm going to use my credit card that gives me 5% back. If the merchant decides not to accept credit cards, I'm more likely to shop somewhere else. (And of course, I never carry a balance.)" - Jeff Lundberg
"I love Google, but lets put things into perspective, Google made $4.2 Billion on $16.59 Billion in revenue in 2007, with $17.2 Billion in the bank. That's a lot, right? Microsoft made $14 Billion on $51.1 Billion in revenue in the same period, and has another $40 Billion in the bank. Cisco made $7.3 Billion last year on $34.9 Billion in revenue. So, take Google's profits, multiply it by 3.34, and you have what Microsoft made. Another way to look at it: Google makes 30% of what Microsoft makes." - Jeff Lundberg
"Well said. I recently took a tech job in Detroit's New Center area, just north of the new Tech Town area. Many people don't know this but Michigan ranks 4th nationally in high tech employment, and 2nd or 3rd nationally in R expenditures. Although there has been a loss in manufacturing blue-collar jobs, there is more and more demand for tech jobs in software, web development, engineering, etc. Wayne State University, right in Downtown Detroit is the largest single-campus medical schools in the U.S. According to Globeinvestor.com, Michigan ranked 2nd in new corporate facilities and expansions, lead by Detroit. Downtown Detroit reported $1.3 billion in restorations and new developments for 2006. As alceria said, there's still a long way to go, but it seems like we've hit bottom already and are on the way back." - Jeff Lundberg
