FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
*refresh* ... *refresh* ... *refresh* ... *refresh* ... *refresh* ... *refresh* ... *refresh* ... Looking for a job is strangely reminiscent of old school FriendFeed. *refresh* ... *refresh* ... *refresh* ...
Things have gotten pretty stagnant in my search. I still go through the motions of going to all the sites and sending stuff but just not every single day usually. I keep waiting to hear from one place I've been talking to off and on since right after I lost my job in July, but they are totally on their own unique hiring timetable since they opened a DC office from scratch about the time I started talking to them. - Jeff Quinton
Albeit with fewer pictures of man boobs. One hopes. - DGentry
Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to wait it out for a perfect-fit position: our emergency fund took a pounding this year so I'm lower on resources than I normally would be. I've still got a little wiggle room, but not for much longer... - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
If it weren't for unemployment and Google Adsense income (barely above the minimum monthly) on one of my sites I might be taking almost anything too - but I'm doing freelance consulting (starting that up has been slow) until I get something else (or possibly on the side afterward.) - Jeff Quinton
That's still how my FF works. :) - Rochelle
Unemployment is definitely helping, but it's not a permanent solution, nor is it enough to cover the roof leak we've just discovered (because when it rains it pours, literally and figuratively). - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
:( - Anne Bouey
I made a room with the feeds of half a dozen employment sites' RSS feeds (usually keyword searches around my zip and Craigslist) so I don't have to refresh :) - Jorge Escobar

@Abby that was Adventure in all its blocky castle glory, yup. - TDavid
Used to love Adventure with the keys and dragons. I never had Asteroids but my friends did. Never quite got the hang of it. I would accelerate too much and end up zooming diagonally across the screen out of control. - Barak B
I loved Pitfall Harry. And even broke the score where you can send in a picture of the screen and they'll give you a patch. but dang my mom, she wouldn't take a pic of the screen so no patch for me. It was devestating! - Jason Shultz from twhirl

My new red lips. Not too orange, not too blue. Just right! In case you're curious, I went shopping for warpaint last night (aka "stage makeup" aka "my derby face").
WebCam_20090729_1104.bmp
hawt! - Terry O'Fee
I like you without the lipstick. But since you're going to war, I mean, the derby, this is perfect. - vijay
You look really, Cute Tina. They're no need for that straight face. Have a smile silly :) - Matt Ruiz
:O @ war paint - Moved to Facebook from fftogo
As it's been years since I've actually worn red lipstick, I've remembered that it's darn near impossible to put on properly straight from the tube (need a brush or start off with lip liner). That won't matter much for derby, though: one hit and it'll be smeared all over the place and I'll look like an escapee from the asylum =D - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
the serious face makes it look even better, IMO ;) - Terry O'Fee
What, you've never heard it called warpaint Earl? Maybe it's just me, but that's always how I've thought of makeup (especially when going on job interviews!). - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
looking good tina! - (jeff)isageek
love it, believe me I love it so buy it. - abdellah
nice either way, but this is also a good look. :) - Joe Silence is not dead
I think the Marines recently adopted that shade for the Afghanistan campaign. - Steve C
Okay I am Navy and the comment about the marines wearing Tina's shade of red made me spit water on my monitor. THAT WAS FUNNY! - Moved to Facebook from fftogo
*sagenod* Warpaint is either camouflage or distraction: depending on the circumstances this color should serve either purpose well in battle. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
War paint on the derby floor, you got to be tough! - orionstarr
What about a green or olive lipstick? To go w/ your name? - Joe
PS: I wish you would not have shaved your beard today. - Joe
You look great! Like you are on a special SWAT team - And I volunteer to be 'SWAT-ted' first! :-) - Morgan Haley
Sorry Morgan, I'm pretty sure Dave gets first swatting privileges. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Definitely Hawt - Rahsheen ™, Coach of FF
Smokin Hawt - johnpiercy
Brand and name of color? - Cheryl Jones
Wow. - Bren, Photophobe from iPhone
Cheryl, that's Revelon Matte "In The Red" (color 007, which makes me chuckle). If I put it on lightly it's a bit too pink, but another coat brings it back to brick red. Same thing when it starts to wear off... Feels great for a matte, and no sunscreen so I'm not allergic to it. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
lovely - Mattb4rd
Nice color! - Richard ¿digame? Walker
Nice! :) - Cheryl Jones
Does anyone remember the Cathy comic when red lipstick was popular in the 90s? She felt like a giant pair of red lips walking around all day? That's how I feel when this floats back up my feed! - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Ah, it's, er, getting hot in here... - Dave "Freedom 35"
Wow, absolutely gorgeous. - Ryo / Fuck Facebook
AWEsome, Tina! :-D - Ladybug Heather
Hey Tina in all your pics you never appear to smile, what's up with that? - Mark Essel from iPhone

Friendfeed needs to time-stamp the comments.
Yeah, that is something that I have been thinking about. - Kevin Bondelli
Less thinking more action ;) - Alberto Reyes
A tooltip maybe on hover over the quote graphic. Keep it clean - Andrew Smith
Optional feature - timestamp - not default. - Susan Beebe
great idea! - Sarah Perez
it must be part of the API, since fftogo seems to include a time stamp on the comments - Trent Olson
I'm sure they do store the timestamp, even if it isn't currently displayed. - Mack D. Male
Yeah, it's in the api, all comments & likes are timestamped - Glenn Slaven
I think this is a perfect plan. The only issue I might have is that the time information might take-over the conversations. It might just look more cluttered than FF already is. - Ryne Nelson
It would be useful sometimes. - Morton Fox
concur, very useful to have. Make it a display option. Those who would think it's clutter can turn it off then. - Alexander Falk
It is in the API (I use them in fftogo). I vote that the timestamp should appear as text when you hover over the "thought bubble" to the left. - Benjamin Golub
All comments are time-stamped in AlrertThingy and feedalizr - Stephen B from Alert Thingy
Comments are time stamped in bTT as well. - Francois Bochatay from bTT
and also in twhirl - Marco Kaiser from twhirl
agreed. Timestamps are important - Peter Dawson
What about a comment alert?! How do you follow conversations on ff!? - TommaSorchiotti
Not sure if this will add to the functionality, but should be something they can try out... - Dennis Goedegebuure
Not sure a comment alert is necessary. Comments bring the post up to the top of the timeline, which makes it available for anyone who is currently paying attention to Friendfeed. (Not sure why anyone would want their attention brought to Friendfeed if it isn't already there, that would be a huge productivity drain). - Jason Wehmhoener
Please, please remember that the whole world doesn't run on PDT. I don't want to see timestamps in my FF in gReader and have to always try to guess whether the west coast is 17, 16, or 15 hours behind. If you must display timestamps, please put them in GMT. Setting the timestamps on my FF page/in my FF feed to be correct in my local timezone would be even nicer. - James Polley
yeah ! and a hide fonction for each comment - Jonathan
منم به فارسی تایید می کنم - Kamal
we know which came first... but in n argument the comments can edit. that makes time stamping very important so we know when someone made a change - Noah David Simon
a timeline function in general would be nice, make everything more timeframe friendly - Ruben Llibre
Show times either in GMT or in my own timezone, and just make it a tooltip for the quote balloon or something. Don't want it to look cluttered. - Pat Hawks
just make the time relative from each comment, so I know who said what when in perspective. like 5 minutes later Noah David Simon said. <--this opens up - Noah David Simon
like i said earlier about plurk :) - kosmar
Is i really important to know when every single comment is made? Only the last one would really be useful, could have 'last comment on june 1 at..." right beside the date of the post. - John Duff
If the timestamp is a tooltip, then it isn't really "in the way." Maybe we can have all the timestamps as tooltips, except the most recent comment will have the timestamp printed out below it, like John said. - Rishabh Mishra (p248)
I am so tired of entering an empty room and talking to myself for twenty minutes. lol - Russellreno
A needed feature for sure I agree. I suggested this to the FF feedback room some weeks ago. - Mike Fruchter
Any news? - Amiroo ™
<--- try hover your mouse cursor on that little dialog icon - topo
Sorry it's not more obvious, but if you hover your mouse over the comment icon you will see the time that the comment was made. Thanks for letting us know that it's hard to find! The feedback is much appreciated. - Ross Miller
I believe they are timestamped but this data is not yet displayed.... you're right ! - David Berrebi
other than timestamp I also want to be able to like the comments individually =] - Özgür D. Cyric
This thread shows what happens when nobody reads the comments before theirs - Rahsheen ™, Coach of FF
Agreed. The entire time... - Zachary Poley from twhirl
Rahsheen, your point is awesome right now :) - Zachary Poley from twhirl
this feed tells me that noone reads the comments before theirs =] =] j/k - Özgür D. Cyric
Yes,sure. The problems is how to realize it? - Motor Industry
Ross Miller:Thanks, my bad lots of greasemonkey junk keep me away to recognize that - Amiroo ™

Sometimes the sky itself is the best show in town. In January 2007, people from Perth, Australia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki... gathered on a local beach to watch a sky (Quadruple sky over Great Salt Lake) http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod... light up with delights near and far. Nearby, fireworks exploded as part of Australia Day http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki... celebrations. - Mitchell Tsai
On the far right, lightning from a thunderstorm flashed in the distance. Near the image center, though, seen through clouds, was the most unusual sight of all: Comet McNaught (Magnificent Tail of Comet McNaught) http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod.... The photogenic comet was so bright that it even remained visible though the din of Earthly flashes. - Mitchell Tsai
Comet McNaught has now returned to the outer Solar System and is now only visible with a large telescope. The above image is actually a three photograph panorama digitally processed to reduce red reflections from the exploding firework. - Mitchell Tsai

While Iranians suffer systematic oppression, the internet becomes obsessed with the death of a pop icon. Talk about showing your true values
The news cycle is totally idiotic. There's absolutely no sense of any journalistic prioritization. But at least we can do our own informational reachouts. It takes effort, but I'd rather take the time than rely on the numb nuts who run media which are supposed to do that job but don't. - phil baumann
I don't mean just the mainstream media, I mean social and new media. We are like little kids...anything distracts us. Gay rights, the economy, torture, none of it matters because ooohhh shiny! /disgust - Neal Jansons from IM
Oh, I completely agree. But before teh internet, we didn't have much choice in where to reach out. We at least have that ability if we're proactive. But you're so right: the attention-span in social media is worse than a fly on crack. It's a very memetic environment, with very few investments made in wanting to plumb a topic as long as it takes to advance an intelligent convo. It's getting more & more frustrating. - phil baumann
It's things like this that belie the optimistic "social technologies and the internet will make everything better" rhetoric...no, they will just make a bigger venue for self-destructive indulgent stupidity if none of us take any responsibility for changing the way we act. - Neal Jansons from IM
Nailed. I guess we can think of technologies as Enablers. They can enable the good and the bad, the remarkable or the mediocre. A hammer is only as good as the carpenter or psycho using it. - phil baumann
Right...and so long as we could say "Oh, the people are wonderful, they just get manipulated and oppressed by screwed up immoral leaders" this happy-shiny, save the world rhetoric made sense, but now that we have a couple years of seeing humanity's face and voice when no one is making it be anything but itself, I think we need to start questioning the idea, no matter how much it might... more... - Neal Jansons from IM
There is a sense of journalistic prioritization. It's on what (the news companies think) people want to learn about. And I think they are pretty much right. People in America care a lot more about Michael Jackson's death - someone who has touched their lives and been a significant and formative part of their cultural consciousness for over 20 years. It doesn't bother me in the least... more... - Zach Landes
And that's my point...the human imperative doesn't seem very defendable once we see it in action; it seems credulous, easily led, shallow, and stupid. - Neal Jansons from IM
Zach - I have no problem with people paying attention to Michael Jackson (I grew up watching him when he was part of the Jackson 5, so there's some meaning for me too), but I think the concern here is that some channels should offer more consistent focus. Switching from something like Iran's troubles to Michael Jackson within 24 hours can't be a healthy way for our society to mature. It raises the question: how sincere or serious are people when the meme-du-jour is hotly debated for a day? - phil baumann
The only problem I have with that is that most of it is meaningless waffle to fill space and air time, tragic as it might be I'm not interested in what all other celebrities have to say about it or whatever. And I do despair, I don't know if I should despair more about the drivel people seem to be interested in or about what the media thinks we should be interested in. - M F
I accept human choices as human. I don't accept the concepts of good or evil. With such a view, there is not much I think that can be done, at least without major changes in human perception brought on by even bigger changes in society, in order to change the media. - Zach Landes
Bread and circuses, baby. Nothing has changed in two thousand years. We're just going faster. - Chris Baskind
Seriously, before Iran and Twitter where did all of you people get your news? Biggie said it best: "Cuz this typea shit happens every day." ...all over the world. - Mona Nomura
@Chris mostly, yeah. And @Mona have my babies? - Zach Landes
This sounds good; but really lots of people are oppressed everyday and we don't talk about it. Part of the Iranian obsession was our own vanity that our favorite technologies were playing a part. - James Watters
Not sure what to feel about this post. Why even single out the Iranians. There is all kinda things going on all over the world some as bad Iran. What are you gonna do? The common person feels they have enough to deal with that they don't want to have to think about the plight of others half a world away. As for traditional news media well they cover what brings ratings. Its a business,... more... - nef 919 from twhirl
The internet is moreso "obsessed" with the flavor of the week/day and that will only continue. How are we measuring "stickiness" should take precedence. - dhamza
James has a great point, and so does Patricia. There is an emotional and narcissistic element to these things. And Mona is right...this typea shit does happen everyday, and I often have my boxers in a wad about it; I guess I am just an idiot...I keep expecting people to care and getting bitter when they don't or when they pretend to. - Neal Jansons
Neal - we cannot tell people how to think or feel, though their choices are telling of our failed educational system. - Mona Nomura
Thanks Neal. - James Watters
Mona - we can tell them, they just don't have to listen or obey. I am just saying that I have an ideal in my heart about humanity, and I am getting more and more disillusioned. - Neal Jansons from IM
There's truth to that, Mona. As I was watching a political nutcase the other day it occurred to me that you'd really have to be poorly educated to buy what he was selling. Keep 'em dumb, scared, and down on the farm. Our kids need *much* better history, geography, and critical thinking skills. - Chris Baskind
That's a valid point, Patricia. People's basic need for validation is getting fulfilled en masse for the first time in recorded history, and that in itself can be considered a good. - Neal Jansons from IM
Just a sobering thought: Iran, too, is flavor of the week. We dont hear from Burma anymore, cause it's not "exciting" enough. Iran is exciting... But it's a lot of it is self centered hot air... James said it well "our own vanity that our favorite technologies were playing a part" Making your icon green or changing your location to "iran" does nothing for iranians - it just makes you... more... - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
Sad but true, Joelle. - Neal Jansons
Machiavelli quote. "Hence it comes about that all armed Prophets have been victorious, and all unarmed Prophets have been destroyed." - James Watters
So much self-entitlement these days. Why should other news stories have to trend higher than others? - Brandon
the good thing though is that we are no longer dependent on a few editors in a few media outlets to decide what is flavour of the week, and what is news and what gets ignored. The less good news is, we are doing it ourselves. Of course we are human and get caught in vanity, but there's more variety of us, so there is a chance to revisit, push an ongoing story back in the (albeit very... more... - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
Ya that's true! it's like Iran was trending on Twitter... Only because there was no other more "important" news to talk about. - Malcolm Bastien
Who said they "should" do anything? My claim is that our fickle, self-serving obsessions reveal something about moral character. - Neal Jansons
@Joelle, the media has rarely decided this themselves, only the public. they are a business driven by what eyeballs are drawn to them. We alone created the media by our appetites for it. if anything, the web has broken than, not media's tight grip on information alone. - Patricia
@Neal, agreed. When will we the people ostracize this type, then? Why do we let these people take the platform, then? - Patricia
We all have our own 'important' news issues, in the same way that we all have our own important issues in life. I guess if you've nothing to worry about in life, but the demise of a celebrity (and I'm not debasing that demise or the celebrity here), then I guess you're very fortunate, or of course shallow. - Ian May
who cares if one trend is higher than another, it's comparing apples and oranges! Of course more people are talking about someone familiar dying than unknown people far away (it's the same mechanism as the "200 dead, 5 americans" storyline) - that is the difference between gossip and news. If anything it just says something about us doing what is easy and talking about things that we... more... - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
Patricia - I agree with your sentiment, but I hesitate to cut the world up into such a dichotomy. I think most people have both altruistic and selfish drives, but are generally discouraged from engaging in the examination and reasoning necessary to put them into their proper relations. - Neal Jansons from IM
I don't roll with any posse. I used to be involved in a lot of activism back in the late 90s in Santa Cruz, and saw that the activist community was mostly just young students and old hippies working out their authority issues. Maybe you found the mythical good guys to hang with, but I don't think there are such a thing. IMO, there are no "good guys", there are just "the other guys". - Neal Jansons from IM
Selective attention doesn't help when it is the masses and the leaders that actually make the world how it is. Besides, I don't really care about those people...they are not who my criticism is aimed at. My criticism is aimed at those who go from "OMG genocide!" to "OMG kittens!" with no sense of gravity or priority. Whoever isn't in that group may ignore my pissiness (actually, you are all free to ignore my pissiness anytime :p) - Neal Jansons from IM
Great conversation, Neal. I liked it earlier to make sure I read it. ;) A few of my thoughts after having read it are here ---> Showing solidarity with people and movements that only seem a world away is sometimes all that many are able to do. Altruism is never misguided IMHO. My personal decision to turn my icon green is partially a result of having invested the time to study the... more... - Eric Logan
Wow, Eric, nice response. It is a complex issue. My real complaint is the lack of priorities...Flying Spaghetti Monster forbid that a genocide or nuclear assault happens on the same day of an iPhone release. - Neal Jansons from IM
It's been proven many times in multiple studies that most people live in a bubble and only pay attention to what affects their daily lives. A large majority of Americans have no personal investment in anything going on in Iran, so they basically don't care. Sad, but true. I don't think it has anything at all to do with education and everything to do with narcissism and... more... - Trish R
@Trish I almost agree with you - until you state that its about "narcissism and self-gratification as a society". Do you really mean as a society? Or do you think that it could be something that goes a little bit deeper. If anything, I would imagine that human society reduces narcissism as it requires humans to live in extremely large groups in which they have to make sacrifices for people they will never meet. - Zach Landes
I read a good article about slactivism and how if you actually have to DO something, or put in any effort, then you'd have fewer social media slactavists. I think it also speaks to the attention span of the slactavist, who isn't really invested in the cause so much as jumping on the bandwagon. - Miss Elle
I'm sympathetic to your POV on this, Neal but I'd argue that Iran's systematic oppression is not news—it is, in fact, old news to say the state of Iran mistreats its citizens. The protests against the election are the news. Michael Jackson was not much in the news before he died (I didn't even know he was planning a major tour in a month!) but his death is very big news considering his... more... - Lon Cohen
I get the sentiment, but I'd say the condemnation of priorities is too strong. Of course it's important to do what you can for the Iranians. But a lot of people have a personal memory of Michael Jackson. You've essentially dismissed that connection entirely. - Hutch Carpenter
And those are my priorities...human suffering, the fight against oppression, political freedom, etc are more important than people getting to have their nostalgia stroked. Emotions and memories are important, but there is a point where they become irrelevant. That point is where people die and suffer and that is ignored so people can get their serotonin on. IOW, anyone who would put the satisfaction of that emotional connection before the actual welfare of other human beings is a self-involved douche. - Neal Jansons from IM
Ouch Neal! First, the obsession with MJ - those are his rabid fans parked outside his house. I don't think of them as "self-involved douches". That characterization just doesn't seem to fit them. As for the ROW, there really isn't an obsession with MJ. Except to appreciate the artist. And that what he was, an artist. - Hutch Carpenter
I am not talking about the sheeple outside his house. I am talking about how the media, both new and traditional, went tits up about the umpteen billion important things...two wars, the energy bill, gay rights, Iran vote conflict, torture memos, hate crime bill, etc etc etc ad infinitum, ad nauseum and decided a washed-up, overrated, freak of the worst kind of corporate music was the... more... - Neal Jansons from IM
Well, look at it this way. If all the media ever did is cover the atrocities of the world, most people would tune it out. Think of your own days. Are you 24/7 with Iran on your mind? Of course not. Media are no different. They do mix it up. There has been plenty of Iran coverage, really there has been. So when a major cultural icon dies, one that millions, no billions, have some connection to passes away, they'll cover that too. - Hutch Carpenter
Neal: mainstream media owners promote whatever agenda best optimizes the acquisition of wealth and power for themselves and their social networks (including family, ethnic and religious networks). Much of that agenda consists of distractions (celebrity gossip, sex scandals, etc.) designed to divert public attention from the real machinery of power. The majority of people (including social media "thought leaders") are pushovers for this kind of manipulation. This is the way things really are. - Sean McBride
Also - I've never found it useful to castigate people for their natural interests. We're humans, too diverse and complex to force into a specific box of what "we should be focused on". - Hutch Carpenter
Uh-huh. I have an RSS reader and I can see the headlines since MJ's death same as anyone else. Iran stuff hasn't updated, energy bill barely mentioned, and the rest of it has been silenced. What about the "Holy Grail" torture memo being suppressed again? Obama using executive orders to detain Gitmo prisoners indefinitely without trial? It just goes on and on. - Neal Jansons from IM
Sean: I know. You know I know. The thing is that social media and new media don't have to follow suit. - Neal Jansons from IM
Looking at CNN.com right now. Lead is that the military arrests Honduras's president. There's a special section for Michael Jackson coverage. And a special section for Iranian coverage. - Hutch Carpenter
Well, then we disagree on the very notion of priority of attention. I am glad our ancestors and our genes don't agree with you, either, or we would either still be stuck in the caves (after all, who is to say early humans "should have" focussed on civilization) or we would be extinct (damn, I suppose that tiger might eat me but damn that sunset is pretty). - Neal Jansons from IM
A front page with sections is problematic for this discussion. I am talking about the volume of articles and coverage. A frontpage doesn't show that, an RSS reader does. - Neal Jansons from IM
Neal: I appreciate your passion, but not so much the conclusions to which it leads. I'm definitely more interested in Iran than MJ, but that doesn't make me less douchey than anyone else. I mean, let's face it... the only reason I care more about the plight of Iranians than the plight of millions of other suffering souls is that *my* people have a significant strategic interest in the... more... - Roger Benningfield
That's where we actually agree Neal. Natural human interests. Survival is one of those. Avoiding the tiger is a "gimme" in terms of attention. For the civilization argument, again, it's natural human interests. Those who insisted on "going it alone" were at a disadvantage. It was in your interest to participate in emerging civilization. - Hutch Carpenter
Neal, I appreciate your passion, buddy, but Roger just about sums up my take on it 100%. - Derrick
And as a side note, there seems to be an amazing amount of people on the internet who feel that they must automatically take the apologists position anytime anything is criticized. A solid position pro or con is not inherently a bad thing and strong opinions don't need this pacification. I don't care about 1) The human factor, 2) The feelings of the poor privileged people who want to... more... - Neal Jansons from IM
Neal: what percentage of the population anywhere in the world can think outside the box defined by mainstream media? 5%? 1%? Why would one expect to find much independent and original thinking going on in social media? Within social media, creative discussion is going on among only a few small networks and communities. Most of the discussion in social media as a whole is oriented around... more... - Sean McBride
Again, the apologist's position...people have it hard, so their amazing lack of priorities is "understandable". Well, people are also semi-evolved apes, driven by instincts more suited to the savanna than the streetcorner...so what? Shall we say it is "understandable" if they shit in their hand and throw it at people, or say that, even given our "understandable" position, we should strive for something better? - Neal Jansons from IM
Sean, I don't have the same poor estimate of people thinking "outside the box" as you do. For one, there are a lot of boxes, some of them mutually exclusive. People don't lie in one camp or another, either. Some people think "outside the box" about some things, some of the time. Again, this is just an excuse. So people are limited...can I not cry out for a higher ideal than catering to the lowest common denominator of those limits? - Neal Jansons from IM
Neal: I share your frustration -- cry away. :) But don't expect very much to change. - Sean McBride
Oh I never do. To paraphrase a bad fiction book, I am just a voice crying out in the wilderness. - Neal Jansons from IM
Quoting myself from last Friday: "John Ensign! Iranian unrest! Mark Sanford! Farrah Fawcett! Michael Jackson! A big exciting blur signifying nothing. Most consumers of mainstream media have the attention span of a guppy. Nothing connects. Nothing is sustained." - Sean McBride
Neal: What you're seeing as apologia seem to me to simply be attempts to convey to you, in the kindest way possible, that you're coming off at least as self-focused as those you decry. After all, you're the one claiming your ideals are "higher". If humans have no inherent value as you suggest, than neither does (in the general case) injustice or death or any of the other things you'd... more... - Roger Benningfield
I'm going to completely forget about Iran and focus entirely on Billy Mays. Because, you know, it's impossible to be concerned about more than one thing at a time. - Akiva Moskovitz
Neal and Sean - if you had the magic wand, what would media and human attention be focused on right now? What would it look like? - Hutch Carpenter
Roger, to claim to be evaluating things according to the correct standard and that another is mistaken is not self-elevation unless the claim is based on authority (it is better because I say so). I am saying the standard is clear and obvious: human suffering>entertainment (to humans), thus those who choose to elevate the latter over the former are incorrect. This is my claim. And... more... - Neal Jansons from IM
Interesting question, Hutch. I think I am probably going to come down with Singer on this one and make a utilitarian argument...wherever there is the most avoidable human suffering is where our attention should be focused first. Hutch: a very brief answer: Glenn Greenwald (Unclaimed Territory) usually keeps his eye on the ball: http://www.salon.com/opinion... He has been primarily focused on the widening and disturbing gap between Obama's campaign promises and his actual policies. There are a few dozen feeds out there which are relentlessly bearing down on substantive policy issues. Andrew Sullivan's... more... - Sean McBride
Greenwald and Sullivan have strongly challenged the mainstream media, especially The Washington Post in recent months. The MSM hate to be challenged. They would much prefer for Americans to be preoccupied with Mark Sanford's marital problems or the death of Michael Jackson than to be paying attention to and understanding the internal politics of the owners and controllers of the MSM. - Sean McBride
Sean has a great one there...the issue of Obama's rhetoric versus his actions since taking office is a big one that all the hero-worship people need to think about. I am personally afraid we have been bamboozled yet again and simply trade Beast Rabban for Feyd Rautha (Dune reference for the non-geeky). - Neal Jansons from IM
Thinking outside the MSM box: a few feeds: Alternet, Andrew Sullivan (Daily Dish), Antiwar.com, Common Dreams, Consortiumnews, Counterpunch, Democracy Now!, Dissident Voice, Glenn Greenwald (Unclaimed Territory), GlobalResearch, Haaretz, Information Clearing House, Jeremy Scahill (Rebel Reports), Jim Lobe (LobeLog), Juan Cole (Informed Comment), OpEdNews, Philip Weiss (Mondoweiss),... more... - Sean McBride
The social media thought leaders I respect have paid very little attention to either Mark Sanford or Michael Jackson. Among other things, they are still trying to understand the Iran situation by pulling together all the available data -- data which the MSM often don't attend to or even acknowledge. - Sean McBride

FML : my fiance's divorce was finalized. To celebrate, we went out to dinner at this expensive...
"Today, my fiance's divorce was finalized. To celebrate, we went out to dinner at this expensive restaurant. After dinner, he goes to the restroom. A couple minutes later, the check comes with a note saying: "Thanks! Gonna enjoy bachelor life. It's over." Left me with the $200 bill. He drove. FML" - FFing Enigma (aka Tina) from Bookmarklet
Depending on the state, you might have to be legally separated for a year before you can be granted a divorce. That's the way it in here in SC (I met my husband Dave after his separation but before his divorce was final). My sister has been legally separated for over a year and still no divorce. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Personally, I didn't enter into a contract when I got 'engaged', nor did I receive a ring. He asked and I said yes, that was it. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Kay, why couldn't a married person give a ring to another person? Or co-own property with them? I co-owned property with my dad while married. I wasn't married to my dad. - Rochelle
I don't know what legalities I have entered into as an engaged person...the ring was certainly not the first gift I had received from him and we've co-owned things for many years prior to the engagement. The state has no knowledge that we have committed to each other that we will eventually be married. - joey
‌‌FML RUX - Amir
I thought a 'legal separation' was announced in the public newspaper to protect a party from any debts incurred from that point until legal divorce. I think if someone is 'legally separated' can be engaged to marry another person? I do believe the laws do vary from state to state. - Janet
Rochelle you can. But those are contracts of a different nature. And I assume those were in writing. - Kay Designer
Hey, Kay? This post is from another site, this isn't my situation. I'm quite happily married (as evidenced by my referencing my husband Dave in the comment above). - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Kay, the property ownership? Yes, it was in writing. It was the ownership of a condo. - Rochelle
Tina, do you know what restaurant this girl is posting from? *shaves with the good razor* - Matthew DeVries
I dunno. If a person is separated and plans to marry someone else and they call each other fiance/fiancee, who am I to stop them? If they want to give each other rings or spoons or dining room chairs, what should I care? Are you saying it's illegal for them to use the word "fiance" and exchange gifts with each other? - Rochelle
And for what it's worth, per the legal code in SC any items purchased after entering into a legal separation are not considered marital property, ergo any engagement ring or other property bought after a legal separation is not bound by marital property contract or law "SECTION 20-3-630. Marital property; nonmarital property. (A) The term "marital property" as used in this article means... more... - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)

So if you get to call us "young women", does that mean we get to call you "old woman"? Ageism isn't cool. And I'm not sure why you're apologizing to us. AFAIK, all of the women commenting here are in long-term committed relationships. - Rochelle
Kay, I'll *reiterate*: THIS POST ISN'T ABOUT ME, I am already married. That is beside the point, though. I am MORE than familiar with "all this financial stuff" regarding marriage property and divorce; I have my state's legal code book marked and I use it as a resource like any well informed person should. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Wow, Kay. I think anyone who looks as an engagement to be married as a legally binding contract probably should remain single. - Trish R
So we don't know where the damsel in need of a "good guy" is? Tina, you're such a tease! - Matthew DeVries
Kay, if you click the link (or look at the URL, at least), you'll see this is from a website. It's shared via Bookmarklet, which is shown next to the timestamp. And you sound happy, well adjusted and not at all still carrying that pain........ - Matthew DeVries
Kay, I understand your position, but all I can say is that in my state there is no recognition of an engagement "contract". There is recognition of contract written or implied when it involves property or money. But simply asking someone to marry isn't codified as an oral contract: I could go ask everyone I meet to marry me with legal impunity (unless it keeps me away from my husband... more... - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)

Kay, I'm sorry your marriage didn't work out, but clearly even a marriage contract didn't prevent the resulting difficult situation. It wasn't really a challenge, Kay, just an observation. You seem to be looking for a fight on friendfeed, and frankly, I don't have the time nor the inclination to give you one, so if it makes you feel good to trot your Minnie Pearl-esque opinions all around and ruin what was probably going to be a funny discussion about a funny post from a website that may or may not be real anyway, you go right ahead. Rah, it sounds like it's state-by-state, in terms of legal co-ownership of property should you later split up, but anyone can say they are engaged to anyone else. The word "engaged" isn't trademarked or anything. There's no permit or license required to call yourself "engaged". - Rochelle
In general I think getting engaged while you're still legally married is tacky and might be a tip off to the guy's underlying character - Lindsey is Fierce!
Yeah, like a girl getting engaged to a married man is obviously of sterling character. - Akiva Moskovitz

Just to reiterate: depending on the state it's very easy to go a year or more legally separated but not yet divorced. My sister is going on month 15 of her current legal separation and still isn't actually divorced (they can't afford it yet). Heck, in SC you have to be legally separated (i.e. you've filed and you're living separately) for at least a year before a divorce is granted unless adultery, abuse, or drunkeness is involved - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)

Class surprises lesbian teacher on wedding day - or is it the other way around?
A group of San Francisco first-graders took an unusual field trip to City Hall on Friday to toss rose petals on their just-married lesbian teacher - putting the public school children at the center of a fierce election battle over the fate of same-sex marriage. not as a class. if you are going to give one on one explanations... it is different. these people are using children as pawns - Noah David Simon
I didn't get the sense that the parents of the kids did this to push an agenda. The thing that is missed here is that (if I'm reading the article right) this was a bunch of parents and kids showing their appreciation of their teacher on their wedding day. Again, not a thing that would be allowed for a public school teacher (for liability reasons they have to be professionally detached from their kids), but I think it's kind of cool. Oh and considering that this happened in San Francisco? Completely not news - Alex Scoble
Weddings and funerals are part of life. Why shield the kids from it? Why such an unease with the facts of life like birth, love, sex and death? Is it about denying we are animals and have bodies? How Puritan! - Bora Zivkovic
Bora... do you have a kid? there are many things that take more effort then just throwing them into the game. some day they will have sex... yes? does that mean you watch porn with ur kids? - Noah David Simon

and Bora there is a huge difference between you teaching sex and a person with 20 or 30 kids teaching it. sex should be taught one on one. not in public. sex education is a cruel joke on kids. @Bora well I guess Obama is ur man... he loves teaching sex ed to five year olds. these kids are going 2b more messed up then Generation X - Noah David Simon
But they're not teaching sex by bringing them to a wedding... it's not like the women had sex during the ceremony. - heather ♥s fauns on mars.
Only a perverse mind would equate a wedding with sex education. And yes, Obama is my man because that bill you are referring to is a bill that would protect small kids from sexual perverts, from people who are so sick and depraved they see sex in everything, even in the most beautiful events in a person's life. - Bora Zivkovic
public displays of affection... the kids will emulate it. there is little explaination for these kids. look at the faces... they don't know what to make of it when they aren't being trained - Noah David Simon
Just to be clear on two things: (1) a charter school is a public school; it just has a charter that relaxes certain educational requirements. (2) from the article: "As is the case with all field trips, parents had to give their permission and could choose to opt out of the trip. Two families did. Those children spent the duration of the 90-minute field trip back at school with another first-grade class, the interim director said." - Glen Campbell
I guarantee Noah that no one is teaching sex education to 6 year olds. - Alex Scoble
you can't opt out of all the kids talking about it. this is hypocrisy on so many levels http://digg.com/politic... - Noah David Simon
Again, equating this with sex education is completely bogus. - Alex Scoble
Maybe Noah's imagination was going wild- if they kiss, what else happens... orgy ensues. Sorry I'm getting silly. Except for a school's questionable "school activities" - going to a gay or straight wedding seems a stretch for me as a 'teachable moment in civil rights." But hey- charter schools are like that. - anna sauce
Humans are beautiful. Human bodies are beautiful. Sex is beautiful. Love is beautiful. Marriage is beautiful. Weddings are beautiful. Being a living, breathing, thinking, mortal animal is beautiful. Why deprive the kids from beauty? Everything at the correct time - weddings are fine at any age, sex later as they get more mature and presented as beautiful, not sinful. - Bora Zivkovic
And he also missed the part where the students were waiting outside of City Hall, so they wouldn't have seen the newlyweds kiss anyhow...at least not as part of the ceremony. - Alex Scoble
The first thing a newborn experiences is Mom's kiss. How is a kiss something to hide from kids? - Bora Zivkovic
Alex... we don't know where the kids are standing. no imagination... just the video facts. don't want my kid there. don't want my kid in that school where the kids are talking about it http://digg.com/politic... I DRAW THE LINE... the fact that 2 children opted out also tells you something - Noah David Simon
And even if the kids are talking about it, unless they already HAVE had some sort of talking-to about sex, their minds just aren't going to go there. I have a sister in *third* grade who wouldn't equate "marriage" with "oh my god, SEX!" - heather ♥s fauns on mars.
Parents were able to opt out, as the article reads. A parent came up with the idea. None of the children were forced. The idea that gay marriage, and gay couples as something "we don't want our kids to learn" is completely homophobic. I mean I don't get a choice about my kids being taught that marriage between a man and a woman is "normal". If I'm not careful, they'll get exposed to heterosexuality. I don't know what I'd do if my son decides to start experimenting with girls!! - B. Hatin
It's sad that you draw the line there. It stunts your kids emotional development. I hope they recover later with a help of peers and other responsible adults who are not squeamish about naturalness of human life. - Bora Zivkovic
My "liking" of this applies to the article, not the attached pro-Prop8 rhetoric. Teaching children that people who love each other enough to commit for life is a reality is NEVER a bad thing. As Bora said, love is never a bad thing. - Dana Franks from twhirl
We do KNOW where the kids are standing since it says so in the article. And if you had your kid in this teacher's class (I can just imagine the consternation this would cause you) you could have opted out from them attending. - Alex Scoble
so parents of children opted out... this makes your point moot. obviously there was contention in a "CHARTER SCHOOL" ... http://digg.com/politic... I DRAW THE LINE - Noah David Simon
Two children opted out, out of how many? They weren't a majority here... - heather ♥s fauns on mars.
enough to let you know that this is not what the parents signed their kids up for http://digg.com/politic... I DRAW THE LINE - Noah David Simon
Or maybe just to let you know they're homophobic. - heather ♥s fauns on mars.
you obviously don't remember class field trips Alex. so as long as they stand outside of Hooters all is good? "Marriage is more complicated then UR right2use a public park. Marriage is designed4creating relationships 4human reproduction(which*IS*important). When U demand gay marriage UR asking 4the same benefits as people who need government assistance because they have no choice over... more... - Noah David Simon
Marriage is not about procreation, except in the pamphlets from fundie churches: http://scienceblogs.com/clock... and http://scienceblogs.com/clock... and http://scienceblogs.com/clock... - Bora Zivkovic
you assume form doesn't follow function. you would fail any design school. there is discrepancy in good patterns, but in general cultural norms develop out of need. you might not want to believe it because of denial... but marriage is a functional element of society. Obama doesn't support GAY MARRIAGE! http://digg.com/politic... I DRAW THE LINE - Noah David Simon
How many times are you going to say "I draw the line"? We get it. - heather ♥s fauns on mars.
I find on long threads it is good to repeat the main point, with each comment. it draws the line http://digg.com/politic... and I will not draw a line on how many times I repeat that. It is a device that politicians use very effectively. that way when you get a sample of the main point. since 'yall ain't commenting anymore... guess the line was drawn - Noah David Simon
Oh, I see, the Rove style of politics: a lie repeated enough times becomes the truth. If you read the linked post, it is not about design - it is about organic evolution of the society, including its institutions, including marriage, to fit the people's need. Design imposed by a 'designer' is always flawed. Design that evolves to fit a need usually is much more optimal. If you are an engineer - FAIL: - Bora Zivkovic
http://scienceblogs.com/clock... "The conservative architect believed that there is no design without a Designer and that his years in design school make him the perfect person to CONTROL how the other people will utilize the park. He plays God. He scorns the proles. The liberal architect is wiser: she understands that the wisdom of the community is greater than anything she may have learned in school." - Bora Zivkovic
@Bora ++ I think that it's a homophobic thing Another Noah is saying, that witnessing two women kiss is "sex education." It's an expression of feeling. And hooters != marriage. You keep conflating pornography and exploitation of women in businesses with commitment ceremonies and rituals of our society, like funerals. That, to me, is more disturbing than your fears of seeing homosexuals express their feelings. - anna sauce
Anna I don't want children experiencing sexuality at a young age. Hetero or Homo. I don't want it. gay marriage evolves into nothing but a win for a Conservative. Bora, It is not engineering, it is masturbation when there is no effect but one's loss of DNA to the next generation or at best a weak link to succession. this isn't rhetoric... this is the reality of our society. whenever GAY MARRIAGE is brought up a Conservative wins the election. so maybe it is good design after all. natural selection - Noah David Simon
...but I don't celebrate weakness of others. I don't encourage it. I like pornography, but I don't celebrate it as a productive element of my life. it is means to survival. certainly homosexuality is part of life. it is part of the pattern... it isn't the winning solution. it is part of our culture. it is the pattern... but it is not where we should encourage our goals. marriage is in fact a goal. it is an initiation of the cycle of life - Noah David Simon
Why are homophobes so obsessed with sex and also think there is something wrong with sex? Sex is natural, and beautiful and a part of life. I hope Another NOAH gets to experience it that way at some point in the future - trust me, it is really good! - Bora Zivkovic
nothing wrong with gay sex Bora... you said that. not me. it doesn't hurt me unless I am not monogamous and then I might be concerned with how easily illness spreads through anal sex. but it is not something that I would pass a law against because the responsibility is partly on me for having multiple sex partners - Noah David Simon
What? I said what? Of course there is nothing wrong with gay sex. Or gay marriage. Or kids attending a wedding. It is you who has problems with all of that, seeing sex everywhere and seeing sex as something dirty and to be ashamed of. - Bora Zivkovic
This discussion is devolving because for some reason sex got conflated with the ceremonial kiss at weddings. Can we all agree on how this discussion has derailed? - anna sauce
you assumed I'm homophobic. that isn't true. I ask GAYs to respect difference. In the same way you expect me to respect your difference. taking away the protections our society has for people who get each other pregnant is not respect - Noah David Simon
Homophobia is the ONLY reason for being against gay marriage. Prove me wrong. Yes, AnotherNOAH has derailed this thread from the very beginning, by the way he started it in the first place. - Bora Zivkovic
for you that kiss has no meaning. you don't deserve to be married if you think a kiss is marriage - Noah David Simon
Why should gays respect outdated societal norms that make them pariahs and people who try to enforce those norms? The onus is on the straights to respect gays, not the other way round. - Bora Zivkovic
That kiss has a lot of meaning. Except that this meaning is not sexual, but you are incapable of seeing it as you see sex everywhere and feel heebie-jeebies when you think about it. - Bora Zivkovic
obviously if you don't care about the needs of kids then I can't convince you of anything - Noah David Simon
This is like debating a Creationist! Or a Republican. Can't nail them in one place to stay on one topic for a second. You talk about A, they ask "how about B" - a game a whack-a-mole. They win arguments by attrition, not reason, facts or logic. - Bora Zivkovic
I assure you that I'm not a Creationist. I'm arguing using your semiotics. you are just so brain washed by your own rhetoric that you are in shock that it has no logic - Noah David Simon
I'm actually laughing now. - anna sauce
The needs of kids are to be raised in the world as it is, appreciating life and naturalness of it, warts and all, beauty and all. Needs of kids are not met if they are shielded or lied to or indoctrinated into bigotry. Lying to kids is bad for parents as well - when the Real World hits them on the head, kids come back and ask you "why did you lie to me?" - Bora Zivkovic
even your language is coded from San Francisco. EXAMPLE: two definitions of attrition (1) sorrow for one's sins that arises from a motive other than that of the love of God (2) the act of weakening or exhausting by constant harassment, abuse, or attack ...you assume it is definition two, but in fact it is your code that is holding you back from seeing the truth. children need to see the truth... sure. but that truth has limitations. your coded language assumes pure transparency. you are hypocrites - Noah David Simon
Oh, just a reminder that projection is a known psychological problem of conservatives. If you listen carefully, whatever they impugn on people they dislike, it is exactly the trait they do not like in themselves. - Bora Zivkovic
What God? My kids have never been lied about its (or Santa Clause's) existence, thus they can grow up to be emotionally healthy. Your language was coded by James Dobson, apparently. Thus, definition (1) does not exist, only (2) does. - Bora Zivkovic
personal attacks when the paradox is exposed... Tu Queque... - Noah David Simon
Christianits have the inability to distinguish between person and idea. Love the sinner, hate the sin? Attack on the idea is not a personal attack unless you are so identifying with the idea that your own personhood is hidden even from yourself. - Bora Zivkovic
Bora... I am neither a Christian or Cartesian. projection indeed. your label of conservative is only as good as it's relativity. my world was NYC and LA. conservative would be socialism. btw Marx believed in gender - Noah David Simon
Now you're incoherent. There is no paradox and the only paradox you exposed is your stopping at the Piegatian stage of emotional development somewhere at the age of 7 or so, before being capable of distinguishing one's person from one's belonging to a bigger group - initially the family, later the religion, ideology, party, sports team or nation. Thus, criticism of the group's ideas are perceived as personal attacks. - Bora Zivkovic
And, due to projection, attacks on others are done in the form of attacks on groups, with a silly notion that the other will be offended. How could I possibly be offended by your gibbersih about Marx or socialism or NYC and LA? Those were intended to make me defensive, but they only make me laugh. In order to make me huffy, you need to find something factually true about myself that I personally do not like about myself and pounce on that. Otherwise, attacks on groups you think I belong to have no power - Bora Zivkovic
my dog got attacked. had to leave the argument to skunk bath. but stinking is not just a canine quality: it reeks around here of paradox. you speak projection when you call basic Marxist knowledge gibberish. you've been drinking the KOOLAID for so long that you don't even know the artificial flavor of it. I'm not attacking behavior... I'm defending lives. you have a right to do whatever you want, but when you effect others with tax dollars, they have a right to ask for different categorization. - Noah David Simon
now address my points and stop the nonsense of names. it just discredits you with an impartial observer. the reason you attack me by labeling me a Christian Conservative is that you think you understand where I am coming from. you obviously don't. Christians for sure have studied these issues more then any other cannon, so their knowledge in sexuality is to be seriously respected. the... more... - Noah David Simon
the only thing you know is that I oppose gay marriage. this could be for myriad of reasons. it is you who are projecting. because I never gave any moral reasons against this besides the survival of the species. the details of this are pointless to go into. children are important. their natural environment is essential. - Noah David Simon
There is no other reason to oppose gay marriage but homophobic bigotry. And, Christian knowledge is not something to be respected - on any topic whatsoever. If it is possible to get something wrong, Christians get it wrong. Two millennia of idiocy collected a lot of crap which they are incapable of ridding themselves of. And, of all the topics in the world, they got sexuality the worst - they are the most sexually hung-up and perverse group in history (and various other religions as well). - Bora Zivkovic
Finally, as you use typical rhetoric of the Right (particularly Christian right) and the typical illogical debating practices of the Right, I think I successfully placed you in the Right. If you don't like it, leave it. - Bora Zivkovic
freedom only comes with restraint. you are so full of labels... it is obvious you can't hold back anything. Life did not create any social contracts, People in life do to protect themselves from destruction. you are so willing to kill the label of gay and straight that you have objectified everything else. this is not skin color this is behavior we are talking about. I'm not condemning... more... - Noah David Simon
Bullshit. Sexual orientation is inborn and heritable, just like skin color. Only pervs think of it as behavior (as it implies choice), because the thought of gay sex makes them uncomfortable. Grow up. - Bora Zivkovic
maybe 40 years from now homophobia will be as taboo as racism is now. Oh wait. Seriously, only homophobes are against gay marriage. Bans are just like the anti-miscegenation laws of old. - Victor Ganata
I happen to be a Republican http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki... Republicanism always stands in opposition to any form of dictatorship or tyranny in the political realm. More broadly, it refers to a political system that protects liberty, especially by incorporating a rule of law that cannot be arbitrarily ignored by the government. As John Adams put it, “They define a republic to... more... - Noah David Simon
read this quote you said back up there "The liberal architect is wiser: she understands that the wisdom of the community is greater than anything she may have learned in school." ...the community of this country has REJECTED GAY MARRIAGE. Gerrymandering where the community begins and ends is more of the same type of argument. Gerrymandering what is religion and what is not is more of... more... - Noah David Simon
again I am not a Cartesian nor am I a Christian. This means I am not here to draw the line between where your free will begin and end in any issue. What I am concerned about is the REAL POLITICAL ramifications of encouraging and offering tax benefits to less beneficial environments for children. I realize that there are difficult situations that do come into reality... the fact that we... more... - Noah David Simon
you are so quick to preclude that being gay is a nature, and yet if I were to preclude that a woman's qualities are inherited you would again slander me. your arguments are so coded and pre established as being normalized that it is frightening that you consider other people's norm to be an issue. It is you who is demanding religion impede into the state... not the Christians. again I... more... - Noah David Simon
OK Noah, you are against gay marriage as it doesn't produce kids. Did you know 5,000 children are being raised by gay parents, so by making it illegal you are putting kids in the foster system? Also- gay relationships have historical underpinnings, since Plato people have been having "Non-productive" relationships because they want to. Have you ever felt something with no productive, or practical feeling (like a gameboy or wii...) emotions aren't run on reason. - anna sauce
More importantly, the govt. should never tell somebody who to love. - anna sauce
Opponents of gay marriage have failed to demonstrate exactly how there is *any* harm. The benefits, on the other hand, are myriad. Face it, it's a dead-end position and despite the prolific spew of your pseudoscientific claims, you reveal yourself to be nothing but a bigot. - Victor Ganata
the point at which the mind & body dichotomy infringe on the basic constitutional rights of other citizens to live as productive a life as possible; that is where the line is drawn. No one is saying you can't live with who you love. the details of where and why consciousness, will, & desire begins & end is a religious issue. I am not here to argue a religious argument because it... more... - Noah David Simon
I am not putting any children at risk btw... because people who adopt could enjoy these benefits by going through a different system that is reflective of the choice that gay people enjoy about procreation that straight people don't have without murder. ...and yes there are many cases of pregnancy being detected late and being forced into partial birth abortion situations. (that is assuming you are for abortion).... yawn. - Noah David Simon
look like I won the argument by due process anyway (CALIFORNIA HAS REJECTED THIS MARRIAGE)... but I have another axe to grind. http://simonstudiotheatre.blogspot.com/search... MY DOG IS NOT HOMOPHOBIC http://www.seesmic.com/video... The Gay Marriage Ban is California does not mean California is Homophobic! - Noah David Simon
http://brooksbayne.com/post... Re: Liberals Being Intolerant On Twitter Again - This Time Over Prop 8 - Noah David Simon
If the kids like there teacher then why shouldn't they be at the wedding.. To (miss)quote a certain US politician "If two people love each other then why should it be in any way anyone elses damn business..." - Paul Sharrock
This is using the kids for political agenda. The wedding was done in a city hall not a church. The kids could have came to a wedding party if the teacher cared about the kids. To use children to further the political stance is paramount to Hamas hiding behind children while attacking Israel with Qassam rockets! - Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
I suppose if you have empathy for Gaza and Hamas then hiding behind children shouldn't seem strange. same old... same old from the Scoble Nazis - Noah David Simon
Do not think Loic Lemeur from Seesmic is any better. He blocked me on Friend Feed. He is a Bastard. He waited to Ban me on Seesmic until I was Banned on Twitter to protect himself from negative PR. He is one Mother Fucker! - Igor The Troll יִצְחָק

It's payday, which means a chop pork plate from Henry's Barbecue. NOM!
What style barbecue? - Dave Roth
Henry's is smoked barbecue, though I'm not sure what cut they use. Their meat is at the top of my all time list, but their mac 'n' cheese is sadly lacking. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
What's the sauce made of? - Dave Roth
They have two, the mild is a tomato vinegar base, the hot is a mustard vinegar base. Neither of the sauces are really my bag, but they mix well and a little goes a long way. Honestly, the meat doesn't really need sauce. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
NOM! WANT. I was just thinking I was starting to get hungry. - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Ah, I like a good hot mustard-based BBQ sauce! (what I REALLY like are 100,000+ Scoville habanero ones, but they're tough to track down. *grin* We used to have a crazy place in Atlanta, Feeder's, that had a whole menu of insane heat. I loved that place.) - Ken Kennedy from IM
Well, this mustard sauce isn't particularly hot at all, to tell the truth. However, there are sauces that hot easily had. If you're anywhere in the southeast, check out the BBQ festival in June in Tryon: you should find something appropriate there =D - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Oh, I used to regularly do several festivals. You can definitely find them there, but restaurants tend to avoid them...people think they want them, and then they...um, find out that they don't. *grin* - Ken Kennedy
I don't need a sauce that hot, I just like them. I bet the mustard one is excellent! - Ken Kennedy
don't forget the state championship for SC in Woodruff (or is it Union?) too - Laurens also has Squealin on the Square in Sept or Oct - http://www.scbarbeque.com/events... - Jeff Quinton
Ken, I may or may not be at the festival in Tryon this year: if I am, I'll try and find you a bottle of something special =D - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
You, I like. *grin* Never been to that one; I've never spent much time in western NC for some reason. Eastern NC, yes, eastern TN, yes (my dad is from there), but not the area in between. - Ken Kennedy
Oh, well heck then! Next time you're in eastern TN you should visit WNC. And once you're there, Greenville is only 1-1.5 hours away, so you might as well come here and take me up on my free beer or BBQ offer for any FFer that visits. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
...thanks. you've made my dry mouth water. thankfully, it's lunchtime here in SFO. - .LAG liked that
Heck, I'm only in Atlanta...going to Greenville via TN would be the long way around! I'll have to do free BBQ sometime. *grin* - Ken Kennedy
Nice! I went to college in Atl... If you're not busy, we're trying to put together a meetup or three up here June 12th-14th (including a possible jaunt to the Tryon BBQ fest). You should come! - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
I saw! I do the SF convention thing, though, and SciFi Summercon is that weekend. I believe my posse of con-goers is planning on attending. But I'm sure it'll work out at some point. You said there's a Linuxfest as well that weekend, right? Bummer. That'd be fun. - Ken Kennedy
Yup, Linuxfest is in Clemson that Saturday. Oh well, more BBQ for me!!!! ;-) - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Greedy. Just greedy. - Ken Kennedy
