you've been there a week, you'd think you'd speak fluently by now...jeez...
- Zee.
If you can't understand it then...ok, nevermind!
- WorldofHiglet
Looks like someone should've invested some time with Rosetta Stone.
- Akiva Moskovitz
any cool tech company addressing the language issue? seems like a huge opportunity to make this country and whats happening more accessible
- simonpure
xiha btw, is a very cool cross-alphabet, polyglot social network
- anna sauce
of course, now that you just called attention to it, somebody in the govt is probably looking into it :-)
- Mark Schulz
Mark: nah. If they wanted to block me they would have done that five days ago. :-) The great firewall is VERY efficient. They have tons of people looking through everything.
- Robert Scoble
Sometimes I'll block your Twitter and FriendFeed while I'm eating Chinese food. Just for the hell of it.
- Kevin Leroux
they block your blog but let you in the country...
- anna sauce
anna: I think they are investors in Twitter. :-)
- Robert Scoble
mhmazidi: can you add my account to Google Reader? That seems to work here.
- Robert Scoble
yes. i follow your activity all around the web. your blog is in my greader for long time. not bad for me. bad for other persian reader... sorry for bad writing english
- mhmazidi
The great firewall has enough holes to get in or out... This may be a bit too simplistic, but how about just using HotspotShield?
- Michael Leuker
from fftogo
mhmazidi: that's cool, though. Love it that Google Reader pokes through government censorship. I wonder how long it'll be before FriendFeed and Google Reader both are blocked?
- Robert Scoble
in some of region of iran, HTTPS is blocked. thus log in with FF is hard for us :(
- mhmazidi
How does that work, even if you have the same option, your blog is blocked but the content lives on very intieresting.
- Ray Marr aka Knatchwa
the filtering method in our countery , iran, is a little different. the filtering committee members will search some keywords, if you have that keywords on your blog, your blog will be filtered. if your post is not about policy , there is a chance that they unblock your blog after you accept to remove some of your posts but if you write about politics , you will be in danger because they can arrest you.
- امیرعباس
Little Savage: hopefully one day all people will have the freedom I have. Someday I hope to visit your country and shake your hand without you worrying about what the government might think.
- Robert Scoble
Farbod: I can't even imagine what it's like to live there. I wish you well.
- Robert Scoble
Farbod: I know. Maryam and my son are going to Iran in March (while I go to SXSW in Austin, Texas). You should meet up with her.
- Robert Scoble
@robert - acctualy our condition is not as bad as you think. we have every thnig that we need. but the problem is that our country is a third world country but our expectation from life is like people that are living in first world counteries :) we are trying to change the condition and i'm sure that we can. by the way i'm very happy that you have planned to come here. iran is a beautiful country ;)
- امیرعباس
Farbod and Shine: hey, I know about "unsightly patch." We had George Bush here for eight years. Yeah, Maryam is coming to Iran. You should send her email at g_maryam@hotmail.com and plan a meetup with her and Milan.
- Robert Scoble
Little Savage: I won't be able to make it on this trip in March, but Maryam and Milan will. Look forward to hearing all about it.
- Robert Scoble
Don't tempt us to make a gag about wanting to move to China, Robert. ;-)
- David Petherick
from twhirl
David: I'm not moving to China. I like California more.
- Robert Scoble
Interesting, my blog is fine and all the sites that I usually go to, have been no problem to access.
- Alvin
Photos or a short video of the market would be nice if possible, hint, hint!
- Roney Smith
Scott: about $200 before negotiating. I have some photos, but will post them later tonight.
- Robert Scoble
Look forward to seeing them. You know anyone who has tried one.
- Scott Overpeck
Scott: I don't. Everyone has real iPhones that I've met with, but then I'm hanging out with geeks.
- Robert Scoble
Definitely bring some back. Need a shipping address?
- Ralph Riccardi
Dealextreme has knockoff iPhones all the time. Not sure if they're dual SIM but my memory is they fetch about $120ish plus a few dollars shipping (which is super fast). I can't vouch for whether they actually work. I think the $199 price for an 8GB iPhone takes a lot of the wind out of the sales of the these fakes.
- Wayne Schulz
WOW - What a concept!! "and have replaceable batteries”
- JimmyJet
Replaceable batteries might have saved my co-worker, who dropped her phone into water. Sadly, I don't think there's a way to quickly kill all power to an iPhone, if you can't remove the battery.
- MiniMage TKDteacher of FF
Photos will be nice! I wonder if the knock offs function as well as the real thing, the battery idea is very cool though.
- MedicalQuack
Have fun in Shanghai robert. Try to take time for an evening visit @ "JC Club" in Fuxing Xi Lu / Wulumuqin Lu - great little jazz-place. Today Sunday is nice - w CoCo a local star. Show starts around 10pm.
- Niels Peter
Julio: I haven't seen any Android knockoffs yet. In the black market everyone comes up to you and says "handbag? watch? iPhone?"
- Robert Scoble
Android is open source. There's no such thing as an Android knockoff.
- scott anderson
PLEEASE show us some pics or videos of the iphone knockoffs
- natadd
natadd: I will post those later tonight. Still have tons of meetings today.
- Robert Scoble
No knockoffs of the Android software - but were these running the genuine iPhone OS? If so, you could get the same with Android: knockoff hardware, say copying the T-Mobile one, but running genuine Android.
- James
On the android thing, iirc there is already work being done getting android up and running on the neo freerunner. That is the latest openmoko phone, btw ;)
- turn.self.off
It might be fun to get Android running on the knockoff iPhones.
- scott anderson
What I just noticed is he probably has the second shortest hair after Ike (bald) and John Quincy Adams (#6 for those who don't know).
- Andrew Leyden
i'm confused Tobias, not sure what you mena. Clearly yes, race has played a big role in this election.
- Zee.
Obama is the first president without grey hair? Really?
- Peter
Tobias, voting for or against Obama based on race would have been to vote ignoring all the other other issues at hand so it wasn't a focal point. Now that he's won we're free to focus on the historical moment of having our first minority President and what that means and says about us as a country.
- David Knight
@David Knight I think you nailed it. The focus on race that you see right now shouldn't be classed as "since Obama won" but "at the moment of his winning." We have crossed a boundary. We should take note. Now that we've crossed, our attention to Obama's race will dissipate. On the other hand, the fact of his race, name, and lineage will loom large in foreign policy throughout his presidency.
- Michael Markman
@gregory lent. Hmm. I see humans. Don't you?
- Michael Markman
just realised ceebee posted this earlier - sorry man, didn't realise.
- Zee.
@gregory. It isn't just coincidence that all 44 are male, and 43 are white. If we want to follow the path to ensuring that differences are not barriers, we can't deny that historically they have been. Following that path requires us to cross some boundaries into new territory. This graphic marks one such boundary. I believe it puts us closer to your wish of "human not color"
- Michael Markman
We've come far, FAR, in what amounts to only a couple generations. With not only the memory, but the living memory, still so fresh in so many, acknowledging and even celebrating each step down that road to unity is to pay respect to those did and gave so much to bring us this far.
- Michael W. May
I completely agree with your last statement Gregory so why have you bought it up in the first place? (in your first comment)
- Zee.
Celebration and Acknowledgment, even Discussion surrounding a Black Man as US President shouldn't be expunged, ignored, or stifled based on the We're All Created Equal argument. That sounds fairly bananas to me.
- Marko Bon
There's been some focus on race last night and today, but it will probably die down, just as the focus on gender died down within a few days of Pelosi's elevation to Speaker of the House, or O'Connor's elevation to the Supreme Court. Pelosi and O'Connor were eventually evaluated based upon the issues, and Obama will be (and has been) evaluated based on the same.
- Ontario Emperor
i'd have to agree - lets agree on blocking together eh? :)
- Zee.
before, it was a talking point. Today it's history, something that sends a huge message to the rest of the world. South Africa did it before us, now we're in the 20th century. 20th.
- randulo
You can have unity and still see that people are different. Recognizing and accepting our differences can make us stronger. Unity, not uniformity!
- David Knight
Damn, Cotton Hill has been elected a lot of times!

from Bookmarklet
I bookmark so I can give referrals to non-techies that don't use social networking, RSS feeds, etc.
- Shayna
from StumbleRead
just logged in- it is intriging to see what my colleagues are b'marking, but I like how it mostly flows here
- anna sauce
I do. All the time. Reference, lists, snippets - I've called up bookmarks from when I first used the service because I vaguely remembered it (and tagged it well)
- keif
from twhirl
I do and I think the new 2.0 version rocks!
- Susan Beebe
I do too - for things I want to revisit later but don't want necessarily cluttering my bookmarks folder
- Dana Coffey
Since I started using del.icio.us, I stopped using browser's bookmarks. These days I very rarely bookmark anything in del.icio.us, since I Digg/Kick/FF-share etc all the interesting links somewhere, anyway.
- Jemm
Every day, many times a day thanks to FF.
- jcunwired
I think bookmarking your press could certainly be improved and more specialized.
- Caleb Elston
I had a similar thought a few weeks ago. I'm still bookmarking, but they way I do it and the services I use can change.
- Mark Dykeman
I've switched over to Ma.gnolia. Not sure what I will use. Still interested in seeing how Mozilla's Weave technology works.
- James Mowery
from twhirl
i've used delcious daily for years now and still use it to mark sites that i want to remember. The firefox plugin makes it the easiest service to use.
- James Hull
I moved to Diigo but I keep Magnolia and Delicious accounts (fed from there).
- Andrés David Aparicio
from twhirl
only thing I'm really missing: bookmarking stuff directly in one of my friendfeed rooms.
- Benedikt Koehler
benedikt if it has rss feeds, rooms can import that.
- Nicole Simon
del.icio.us power user here :) I believe del.icio.us will go into history as THE most important web2.0 tool. del.icio.us is a tool I truly depend on. Digg, friendfeed, flickr, youtube, they all could be gone... Blogs and del.icio.us are enough to become an expert in anything, without formal education.
- Meryn Stol
I am with Meryn to a degree. delicious has always been the most useful of the services to me, from an individual productivity perspective. I haven't bookmarked anywhere else in years
- Deepak Singh
I am enormously fond of the Ma.gnolia community. But Delicious is fast and useful. I'm actually bookmarking more now than i was a year ago.
- Chris Baskind
I'll chime in with Meryn and Deepak. It took me a bit of time to grok Del.icio.us but ... now I find it to be incredibly useful. Quickly building a store of information that you can return to and fully understand is really nice when things are moving so fast. Others are fun, Del.icio.us is practical - e.g. - not sexy.
- AJ Kohn
