"I agree with your take on pricing for the iPhone version of Torque. $100 per title for a platform that has little chance to make back the money is not in the original vision of how Torque works. Had we taken that stance when first launching GG, TGEA would have never happened, and it would have never had a chance to win the Frontline award." - Jeff Tunnell

"Probably bbPress, but no other plans. Actually phpBB 3.9, which is the only one we support is quite good. It is Open Source, which is the only kind of software we can support. We need to make sure we will always have access to the source code in case we need it. What are you looking for?" - Jeff Tunnell

That's AWESOME. I hope it's fast enough for games. (could be a gimpy CPU that relies on dedicated video playback hardware since that fits the profile for Hulu et al) - Ben Garney

I had an idea for a strip club mini-golf course. Given that where I live has nearly 50 mini-golf courses and several dozen strip clubs within a 60 mile radius, it wasn't that big of a leap. - Paul Reynolds

"Getting out of the market when I did saved me a LOT of money that I can choose to invest now how I wish. I have never claimed to be a great investor, and this post was about why I don't invest in game companies, which I do know about. I am certainly not in the camp of Rock Stars and fast cash, but I know I am right about Yang and Zelnick, i.e. they should have accepted the buyouts. There is a time value of your investment, and taking that into account says I am right now matter what their stocks do in the future." - Jeff Tunnell

“So I'm on my own for Christmas Eve. Seems like a good excuse for a nice dinner. Cheese from Holland and England; olive salad from Italy; and whole wheat crackers from St. Louis. Oh, and a decent bottle of Port -- nothing too pricey, but not junk, either. It's movie time.”

Other possible diversions: Installing my son's Christmas present (a new video card) on his workstation; registering new domains; and watching a couple lines of thunderstorms roll through. Santa better have his top up on the sleigh tonight. Bumpy ride ahead. - Chris Baskind
port, yum. - edythe
Good Port. The Chtistmas Eve beverage of choice. There's plenty of everything, should hungry Friendfeeders be in the area. I'm declaring this my company party. - Chris Baskind
port++ - Chris White
Yeah, still nursing the Port. It was a good choice. A quiet Christmas Eve here in Pensacola. The house is empty, and a deep marine fog has settled in. Smells like the sea. Off to the west, there's a thunderstorm. You can see the flash through the fog now and then, but there's no sound at all. - Chris Baskind
I don't miss being alone on C. Eve, but that port sounds wonderful. Merry Christmas, Kris. :D - Helen Sventitsky

"Have you ever owned stock in a company? Most of the time you own that stock to make money, and you want to most return in the shortest amount of time. No shareholder in yhoo or ttwo wants to wait until 2015 to get back to an amount they could have made today. It is the fiduciary duty of the CEO to maximize that investment. The bottom line is that neither Zelnick or Yang were right. They have been proven wrong. It was wrong for them to turn down the offers. I predict right now that their stocks will never reach the heights they were offered. But it won't matter to them because in 2015 Yang will still have hundreds of millions of dollars and Zelnick will be worth millions as well. But, what about the normal people that have IRA or 401K or retirement money in those stocks. It was greed, ego, or hubris combined that did these deals in. Yang has already stepped down, and Zelnick should be fired." - Jeff Tunnell

"I totally agree, Mike. In Yang's case, I am sure it was years of calling Microsoft the evil empire, years of saying that Yahoo was smarter and more nimble, and then having to swallow pride to take their money in a buy out. What they both forgot was what their job description entailed. They did let their egos take over and forgot their fiduciary duty to their shareholders." - Jeff Tunnell

"I had Braid in there, but it already got so much press that I decided to leave it out. Agree that it was awesome. The iPhone is pointing the way to new hand held gaming experiences for sure, and what you pointed out is right on, i.e. powerful, touch interface, always connected are part of the reason. But, the App Store is far from having a gatekeeper, and is one of the reasons the iPhone is great. Before the App Store an indie had virtually no chance of getting on a cell phone or MID. I have a developer version of the G1, and the Android platform will be important, coming on strong this year as more producers make handsets." - Jeff Tunnell

"Finally got PS Home to run tonight after about 10-15 retrys. I cannot believe how misguided this product is. Everything from the initial concept to the execution. The art is an abysmal conglomeration of unimaginative, uncanny valley "more of the same". I was trying to find some redeeming qualities, but we kept having problems with stability. There were so many crashes and error messages, we did not even make it to the infamous two bowling alleys." - Jeff Tunnell

"Again, I don't want this post to come off as scathing. I hope to not be one of the perpetual bitchers constantly railing against the big game publishers. This is an analysis of why I would not buy their stocks. I do not think they are going out of business, and I think they make great games. I just think they have tapped out their traditional market and distribution method, and they will have a hard time changing." - Jeff Tunnell

"Rooted in their current culture is hitting the nail on the head. These companies simply could not put out a game like Wii Tennis, Club Penguin, Maple Story, or Kart Rider. They can look at those successes and try to emulate their model, but the end product will end up right back in the same demographic and will have a box component attached. Isn't the list of successful Indies starting look cool!" - Jeff Tunnell

"The developer treadmill is a hard place to make a living. Like you say, at a time when your current project is the most difficult, one or two of the main people in the company are out pitching to get the next gig. We broke out of the developer treadmill at Dynamix by using our profits and raising a small amount of money (which I don't recommend) to create our own IP's (project we owned outright). Today I would do that be creating some awesome Flash games that get millions of plays and viewers, then using those titles to leverage into XBLA, PSN, or WiiWare. You have to own your own IP to really make it. Also, don't get me wrong, consoles are not going away any time soon, it is just that when buying stock you have to look a long time into the future." - Jeff Tunnell
