Interesting little post that points out the importance of visualization and experiential learning - especially as it pertains to the Christian life - two of my trending topics of interest and research this past year in my own life.

Because of the place I work and the tools available to me at that workplace, I use SAS, JMP, Excel, and SQL Server to do most of my statistical analysis and visualization of data. SAS is the most powerful (but kludgy) tool, JMP is second with it's excellent interactivity in graphs, and Excel is third with less interactivity, but slightly more visualization customization options.

Couldn't disagree more. Good Magazine has some of the worst data graphics, primarily because they are deceptive and inaccurate in their portrayals of the data they present in their graphics. Yes, the visuals look cool, but they are poor representations of the data. (Good Magazine also tends to be rather hippy/liberal in their reporting, which also tends to skew the conclusions of the data.)

The last paragraph of this entire article is the most important in my life at the moment, in that my parent's generation literally cannot fully understand the age in which my generation (Gen X) and younger live in. Our reality is not their reality.

As I have been saying for awhile, it's going to get quite a bit worse for individuals before it gets better. The big finance companies and two US automakers have already received help, but will the government be willing to help the poor and needy 6 months from now? I doubt it. Probably more big government "programs" that do very little for the needy individual.
