Hey Robert - it's pretty slick. But could use improvement: 1) no way to refresh home feed for updates/ new posts, 2) only shows a certain # of posts in home feed, 3) like buddy feed, you click a post to see comments/likes. But you also have to do the same on long posts to read the entire post.

I knew it was just a matter of time, for some client to access Friendfeed. Though I am sick of ShoZu, Xumi, Pinger and the like for their poor UI and inability to hold conversations. Let us know how alert thingy works. You've inspired me to go try one more client (Mother Feed)

I feel it's a good effort, but judging by the standards set by Tweetie and Twitterrific, we could either have a long way to go with this or could see more developers jumping in this untapped area.

no sitting! wait, I mean no standing! Just bought it. It's pretty sweet! It's clean and has a nice small but readable font so more fits on the page. Plus, the images are only one fast tap away. May be the better way to do it (for speed) and later maybe have as a pref? No crashes so far either ;)

I prefer the FriendFeed iPhone web page to either BuddyFeed or AlertThingy, it shows the post comments inline. Comments are one of the big features of FF, so having to tap tap tap between posts just to read comments is too much tapping.

AlertThingy just stopped working for me. It shows it's splash screen then terminates. I have rebooted my iPhone and the problem persists.

Mike, I've tried AltertThingy, MotherFeed, BuddyFeed, and Nambu. Each has their strengths and weaknesses -- maybe I should write a mini-review :).

That would be nice :) What turns me off about some of these apps is that it does multiple social networks which usually means compromises in being able to best interface with any one of the social networks. On the desktop front, apps like Seesmic are figuring it out in terms of multiple accounts but I feel the iPhone is behind in terms of a one app for all. So until that happens I'll have the Facebook app for FB and Tweetie for Twitter.

FF's iPhone site is pretty good without any third party apps, although I've only tried out MotherFeed.

Sanat, I disagree about the web interface for FF being good. I find it challenging at best. I'd love to see this program developed (refresh and ability to like entries faster) and it'd be good.

I've really only used the iPhone web interface and BuddyFeed, but the one thing I liked about BuddyFeed is the ability to use your photo library when creating posts. That'd be impossible (I think) with a web interface. All the available options are missing the new FriendFeed features like DMing and notifications, but that's a limitation of the available API.

Unfortunately AlertThingy crashes on every start. Even rebooting doesn't help. Interestingly, the first time I launched, it did work.

The program was okay for short bursts of activity but not long time periods. I'll stick with BuddyFeed for now. The program is getting started and I can see some enhancements would make life on FF easier. For example, I didn't figure out how to get to "my discussions" easily. Also, the problem with refresh was annoying. I'll keep watching the program and see how it develops. In time,...

Most of the friendfeed apps suck. I recently got a promo code from the developer of buddyfeed. It has been the best so far. Otherwise, I just use the web interface.

It looks really nice, Jeremy. I gave you 4 stars. One other note - when you are reading a specific post, I should be able to jump directly to that user's profile page - so I can follow them, etc - but I couldn't get that to work. I hope web links will work in the next version, too.

If the FF guys wouldn't mind me just using there icon then I'd definitely use it but I don't want to step on any toes. Ideally someone talented would make me one that both emphasizes FF (through the 2 F's) and the mobile aspect (motion blur maybe?)

Twirl has not has issues, it just happens to rely on the twitter api being up, which is the unreliable part. As long as the FF API can keep up with demand an Adobe Air app that works as good as twirl would be sweet.

Those lucky enough to be at the adobe AIR Tour - London yesterday would have seen a demo of the app plus a demo of a couple of bugs we need to fix :). The launch is currently being held up by thawte who we are waiting on to issue our digital certificate! Once that is done we are good to go. Thanks for all the offers, we have enough beta testers on windows and mac for now, but would be interested in anyone running AIR on linux! (via Alert Thingy)

Regarding the attribution for comments, how about adding a conditional "from %APPNAME%" tag wrapped in <small> tags after the name? It would be displayed only if there was a valid source for that comment. Thumbs-up? -down?

Just a wee thing: when you hit the "comment" button: shouldn't your cursor start flashing in that field instead of having to click into it as well? Keep it up, it's going to be a winner! I don't think it hides the entries set to be hidden on FF. Anyone else can confirm this?

@Turker: I wrote about that this morning, so yeah, I can confirm. It's still showing my hidden stuff as I type this. I think the fault lies with the FriendFeed API, though. So far as I know, there's no indication of hiding status available.

It really is a nice piece of work, but I find the whole dark/translucent thing too hard to read. I also miss the collapsing of long comment threads (like this one). In fact, I didn't realize how nice a feature that was until I didn't have it and had to scroll and scroll to get to a new comment.

Can someone explain to me, in 42 words or less, why an app like this is better than just accessing FF over the web? Color me seriously confused. I'd try it myself, but I get an error anytime I try to download it (and yes, I have Air installed).

@Adam Lasnik - Firefox can't handle a lot of tabs (non beta) and I'd rather use Alert Thingy or bTittleTattle then leave FriendFeed open in Firefox. (via Alert Thingy)

@corvida ahh but, FF3 beta is solid and handles a wealth of tabs with great aplomb. :) I've got my eye on AT, but for now it taketh more functionality than it giveth. I suspect with all this attention, though, it will soon giveth a lot more!

Corvida, or you could do what I do when I want to keep one or two tabs open persistently and easy-to-switch-to (e.g., Pandora): open them in Internet Exploder. What I was hoping to hear was that this Air app offered intriguing / helpful "extras" that one doesn't innately get in the web version. For instance, I use Twhirl because it aurally alerts me to direct messages AND displays all messages to me in chron order on one scrolling page -- something not offered on the Twitter web page.

@Felix I FF Betas crash on me way more than FF2 and that's more important to me. @Lasnik I don't have IE installed =P Don't want to keep 2 browsers open anways, it's defeating the point in a way. I'm still wasting resources, though I think Alert Thingy is less of a waste.
