Open space is a method for rapidly organizing a conference. The idea came from Harrison Owen, a conference organizer who noticed that when he asked people what the best part of his conferences were, they invariably would talk about the coffee breaks. Open space is a conference-design game, where the goal of the game is to make a conference that has the same energy and dynamism as a good coffee break. The open space model has been picked up and modified by many people, including Tim O'Reilly (FOO Camp) and Chris Messina (Barcamps).
