For some reason on first glance that looked like a bunch of various sushi. - Wensleydale Scoble
How do you hunt them? - todd
darn i cant see pics on fftogo... glad to see you back though ;) - Brandon via fftogo
Todd, the mountains of North Carolina have significant pockets of garnet, ruby, sapphire and more. You put the dirt into a sifter and use a water flume to rinse off the soil. The mine we go frequent uses a bulldozer to make a big pile of native soil and you can pay $30 to dig and rinse as much as you like (which we did yesterday). Today we wanted something that involved less manual labor, so we bought 'salted' buckets which means the mine owners put some nicer stones and some non-native stones (like the tiger eye and aquamarine). - Stupid Blogger (aka Tina)
thats awesome Tina! great finds indeed! i find it amazing that all of thse gems can be found in one area. usually there are only high concentrations of one type where others may exist, but are not as favorable. this is usually the case when talking about semi-precious gems like citrine and amethyst. i should post pics of my stash rough emeralds so you can see them. - Carlos Ayala
Carlos: it's a result of some lucky geography and chemistry, truth be told. These mountains are ancient, so stones that are chemically the same but exhibit different characteristics based on how they were formed (i.e. rubies and sapphires) are pretty common. Many of the rubies, and some of the sapphires, that are native here are star rubies. They do best when cut into a cabachon, such as these http://www.awesomegems.com/rub... - Stupid Blogger (aka Tina)
Oh, and I'd love to see your stash! This is just a selection of what I found over two days. Perhaps if I get bored tomorrow I'll sort it all out and get some 'group' shots (as I now have a crapload of rubies and sapphires of varying sizes). - Stupid Blogger (aka Tina)

"Someone sent me this photo in an email saying it was the tornado that hit the Boy Scout Camp. BUT...Nope, this one was on June 10th and the Boy Scout Camp was hit June 11th. Here's the story from the AP. A huge tornado funnel cloud touches down in Orchard, Iowa, Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at 9:04 p.m. The Globe Gazette and Mitchell County Press News reported that Lori Mehmen of Orchard, took the photo from outside her front door. Mehmen said the funnel cloud came near the ground and then went back up into the clouds. Besides tree and crop damage, no human injuries were reported. " - RAPatton via Bookmarklet

“QUESTION: If you wanted me to do a logo for you and I told you I charged $25 for the logo and up to two revisions and then $5 for each additional revision, would that seem pretty fair to you?”
October 8 at 3:56 pm - Link
Seems about fair, as long as you both agree on the original design to start from - Cains
Dude you aren't charging enough. Even Nike paid $50 for their swoosh. - Wensleydale Scoble
that's really cheap. - Cee Bee
Cool. I wasn't totally sure as I'm just really starting to get into the freelance game. I tried to once before, through odesk.com and couple of other sites, but I learned that I wasn't going to get any work, because I was new and I wasn't willing to work for $2. Now, I use Craigslist. - Mathew Ballard
That's very cheap. - Trish R
Mathew, it seems fair :) Though, it does depend on your skillz ;) - Michael Forian
I am thinking you are getting ripped off - Brian Sullivan
Most designers I know charge $75 per hour, no matter how long it took to do a logo. That's pretty damn reasonable to me. I would venture to to +1 Alex and state that you aren't charging enough. - Mavericky Awesomesausages
I would say that's on the cheap side, yeah. - Lindsay Donaghe
I'm just starting out. As I build up my portfolio with better work I'll start charging more. Plus this logo may lead to me doing a flash site which is where I would make some bucks. - Mathew Ballard
I'd feel like that was too cheap, and probably assume your work wasn't up to snuff. - Bec
Seems too cheap. - Tad - the Meme Maker
Seems like a bargain to me too. Even if you do go up a bit, at those kinds of rates, I've got a few projects I'd like to throw your way. - J Wynia
@Bec All you have to do is look at my portfolio site to see the work I can do. - Mathew Ballard
I have no idea about pricing for this stuff, but my opinion is that that seems cheap. - Rochelle
Well, I may charge more then. If that seems cheap, what would seem fair to you all? - Mathew Ballard
Or maybe I'll just go by my hourly rate. - Mathew Ballard
Matthew, depends on experience and skill. If you have both then $75/hour seems reasonable. If you're lacking then lower prices. without experience $25/hour may not be too bad. - Tad - the Meme Maker
Very underpriced IMO. Charging cheap doesn't always pay off when you are just starting freelancing work, that client will tell his partners "oh this guy does logos for $25" and you'll end up with a 60hr week earning $150/wk. Don't be afraid to charge what YOU think you are worth. Personally, a logo takes time to consider before photoshop is even thought of - and that's £35/hr minimum... - Matt Harwood
We were charge 50 including two revisions by a student just starting her portfolio. We were pleased and felt she could have charged a little more. - Heather
That's extremely cheap, imo. I charge a hell of a lot more than that for logos. If all else fails, go with how long it takes you instead of a set price. It all depends on your experience, education, location and talent level. - Carmen
Agree with Matt and Tad. Not sure I'd do it for less than $75/hr either. A logo is something they want to be quality... it represents their business. People should be willing to pay fairly for it. - Lindsay Donaghe
I just think $25 is cheap because it will take longer than an hour and even $25 an hour is cheap. - Trish R
It sounds good. - Paul W. Swansen
That's not even close to enough money. - Jeremy Brooks
Sorry, I think I came across as rude there :) What I mean is, I don't think that cheap would represent value to me. A bargain is a good thing, but I think that $25 seems *too* cheap. I think a fair, hourly rate is the best idea, perhaps with a cap. - Bec
considering how ridiculously low that price structure is, yes, that's more than fair. - Faboo Mama

omg. Start with 'Holy Grail' and get back to us in a few days... - Bren
I think out of context they may be hard to find funny. But envision Different Strokes, and Benny Hill, Dirty Hairy, and Hart to Hart on different channels. Then you get these guys asking "what's the velocity of an African swallow?" "Laden, or unladen?" "Unladen." - anna awesomesauce
In a lot of ways they are everything they're cracked up to be - and sometimes more. While a lot of the jokes, skits and dialog seem very non-sequitor, they're often tied into a bunch of extra references that they take for granted that their audience will either get (or, if they don't, the Python guys didn't really care). My favorite - the abrupt, plot-less end of "Holy Grail" -- just like one of the original Aurthurian poems (the author died). - Jennifer Dittrich
Well, first you should know that Monty Python isn't a movie.. it's a comedy troupe that had British TV show called "Monty Python's Flying Circus" in the early 70s. There are similar, more contemporary troupes like "The Kids in the Hall" and even "Mad TV." You are probably thinking of "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" which was their best-known movie. If you really want a concentrated portion of their humor, rent a season of "Flying Circus".. that will get you in the mood for one of their movies. - Phil Glockner
Could be taken on 'oliday! - Mark VandenBerg
If you aren't quite there yet, you can start with more mainstream movies penned by John Cleese.. watch "A Fish Called Wanda" or even "Fierce Creatures". Or, rent a season of "Faulty Towers" -- that is pure Cleese. Once you 'get' Cleese, you will understand about 80% of Monty Python's stuff. - Phil Glockner
yes and no (I personally enjoy them but I haven't memorized them so i can walk around quoting them like passages from A Midsummer Night's Dream) - they are a bit like Wes Anderson movies (which i strongly dislike): some people love 'em, some people hate 'em - Marco (aureliusmaximus)

it's just sketch comedy, done with lots of non sequiter segues and trippy animations. Oh, and there's a high level of comedic genius involved as well, so that doesn't hurt the quality level at all. - Pete Delucchi
well I like some of the scenes on the TV show, but I like the movies more - clarke thomas

Norway, right? - Bren
It's a 'Mr. Death' or something. He's come about the reaping? I don't think we need any at the moment. - Michael Kowalchik
The Grim Reaper skit in meaning of life is one of my favorites for some reason. "Shut up! Shut up, you American. You always talk, you Americans. You talk and you talk and say 'let me tell you something' and 'I just wanna say this'. Well, you're dead now, so shut up!" - Michael Kowalchik
My friend wanted me to do silly walk with him at graduation. That is pretty funny. - anna awesomesauce
Taking notes on the classic skits - Aaron Krug
Get a Fawlty Towers box set from Amazon (Cleese only made 12 episodes). And tell us what you think. - Roberto Bonini
Netflix or somehow RENT the TV shows first. Like a tree, the TRUNK is Flying Circus...the rest of it springs from that...it gives you context for the movies that you'll also need to see...then maybe you can hit some of the videos of the live shows and even Faulty Towers. But watch the Flying Circus TV Shows IN ORDER! (towards the end of its run, Cleese leaves...and that changed the show) That's how I would go about beginning the journey that is Python... Good Luck.... - Live4Soccer
