"I think my “art” imitates my life. So much of what is in my photographs comes from experiences and people I’ve encountered in my life. Of places I’ve been to, of places I’ve lived. Of women I’ve loved, and the periods of life I’ve lived through. Of what I’ve seen and felt. These emotions are put into and come through in my photographs."

A few weeks back I blogged about the latest Flickr feature, galleries. I’ve been using and making galleries now for a few weeks and thought I’d take a second to record my follow up observations after my initial post on the launch. I’ve been making one new gallery a day since Flickr launched the service. Conceptually I think the idea of allowing users the ability to curate galleries of images on Flickr super interesting — one of the more interesting ways to use the service actually. Practically speaking though I think that their are some serious flaws to how this service has been designed and I think that it could be significantly improved.

I agree entirely. I think it's a good idea, but it definitely feels a little half baked. In practice, it's more like being able to group together some faves - and like the existing favorites feature, it's really not that useful to anyone but the user with the gallery. The interface design could use some work too - using that drop down "add to gallery" will get to be a serious pain once you've created hundreds of them.

Thomas, I tend to agree with your review. It seems like a nice start but it needs some features adding in order to be truly good. At the moment I don't see a great deal of reason to use it in preference to the Mobile site. In fact some of the mobile site features such as nearby photos are missing from the app. I addition it seems buggy - it doesn't seem to update properly and shows my...

I think that they will work these sorts of bugs out over time. Probably the thing that I dislike the most is that a lot of my contact's photos seem to be missing from the experience. I'm not sure why some contacts are included in my case, but others are not. I also suspect, but can't confirm, that they are censoring out any content labeled restricted... even if on your flickr settings...

Yeah I'm sure bugs will get sorted over time. It'll probably be a lot better in a version or two. Not sure I can be bothered reporting bugs to Yahoo though, I wouldn't mind putting them in the help forum for Flickr but the Yahoo page looks too much like hard work. Shame the devs won't look at the Flickr help forum. I hadn't noticed any missing pics but I haven't used it a lot yet... seems to kill my battery.

I can't really comment since I can't even get signed onto it. I'm gonna give it another shot when I get home and can get on wifi.
- ChiliMac
It took me a long time to get it to work yesterday as well. The authentication page wouldn't load for about 4 hours and that was on a wifi connection. Finally got it to take at the end of the day.

It is a good start. Provided they continue to update it, it has potential. Facebook keeps improving their app so there is no reason Flickr shouldn't.

Thomas, check out darkslide for the photos near me feature. Nice app. They make a free and a paid version. http://bit.ly/sjJh9

This is my fist shape writer note. I can now create text on the iPhone as fast (well, almost) as I type on the computer.
-in above text test you see one error in my texting and slidewriter recommended "first" to correct (see pic) Nice App!
I wish I could add this gadget, but when I enable the Gadgets from any URL thing in Labs, I don't see the form to enter the URL under the Gadgets tab. Apparently several people have this problem (went to the Google Groups to add feedback that it's not working correctly), and no one has offered up any solution. :( Sucks!
- Cheryl Jones
Finally get the idea,it is cool though, but not very practical.
- Steve Chou
The URL tab is added to your settings area, not the Labs area. That was confusing for me.
- Yolanda
That is so cool! For me, the only problem is the width which is not appropriate but it works fine
- Rémi Fayolle
@Yolanda: I know. The description for the Labs item that you enable says that a Gadgets tab will be enabled on the Settings page, but clicking on that Gadgets tab doesn't show the form where you can enter the URL like it's supposed to. Bah.
- Cheryl Jones
@cheryljones I'm having the same problem too. I just get a blank page on the gadgets tab. Let me know if you figure out how to import.
- Al Stevens
@Al: Just for fun I went back to the Gadget tab in my Gmail settings, and the URL form box is there now. Just added the FriendFeed gadget to Gmail, yay!
- Cheryl Jones
Hmmm. The FF gadget is less useful than I thought. First of all, there doesn't seem to be a way to manually refresh it without refreshing Gmail as a whole (perhaps I'm too impatient waiting for updates). Also you can't post an original post through the gadget. And the number of FF updates shown by the gadget is limited. I thought I'd be able to see older posts. Oh well, it might be good for occasional use.
- Cheryl Jones
Nice, but wish the tabs in Gmail had replacing options..

Paintalicious has a gallery of artist Thomas Allen's book photography. Allen cuts the figures from vintage paperbacks and folds them up and out of the cover to create dioramas. (http://www.boingboing.net/2009...)

Happy 1st year of dating anniversary to us! The traditional gift is paper, and the modern gift is clocks, so here's something in the middle... Found this on Yellow Owl Workshop http://www.yellowowlworkshop.com/lcd... and colored in the message myself. (I found out about it through Daily Candy.) Very nice digital expression of love :)
"With developers rushing like wild dogs to build and launch applications to make your Twitter (Twitter reviews) experience more productive, how can you choose which is the best tool to use if you’re running queries on your company name and competitor’s product line, or references on small-town bakeries or Red Sox pitchers?"

"The premise behind Spreadtweet is simple: The interface looks just like a Excel spreadsheet, and the casual passer-by will probably be fooled into thinking it's real, actual work. Even the "dock" icon is a dead ringer for Microsoft's (MSFT) Excel icon."

Is anyone using Scrim? http://scr.im/ "Convert your email address into a short, cute and safe link you can share on the web, in Twitter, forums, Craigslist, anywhere (why?)"
I use it for FriendFeed groups so my email isnt sold onto a spam list or anything. Works great for me
- Ryan Selvy
Gmail lets you create as many fake addresses as you like, so you can effectively turn them off by filtering them out whenever you need to.
- Stan Scott
Just started using it now for my pro website, thanks :)

I'm using otherinbox for temporary addresses. I've got a .tel domain to use as an online business card.

Hard to be hopeful after being told to get used to the idea of trillion dollar deficits for the next decade. It is a very cool photo, though.

Yeah we'll be going into deficit this year here in Canada -- but nowhere near what y'all are dealing with in the US

Hi, my name is Cassandra, and I was wondering who took this photo... I'm doing a project for a photo class I'm taking where we're supposed to learn about photos we find inspiring, and was wondering whether I could talk to you about it.
- cassandra
Hi Cassandra. Honestly, I have no idea where it came from. Sorry :(

Nicely stated, and a good picture, that is exactly it there is a chance to grow beyond the challenges of now and it is already happening.

It used to be that the previous versions sulks alot but the last 2 versions has been working well on my MacBook. I have stopped using TweetDeck bcos of Nambu. Be warm tho.. it saps alot of productivity from using it.
