"Not since the arrival of the Blackbird, Fly has their been so much anticipation for the release of a Toy Camera. We receive emails daily asking about the Digital Harinezumi, and finally I can give you all of the details. But first, there is that question you all have been asking: Can you have a digital Toy Camera? Yes, you can. You just have to develop the camera with the Toy user in mind, which is exactly what SuperHeadz has done. By starting with the idea of constructing a low-fi digital camera, and purposely adding things like a plastic lens and small chip they have succeeded in bring to market what will become an icon. Far from just a camera, the Harinezumi has become my journal, documenting each day in little bursts of video and images."

I did upgrade last summer. I would like to get a different VR lens than the 18-200, and the other stuff I just haven't been using. I have a 70-300 VR that came with my D90, and for a flash I've been using the SB-400.

Thanks, All! I don't think that the dentist I'm going to is going to give me any "fun" drugs for recovery, but we'll see. Hopefully since it's only one that it won't be so bad. It's been giving me trouble for a long time anyway (it's broken!), so I'm glad to be rid of it.
- Cheryl Jones
I'm so happy I have never had issues with wisdom teeth, but I have had two teeth extracted. It wasn't too bad. It didn't hurt that much because one was already broken in half and the other had already fallen out and had the part with the nerves still attached. Just be aware of Dry Socket. That's when the blood clot that protects the socket gets dislodged and it is painful. Rinse your mouth out with warm salt water and keep gauze around it for a while and it'll help with the healing.
- Mol, Santa Claws
Thanks, Mol. I have been rinsing with warm salt water, but (and not to gross anyone out or anything) I'm still tasting a bit of blood in my mouth from time to time. Had to put in gauze a couple times today, but it hasn't fully stopped the little bit of bleeding. Just had some applesauce to help mask the taste. :P Will rinse with salt water again soon, I guess.

"Once you’ve had three Thanksgiving meals in three different cities, you enter a zone where your next meal needs to be the complete and total opposite of turkey and dressing. A light palette cleanser, perhaps? Maybe a crisp, refreshing sorbet? Oh, HELL no. When you’re serious about hitting the reset button on your palette and your appetite, you’ve really got to go with something like a Philly Cheesesteak. Something packed with beef and onions and peppers and, yes, Cheez Whiz. DON’T YOU JUDGE ME. I’m not a huge fan of processed foods, either, but an authentic cheesesteak requires an ample slathering of the orange stuff. ‘Tis the season. When in Rome. Oh, just do it."

What? Is it the Cheez Whiz? I think it looks tasty, but I'm a big fan of trashy food sometimes. :)

I could go for a real cheesesteak. Had a west coast, yuppie-ified impostor cheesesteak the other day, and am still upset about it.
- Christopher A Carr
What's in a west-coast, yuppie-ified cheesesteak sandwich?
- Cheryl Jones
I have to admit that according to this, I haven't had a "real" Philly cheesesteak, since a) I haven't been to Philly, and b) the cheesesteak sandwiches I've had had real cheese, like provolone or swiss or something like that.
- Cheryl Jones
Real cheese steaks won't use fresh jalapenos either, just ones from jars.

"It's a relief to finally lay hands on the Nook. The dual-screen reader was just a prop at its unveiling so I'm happy to report it works (pretty) well. It can't kill Kindle yet, but it's an alternative worth considering."
- Derrick
from Bookmarklet
I really want a reader and I like how shiny the Nook is, but the Kindle has serious marketshare. But what's with the eBook DRM? It's like iTunes. :(
- Derrick
Amazon's marketshare and e-book cred convinced me to go with the Kindle. I really liked Sony's Reader (we have two), but their store was awful, and required software that didn't work on the Mac. That's changed now, though. Sony's e-book store is going DRM-free, IIRC, and they have software for the Mac. But I still prefer Amazon's wireless downloads. I hooked up the Kindle to my computer once, maybe. And I read lots of e-books on the Kindle app on the iPhone.
- Cheryl Jones
That said, I'm watching the Nook very closely. Love the hybrid form factor and the perks they have for users, like being able to read e-books for free at a B&N store, and being able to lend out e-books to other people even if they don't have a Nook.
- Cheryl Jones
Cheryl: Sony is going entirely epub, an ebook "standard"--but epub does allow for DRM, and AFAIK Sony's store will still use DRM.
- Walt Crawford
With this, you can check out e-books from your library if it supports checking out e-books.
- Rodfather
I want Ebook reader that is good for technical documents and complex slides, so I am waiting for Plasticlogic Que which hopefully should come next month ready to ship.
- ashish
@Walt: thanks for the clarification. I knew that when I was typing that Sony was going DRM-free, that just didn't seem right. :)

"I recently turned a broccoli basher into a fan. My husband used to despise cauliflower, but now he loves it. My kid now begs me to make okra. What's the secret? They all taste like completely different creatures when they're roasted. Cooking veggies in a 450-degree oven helps bring out the natural sugars, caramelizing the surfaces. Slimy okra gets crispy. Broccoli flowers develop a nice crunch. Cauliflower, which I toss in curry powder and olive oil, becomes golden and mellow."

I prepared these broccoli, red pepper, and portobello melts for Thanksgiving day lunch, and they were pretty awesome. Everything was prepared in the broiler. Broiled the veggies first until they cooked down, then arranged them on thick slices of bread, topped with shredded mozzarella (the recipe called for gouda slices, but my bro and hubby aren't big on cheese), and broiled again until the cheese melted. I'll definitely make that again. :)

"My son got a special package in the mail today… It’s a replica of the stuffed tiger Hobbes from the Calvin & Hobbes comic strip. This is meant to be the stuffed version of Hobbes, as opposed to the anthropomorphic tiger from Calvin’s point of view. Bill Watterson, the comic’s creator, has refused the use of Calvin and Hobbes in merchandising of any sort and thus there are no authorized reproductions in existence. I had this one custom made as a gift for my son. And maybe it’s just me, but I think he looks a little like Calvin when he carries it around."

"The melt is great. The dark chocolate (not totally dark, there is some milkfat in there, like most Dove) melts a bit quicker than the white chocolate. It’s a silky and fatty melt, slick and with some decent woodsy cocoa notes, but there’s also a cocoa experience ... a dryness like eating cocoa powder. No worries though the white chocolate layer is sweet, also fatty and of course minty. There’s a slight vanilla note to it and a bit of a dairy milk flavor with a hint of salt. The creaminess offsets the dry bite, as long as you eat the layers together. The whole effect is a mint meltaway with a really tasty chocolate punch to it. Far and away better than an Andes Mint. The candy bits provide a good crunch (though I don’t necessarily need them, but without them it’s not a very convincing bark product.) Price aside, these are awesome. They really fit the holiday season with the mint and chocolate combo. It’s also available in an actual bark shape, but I haven’t seen that in stores."

Of course, nothing is ever really that ridiculous where Devo is involved, ridiculousness being key to their creative mandate. And I’ve always found Nine Inch Nails somewhat ridiculous as well, so Devo’s re-do of their angst anthem actually goes down better in these parts than the original."

Hmmm, just off the top of my head, unless the D80 is unsharp with other lenses, I think it might be the 50mm. But I've heard that the 1.8 is sharper wide open than the 1.4 (but don't quote me on that). Perhaps check DPReview forums on Nikon lenses to see other people's experiences re: 1.8 v. 1.4?

I don't think it's worth the upgrade. I've had the 50 1.8, 35 1.8, and now use the 50 1.4 (never at the same time). I've taken sharp and soft photos with all of them. Wide open you've got 2 things working against you: 1) the lenses aren't sharpest wide open, they all do better around f/2.8 and best around f/4 and 2) wide open the DOF is crazy small, especially for the 1.4, so you need...
