what do you like better about feedly then friendfeed or others? just curious. I'm trying to cut back, not add more tools, great s they might be. i'm exploding!
- washwords
Can I like this 3x. Thanks for a GREAT recommendation, Bwana. My new fave Firefox extension.
- Leo Laporte
Wow, even the screensaver function is cool...I might be leaning to feedly and away from greader...
- Anthony Farrior
Revisited based on a few 'endorsements' here on FF. Wow. Easy, fast, just cool.
- Charlie Anzman
I definitely need to spend more time with it, because on first impression, it's just too much information in one place.
- cecily
What are the implications of "no thanks"? Same as "Mark as read"?
- Andrew Smith
@cecily if you get a chance, go to the feedly dashboard (through dashboard link at the top right of the screen) and click on the star next to the sources you like the most and see if the what's new page looks any better. The other option is to click on the "cover" icon on the top left on the nav bar and see if that view is more diggestable. If you have specific ideas on how to make the interface more appealing let us know!
- Edwin Khodabakchian
@andrew no thanks = mark the article as read + let the feedly recommendation engine know that you did not like this recommendation. This metadata is then used with other criteria to unfluence future recommendations.
- Edwin Khodabakchian
@Bwana Where is Feedly video, I love Bwana TV more than Scobleizer TV : ))
- Erhan Erdogan
Edwin, one main suggestion - use plain language. Why call it "no thanks" when "mark item as read" is more intuitive (and doesn't require guessing)?
- cecily
Hmm... have speed dial already loaded upon feedly install and cannot find feedly anywhere
- Michael W. May
from twhirl
I installed and uninstalled all in 1 minute.
- Aaron Myers
Erhan, thanks :) I need to learn how to utilize it properly before I screencast it...it's coming soon though, I love this thing
- Bwana ☠
I tried it but wasn't that impressed with it.
- BCK
Looks promising, but I'm always suspicious of extensions that don't come from Mozilla addons site...
- João Almeida
What do you guys say to the folks who say Feedly crapped all over their Google Reader (adding feeds to it)?
- David Risley
It's in this thread David: http://friendfeed.com/e... We asked for a bigger warning since the one there is easily missed, the Feedly guys chime in as to why they did it that way. It doesn't "crap" all over your feed, it does create new folders, but they are easily removed. They are working on an undo procedure as well.
- Bwana ☠
iGoogle has been my home page for well over a year and what I have found is that via widgets its generally there for me to either click on gmail or to go into google reader - the other widgets are generally worth an odd glance but thats about it - I've put feedly as my home page and will see how this works out - but first impressions is a clean easy to use interface even if you have a few hundred feeds to juggle..
- Jican
Feedly is awesome: I had a few hiccups after installation, but I re-installed, and it has been a real help in 2 ways: 1) motivated me to clean up my feeds and sort them into a major category 2)motivates me daily to actually skim through and read the content that is closest to my current interests. well done!
- Terri MacMillan
Not dissing Feedly, but didn't experience anything that made me want to give up Google Reader when I tried Feedly a few months ago. Anyone care to explain why I should try again?
- Chris Stevenson
I don't work for them, so I don't see a reason to convince you. Some people like it, some don't.
- Fleagle
Hi Chris: feedly tries to provide a magazine like summary of your google reader. Some users only care about productivity and find the magazine like interface a step backward. Some users like it and use it in concert with their google reader. Some people prefer using the magazine like interface only.
- Edwin Khodabakchian
"This year, however, proponents of same-sex marriage have found encouragement in both the California Supreme Court decision and in a subsequent order by Gov. David A. Paterson of New York, instructing agencies in his state to recognize same-sex marriages performed legally elsewhere. The California court has also rebuffed several challenges to its May 15 decision, made by two conservative legal groups and by Republican attorneys general who fear that the California marriages will lead to legal challenges brought in their own states."
- Bret Taylor
The current UK administration defused the issue of same sex unions by the introduction of Civil Partnerships in 2005 linked to an across the board change of relevant laws to provide parity with married couples - with the exception of those with religiious objections (who should really know better) this has gone smoothly and been introduced across the UK. Its not called a marriage but has all the advantages (and responsibilities!) of the mixed sex varaint.
- Jican
The opposition should be pleased. Now that they're married, they'll be having less sex.
- Phil Wolff
from Alert Thingy
our friends Bob and Michael get married in SF on August 20th.
- Todd Mundt
Is that Bruce Willis in the second picture? j/k
- Nesta Campbell
It makes me very happy to see gay folks entering the light in California. I'm also very amused at how frustrating it must be to the Right. Well, I guess in a few years one of us will be proven right. Either a small percentage of the population of California will be happily married and gay or the country will lay in smouldering ruins and people will be having sex with box turtles.
- Chrimmus Tad
Tad: I feel a box turtle urge coming on! Hah.
- Robert Scoble
@Tad - I had box turtles as pets when I was kid. Never considered that activity with them though...
- Hutch Carpenter
"It does not affect your daily life very much if your neighbor marries a box turtle. But that does not mean it is right. Now you must raise your children up in a world where that union of man and box turtle is on the same legal footing as man and wife." - Rick Santorum (Idiot) ex-Senator from Virginia
- Chrimmus Tad
Dude in the pic with "Bruce Willis" is freakin HYOOOGE! I wonder how many opponents of gay marriage have been pwned by his hand...LOL
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Whoa, don't push Santorum on us Virginians! hehe
- jcunwired
Oh crap - sorry to pollute Virginia with Santorum! Oops. I wouldn't wish that on anyone...
- Chrimmus Tad
I hope it "sticks". My boyfriend and I are waiting until after November. To have the rug pulled from under us after enjoying a few months of wedded bliss would be too much for the heart to bear.
- Jason Menayan
Congrats to all the new couples, with wishes for many happy years.
- Chris Baskind
In my home town in Austria, we had a case of a black man and a white woman wanting to marry, they ended up being refused by the marriage registrar. Of course, we also haven't got gay marriage legalized here. The US have problems, but in some cases, law is way more progressive than in Europe.
- sebmos
@Phil: LOL! This has certainly been a momentous (and good) development. But it would be nice to see these kinds of decisions made through the legislative process. The fact that this decided in the courts will make the outcome more contentious than it would have been had the population been forced to have a legitimate conversation about the issue. The more bigoted corners of our society now have a victim card to play - and play it they shall...
- Forrest Cox
@Forrest: The genius of our system of government lies in its checks and balances. In particular, an unfettered democracy would be subject to the problem of the "tyranny of the majority". Fortunately this is offset by our Constitution and our courts, whose job is to ensure that individual rights are not trampled on, no matter how unpopular that individual may be, for whatever reason. Any bigots playing the victim card are ignorant of basic civics.
- Ruchira S. Datta
@Ruchira I agree. The Cali court is playing exactly its Constitutional role, and it's essentially a conservative and Federalist approach to reconciling changing societal mores and the demands of a minority. As I've commented elsewhere, we are winning this argument, and we're doing it state by state, rather than through a Federal fiat, which simply is not feasible at this time. All good things...
- Rick Powell
Is it me or have we lost the annotation capability since the last update? Cant seem to get it activate?
- Jican
Ah it might be a problem with the Entire Content inlined view option - the annotate option appears if you click on the title of the item which take you to a single page view of the item with the annotate one of the options
- Jican
Jican: Good catch. It will take a few more weeks before the annotations bubble in the "Entire Content Inlined view option".
- Edwin Khodabakchian
It has been really fun so far, it fubar'd my google reader subscriptions tho. I like the ability to drill down to different views depending on the depth of your experience. Overview pages are nice in one view, a blog is great in full content view. Annotations are really cool and well integrated. It is not updating as dynamically as I was hoping, if I've seen an article and clicked through, why is it still the #1 on my What's New?
- Dave Senior
Watch out for Feedly. It's gonna add a bunch of feeds and tags to your Google Reader.
- Mohamed J
Curious to know the difference between it and iGoogle? Is it better and worth the change?
- Nancy Williams
@dave regarding being more dynamic, feedly tries to keep a consistent presentation of the magazine for 6 minutes to help the navigation. We had a more dynamic layout manager initially and more mainstream users felt a little lost. Based on your feedback, this is an area we might have to experiment more or offer more control to the user.
- Edwin Khodabakchian
Feedly has certainly been the most polished application out of the gate that I have encountered recently. I had a similar positive response to the one that I had when I became aware of Friendfeed - both applications fit in well with the way I keep up to date with the information flow. The application has clearly benefited from extensive private beta testing and as a result its supplanted iGoogle as my usual Home Page...
- Jican
from fftogo
Loving Feedly and feeling more organized. Did have problem with not playing nice with another extension, but Feedly won out, hands down. The other extension is history. Feedly's the first thing I look at.
- Ro (Lilyhill)
It's very nice looking, but I don't like how it automatically adds a bunch of feeds to Google Reader
- Brandon Wood
i don't get it. :( I'm just not grocking the flow of this... i don't see why i would prefer this to google reader + friendfeed. what am i missing?
- Chris Hollander
Chris - If you are a GR power user Feedly is much slower. Feedly mostly adds a UI plus recommendations and new sources are highlighted.
- Russellreno
Feedly is officially fired. I don't remember giving it permission to spam my GR subscriptions with feeds that i didn't explicitly add...
- Chris Hollander
@edwin: first, thanks for the very, very quick feedback- this level of attention is very much appreciated. as for the change- yes, this would have been much better.
- Chris Hollander
I like Feedly...it's giving me a whole new perspective on sharing of feeds/blogs with my friends and vice versa. I really like the UI ...nice organization
- Susan Beebe
I'd use it if it would freakin' INSTALL. :( I can't understand why my FF3 is rejecting it. I really wanted to give this a go. Apparently others are having issues as well.
- Lisa Lee
It's great to see Edwin leveraging FriendFeed for customer support and engagement. Can you see how much harder this would be to do over Twitter? This is where the conversation makes the most sense. Smart move, Edwin.
- Louis Gray
definitely. the first feature to be developed next week will be to push feedly annotations down to friendfeed. The combination of conversation + search is a killer!
- Edwin Khodabakchian
Not only it is fun to use the first real cloud composite application, It also saves time and I do not miss any news as it is available everywhere.
- Örjan Lundberg
Good to hear about the plan to look at Friendfeed integration
- Jican
from fftogo
it's just me or feedly doesn't work with firefox 3.0?
- Alessandro
Alessandro - I think the trick is to uninstall then reinstall.
- Russellreno
Only 522 items in my Google Reader and umpteen in both Toluu and Feedly. I still can't make a final decision. I like both for different reasons. Toluu seems straight forward and to the point. While Feedly seems to provide that innate desire within me to bound all over the net. In any case, I am pretty sure that I might just migrate away from my Google Reader.
- Mathew A. Koeneker
I think the great thing about Feedly is that you don't have to choose between Google Reader and Feedly due to their synchronisation. You can take a holiday from Google Reader to see if Feedly works for you and if it doesn't then pick up where you left off in G-Reader...,
- Jican
from fftogo
It would be nice to see all the commentary on this and other items in one common pool available to all the applications - you can click on the link and see the direct comments on the blog; you can see (at least because they have done the integration in this case)- the friendfeed comments - what you cant see yet are the annotations in Feedly - all of these provide added value to the original article (well most of the time) - think this should be a priority for these social networking apps..
- Jican
Is really the final version identical to the RC3 and so the version we are downloading is just a set up for the firefox down(load) day
- Stéphane Guérin
Thanks Bwana, struggling with server down for minutes :)
- Dan H. Racek
I've only downloaded the Mac version, but the md5 matches on both FTP and the link I provided above. Mac OS X md5: 27ff7989db6a206cdfc8989aca9f9283
- Bwana ☠
I cant spot much differences between RC3 and the final version
- Palin Ningthoujam
There shouldn't be many differences. But so far so good on my system. Seems a little snappier and uses less RAM than earlier betas.
- Robert Scoble
is there somewhere (or some tool) to check compatibility with your addons? I don't want to have to go to each individual addons page and read the fine print.
- Tim Hoeck
Palin, the final release of FF3 is identical to RC3. No code changes whatsoever; it's the same package.
- Gregory Pittman
from twhirl
Linked to this from RWW - awesome! :)
- Sarah Perez
The welcome page says "Release Candidate 3" after I install from the Mac OS X dmg with an MD5 of 27ff7989db6a206cdfc8989aca9f9283. However, the about page says just "version 3.0".
- Fred Yankowski
from twhirl
The "about" page has said just "Version 3.0" for a while (or at least it does previous in RCs). I can haz actual release and not RC?
- Karim
Shawn, go to http://getfirebug.com. Under releases you can download beta 12. It works with 3. I'm not sure how stable it is, so, as with all betas, installer beware! They claim it to be stable.
- Joel Gray
...getting off topic here, but I've been using Firebug on FF3 for weeks and it's very stable.
- Daniel Shaw
thank you, I can finally download FF3
- Rajiv Doshi
yeah, i've been having a hard time getting the updated firebug for ff3. anyone have an alternative download link?
- Ivan Stegic
never mind, i just answered my own question. firebug for ff3 is available on the ftp servers too, in a different directory. go herE: ftp://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/addons/1843/
- Ivan Stegic
Wow, that link made it much todo about nothing.
- Russellreno
My Mac OS version also has MD5 27ff7989db6a206cdfc8989aca9f9283 - can someone confirm whether it's really final or RC3 (or provide an official confirmation that final == RC3)?
- Chester
For those wondering, the md5 of the Mac OS X download from getfirefox.com and the one I provided above match. Both are 27ff7989db6a206cdfc8989aca9f9283 Those are the official versions

Could be a more significant take up of the Iphone 3G in the Uk now its following a more typical new mobile phone offering with reduced price hardware prices on certain tariffs
- Jican
Feedly - trying out this new RSS orienated home page aggregator - most annoying thing at the moment is that some articles which it suggest you click on the title to read the full article doesnt display the full article or transport you to the site to read it that way. Works on some feeds though..
Update - if youre using Entire Content inlined view then for some feeds you will have to click once to get the post in its own window then click the title again to get it to launch the original feed
- Jican
@jican. Yes. this is annoying. Unfortunately it is not something we control. the content providers decide if their RSS feeds include the entire content or just a teaser. But there might be some light at the tunnel: if we find the right model for content providers to monetize their content in feedly (which we are trying to do by offering them a set of APIs), they might feel more confortable publishing full feeds going forward.
- Edwin Khodabakchian
The close integraton with Google Reader is great and the Wall is Cool with the annotation and comment feature - some very nice features and a great deal of thought has gone into making Feedly
- Jican
glad you did this MG and glad that FF held up so well - nobody else was faster getting updates out and having the comments added a while new dimension
- Frederic
Thank you, MG! I appreciate you doing this!
- Andy Tinkham
I dont think there is enough time in the day (unless i give up work - i should be so lucky) to keep up with all these aggregators - ive tried about 3 of those listed (Friendfeed of course
- Jican
