I haven't visited Twitter since the new Friendfeed UI came out.
i have.... if you look at my profile...u see lots of fail whales :o) - Rob Sellen :o)
Most of this time you couldn't even if you wanted to. This... is... FAIL WHALE! - Joe Kavanagh
like someone said.. that fail whale page should be monetised! - Rob Sellen :o)
Been more on twitter since the new friendfeed UI came out. - Daniel van Moll
daniel.. why??? - Rob Sellen :o)
where mark.. here or there? - Rob Sellen :o)
it's definitely pretty. now i just need to get all of my buddies to move over to yet *another* service. ugh! - redboy
show them how you expand on conversations from them other places here ;o) - Rob Sellen :o)
Welcome back, Leo :) - Mona Nomura
It's too bad more people (in my circle of friends) don't use friendfeed. Then again, they don't use Twitter either. Everyone is on Facebook tho :-/ - Doug Jones
Good for you, Leo. Be one of US! - Josh Haley
I DO agree with you there Leo Laporte.. me either.. and the new Seesmic Desktop client didn't help either.. friendfeed ftw - @LarsenTweet
I haven't visited Twitter since I figured out how to post via IRC. - Pete Brown
My Twitter activity has dropped as well. What's ironic is that I'm hearing about a lot of Twitter issues since the new FF beta... very strange - Bwana ☠
I'm with you all, the FF realtime feed has almost completely replaced for me. Wild - Jeff Carter
I'd bet the Twitter issues are being caused by all the FriendFeeder's dumping their content back into Twitter through the API. Just a guess though. - The Griff
mark... yeah add filters ;o) use them. :o) if not following bwana follow him... ;o) - Rob Sellen :o)
it all updates live time now anyway. :o) but yeah use filters ;o) - Rob Sellen :o)
I think in a lot of ways Twitter is *too* minimalist. I appreciate at least one level of comment threading that almost every other site supports. Also, sometimes I like to be wordy and don't want to post everything in 160 character chunks. - Doug Jones
@Rob: I get all interesting posts delivered to Tweetdeck anyway (because ppl crosspost) and always used FF for discussions and not "regular updates".. I'm pretty happy with Facebook, being for close friends, FriendFeed being for discussions and Twitter for everything else (like recently spending time with my friend, the whale) :) - Daniel van Moll
But Leo, you are a Social Media Butterfly. ;) - Robert Hafer
@Bwana: That's true! Since FF beta release on monday the "whale-rate" increased significant. Twitter recently disabled the "delete" function for tweets -- maybe to ease server load (see elections 2008, where they did this, too). - Daniel van Moll
Am learning how to use FF. Pretty good I think :) - mahjongmi
@Doug: Same here.. But I'm pretty fine with my "real life friends" being on Facebook and everyone else being on the twitters/friendfeed.. especially since the new Tweetdeck made monitoring Twitter and Facebook so easy. - Daniel van Moll
I wish I could "automatically" have all of my twitter friends' posts show up in ff. I've imported all of my twitter friends who are on ff, into ff, but for those twitter friends who are NOT on ff, is what I'm missing, and forcing me to still watch twitter a bit. Any good solutions to that? - Dan Nimtz
This is interesting? Will this be the new twitter? I would like some customization too. - Disney By The Numbers
what i am waiting for Dan.. that way I can stop using twitter full stop :o) - Rob Sellen :o)
Hmm maybe I should just invest a little more time into "learning friendfeed" (especially lists). In general it has everything Twitter got plus a better visualization of discussions.. do you all use the website or are there tools like Tweetdeck out yet? - Daniel van Moll
use the website dan ;o) how can we all not improve it via feedback if we dont use it ;o) these people ACT on feedback ;o) - Rob Sellen :o)
@Rob: Hmm sounds reasonable =) - Daniel van Moll
Figured out how to see non FF Twitter friends on my feed...may not work for protected updates tho. - The Griff
Griff.. care to share? i got a room with all my twitter replies going to it.. but really want a stream with ALL my twitter in it, so i just reply from here. - Rob Sellen :o)
Posted it to my feed. Basically just "Create a Feed", make it private if you want. Then add the twitter service pointing to your (unprotected) friends. Can do one feed per friend to make it clearer or one big feed if you want. Still checking whether it'll work for protected friends...thinking it might since you are already signed into Twitter from FF. - The Griff
The funny thing is that I read this while listening to the Gillmor Gang from last weekend which was all about Friendfeed. - Michael K Pate
Leo, do you think that will continue? - Ed
I'm visiting it a lot less, too. - Robert Scoble
Leo, are you automatically creating imaginary friends for people that are on Twitter but not on FriendFeed? Anyone know of something automated for that? - Jason Carter
Same here. Now if only FriendFeed had a native iPhone App. But Nambu is pretty good. - Adam Nieto
thats what I already do griff.. i dont get the whole twitter stream.. ;o( - Rob Sellen :o)
I did once... to follow someone who was only on twitter. But this place is home now. - Aaron
Trying out friendfeed for the first time... seems pretty cool - Danny Dunn
I think I might just make this my home too! - Kevin J Hatton
welcome to all you new users. :o) - Rob Sellen :o)
Really glad to have you over here Leo. It really is a superior medium. - Thomas Hawk
Liking the iPhone UI though a native app will be nice. Tweetie sets the bar for Twitter clients let's hope for something similar on the iPhone. But I would like a desktop app too. - Ken Knight
I'll visit Twitter just to see if people have replied to me in Twitter. - John E. Bredehoft
Honnestly, I don't understand. You've just "broadcasted" this message, Leo. Where's your contribution to this discussion? Live, real-time or not... where's the difference (to you)? - directeur
Griff: Not clear on what you're doing and/or getting out of the feed you made. Rob's question seems to still stand? What the goal is: Have all those that you follow on twitter to be feeding in (as FF friends or as invisible friends) to a single feed which would then represent everything that you would see via the twitter web page. Not necessarily real elegant, but less frustrating that fail whales ;) - guruvan (Rob Nelson)
I've looked at Twitter more since Beta came out than the previous 30 days. - Mr. The Jason Fleming
Twitter may be a good place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. - Louis Gray
I was forced there as the corporate firewall blocked out friendfeed :S - Sanne Buurma
++++ louis. ;o) - Rob Sellen :o)
Now that I've set up Friend Feed. I'm agreeing with Leo - A Gunny named Slickback from Alert Thingy
welcome to you new users... :o) - Rob Sellen :o)
judd... just use ths ;o) - Rob Sellen :o)
I can't completely cut the cord from the twitters. Way too many friends there that will NEVER use friendfeed. - Ronald S
I initially had one private feed setup for all of my non-FF Twitter friends. I've switched to having a private feed set per non-FF Twitter friend. Each time a friend posts on Twitter it comes into my FF stream. I can then reply and by checking the box send an @ reply back to Twitter. Hope that answers the question @guruvan. The problem with having the single feed is that people become unidentifiable. I'm sure an enhancement could be made to FF to fix that. Think the 1:1 is better though. - The Griff
that is really awesome!! FF is kicking ass! woo hoo! - Susan Beebe
The new FF Ui might very well be the perfect excuse to stop visiting twitter. - Pedro Fonseca
I have, but I started using FriendFeed more after the UI change - Cristian
I generally like the new UI but, I have to say, I'm getting burned out on the long comment threads here on FriendFeed. I just don't have time for it and I'm getting better information density on Twitter. Less is more for me. - Mike Doeff
Leo is in the bag :-D - Dobromir Hadzhiev
How about opening up a method in the API to create imaginary friends and let the community build some tools to automate porting friends from other services? - Brian Stoner
Then why is it all up and down FF, I see posts from you from Twitter, Leo? Am I missing something? - Steve Austin
So when I see the twitter icon next to one of his posts, that doesn't mean that it was first posted on twitter? I'm not trying to be accusatory or anything, just trying to learn... - Steve Austin
I second this motion. Tired of recreating friend groups. - Bryan Griffith
Is Twitter up? ;-) - zeroinfluencer
It seems as though most people on Twitter INSIST on posting the very same tweets here, too. So what's the point of reading Twitter again? - Stan Scott
That is the frustration most have. FF consolidates all feeds for all social sites in one location, so redundancy is inevitable. Now if FF incorporated a service like into the site, and build an app to support all mobile phones and appliances you would never have to go anywhere else! ;) - Aaron Friedman
My reaction is that FriendFeed does not really add value over Twitter and other silos. - Scott Royall
That's nothing yet! I haven't ate, drank or slept since the beta came out. I'm gonna sue these FF bastards, mark my words. ;) - Meryn Stol
Scott: really? You clearly have NOT looked very deeply. - Robert Scoble
Twitter never got me, or i never really "got" twitter. I'm much happier here on FF, not really because its real time, but because i find the content and conversations much more interesting. - Lasse Johnsen
Oh and i actually FIND the content and conversations here. - Lasse Johnsen
I have said it before and I'll say it again: How much can you really say in 140 characters anyway? - Meryn Stol
lol - Rachael Depp
a few words meryn... :o) - Rob Sellen :o)
Are you serious? The best part is the simplicity of threading on tweets, and watching quality content in your network rise to the top. - Kevin Elliott
I'm unimpresed. Think about it. You have to have an account on every service you want to aggregate. Each of those accounts has to be maintained. If you don't have those sources, you have a very dull FF account. - Scott Royall
Scott, you can participate on FF without using any external services. Just comment, and post messages (and links) yourself. It's very much like Twitter then. Only way better UI. A UI which is impossible to duplicate on the Twitter platform atm. - Meryn Stol
You want imaginary accounts that generates imaginary content? Thats totally Web 5.0! - Lasse Johnsen
Yeah? :-) Good for you :-). I was enjoying your episode on the xserve today. - Richard A.
What is the goal of Social Networking? To provide a way to interact with people who interest us, right? So why do we keep re-inventing it? Each time we do, we have to rebuild our commnities. - Scott Royall
Scott: because we keep figuring out new things to do with it. Yelp is a social network for restaurant reviews. is a social network for events. Friendfeed is needed because Twitter doesn't do enough. I'm sure there'll be others that will come along that will compete with friendfeed, too. - Robert Scoble
My take: Something like FF ends up accidentally doing the opposite of what it intends by creating yet another refuge for discerning users to flee to. - Scott Royall
Scott: ff is doing something other social networks have proven incapable of doing so far. First, it's live. Second, it has filtering that Twitter will never be able to match (Twitter doesn't have the metadata that friendfeed has). Third, friendfeed has a much better conversation surface than Twitter does (or facebook). Fourth, friendfeed's rooms (er, feeds) are a place where you can do private business much better than on any other network. Fifth, friendfeed's direct messaging features actually work. - Robert Scoble
Finally, I just saw my fifth fail whale of the day over on Twitter. Friendfeed hasn't failed for me EVER (it was down for an hour quite a few months ago but is 100 times more reliable than Twitter and faster than Facebook). - Robert Scoble
Paul: yup, there's a lot of things that Twitter does that friendfeed doesn't. It's why I stay on both too. - Robert Scoble
Paul, you can receive FF updates via IM, would that be a viable option? - FFing Enigma
Yes Robert, you duplicate effort, which was my point. - Scott Royall
Scott: there's a tax to pay and I paid it. Yes! :-) - Robert Scoble
hope you don't mind me using this thread in my blog post today : - Kevin Pruett
Robert, social networking is a major part of your life. I think most people just fit it in. - Scott Royall
Scott: there are more and more people who make this stuff a major part of their lives. You've gotta see the engagement stats for Facebook. Off the charts. My wife is addicted. - Robert Scoble
Kevin, go for it. - Scott Royall
@leo et al: I haven't visited FriendFeed since the new TweetDeck came out ;-) - Jason Goldberg
Jason: are you on ? Tweetdeck is a lot less interesting than it used to be. - Robert Scoble
I am glad you are accessible to us fans now :) You do amazing work. I am glad your not bound by tech tv any more and can do what ya like ^_^ - Stephen
Same here.. the instant FF released it's new UI. Twitter is acting like Cry baby with Fail Whales - Sardar Mohkim Khan
It's all Rob's fault that twitter is being ignored by me. Is it coincidence with the new ff ui? They say that things happen in perfect timing, when they're supposed to. - Myrna
It seems to me there are two sides to social media: personal and professional. Just when I figured Twitter would win the professional side Friendfeed beta comes out. I have to wonder if the beta will cause the services' roles to switch. Then again why would anyone but close friends care about my Netflix queue, etc? Perhaps that's what filtering will help but FF needs some templates. - The Griff
please pardon me, but new UI is terrible :P I pray God twitter will never change. - Franc, a rememberer
Alan Le
swissmiss | Ctrl - Alt - Del Pillows -
swissmiss | Ctrl - Alt - Del Pillows
EPIC - Josh Haley
now what happens if someone uses these in a pillow fight and all three clash together? - vijay
the 'task manager' shows up. - Alfredo 亜瑠布れっど
Vijay you get Access Denied. - petar vucetin
LMAO @ Alfredo !!! Oh man, that's the plot for a pr0n right there. :D - vijay
lol @vijay - Dee @
do not anger the task manager - mikepk
*throws ALT pillow at Dee* - vijay
But they're in the wrong order in the photo! ;-) - Joey Gibson
I wonder if I can use these pillows to reset my Xbox360 when it gets the Red Ring of Death. - Alan Le
if nothing else you could throw them at it? - Jason Shultz from twhirl
WANT!! - Susan Beebe
This would go great with my Enter key doormat. - Ronald S
Now, when someone tells you those worthless "accent" pillows just clutter the couch, you can point to the labels as an "excellent reminder". :) - Stan Scott
those are sweet - (jeff)isageek
FFing Enigma
Wish the stream would keep flowing when I go to another tab. I come back from 20 minutes away from the main page, and the thing starts spinning like the Price is Right wheel...
That's called something, I've seen php sites that only auto update when people visit it *searching* - Anthony Farrior
Interesting.. I wonder if that's FF's way to dropping idle "connections" - Bwana ☠
@Bwana - that very well could be, as it seems that their live feed is based off of MySQL and AJAX. - David Ford
Maybe there's a timeout. It keeps flowing when I go to another tab, but not sure for how long.. - Rodfather
I can see why they'd do it that way, don't get me wrong. However, doing the 'real time dump' of 200+ updates isn't an ideal solution. Perhaps a full page refresh if the updates have been queuing for more than X minutes? Actually, that would tie in nicely for the request for an auto-refresh in pause mode, now wouldn't it? - FFing Enigma
An auto update would be awesome, I have a script which does as much for FB for your Hompage - sofarsoShawn
Bret Taylor
Great job! - Robert Scoble
Nice job friendfeed! - Kevin Mohr
Awesome work! - Aaron Draczynski
realtime by default now eh? nice - Karl Rosaen
I hate it. I love it! I haven't even scrolled down to the bottom yet. Hold on.......ok, it's good. :-) - Jeff Eddings
Cheers Bret & team - it's feeling pretty good so far (which includes initial gut reaction) - Christopher Galtenberg
Nice job. I can at the very least say it is a big improvement aesthetically. I haven't finished checking everything out yet, but so far so good. - Rolf Schewe
why there is no Re-share function? - Tony
Reshare will be back. Just an artifact of beta-testing, didn't make it in for this morning - Bret Taylor
don't like the grey background - Moses
Any new comment can not move up this item? - Tony
Our settings vary to prevent things shuffling around excessively. We bubble up when someone you are subscribed to comments. - Bret Taylor
also wish i can add links/pics/embed in the "comments"...for example, i'd like to include an image of my email from, but it only shows up as a link - brainno722 (Peter)
thanks, it looks awesome! - Dani Martínez
Congratulations guys on a job well done! - Thomas Hawk
Love it, but needs a floating Pause button. - Barak B
+1 Barak - Kenton
Barak, very good idea - Kol Tregaskes
The filter is great! But any filter can not output to friends. - Tony
+1 Barak - Tony
what filter? - Iphigenie
adding a filter sucks, things like has comments from should ajax populate :( - Stuart Evans from twhirl
you can create filters when you click "filter" - Tony
The anticipation was high, but so was delivery! Great job FF team. - Micah
Awesome! - Iván Abrego
Like it! Facebook import (notes & link, not status) seems broken though... - Alex Lomas
A keyboard shortcut for Pause, maybe? - Micah
Thanks, Alex, we will look into it, - Bret Taylor
Can you open an existing conversation in a new window? - Barak B
1st look is good, like the real time...didn't make it to the bottom the first few minutes. Also the comment box drops down as I am commenting now...message got off screen ;) - Sanne Buurma
please add keyboard shortcut for play/pause feed - Ouriel Ohayon
Agree with Andy, dislike the fugly grey - Sally Church
Barak: click on the timestamp to open a conversation in a new window. - Kevin Mohr
Barack B : you can click the time and select open in new window. - Simon Wicks
refresh the page would move up the item which have newest comment? - Tony
sad grey: why don't you let everyone choose the colour of the background? - Davide Leonelli
Grey or not, rather think about what the beta has to offer in functionality - Sanne Buurma
Please, bring back service icons near each post — it's very hard to scan information flow without them. Also hope you'll do something with new subscription module — it's unuseful while managing a lot of imaginary friends. - Yury Vetrov
Nice. Good job guys. - Peter Kruit
The colouring needs looking at for sure. Unless, of course, you are going to redesign the logo? ;-) - Kol Tregaskes
dislike the grey, sorry - Manuela
Agree on colouring - but hey its a beta. Thanks Bret. - Roberto Bonini
perhaps highlighting your own comments in the flood of comments (easier to scan/find)? - brainno722 (Peter)
agree, gray background is bothersome. - AJ Kohn
Wait, is the frequent shifting up and down of items I'm reading (i.e. the items in view) really supposed to work out well? I suppose you guys tried it for a while and you just got used to it? - j1m
Peter, yep but thankfully the Cleaner FriendFeed GM script still works in Chrome and FFox, which does this for you. - Kol Tregaskes
Don't like: broke my Blocks list, Block not available from Hover Menu - Will Higgins™
Why Will Higgins have a superscript of "TM"? how typed in? - Tony
it keeps the bad low-contrast grey on white text for comments that deters me from reading it. You made the main text bigger, now make the comment text black. - Kevin Marks
Fantastic job guys ! - David Berrebi
can't see source of posts and comments - Moses
Will: block will be back, just missing today, but it is not something we are removing (just something we didn't get in for this morning) - Bret Taylor
I think you guys should really embrace the idea of hashtags. Let us add them to other people's posts, having various services auto-tag imported items, let us search on them using filters. Tagging is one great way for us to get a handle on the volume of information here. - Kevin Kuphal
What's with the orange and the green on the side? Its a bit ugly if you ask me. Also, is there a way to change this, as well as make the beta permanent? (I like living on the cutting edge). - darnell
I too like the orange and green. It's the blue I'm not sure about. :-) - Daniel Dulitz
I like the FF blue - nouhad
Yeah, but it clashes with the logo. Either Friendfeed needs to change their logo, or get rid of the colors. Or (even better) allow users to change the colors. :-) - darnell
Looks horrible to me, I think we should have a customizable interface more like iGoogle, I like the idea though, just more customization, like sidebar customization, friend lists, realtime widget, chat widget, all movable and arrangeable, there sure is enough space etc... - Kyle Weller
I'm with Kyle and Darnell - I like being able to customize my GMail colours, and having that feature on FF would be cool - nouhad
Ignoring 71 previous comments... I really like the new design! One request: allow the pause button to follow my cursor as a scroll down the page! - Chris Messina
+1 Chris Messina. That would be an awesome feature. - Beau Liening
Add a floating "COMMENT" feature at the bottom of each thread, so I don't have to scroll up to click "comment"... this is a weird experience in new beta UI - Susan Beebe
@Ari: This is why I really think tagging is what they need to focus on. If we could each add #ffbeta or something to our own posts as well as others, you get the trending and other features that twitter already has. Combine this with filters and you really get some killer information management features. - Kevin Kuphal
I really like having one UI instead of different modes (normal, realtime, miniwindow), but to support the old "mini window" experience, perhaps allow the right hand side bar with filters and subscriptions to be collapsible? - Karl Rosaen
@Karl: API is key here. Twitter isn't massively popular because their website rocks. Twitter is massively popular because there's a massive layer of applications built on top of it. Build that for FF and you have the same potential growth - Kevin Kuphal
I wish it could use more of the screen real estate of my monitor, given my normal window size, it has large amounts of unused space on either size of the content due to the fixed layout. Maybe a multi-column mode? - Ray Cromwell
Nice job! but, where are my rooms?? - Krishnamoorthy
@Krishnamoorthy rooms I believe have changed to feeds[room_name] - Lou Paglia
Is there a way to change my prefs over to to the beta so I don't have to keep entering beta.friendfeed...? - Ryan Stanley
UI suggestion: there's a link to expand all comments, there should be one to collapse them as wel. - Ryan Stanley
UI suggestion: after expanding comments you scroll all the way to the bottom reading the thread, then you have scroll all the way back up to click the Comment link. Why not have it at the bottom of the thread too. - Ryan Stanley
Feature suggestion: FF needs a built-in way of referring to people publicly, just like Twitter's @. Perhaps use the same convention. But there needs to be a way people to address each other in public threads, so a user can make sure to be informed when people are talking or referring to them. - Ryan Stanley
going to read through faq - roadmap of what made beta & what's going away would be nice - big concern for me is the lose of ability to expand lists to see individual participants - i find that one of ff's strongest features - that and block but i see from earlier in this thread that its will make it in later in beta (whew)... - mike "glemak" dunn
Um, Twitter much? - Christiana
A Pause button that follows you on page scroll could be more distracting than it's worth. But how about something like it appears upon a white space mousedown/mouseup event. - Micah
You guys should use this userstyle: - Kyle Weller
Curious about how the new design will affect the iPhone version of the site...? - Chris Messina
welcome qwerty. :o) - Rob Sellen :o)
Hmm, I tried to read this thread, but I never got to the bottom, because the unexpected shifts of the text just became too much after a while. Fundamentally, if the page keeps shifting up and down unexpectedly, it's hard to see how anyone's ever going to read it -- hence the many requests for a floating pause button, which would help. You could also imagine pause on hover. Being able to read down the page without having the text disappear seems to me like the #1 use case of ff. - j1m
I like it. - Willem (@wim66) ☠
Of course, it's not really like you want Pause -- the real-time updates are great when they're below wherever the eyes are :-) - j1m
Bret - Great job! There are certainly things to clean up before this interface goes to the main page. Rooms should REALLY be on the subscribed list on the right hand column. I would LOVE to be able to put Blank Lines in comments. I don't care if they count for a whole lines worth of characters (as opposed to a more common one character for the cr/lf) Blank lines make comments more legible and clear than just a runtogether paragraph. - guruvan (Rob Nelson)
I don't like how the interface STILL loses my place if I subscribe to someone while posting a comment (or even reading it!) I should be able to subscribe to YOU while I read YOU and not lose my page place. The Page should need to be refreshed to reset everyone because of the new subscription. - guruvan (Rob Nelson)
I don't know about the queued items, I like the real time feed, having selectable speeds instead of "over-caffination required mode" would be good. Most discussions this is irrelevant, but the discussion on tis new beta this morning (i.e. on scoble's feed) showed how insane that can be. - guruvan (Rob Nelson)
The real-time-only feed in the beta is causing Safari 4b on my MacBook use up a lot of CPU cycles, hence depleting the battery faster. I'm sure FF3 will too. Please consider an "ECO Mode" similar to the current standard mode, which only refreshes once every few minutes, for those running their machines on battery power. Without such an eco-mode, and with the rapid-fire pace of live updates, I fear that I won't be using FFeed much at all. Certainly not leaving that tab open for hours on end like I used to. - Siddharth Deb
I don't know if I've done something, or you guys did, but when I look here, I only have a few services setup in the account, when I go to the old interface I have a LOT more -I'm not certain that everything is feeding through? (i.e. I have Digg and Disqus set up, I see the correct list of icons on the old interface, but on the beta "settings" popup, No Dice. Even if this is irrelevant to the actual data flow, please fix this to make me sleep well at night. ;) - guruvan (Rob Nelson)
One more thing - Could we have a character counter in the comments? It would be REALLY nice, if my account is setup to post this comment to my twitter account, and it's going to post the link to this discussion, please Add the number of characters in the link (plus a space) to the total character count. That way I won't be truncating the comment and/or the URL when it gets to twitter. - guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Another thing: I used to be able to click the "More" next to a single discussion, and "Link to this discussion" Where is that? If this is an outmoded way of thinking please let me know. Otherwise, um...can we have that feature back? - guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Rob: the timestamp ("9 hours ago") is the permalink - Benjamin Golub
Benjamin: You rock! Thanks! - guruvan (Rob Nelson)
do you need a techno dunce to help the average joe make sense of this?? haha...i love it... - Lauren Shanahan
Very twitter like. But better due to nice conversational. - xia
I actually kinda like the grey... though it does look like it's an opportunity to let companies brand the background in some way. - Frankie Warren
For cc to Twitter functionality, can the number of characters be a count-down instead of a count-up? - Winston Teo
I'd like to second the notion that there should be a way to address an individual within a thread...the agreed upon "Rob:" works great, but maybe could be clickable so that there's no confusion as to which Rob or which Scoble you're talking to ;) (i.e. maybe a CTRL-Click or something on the person's name after their comment to start a new comment with their name at the beginning? ) - guruvan (Rob Nelson)
The grey background looks kinda dullish, and it looks like someone ran out of ideas for colours.. - Winston Teo
IMO avatars occupy way too much real estate now, I liked the smaller ones better. - кот
thsi is nothing on the new design, but after being on here all night with no attention to a down twitter, I am reminded of this: It would be nice if I could set the post to twitter for comments and likes a) permanent b) off or C) on a per comment/like basis -twitter users say this "yeah, when ppl I follow flood me with FF spam ... I usually unfollow ... even block if it irritates me enough." And I would like to be able to be easily selective of what gets put through, and it would get more GOOD attn for FF - guruvan (Rob Nelson)
please, for the love of god, move the "comment" link to the BOTTOM of the list of comments. seriously, am I the only one who can't believe this hasn't been fixed for so long? - Dossy Shiobara
I like it - Cristian
Great stuff! :-) FriendFeed does it better than Facebook. Please go real-time all the way for subscription requests and confirmatoions too. - Nenad Nikolic from twhirl

Love the new friendfeed! - Chris Martin from Nambu
It's not bad, but I prefer the smoothness of the old one to the lines and edges in this new one. - scott willeke
I love the new letter-counting post widget in the beta though. - scott willeke
at first glance, find it much more readable than the old one. Pity there still isn't "my items that were liked or commented by others" - Stephanie Booth from twhirl

still waiting for direct-to-room links on the right column, is it planned? (with lastupdated timestamps if possible) - Kemal
Nice. - Thomas Chai
Cleared out my schedule this week to really get writing done. First Draft mantra: "No judgement; just vomit it out and fix it later".
Yep, that's def the way to do it. And I, for one, welcome our new Season 3 overlords. When it's written. And filmed. And published....okay, I'm glad you're getting down to the writing :) - WoH: Professor MOTHRA

Phoenix police raid home of blogger whose writing is highly critical of them
In what should send a frightening chill down the spine of every blogger, writer, journalist and First Amendment advocate in the United States, Phoenix police raided the home of a blogger who has been highly critical of the department. Jeff Pataky, who runs Bad Phoenix Cops, said the officers confiscated three computers, routers, modems, hard drives, memory cards and everything necessary to continue blogging. - Rahsheen from Bookmarklet
Yeah, that's not a lawsuit waiting to happen. - Scoble, Alex Scoble
Probable cause was ????? - Amani
I don't rely on the government to provide for me, Mark. I do rely on them to protect the populace as they are the only group outfitted to do so. There's no one else that can regulate the corporate world. The corporate world has shown time and time again that it can't and won't regulate itself. - Scoble, Alex Scoble
There are people in power who overreach and why we need less government and not more. - Fake Sarah Palin
"The Phoenix police does too much raids on too light grounds.." "-Omg! Let's raid that sucker!" - Jemm
If we do not have a government governing, then we have the rich and powerful individuals ruling the masses. I, for one, do not wish to return to feudalism, unless I get to be one of the plutocrats. I will be good to my serfs, really! - MiniMage
There are many more examples of the government governing than there are of the government abusing its power. We just don't talk about the positive examples. They aren't newsworthy as they are the norm. - Scoble, Alex Scoble
Can Customs and the TSA come after me? - MiniMage
MimiMage, if you live within 100 miles of the US border, you are subject to the whims of the Customs and Border Patrol... and your Constitutional protections are abridged. - Tinfoil 2.0
Mark, I'm not sure if police is the best issue to argue the libertarian approach. There are some functions that need to be performed by an impartial government, with full checks and balances, to avoid tragedies of the commons and various abuses. The fact that the checks and balances have become askew is the problem to be solved here. - Tinfoil 2.0
That is bullshit!!!!! - Mathew™ aka Youngblood
