Ummm...This is free speech....In today's online world, this is NOT yelling fire in a crowded theatre. Whoever sold because they believed this, they're idiots IMO. - Sean McGee
Thank you, Sean. People were circulating it and I told them all to quit. Alleyinsider's headline: "Apple's Steve Jobs Rushed To ER After Heart Attack, Says CNN Citizen Journalist" ftl!! http://friendfeed.com/search?q... The site IS owned by CNN but not CNN. (LOL @ Alleyinsider removing that headline from the Top Stories haha) - Mona N.
if this is the case then they should start issuing arrest warrants for people like Bill O'Reilly and any other MSM journalists who has been fact checked and found to have lied .. - Steven Hodson
The ethics surrounding "citizen journalism" and traditional journalists is like night and day. I've been saying for a while that iReport was asking for trouble with photojournalism, but if you read their terms of use CNN absolves themselves of any responsibility. CNN likely does very little to check the accuracy of what is submitted and this is an example of the impact of that. - Jim Goldstein

WASHINGTON, DC – After the stress of finalizing the bailout plan for the nation’s distressed financial institutions, the U.S. Senate took a break and awarded John McCain an honorary Miss Congeniality Award. - Jim Goldstein
“He kept mentioning that he hadn’t won Miss Congeniality again in his speeches. When he repeated it during the debate last week, I took the hint and whipped up a proposal,” said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D – Nev.) Senate Bill S.4102 passed 51-36-13 in favor of bestowing McCain, a 22-year veteran of the Senate, with the accolade. McCain has refused to remove the tiara since the ceremony, even though he has set back out on the campaign trail. - Jim Goldstein

Vile. When will this so-called "culture of life" value the life and basic human dignity of the woman who may not consider herself a baby-making vessel? - Ayşe E.
the best part is: she is ok with the death penalty (as so many so-called 'pro-life' people are). Make sure the baby is born, then provide minimal support for the raising of the child, and when he messes up badly enough, kill him. - Bren
so... she won't put you in jail if you... get an abortion? Because there are repurcussions to making abortions illegal, which she seems to forget. She's too young to remember life before Roe vs. Wade but a lot of American women aren't. - anna

Mladen..HAHAHAHAHA - Anna Haro
Christ. I'm guessing her 'culture of life' doesn't extend as far as, say, public healthcare? - Alexander Carlill
Alexander: oh hell no. why would we want that? - Bren
If I'm ever raped I'm NOT carrying my rapist's baby. I guess Sarah Palin would rather see the woman try to kill herself, because that's the only way should would abort the baby. - Molly, the Muse
She's not reading the newspapers, but she knows a lot about this stuff! - Larry Hudson
What a fucking piece of work she is!! How could you possibly expect a woman to carry and deliver a baby that is the product of RAPE or INCEST!!?? - Jeff P. Henderson
Personally, if someone is "pro-life", then they should be against abortion even in the case of incest and rape. I respect her opinion more than someone who allows for politically expedient provisos. Also, if a woman is impregnated in the course of rape, then the baby is not her "rapist's baby". It is, biologically, "her" baby as well. I'm not a woman and would not presume to take a stance that I do not have a complete stake in, but...honestly: I respect Palin for taking the "pro-life" in genuine fashion. - Chester
@Molly, She is pro capital punishment AND pro life, go figure!?!? I guess it would be OK to kill the rapest, but not OK to abort your rape baby.... - Jeff P. Henderson

Ron Paul: Corporatism - not free markets
Play
September 29 at 2:39 pm - Link
"This has nothing to do with free market capitalism. This has to do with a managed economy, an inflationary system, corporatism, a special interest system. It has nothing to do with a failure of free markets and capitalism." - Mona N.
This is going to cause upward pressure on the price of bacon :-( - <wink>reechard</wink>
Go Ron! He's been talking about this for years. The market will correct this. Government should just be there with money to help protect the people that are going to get hurt. - d[▪_▪]b ♫
I find it interesting when people like to isolate systems and stand them up independently. Saying that free markets, when left "alone", do not influence, modify, meddle with government is an idealistic fantasy. Even though I'm a "free market guy" I'm leery of anyone who ideologically espouses "pure free markets" or "unfettered free markets" because they lose sight of the fact that they do not exist in a vacuum. Markets and Govt's are fundamentally connected and influence each other in myriad ways. - Michael Kowalchik
I really wish this was my party's candidate. - Brian Norwood
free markets are transparent. the current interbanking shadow financial system is NOT transparent - ray
ray, we deal with the messy reality of markets. Perfect free markets assume perfect transparency AND perfect information on the part of all participants. Neither reflects reality. It's analogous to the old Churchill quote, it's a terrible system, except when compared to all the others. - Michael Kowalchik
ron paul - a real libertarian calling out the majority & minority - while mccain plays blame game ... where is obama? biden? time for presidentiality to meet truthiness (credit to colbert) - Scott Moskowitz
thks for the aide memoir :) add immoral and irrational to messy too. my real point was - it is an ideal (this may sound strange) but ideals are essential for design and serve as a tool for razor sharp strategy. my experience is limited to cds markets, but if this particular market had a clearing house (which is difficult practically - but not impossible - an ideal) - a lot of the problems regarding this particular market may not have not have happened - ray
Market fundamentalists are as vicious as religious fundamentalists. That said, the market needs to resolve this issues. The government will just make things worse by stepping in with a massive bailout. - d[▪_▪]b ♫
+1 Michael - Alexander Carlill
Ron Paul is one of the few who sees the big picture and follows the money all the way back to the root cause. Unfortunately not enough people listened to him when he predicted all this years ago, but maybe more will now. - Alan Cheslow
Shame he's generally completely insane, isn't it? - Alexander Carlill
Ron Paul is hardly insane. Libertarian views, in my opinion, just won't work. It's an ideal but will fail practically. The only chance people will listen to Paul about this is if we don't get a bailout. If the bailout eventually happens, we're simply propping up failures effectively saying let's keep practicing the same crappy economics that got us into this situation in the first place. We need to tackle the hard problems and top just putting on more band aids. - d[▪_▪]b ♫
little more than messy imho. when the next step in the panic could be a be the mother of all bank runs - as it may now happen - a total meltdown of the US financial system could occur. - ray
sure, ray, which is why they are trying to do this in 700 billion dollar chunks, instead of the whole 60 trillion at once - Gregory Lent
The decline of our economy, the restrictions on our freedoms, and the increase of dictatorial centralized government policies are proving that the principles which Libertarianism opposes have failed. Why would you say that Libertarian views don't work when they have exactly predicted the state we're in today? - Alan Cheslow
@Alan, there's never been a truly free market anywhere in the world to validate the libertarian claims either. But in principle at least, we should strive to minimize government except where needed to protect individuals and to protect the commons. - £ogical €xtremes
perfect capitalism = no profits (best price, service, selection not profitable) / libertarianism depends on how you define the network of one - you - legally & in terms of the law how/when it conflicts with the commons - again, political capital is the most *expensive* kind - pick your definition of "expensive" vis-a-vis individuals &/or society - age old & unanswerable - perhaps - Scott Moskowitz
neither old skool or hip-hop - John Cozen
I'm a Dem, but its a shame someone this intelligent didn't make it through the Republican primaries. Talk about "straight talk" - Jim Goldstein
I hear nothing here that Obama has not said, although he may not totally agree with Paul's solution re the bail-out. I've also heard that Paul is opposed to freedom of choice for women and against gay marriage, and other social positions I would not be able to support. I wonder where he stands on healthcare, education, the environment, and other areas that are really crucial to the majority of people. We need MORE than a one-note candidate—someone whose only focus is on the economy, the internet, or war. - Cathryn Hrudicka

House of Representatives' Web site overwhelmed
September 30 at 2:22 pm - via Bookmarklet - Link
"The servers hosting the Web sites of the House of Representatives and its members have been overwhelmed with millions of e-mails in the past few days, forcing administrators to implement the "digital version of a traffic cop" to handle the overload - for the first time ever." - Nir Ben Yona
Tried yesterday to hit the web site and it was down. Fenagled the email from the state web site. - Eric @ CS Techcast
Eric, you can share it with the FriendFeeders :) - Nir Ben Yona
I'm proud that people are taking the time to write their representatives. "The House of Representatives is currently experiencing an extraordinarily high amount of email traffic. The Write Your Representative function is therefore intermittently available. While we realize communicating to your Members of Congress is critical, we suggest attempting to do so at a later time, when demand is not so high. System engineers are working to resolve this issue and we appreciate your patience." - Jeff Beckham
FYI, the reason the web form is the preferred (and sometimes only) way to contact via email is because it generates output that dovetails with the most popular software for constituent communication management, making life for staff (slightly) easier. - Andrew Feinberg
