Giving up on the idea of being a programmer, I've realized I'm just sick of code. :/
Of course, this means I have no clue what I actually want to do. :/ - Jimminy, CoG of FF
first, go outside and get some air. maybe walk away from programming for a few months. The you will know if you want to be a programmer. I still want to be a programmer, its just a matter of how much and whether I want to do it as a career or not. Give it time, and think about it. But first, go outside get some fresh air and sunlight. - echostreamer
Echo, I'm not saying I'm not going to code personal projects, I just don't want to do it for a living. I have a wide array of interests and areas I have less skill but more passion for. - Jimminy, CoG of FF
well knowing what you don't want to do gets you that much closer. - MikeAmundsen
Hi Jimminy. And what about design? - Véronique Rabuteau
Or systems analysis? Once I realised I didn't really enjoy coding but *loved* the systems bit it was very freeing. - WoH: Minding her Botts
Veronique, that's one alley I'm looking down, I've done Architectural & Mechanical Design while in high school, and I've done freelance web design for a few friends just to keep my skills in the area okay, but that's been a while. - Jimminy, CoG of FF
WoH, I like systems, but I don't really know what a systems analyst does. Would you care to inform me on the subject? - Jimminy, CoG of FF
Here's one definition: http://www.careerplanner.com/Job-Des... and it can mean different things depending on where you work. But for me there is a real thrill in connecting people with computer systems in a way that really works. So looking at the way a process works from beginning to end. For example, how an order is processed from the moment the customer make the order to the delivery of the product or service and the order is archived. All the steps in between and how that matches up with the finance system and the way that connects to the working practices in the call centre and data management and where that fits into the company as a whole in terms of goals....connecting and improving things and helping people to use technology so it actually enhances their working lives is something I really love (if I was talking to you I would be waving my arms around, showing you how everything joins up.... :)) - WoH: Minding her Botts
Thanks WoH, that still doesn't sound all that fun to me, but it still seems like a good thought. - Jimminy, CoG of FF
Not...fun...?!? But....but...how can you think that's not fun?? *confused* :) - WoH: Minding her Botts
It's also helping design system and telling programmers what to do - that is lots of fun, too :) - WoH: Minding her Botts
I don't like telling people what to do, that's why it didn't sound like fun. - Jimminy, CoG of FF
Hope you will find an alley with maximum passion and interest. Choosing one is not necesseraly abandon others. - Véronique Rabuteau
I think you will be a programmer eventually. - Ashish
