Well, it's valid as long as people understand that it's going to happen. Maybe what he's after is simply ephemeral involvement in interesting conversation with people he knows, but not a permanent record. I can understand that motivation, but really not sure why he does that.
- Tinfoil 2.0
I don't think there's anything wrong with deleting an account at all. It might be annoying to followers, sure, but there's nothing wrong with it and there's dozens of very, very good reasons to do it.
- Soup in a TARDIS
A bunch of his posts and comments from the past few days are still around. Are you suggesting he did it again, Alex, or are you just talking about the last time?
- Ken Sheppardson
I guess he just went private then. Sorry, it looked to me like he had deleted last night.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
No questions remain unanswered on FriendFeed.
- Jim Connolly
If you go private, what happens to the people who are already subscribed to you?
- Marty
They still see your stuff...you have to manually remove them from your subscriptions for them to no longer see your posts.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
Well, that would be a pretty significant eff-you without the delete.
- Marty
He did a delete and recreate. It's not the first time, either. He claims it is his SOP. OK, bye!
- Josh Haley
I don't think so, Josh, as some of his comments still exist, but I could be wrong. Maybe friendfeed changed how a delete is managed now, particularly if you recreate so soon after deleting.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
So out of curiousity, if someone does a delete and recreate, are doing that for ALL the sites they use and pull into FF?
- Curtis (a) Jackson
Yeah, I don't know, Alan, having never deleted my account before.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
Either way, it doesn't matter how great some if his posts and comments are because he has obliterated any ounce of trust or desire to interact now that this is how he rolls. If more people see what he's doing, perhaps less people will feed his habit. He loves the attention and messing with people. He is basically a very intelligent troll. Not very smart, though. [edit: apology made and I have moved on]
- Josh Haley
Jims... go to their profile.. and unsub from there..
- Rob Sellen :o)
In this, Jim, you would click on subscriptions, not subscribers...subscriptions are who you are following...subscribers are who are following you.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
Whoopsie. Yeah, got the wires crossed on that one. What Alex said.
- Curtis (a) Jackson
I've done as suggested, I get a list of everyone I am subscribed to - but can't see 'manage subscribers' anywhere?
- JimsMarketingBlog
Yeah, Jim, looks like there is no way to mass unsubscribe from a bunch of people at once...
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
I know it was possible before the big FF update - just wondered if it was still possible.
- JimsMarketingBlog
Pea, that's a piss poor reason to trash all of the content that you've added here that includes a lot of people's comments and likes. You are free to do so, but it's a seriously effed up thing to do.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
Alex: Maybe, but it does raise an interesting question about who "owns" what on social networks. Do you own the threads you start? Or are you making an argument that once they're started they should belong to everybody?
- Kevin (aka ThreadKilla)
Kevin: The answer to "who owns what on social networks" is easy - Google!! :)
- JimsMarketingBlog
I'm not sure you've used the word "friends" correctly in your original post.
- Jim #TeamMonique
It's not called Pea'sfeed or Alex'sfeed or Louis'feed...it's called friendfeed.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
I don't really care if you disagree with me on this...I only care if you actually use it.

Rene: Not everyone is in your enviable position. I'm a university professor so necessity dictates I use pseudonyms and/or locks on feeds for privacy and professional reasons. I unfortunately DIDN'T do this when I started using FriendFeed and though I've since changed privacy settings I still get loads of non-professional results (mostly from friendfeed, sadly) when I google my name...

Yeah, Russ...for people who decide they want to give a big eff u to their friends.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
None of my friends in 'real life' know how to use FF or are too busy playing WOW so if I deleted my account I would be going 'above ground'.
- suzanne
Yeah, so he didn't actually delete his account, but the way that friendfeed handles searches to where you can only search for a specific account's comments/likes/posts if you are subscribed can make it seem like it all went poof. Either way, he's blocked for his behavior.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
I will keep this one in mind for when I am in "one of those moods" :-)
- John D Reasor
@Rene, In an ideal world it wouldn't matter. And maybe it doesn't to some (there's one professor in my department who also has a public profile) but its not something everyone is comfortable with. But I have personal reasons in additional to professional reasons to keep things private. I don't really want my students to have that level of possible intimacy with me. It makes failing them more difficult. ;)

Sorry Chris. More of the same. Why would one guy care so much if another guy splits the party? Usually guys do that in order to spend some intimate time alone with a woman... Wrong? Not so among geek men? (Or should I say greek men?)

Looks like you have a fescue, which means it's actually best kept at about 3 inches and not mowed as frequently as other types. Less mowing = win.
- FFing Enigma
yeah i keep mine at 4". do we have a lawn and garden room?
- Carlos Ayala
Is that the entire yard? Looks like just the right size to maximize the enjoyment of cutting the grass without it being a chore. At my last house, we had a yard with grass, but it was too small to maneuver the lawnmower around well, and it was more of a chore than enjoyment.
- Andy Bakun
That's the entire front yard just about, Andy. Back yard is about the same size.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
I have no grass. Area around house is all groundcover stuff, some ornamental grass and mulch. I miss walking with bare feet over freshly cut lawn but not enough to plant some. I had to do all inside and outside work at old house and I hated mowing.
- Janet:#TeamMonique
dude....cmon......3 weeks between mowing? my dad used to make me mow the lawn every 2 hours.....
- Chris Greene
sorry, two weeks. you're still a lazy f%# because i happen to know that this weekend you were inside the house playing video games like a dink.

So far today, I've sifted through over 300 shares on StumbleUpon with only 10-15 being worth looking at. There's been such a huge volume of irrelevant, inane and pointless digital detritus flung at me that the only way to manage it properly is to simply remove a whole load of people as friends. A maddening waste of time.
Sorry, someone had to say it. Your products are predictable. Your insights are recycled. You don't bring surprise with you when you enter a room. That's why people are ignoring you. Which used to be fine, because you could just buy attention for your brand or your company or your sales efforts. But that half-price sale on attention is now over. The only path left is to lean out of the edge and become interesting, noteworthy and yes, remarkable.

I saw a talk of his on TED and the guy stole from me 17 minutes of my life I'll never get back. I was so appalled by his vacuous and obvious presentation, I wrote a damning review of his talk on StumbleUpon. Of the few things I've read of his, I'm simply not impressed.
