OK I am just a little excited tonight and I should be sleeping but boy is this accurate: "The Jets have pulled off their greatest quarterback coup since luring Joe Namath to the AFL when he left Alabama in 1965." - Steve Rubel via Bookmarklet

Speaking as a lifelong Bears fan, New York can have him. - Steven Perez
“If they're going to make another Batman movie with the Joker...I nominate Johnny Depp to take over the role..can't think of who else could pull it off. What do you guys think??”
I don't know, man. Heath's Joker is pretty unbeatable. And knowing Johnny, he'd probably turn it down thinking that he wouldn't be able to come close to his performance. It was epic and legendary, and I doubt that they'll do another Joker anytime remotely soon. But it's nothing against Johnny, of course. He's phenomenal as well. - ::Kristen::
As much as I admire Johnny's work, I just don't see him in a movie such as the Dark Knight. A lighter Batman more suitable for kids, maybe. Jim Carrey comes to mind as well (comedian you might think at first, but he actually plays a mean psycho), but now I see him as this great funny father figure to an autistic child and it kind of ruins the dark element. That's a tough one... The part was pretty much made for Heath. - mortisha
Plus Jim Carrey was already in a Batman film as a different character, so he's out by default. - ::Kristen::
lol! totally forgot about the Riddler. Even so, totally different overall mood of the movie from a totally different director. - mortisha
I think that Jude Law would be able to pull it off. Not as amazingly as Heath, but even so, he's a damn good actor when given the right script. - ::Kristen::
you know what's funny...I thought I had some brilliant original idea when I came up with Depp doing it on the way home from the theater last night. So after posting it here, I googled the question...aaaand evidently people have been saying that for months now! Always a day late.... :) - Amber Horner
Depp would be great.I would say Gary Oldman as a second choice, but, again, he's already the comissioner. He makes an excellent crazy bad guy (The Professional, The Fifth Element). - Josh Haley
He played a great crazy Azkaban escapee in Harry Potter too. - ::Kristen::
Yes Depp, but please, someone make him put some weight on again first? - Vicky Pearce
I think it would be a bad move -- for the next movie. Give us a new baddie first. Here's a suggestion: a Catwoman who is both sexy and actually evil. - Chris Baskind
I'd go for Depp - think he's a little off his rocker - which is good! - Jim Turner via twhirl
I nominate Abe Vigoda...or Daniel Day Lewis - I always envision those two being able to pull off the same roles - Marco
+Marco for Daniel Day Lewis nomination--good call. - Anna Haro
No. No. No. Absolutely no on Depp. I have no idea where I would cast Day-Lewis, although would love to see him work with Bale. They're too similar to be hero/villain I think. - Andrew Feinberg
Marco, I've got my very selfish reasons. Bale + Lewis = need cold shower! :p - Anna Haro
I haven't even seen the movie, but I have heard about the awesome performance from Heath and I dont' think it would be well-received if they did another one with the joker. That being said: Depp is an awesome actor, they already did catwoman (2x), they did penguin, they did Mr. freeze, riddler, and Ivy...pick someone new - Rahsheen(isSoAwesome)
I think they can reuse characters from the Shoemaker trainwreck...revisiting Burton/Nicholson's Joker took some stones. I need to see that movie, I hear Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., is in it. - Andrew Feinberg
"Twitter has become so popular, so fast, that keeping up with its fast-growing user base is a real issue. So many people now use Twitter to update friends that the system often crashes." and crashes, and crashes and crashes...!!! - Barbara K. Baker via Bookmarklet

I know exactaly how much. I downloaded the MeeTimer plugin for FF. - Sonciary Honnoll
i moved almost completely off of twitter. i still set off a tweet here and there when the subject is not FF worthy; like "I'm drinking my protein shake by the pool". All in all its alot more interesting on FF. - Carlos Ayala
I tried Twitter and didn't like it. Since starting FF, I hate to admit it, I actually like FF. It is sort of like a group instant messaging utility. - Herschel
Since I used RescueTime for a week, I have reduced all my soc net time down drastically. - Sally Church
I don't waste my time on twitter anymore. I spend all my time on FF; that's where the conversations are. - John Budnik
Well, most of the people I follow on twitter are here, so I turned off device updates on twitter. And as for the rest, twitter has not been sending me IM's for a few weeks now. So outside a short twit now and then, or my script posting what I'm listing... I'm not wasting much time on twitter. - Grant Bierman
None at all. Just FF. Anyone worth talking tech with on the internet is here on FF. We could use a bigger crowd, but for now this is where it's at. - Tad - just Tad
Wasting time? What? Twitter and FF don't qualify as "research"... - Anthony K Valley
not enough, although most of my time is wasted on Friendfeed these days - Bjorn Tipling
better question should be how much time are you wasting on the internet - Dan Rockwell via twhirl
I don't consider any of it wasted. I get a lot of great links and information from Twitter/FF posts, and I've seen/participated in a lot of interesting discussions as a result of those links. That's never a waste. - Evangeline
Well, I used to waste a lot of time. But since I got Twhirl, no time gets wasted. It is a marvelous tool. - Rodrigo Leme via twhirl
I think an interesting related question is, "what are you accomplishing on Twitter? " - Brian Wilson
I use little twitter, more FF and fftogo lately. I'm not a techie so I hope to not bore folks as I try to broaden my geekish horizons :) - kbourke
I use Twitter for communcating with some clients, and also now use Twhirl. - Ian May via twhirl
"gmail expects the same respect as outlook" - tell that to the Corporate IT .. and see what the response is !! - Peter Dawson
I wrote about RescueTime when they first launched, but I never dared to try it myself for what it might find :-) To answer the headline question: hardly any at all now. - Duncan Riley
I mostly use Twitter in bits of time between more meaningful tasks. Standing in line, waiting, switching between tasks, etc. - Jack Collins
I have a blackberry and I live in Canada. There is no easy way now to read/follow twitter since the IM feature is gone; I used to read twitter via google talk. I find that twitterberry and m.twitter don't allow me to read more than a page or the past hour and using SMS is painful. Every 250 messages I need to delete my mobile number online and re-add it or I would have to wait a week for new messages. I read it when I'm on the go or need a break from my writing. - Phillip Jeffrey
I waste more time on friendfeed a lot more than twitter because of how much more content is available - Justin
I use time very wisely on Twitter - no more than 30 mins/day actively. Scans messages while it runs in background on Twhirl. - Jim Turner via twhirl
i rarely use twitter, but i wouldn't say that it's because of ff. necessarily. it's just become unreliable as well as "spammy" - Cee Bee
Next to none since friendfeed. Loving me some friendfeed! - joshua fouts
None. I'm wasting my time on friendfeed instead :) - Ryo
I would love to use Twitter and Friendfeed more - if only they were more mainstream here in Australia. - Jim Yiapanis
Isn't Twitter like breathing? I don't stop breathing. - Carolyn via twhirl
I think I'll be wasting a lot of time on FF, only because it offers you more real estate than twitter. That and the fact that I never know when, and if, twitter will be online! - Dukeswharf via twhirl
Great app, helped me cut my social shennanigans under an hour a week. - Sean Oliver
i use twitter a lot since it helps me connect with real people and real solutions. the conversations on friendfeed are ones that drive the thought process and creativity though . - Fuad Arshad
Sounds like a great tool, though it vaguely sounds like a rip-off of something else. I don't consider my Twitter/FF time wasted though. I learn so much in the course of goofing off, and save so much time venting rather than stewing in my own frustration that it's a wash. - tinu
Spent 2 years there for grad school and also returned for honeymoon. Still want to go back when I can. - saeba
We just got back and included the big island for the first time. I would definitely go back to the Big Island and that surprised me: http://flickr.com/photos/jagra... - RAPatton
I'm heading to Maui right after ComicCon. Can't wait, can't wait. I heard a local say "Hawaii is the land God loves the best" during one trip and it always stuck with me as being right on. - Steve Isaacs
Go with one that doesn't shed much (if any). - Mike Wills
Best dog I've ever had is my Shihtzu - maybe hard to believe, but they're perfect companions - ready to play when you want, chill out when you wanna be left alone, entertain themselves if you don't want to play, extremely loyal, great watch dog (not guard dog though!) Not the smartest dogs in the world, and not terribly trainable, but what does it matter when they weigh 12 pounds? - Tad - just Tad
@Mike - The cats shed. Not a problem :) - Charlie Anzman
our lab is great w/ our cats - our jack russell thinks they're just big vermin ;) - mike "glemak" dunn
Go to an animal shelter, the puppie will pick you. - Andrew Smith
Goldens are awesome dogs too. Big, goofy, happy, loyal, but not too gentle as puppies. You also need to really like dog hair, and lots of it! :) - Tad - just Tad
Golden! Or a Newfoundland. Golden on steroids with a blown out hairstyle. ;-) I TOTALLY want a Newfie. *sigh* - Lisa L. Seifert
Labs also wonderful breed - great with kids, fun, love the water ... - Patrick Jordan
You already have 3 cats? Sounds like, no matter what dog you get, it will be heading into hostile territory. - Rahsheen(isSoAwesome)
I second the Shihtzu vote. They don't shed and so are better for people with allergies. Their fur is very soft and fine almost like human hair. They do require grooming or it will mat up if it gets too long and you aren't willing to brush it every day. They are great little dogs with wonderful temperaments: not hyper, skittish or shy. They make awesome family pets. - Lindsay Donaghe
Read about breed personalities to see which one fits your lifestyle best. - Lindsey Smith
How about a rescue dog?? Is breed the most important issue? Would rescuing a dog perhaps make you guys feel great about your choice of dog no matter its size/breed/color/etc.?? Just a thought. - Lisa L. Seifert
Lisa - She's a 'rescue' kinda person. Loves anything with four legs. People ... another story :) Lindsey - Found one really good website so far ... Have been reading. Don't want 'Star Wars'!!!! - Charlie Anzman
depends on your lifestyle, how much time you want to spend with your dog, size of your yard, how much exercise you want to do, do want to get involved in obedience or agility training? - Nick Cowie
You have cats, go for something else medium or small and smart. Beagles are good, some terrier breeds, boxers, etc. Short-haired is your friend with a dog, especially if you already have cats. You'll probably want to get something young so it can adjust to the cats. The cats will also be more likely to quickly adjust to something young and innocent. Read up on breeds to see which ones you like or don't like. Some HOA/Apts/etc forbid what they think are "aggressive breeds", even though those don't exist. - xero
http://www.petfinder.com. That's where we found one of our dogs (the other is a street dog who adopted me in Guatemala). You can search for a breed or mix that seems appealing, then talk to the shelter/foster home about personailty specifics to see if it will fit your home. If you don't have any preference on big vs. small, go big, b/c it is harder for shelters to adopt out big dogs. - Shannon Jiménez
Please, do your research first - and adopt one from a shelter / rescue league if you can. My suggestion on starting points would be: look for "poo" mixes. - l0ckergn0me
Beagles all the way. They're very much human. :-) - Jim Turner via twhirl
I am convinced a German Shepherd is the best dog to get. Or a Shepherd mix.. they are smart, generally not stinky, and even-tempered. They love positive reinforcement as well. - J. Phil
meh, don't get a beagle, they aren't very nice with the little critters like cats. If you have a big lawn/yard, get a border collie; they're gentle, good with kids if you have em, and extremely smart and trainable. - Dillon Hall
I think I'm now permanently sold on Rottweilers. They're generally good with cats, if raised with them. But Rotties aren't for everyone. It's tough to beat a Golden Retriever. Mouthy as pups, but such mellow and affectionate adults. Really depends on how they will live with you: will they be left alone? Are there any kids? A yard? What do you want from a dog? (And Chris is right -- adopt, if practical. All my animals are rescues.) - Chris Baskind
I'm really new on FF (like today) and this is probably shameless self-promotion but from some of these posts (above) you may want to try this. It really does work. http://www.fetchdog.com/Shop?d... - Lisa Front
Mini Pin!! They have great personalities and are easy to train. - Corie Allison
lisa: i tried just out of curiosity & it chose a lab for me (which of course is one of the dogs i own) - takes a couple of minutes but delivers a pretty thorough detail of top 5 recommended breeds - awesome, you should give it a try charlie... - mike "glemak" dunn
I've been looking around for a Jack Russel Terrier. Always wanted one. I wish my wife would hint around for a dog. I'm gonna have to just come home with it one day. - Chris
How about getting her a Screen Saver ( www.dogscreensaver.com ), three cats are enough! - Victor Ryden
Best dog combo: black lab and rottweiler. You will not regret it. - Akiva Moskovitz
chris: we love our jack russell, its an irish which is the more mellow side of the breed compared to parsons - she however is not very tolerant of the cats nor are they of her ;) - mike "glemak" dunn
Think I should have titled this ... People you should follow on FF?! Mike, Lisa F - Great resource. Was up half the night messing with it. Thanks! - Charlie Anzman
The best dogs come from shelters and rescues. Give a pup a fighting chance by being a rescue hero! - Kevin Donahue
I second Lisa's comment--the right breed match is a personal thing and it is critical to align with your home, lifestyle and psychographic profile. (Many dogs that end up in shelters get there because of a bad lifestyle fit--who knew that beagles bay or jacks hunt or gsp's need 2 hrs of exercise every day?). That's why the FetchDog breed selector http://www.fetchdog.com/Shop?d... we built steers clear of pure aesthetic characteristics like so many of the internet dog tools. Adoption--yes! - Peter Troast
And one more thought--wearing my jack russell owner hat: are the cats precious? - Peter Troast
Peter - It's good to see you here on Friendfeed. I already engaged Lisa yesterday. Great stuff. Thanks (to all!) - Charlie Anzman
Decision made ... sort of. Went house shopping today. House first, then dog .. - Charlie Anzman
I have no idea why some people think Twitter and FriendFeed are in competition. Two totally different tools used in completely different ways by everyone. - Slobokan
I agree - they have different purposes. To some degree FF can be used similarly to Twitter. - Jim Turner via twhirl
And who cares how "YOU" use it? Use it anyway you want. There are no rules. - Jim Kukral
it isn't going to be a unreliable issue, it'll be a 'reliable other thing' (like friendfeed) issue. when you are certain that enough of 'the conversation' has moved away, and we can get away without twitter, we'll leave. i'm willing to wager it's already happening. the question i ponder is: can twitter regain its footing, or have they permanently lost it? i hope the money/team can make enough impact fast enough... - Jeremy Toeman
I guess it depends on the person you're talking to. Individual annoyances vary. - Les
Plurk will have problems soon, too. They're already showing. - Hao Chen
The thing that bugs me is that it took some time to build an audience on Twitter. I don't want to give that up by hopping to another service. Although if everyone I Twittered with came over to FriendFeed, I'd jump. Right now it's about 33% - Rafe Needleman
I hear you, Rafe. As it is right now, I'm using both FF and Twitter, but if they have another major outage, I think a bunch more people will switch. Still, because FF is promiscuous (it reads my Twitter feed) there's no loss to continue to use Twitter while it remains useful. - David Sifry via twhirl
In your case, I'm quite sure your audience will follow you wherever you go - Bwana McCall
Rafe - same for me. I don't want to move to another app and rebuild my community. So, I guess i'll have to suffer through the Twitter growing pains. - Jim Turner
FF is a much better place for conversations Rafe. I suspect that someone like you, a prominent tech journalist, would build up an audience here just as large as your audience at Twitter. For what it's worth I haven't been on FF all that long and I've got almost as many people following me here (2,797) as I've got following me at Twitter now (3,177). The audience is growing faster over here than there as well. - Thomas Hawk
but you are thomas hawk. people follow you, - excalipoor
Bwana & Thomas are right, it won't be a problem to get audience here, You might like it even more here - Dobromir Hadzhiev
Twitter is no where near dead yet. My personal theory is they didn't expect loads of people choosing to massive amounts of others. In the past week, I've had several people with absurd numbers of follows (one with 60k, one with 90k) - that's insane. Twitter has hired some top talent to address these issues and got new rounds of funding to assist. Personally I still love twitter and find it a different and useful complement to Friendfeed. - Doug Brooks
I'm on it less than before, but use Twitter as a gateway to more reliable socnets like FriendFeed, where we can have longer discussions. The community on Twitter still merits having an account there. Can we be hopeful that now that they got another round of funding, they'll FINALLY find ways to make it more reliable? - Cathryn Hrudicka
FriendFeed is certainly a very reliable Twitter client, I'm finding. It's nice to get everything that everybody's doing -- not just what they tweet -- inside a feed as well. - Jared Smith
Twitter peaked during the early primaries, it was an incredible learning and connecting tool. It's not doing anything for me anymore. So have I moved on? Not exactly, because nothing has come along to replace it. FF is very different, and most of the people I connected with on Twitter aren't here. I've always said it's about the people. Nothing else. - Dave Winer
Compared to mobile carriers and cable companies, Twitter does quite well. It's free and works most of the time. I'm sure things will get better given all the $$$ they've raised recently. - Mike Reynolds
As long as it takes for FriendFeed to handle SMS posting. - Rubin Sfadj
As wonky as Twitter is, I'm still preferring it to Plurk. FF is gaining steam with me, but it still seems more static to me somehow. Haven't pulled enough people into my circle here yet, I suppose. - abacab via twhirl
unreliable? I would say unpopular ;) I would leave twitter If I could follow ALL my friends and MORE interesting people in other place :) - Lora Lufark
still on twitter. Not sure when I will move out. - Thejesh GN
Excellent, a Twhinge (Twitter + whinge) thread! In all seriousness... I posted about this situation at Broadcasting Brain today. I am feeling fed up and having the Reply function on the Twitter Web app disabled doesn't help at all. - Mark Dykeman
I prefer Plurk's timeline and threaded comments, but the community doesn't seem to be present quite yet. Once the community exists, I'd be happy to switch. But something like FF will keep me happy in the meantime. - Jason Ziglar
excalipoor, but he is Rafe Needleman, an influential and popular online tech journalist. People will follow him wherever he goes as well. - Thomas Hawk
Have you given it up? Me neither. That's 'cause we forget how much it sux when its working right. - shelisrael1
There have been plenty of opportunities for people to move off Twitter to clones. Since it hasn't happened yet, primarily because it is hard to bring your community with you, I don't expect it to happen ever. - Bob Ngu
How expensive does gas have to get before people like me give up driving cars totally? :-) - Bassam Islam via twhirl
Twitter indeed has its limitations. It is NOT a replacement for the fluidity of IRC, it is not viable as a live conference tool, at so many junctures it introduces latency, this is all before we touch upon its infrastructure, reliability, and ability to scale. Perhaps Bezos' infusion of cash will see to thoee last points - David Blumenstein via twhirl
For me the thing the twitter offers is the ability to sms info quickly to a bunch of people. Events like Siggraph twitting about the next events or the results of events as they happen to people at the shows. Imagine if the SF Giants twittered player info at their games or things like that. I do agree that it's horrible for conversation, but one-way info is a perfect use for it. - Doug Brooks
Fortunately it's not too hard for me to move over here. Most of my (and yours, I'd argue) followers on Twitter are ghosts (long gone) or following for reasons other than shear interest. Twitter is still useful for ephemeral exchanges and generally telling the world how undercaffeinated I am. But for interesting links/thoughts and level of conversation this is where I'm now planting my flag. - Jim Stanger
I like FriendFeed more every day. But I miss Twitter. - Rafe Needleman
I don't rely on it for communication. To me it's like graffiti on a wall. I'll keep reading it, but if they repaint the wall, c'est la vie. - Patrick Beard
As long as there is a backup, like FriendFeed, I think Twitter can go out regularly... for me, this works. For all the good Twitter-based projects or business models, Twitter is running out of charm.... - shanebe
5 days continuous ... maybe. People have built huge followings. They're not abandoning them. - Charlie Anzman
New money and new people coming in to Twitter. Users have been through all of this and stayed so far...they will wait it out. Twitter will and must fix the architecture once and for all and conclude on a viable business model and be off to the races. I'm as sick of the flying whale as anyone else but inexplicably I haven't left...and I don't think I will. - Paul Marshall
Once the A-listers leave Twitter, it's over. - Dossy Shiobara
We're all getting tired of the hit/miss feature set and repeated, unplanned downtimes. Twitter management of their app is beyond weak, it's moved over to an untenable business and is completely unreliable at this point. I do think they are taking active steps to rectify the instability of their current app / db environments, but it may be too little, too late. - Susan Beebe
you lot have very short memories - ebay, amazon, google, world of Warcraft all had issues when they hit viral explosive growth - icq, hotmail - I could go on and on. The fact that there is this much heat about it shows that it will get through the hurdles and move on. - Ed Dale
