Oh wow, according to them, that failed Russian missile swirly-thing was apparently god. "God does not like the European Union and he’s making it clear that they all share in this sin together." (http://christwire.org/2009...)

Interview/'chat' over. Seemed to go ok, they seemed like cool guys. They're still not certain they can take on a graduate/junior but I should know before Xmas. I wonder whether my buying Journey over RATM (for Xmas #1) will affect my chances.
- Amy
I have wild dreams every night. Last night I was in the World Trade Center, as they were rebuilding it identically to the old one. Drew Carey was filming the price is right on some floor above until he was heckled and started fighting with a fan. Then I moved up to a higher floor and there was a Cadillac. Kevin Rose and Sarah Lane were making out in the front seat. Then I woke up. Analysis please....

I'm going to sub for Patrick Norton... I'm going to sub for Patrick Norton...

I have pretty lucid dreams, i can control them 80% of the time, and i can remember then pretty well!
- Fee501st
I'm actually just up from having a dream about chasing a serial killer, I was right outside the room he was in, holding a gun....and then I woke up and couldn't get back to sleep to find out what happened. :(
- Amy
I've been lucid dreaming since I was in college. Once you do it the first time, it's progressively easier after that. The hard part is maintaining control, since once I realize I'm dreaming, I often also start feeling my own body lying there again, which tends to wake me up. Annoyingly, this usually happens just as Jessica Alba shows up with her friend Zooey Deschanel...
- Otto
I haven't lucid dreamed in a long time.
- Veronica
Every once in a while I'll be dreaming and think "This would make a great script". Unfortunately, by the time I wake up the only part of the dream I can remember is that thought. Considering the dreams I *do* remember, that's probably for the best... :)
- Thomas
I had that same problem was @leolaporte. I had to re-follow to get it to show.

Veronica: last i see on the public timeline was your comment about answering as eric cartman. I'm obviously not counting your replies :)

I had 12 tabs open and 2 extensions in the mix.
- Amy
14 tabs here. and 2-3 extensions. also don't forget, it does have its own task manager, so you can look to see what the memory usage is for each tab.
- Carlos Urrutia
Meh, I have firefox 'just so' with more addons than you can shake a stick at. If I do that with Chrome then by the time its added a new chrome.exe for each thing I won't be able to use my pc for anything else.
- Amy
Odd. I can have a dozen extensions with a dozen tabs open in Chrome and it *still* runs faster than firefox...
- Thomas
I'd agree with that off the bat, except I don't quite recall what the hard limit for number of concurrent processes is in Windows. I know Mark Russinovich wrote an article on it either earlier this year or late last year though
- LANjackal
from IM
#sigh how many times does the "speed isn't everything" point have to be made?
- LANjackal
from IM
Thomas: It's marginally faster but I wouldn't say it's noticably so. Besides, I *like* firefox, I don't like the interface/design for Chrome that much. Less RAM was the one thing I was actually willing to go to the bother of switching for, but it ain't got that either.
- Amy
I'm too attached to my Addons to leave Firefox.
- Dave Friedel
It never said it used less ram - the "selling" point with Chrome is speed. And I can definitely notice. Once lastpass made the move to Chrome, I haven't looked back.
- Thomas
Thomas: I've recently read comments from a few people, claiming less RAM. That was my swaying point.
- Amy
It has to use more ram because it decouples all the processes. The benefit, though, is that a crash on one tab won't bring the whole browser down (unlike FireFox).
- Thomas
Thomas, Fx crashes are so rare for me nowadays that the RAM tradeoff (I have only 2GB on my main PC) isn't worth it
- LANjackal
from IM
Thomas: Yeah, I know, but FF has the recovery thingmabob (technical term) and it hardly ever crashes now so I can't justify spending ages fannying around moving my stuff and setting it up how I like it just for that. It's ok, it's just not for me.
- Amy
Firefox works fine (and way better than IE) - I just like how Chrome handles. To each their own...
- Thomas
Though I'm surprised you don't use Safari... :)
- Thomas
Amy: Actually, extensions keep their own separate process so that if the extension crashes it doesn't bring everything down. It also saves memory. Think how much memory it would use if you had a separate copy of each extension running in each tab :)
- Carlos Urrutia
Carlos: Meh, firefox doesn't crash very often and it has them all rolled into one. I'm sure it makes it more stable but stability isn't really an issue.
- Amy
Thomas: :P (Also I hope you cleaned your mouth out with soap after you brought IE into the conversation)
- Amy
no one should bring IE into a conversation. That's a "no-go" zone.
- Jerry Perez
I actually ended up moving from FF to Chrome because its performance SUCKED on my system. Chrome was SOOO much faster. Also, Its easy to tell which tab is using up resources with chrome. thank you built in task manager!
- Carlos Urrutia
If apple ever does a self finding tough phone, you should be a beta tester. It would beep you are cry, "Mommy? Why are you leaving me behind" in a very annoying whinny voice! And it would be made of something that can be run over by an SUV and survive

Does it translate handwriting to text, or do you need to run what it saves through a 3rd party OCR program?
- Thomas
I dunno...the idea of it needing special pads to write on (and them being £10 each) seems a bit awkward, I wouldn't have bought it for uni. It sounds like a cool product though.
- Amy
It would be amusing to play with, just to see what it thought I was trying write...
- Thomas
I once took notes on 'the chicken-beef theory' in a class about the psychology of vision (I was asleep!), the ability to hear what the lecturer was actually saying during my snooze would have come in handy. :)
- Amy
what the hell is the chicken-beef theory? Yes, i'm too lazy too google.
- Jerry Perez
Jerry: There isn't one! I was hungry and asleep, and taking notes.

I probably wouldn't have graduated if that was the case. Friendster was bad enough.

I used to watch Columbo at my gran's (well, to be more accurate SHE watched it and my brother and I mucked around). Old-school doesn't appeal, sorry, guys. :)

Yes, I'd somehow managed to avoid both 'When Harry met Sally' and 'Sleepless in Seattle' 'til last week and they were both on tv.
- Amy
I am not embarrassed to admit that I really enjoyed 'Sleepless'. Now when you Romeo & Juliet, r u talking about the Baz Luhrman one or the classic film?
- Jerry Perez
You need to watch Innerspace and Joe vs the Volcano - her two best movies...
- Thomas
from FreshFeed
Jerry: I didn't like sleepless so much, when Herry/Sally...I quite liked. Baz Luhrman one, sorry. :) Reminds me of high school - we had to watch it in English class.
- Amy
Thomas: I've seen innerspace, it gives me the heebies. Meg Ryan's in it tho?
- Amy
You'll need to watch Burn Notice then, his girlfriend/partner in spy is named Fee
- Matthew DeVries
Jerry once again is late to the conversation and makes a lame attempt to catch up after everyone has moved on. <yawn>
- Jerry Perez
Huh, what's going on here? I didn't delete any comments. One really crude one that Dave and Akiva commented on, but that was it. And wait, Akiva and Robert are dbags? Oh, ok. Good thing they don't have to subscribe to me if they don't want to.
- Veronica
No, Veronica didn't delete the comment. I'm sure that the commenter deleted it himself. It was completely inappropriate and disgusting.
- Rochelle
If me not treating you differently because you have a crapload of subscribers makes me a douchebag, then I'm the Holy Grail of Douchebags.
- Akiva Moskovitz
I don't really care if you give a frack who I am. But if you're going to be an asshole about it, you can go elsewhere.
- Veronica
Hey, I was defending against the crude comment yet I get called a douchebag?
- Akiva Moskovitz
So, you're what all Douchebags hope to be?
- Jerry Perez
So... you're a chivalrous douchebag? Now I'm really confused.
- Veronica
Aren't we supposed to take a shot when someone mentions Google Wave?
- Jerry Perez
Perhaps I am the one feeling a bit unchivalrous. But you yawned at me for no apparent reason other than the fact that you 1) don't know who I am (I would have been happy to enlighten you) an 2) I apparently don't subscribe to enough people on FF.
- Veronica
Hah, I was actually just snarking Amy who brought up your popularity. Sorry if you thought that was about you.
- Akiva Moskovitz
3) I'd be happy to get you a cup of coffee
- Veronica
If you need more people to subscribe to, I'm available Veronica : )
- Jerry Perez
Friends for life, Veronica! Friends for life!
- Akiva Moskovitz
We are so BFF now! And don't worry, I call Dave a douchebag all the time, it's a term of endearment.
- Veronica
Jerry, you might want to start with spelling her name right.
- Rochelle
Right on. And don't worry, I've been called way worse.
- Akiva Moskovitz
It's nice to see the Northwest Peace Accords signed. Make sure you keep the pens for posterity. I will never again underestimate the power of douchebag diplomacy
- Matthew DeVries
But Robert is still a douchebag, and the bad kind. Not the endearing kind.
- Veronica
Many of us have also been told to STFU.
- Jerry Perez
Hey, I blame the unfair questioning: I'm not mensa material and I most certainly don't wear bum bags under any circumstance. That's 4 questions I've 'failed' right there.
- Amy
LOL... I hope you understood the irony in my comment. :)
- Jason Wong
from iPod
Oh it's no mistake. In usability terms it means they don't want you shutting it off. The more Genius understands what you listen to, the more accurately they can market music and other things to you. It's a genius marketing tool (pun intended). That said, I always turn it OFF.
- Dave Friedel
I usually leave it on and will use ti to create playlists for me from time to time. sometimes its makes similar choices as I would. Sometimes not. :)

My genius is always off...iTunes? What's that?
- Ghworg
Usability-wise if I'd handed in something Apple-inspired as part of my MSc project I'd have fucking FAILED. Ever heard of tooltips? Or oh...I dunno, fucking labels for buttons, Apple?!
- Amy
Carlos: Oh, yes, under the 'store' menu coz that's where I'd expect something that compiles MY OWN FUCKING MUSIC into playlists for me to be. Ofc, how stupid of me. I HATE ITUNES. Aaaaaaaaaaaand BREATHE. *sits in meditation pose*
- Amy
I did use songbird. Until I got to the part where you can't use your itunes-bought songs without burning them and ripping them again. Plus everyone and their fucking dog LOVES Apple so I thought 'Give it another go'
- Amy
Plus you still need to have itunes installed to update the firmware, or to use that nike + thing (If, for some reason, I am possessed to go running in the rain I want a frigging record of it).
- Amy
C'mon, Amy, you know you want an iPhone now... *evil cackle*
- Thomas
Yes, when I have more money than sense I WILL buy one...so I can proceed to stamp on it in a very emo fashion. And send the video to Apple. With a list of my complaints.
- Amy
Not brilliant. Most of the jobs are in London but you don't seem to get paid as much (minus cost of living there). There's pretty much nothing entry-level.
