Caveman Diet: Stone Age Humans Ate Less Meat Than Previously Thought, Study Suggests - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012...
Instead, the first farmers, who lived around 12,000 years ago, likely ate no more than 40 to 50 percent of their protein from animal sources. Those people ate a diet more similar to subsistence farmers in modern-day India or China, O'Connell said. Hunter-gatherers from the Paleolithic period also ate less meat, she added. "We are suggesting that animal proteins would be less important overall and that's particularly true for interpretations of Neolithic farmers," she said. "What that would mean is that they are having more of a balance of animal and plant proteins in their diet, suggestive of a mixed existence strategy.” - Jacqueline Lichtenberg

alien romances: Finding The Story Opening Part 2: Avatar And The Day The Earth Stood Still - http://www.aliendjinnromances....
Tuesday, June 26, 2012 Finding The Story Opening Part 2: Avatar And The Day The Earth Stood Still Two blockbuster classic SF films based on an essential child-fantasy (rescue me from this oppressive life; or "Get Me Out Of Here" -- or "Beam Me Up, Scotty!") are worth comparing because they are the obverse of each other. When you add in Harry Potter, it's even more interesting. Last week we discussed Finding the Opening of a story. http://www.aliendjinnromances.... Avatar and The Day The Earth Stood Still have the same opening, while Harry Potter has a different opening. The "opening" moment of a story is when SOMETHING CHANGES. In film, you "lay pipe" as Blake Snyder puts it in his Save The Cat! Series -- you orient the viewer within the life that is about to change, within the framework of the Hero's situation, or the society or civilization's situation. - Jacqueline Lichtenberg

Tuesday, May 01, 2012 The Wrong Way To Write A Story I've said here any number of times there's no "right" or "wrong" way to write, or tell a story, and no "wrong" story to tell. I've illustrated that with exploring several interesting novels. Examples: http://aliendjinnromances.blogspot.com/2011... http://aliendjinnromances.blogspot.com/2012... But all across the web I'm finding people explaining what they don't want to do with their writing, and for what reasons -- and I'm finding professionals with money to invest in producing or publishing who are explaining what they need from writers and it is what the writers want to avoid doing. And ne'er the twain shall meet, it seems. So here's one more attempt to explain to each of these groups what the other is talking about and why. - Jacqueline Lichtenberg

Climate Change: Global Warming Report Finds Time Running Out - http://digg.com/world_n...
"This article has an obvious political agenda, but the significant point is that the predictions made 3 years ago are turning out to be wrong, way underestimating the actual effect of whatever is going on. With "wrong predictions" coming from our best consortium of internationally respected scientists, I suspect by the time we do have a good understanding of the global warming process (natural and man-induced), it'll be too late. So where's Plan B?" - Jacqueline Lichtenberg

Google Lets You Custom-Print Millions of Public Domain Books - http://digg.com/arts_cu...
"This is a fascinating concept -- The article says ----------- Dane Neller, On Demand Books CEO, says the announcement flips book distribution on its head. “We believe this is a revolution,” Neller said. “Content retrieval is now centralized and production is decentralized.” ------------------------ Now figure out how to PAY authors for all this, and I'd be for it. Yes, right now they're using "public domain" books (out of copyright in the place where the copy is sold -- yeah, and China cares about USA copyright?). I want people to have this access. Maybe they could put an advertisement for the author's current work in the out-of-copyright-in-the-printing-location book?" - Jacqueline Lichtenberg
