What Happens When Arkansas Spectators Watch a "Cage Fight" Turn Gay
9 hours ago - via Bookmarklet - Link
Lured by $1 beer and the prospect of "hot chicks" and "hardcore fights," thousands of Arkansans were duped last month into appearing as extras in comedian Sacha Baron Cohen's latest staged mayhem. Cohen and his confederates organized cage fighting programs on consecutive days in Texarkana and Fort Smith. Both cards ended with two male grapplers (one was identified as "Straight Dave" and wore camouflage) tearing each other's clothes off and, while in underwear, kissing down their opponent's chest. This man-on-man action triggered Fort Smith fans to throw chairs and beer at the ring, according to one cop present at the city's Convention Center. - Thomas Hawk via Bookmarklet
Sacha Baron Cohen is such a provocatuer! - Larry Kless via twhirl
The new film stars another of Cohen's creations, Bruno, a gay Austrian journalist who interviews subjects about fashion and entertainment. It is reportedly titled, "Brüno: Delicious Journeys Through America for the Purpose of Making Heterosexual Males Visibly Uncomfortable in the Presence of a Gay Foreigner in a Mesh T-Shirt." The June 5 Texarkana promotion was adverstised as "Red, White, and Blood." The June 6 matches in Fort Smith were dubbed "Blue Collar Brawlin'" - Thomas Hawk

Brilliant. He's not a comedian -- he's an artist. - Chris Baskind
Bruno ist sexy - Andrea Baker
Genius - Mike Doeff
Perhaps this is unkind, but since there's been so much 1938Media talk today, I'll just say it: Sacha drinks Loren's milkshake. THAT'S how you do politically charged comedy. He cuts left, right, and center, but usually hits the mark in a way that is both irrefutable, precise, and hilarious. - Madsimian
The thought of Bruno drinking Loren's milkshake is causing me to LOL. - Clay Newton
The guts Cohen has to stage these things - it's awe-inspiring - Kevin Briody
Someday, Sasha is going to end up dead from one of these stunts. - Justin Whitaker
@Justin, I like the word "stunts" because the first time I saw SBC, I thought My god, this guy is so brave--he does the sociological version of "Jackass," which, in my opinion, takes a lot more "balls" than stapling your scrotum to your leg. And I agree with the previous comments about his brilliance--he's amazing! - Anna Haro
I think the guy is genius he really puts himself into these roles but I agree one day he is going to push it too far. Let me find a clip of Bruno on YouTube which is hilarious... - Joe Dawson
Do you think that someone should tell him that there are lots of people in that part of the country who carry loaded guns? - Paul Denlinger

That is my take, I blog on my family, sport, technology, music and anything I find interesting. I feel that creating several blogs wouldn't do justice but I have created a Tumblr blog to pull out all of my tech content to see how that works! - Joe Dawson
Thanks and that does make sense! How do you promote your blog is their a service or directory that is free? I had started a blog to really have stuff about everything and just create labels for the various things I post. - orionstarr
I look at a blog as a brand. You can certainly build your brand/blog on multiple topics. If there's enough interest, audience and time, you can later spread the brand with blogs for each area of interest. - Kevin C. Tofel
I see the point of branding the blog, for me my mind goes in so many directions it's hard to focus on one particular blog - orionstarr
I think blogging is about you, not a company and service. Otherwise it's just a news driven web site. It's about people buying / buying into "you the brand", so talk about what's important to you (and your readers). - David Sim
the questions arises, "if i focus a single blog on more diverse topics, how will that impact my readership and the value i may provide?" - Mark Eckenrode
we still haven't decided- we have a blog of blogs www.afprc1.blogspot.com and also topical blogs such as www.afprc7.blogspot.com or www.afprc11.blogspot.com. We are experimenting with featuring content from our other blogs in the right sidebar via feeds. Also tagging plays a role. - Reed Stockman
i went through this myself. the way i decided is if one category ended up having it's own audience that was big enough to move it out. then, in my head (and explained on the blogs), the new blog was like that category from the other one. make sense? - Rob Williams
Great, question. I've wondered that too... I bet all bloggers have! - Susan Beebe
I really never started a blog to gain an audience per say. It is an outlet and a way of expression. I try and use a blog for productive things. Posting stories, photos, art, quotes and just anything. So I try and grow the blog with each post. I also add widgets like i-tunes mixes, podcast links, things like this to give visitors something to gain and use. - orionstarr
@orionstarr - that's how I started also. But then I found I talked about marketing a lot and realized there was a different audience. So I spun my marketing category into it's own blog. - Rob Williams

Do you mean you are moving your blog to a new domain? Doing so is always going to provide a hit to your natural ranking. The trick to leveraging your existing position is to redirect all of your old URLs to their new location. Check out 301 redirects. It is generally thought that this passes on some but not all of your "link juice". This might not be possible depending on your old setup. This highlights the importance of getting your URL structure right early on. I've just changed mine actually but fortunately I only have about 3 inward links to http://www.wistop.com/blog so it's no big loss! But personally Id recommend the purchase of a domain name that you can stick with in the long run right from the start. Best of luck with your move! Let us know what your notice - all feedback on these experiences is useful for SEO research!! - Winston
I am exactly the same Ben, I originally started my blog to talk about my children and my nights out. It has evolved massively since then and I feel that dividing into two blogs may be beneficial. As I also don't want to lose my personal posts I feed my tech posts through a Tumblr blog!! - Joe Dawson
You could try a more subtle approach. If your original blog was family+kids, you now find yourself bloggin about family+kids+marketing and you want to separate the marketing stuff onto a new blog, you could just post all future marketing posts on the new blog, with a link from your original one, or (more complicated) move over all your marketing content to your new blog and redirect the URLs. - Matthew Bennett via twhirl
What's the easiest way to move posts and information like that over to a new blog? I use an installed WordPress on http://benparr.com, if that helps. - Ben Parr
Our very own ProBlogger's story is a good example of diverging blogs. As you already have your own name .com then maybe keep that going as the personal one and set up a brand new project? Google might help you find a way to move posts, personally i'd do it by script - maybe someone with a db background has done it before and posted some instructions? - Winston
OK, just had a look at the wordpress schema. It's pretty basic! How technical are you? If you know what you are doing it's prob as simple as extracting the info you want from wp_posts and wp_postmeta. wp_comments too if you want the comments. It's one of those things thats "easy when you know how" but probably very daunting if you don't. Ask on the WP forum, someone must have documented this or written a little script... :) Drop me a line if you take the backend route and need a pointer. Cheers. - Winston
I'll drop a line later tonight - I should be able to handle most of the technical stuff. One thing about the comments, though - I use Disqus. - Ben Parr

Different AND better AND complimentary. Top right, search for "twitter vs friendfeed". It will bring up conversations about this topic. - John Samuelson
it is all very relative to what you are looking to get out of a social communication tool - I loves inputs and conversations so right now FriendFeed is perfect for me, I can't get enough noise, information or exposure to a variety of different personalities and thoughts. Others may want a much more limited amount of interaction so they pare down the number of people they follow and filter as much noise as possible or rely more heavily on twitter - Marco
@chris this is better than twitter... there's structure and organization than is lacking in Twitter IMO - Ron Emrick
I find this fascinating. I'm using Twhirl for FriendFeed, and I LOVE the way that a new conment puts the post back up at the top of the box so everyone can see it again. And I love how I can simply click on the @ and post a comment right inside the thread. FF offers an outstanding platform, I think. Better in many ways, but not replacing other goods like Twitter. If Twitter is smart, they'll incorporate some of this in their upgrades. - Lisa Creech Bledsoe via twhirl

I'm not sure what "free time" is, but I try to balance business & being online with creative writing, composing music, sound design & video projects, photowalks, creative arts, cultural events, reading *gasp* books, travel, being with family and friends, pets, good food, gardening, hiking, outdoor activities. I spend very little time on TV, mostly PBS or a few genuinely informative programs. I generally read, cook, take photos, pet the cat, nap, hike, internet (a new verb!), go to museums, hang out with friends, eat cheese. - lisa-k
Reading (both online through Google Reader and Friendfeed and offline), photography, a little TV, games (video (on the Wii) and board), trying restaurants, baking/cooking/making ice cream. Baking! How could I forget to add baking in as a free time activity? - Michelle Jones
kids, photo/walking, music (not playing), internet... but free time iis darn scarce - silpol
Watch TV, read when I can, go out to dinner and movies with friends whenever possible with crazy schedules. I volunteer at too many things, but I don't consider that "free time" cuz they're obligations, too (however pleasurable). I also travel to see distant friends when I can. Chicago in 2 weeks! Can't wait. - Louise Alcorn
