Robert Scoble
FriendFeed's real downfall...
Is too many geeks. - Robert Scoble
Like you! ;-) - Susan Beebe
Doesn't have a commenting system such as Disqus - Michael McGimpsey
One of us! One of us! One of us! - Louis Gray
I'd agree with that. I like the look and feel of FriendFeed, but if I don't want to discuss tech and social media then at the moment there's not a lot here for me :) - Mike
just subscribe to geeks and you feel that you are not alone! ;)...via feedalizr - Dieter Schwarz
I actually find Friendfeed to be even harder to explain to the uninitiated than twitter, which is saying something. Anyone got a good elevator pitch? :) - Brad McCrorey
Brad: just like Facebook's news feed but open to all the Web instead of just the stuff Facebook approves of. - Robert Scoble
will only come if they forget that they are only ever as good as their user base - Duncan Riley
friendfeed is the river, where all the streams of information from individuals meet. - Allison
Brad: "Experience first-hand the artistic process of insightful journalists." or " Get ahead. Hear the news behind the news." or "Easily & quickly hear the fragmented conversation of technology journalists." - Mitchell Tsai
... is duplicates. - Tony Ruscoe
fragmentation of conversations.. - Peter Dawson
It's not a bug, it's a feature @Peter Dawson - Thomas Frütel
lack of a good mobile client and no SMS - David Jacobs
@Cyvros/fyc: Once communication reaches a critical mass, it needs to be fragmented. Imagine everyone on watching the new Indiana Jones gathering up and discussing the movie in a single place. Won't work. Also, try to have a meaningful discussion in the comments area of some major newspaper's website. Fragmentation gives you a spot to discuss stuff happening with your peers, and not with the whole world at once. - Thomas Frütel
@davidjacobs: Thinking about it, if FF had SMS, it will be very noisy unless they found a way to send summaries in 160 characters or less - Tim Akinbo from Alert Thingy
Scoble, I have no idea who you are, but I have heard your named mentioned more times than my mother's name in the past week. Do you give out free money? - Howard O'Berry
I'm going to sound like a real fangirl here, but I haven't seen FriendFeed's downfall. This is the most fun I've had online since 1999. I've met more people on FriendFeed who just *get* me than anywhere else. Also, the conversations have been wonderfully intelligent and funny. And it's made me try out new services that I've heard about but haven't had the need to try. If you think FriendFeed is a tech echochamber, you're not subscribing to a diverse enough slice of folks -- we're out there, just look. - Ginger Makela Riker
A mobile client would be perfect i believe. Besides this if we can name the problem with social aggrerators, it would be better we keep it secret for business.:) - doruk tokçabalaban from twhirl
has any of you tried PLURK yet? its like twitter yet 100 times better! - Live Crunch Blog from twhirl
I haven't tried it, was waiting to see what the majority opinion was like! - Joe Dawson
lol@Howard - Shey
FriendFeed needs more micro-communities -- the Tech comm is strong, of course. There's also a visible Photography community. But it will need more niches. FriendFeed does not need to go mainstream in the traditional sense, kinda like Mixx - Shey
What's this I hear about Robert Scoble giving out free money? But seriously, I suspect one of FF's problems is that it can seem overwhelming for new users. Until you learn to hide posts that don't interest you, it can be a little weird. - Ha3rvey (on hiatus)
NO MOBILE VERSION! Notifications are not that great either ... - Jonathan Greene
Mobile version - http://www.fftogo.com - Bwana ☠
Is the lack of being able to filter out comments and (friend of X). Sometimes I just want the content from my friends. - Mark Interrante
@mark, I feed back to FF, it would be good to have categories/tabs to select where a subscription should display. e.g family, colleagues, interest groups etc. - I think that would go someway to helping clear the clutter sometimes. - Charlie Hope from twhirl
It needs lipstick & makeup to be attractive to more people. - shelisrael1
No SMS and can't directly import my Twitter friends. - Brent Logan
I may be too sensitive to this point, but I think it would be messing with the formula too much and too quickly. Friendfeed has buzz and a growth curve, don't want to mess with that too much. :) - mikepk
I didn't have time to read the 30 other hidden comments, but in response to the very 1st one, I think geeks are what make FriendFeed worthwhile. I've never felt compelled to comment so frequently, nor have I found so much good content so quickly anyplace else on the web. I hope the geek quotient will always remain high. If the wider world finds out about it, it will become nothing but cat photos and re-recycled net memes. There's enough of that. - Kamilah Reed (K. Gill)
in a just world, friendfeed's real downfall would be the resurrection of Google Reader (sort of a friendfeed+++++) - McLoughlinPost newsfeed
AJ Batac
Friendfeeders, Are games a waste of time? Why or why not?
I ♥d playing Starcraft and Warcraft + Playstation. :) - AJ Batac
Expensive but by no means a waste of money - Joe Dawson
Moderation :) - directeur from NoiseRiver
Heck no. If something is fun and/or entertaining, it's never a waste of time. - Scoble, Alex Scoble
for a Philosopher's take -- think of the value of drinking parties (Plato) - Michael Maranda
That's a good argument Alex. - AJ Batac
Depends on what type of games you're talking about. I think there's a lot more value in complex tabletop games and games like chess than in dumb Flash games online or whatever. - Rochelle
I have pretty much abandoned gaming in favor of social media. I was a several-hours-a-day PC gamer for 10+ years. I like to think that SM has more possibility of a return on my time investment than WoW did. - Daniel J. Pritchett
Nope, because I rock at Star Wars Battlefront II. - Steven Perez
I sure hope not. I was really sucked into Sims 2 for a couple years. Now I play a few times a week. Mostly to design houses. :) But, I'm still a sucker for 'casual games' like Diner Dash, etc (bigfishgames.com). I get lost in trying to beat the damn things. - Yolanda
Games recharge my brain and leave me refreshed to think about other things, a lot like a good walk. - Jennifer Dittrich
one exgamer says no - Dobromir Hadzhiev
No. Games can improve mental and physical dexterity, mental acuteness, memory, etc. There have been studies done. And *applauds* Alex's answer. -
Honestly, I'd rather read a book. :) - Rachel Walden
Depends on your priorities, but for me, I enjoy games. - Rodfather
no. Because some times you just need to escape the doom and gloom :-) - Duncan Riley
Not if it's Sorry or Life. - Thomas Hawk
Games are a release from the horrible world outside. They can bring joy and relaxation and bring down your stress life. They are a great interactive entertainment media. How is that a waste of time? ;-) Waste away I'd say. :-D - Kol Tregaskes
"The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted." - Bertrand Russell -- Sometimes it's wasting time, just like movies and reading, sometimes it's useful. It does have benefits for hand-eye coordination, problem solving skills, teamwork, tactics, reflex improvement, vocabulary, cash management, etc. - xero
I don't know... is maintaining sanity a waste of time? - Michael W. May from twhirl
Only if you think it is. :) - Mona Nomura
Absolutely not a waste of time. - Clay Newton
Scrabble stimulates neurotransmitters. - Shelly Weiss
+1 xero. - AJ Batac
Really, I don't think that matters so much. What's important for our health is to intentionally indulge in completely frivolous "waste of time" activities on a regular basis. Playing games, feeding ducks in the park, blowing bubbles, coloring with crayons. If it feeds your spirit, do it, no matter who says it's a waste of time! - Ordinarybug Heather
Everything is a waste of time, then you get put in the recycle bin. Use your time the way you want to. - Sam Levine
No more a waste of time then being on FriendFeed. I can gain social interaction using both and at the same time be happy that I took something away from each. (No matter how trivial, it's still a small sense of accomplishment and fun.) - David Cook
Thanks for participating guys. Appreciate it! :) - AJ Batac
It has been argued that humans are "homo ludens" more than they are sapient. That said, I personally find that they can easily become a time tax, and tend to avoid them, preferring to spend that time on more solidly creative activity. - david beckwith
Probably my first native post on FriendFeed October 9, 2008. - AJ Batac
No way. - Anne Graham

FriendFeed API v2: Real-time, OAuth, file attachments, and more - http://blog.friendfeed.com/2009...
FriendFeed API v2: Real-time, OAuth, file attachments, and more
"Today we are launching version 2 of the FriendFeed API for beta testing. We focused on making the API simpler to use, and we added number of compelling new features." Documentation: http://friendfeed.com/api... - Bret Taylor from Bookmarklet
OAuth? Sweet. Thanks a lot for all the new good stuff in the API: can't wait to use it. - Mark Trapp
very nice. great work! - Alfredo 亜瑠布れっど
Yet another reason to like Bret. :-) - Jesse Stay
Great!!! - YungSang from FriendFoo
nice! - Daniel Rust
good job guys, I bet devs are jumping high right now - Dobromir Hadzhiev
Sweet, congrats! - Ivan Zuzak
nice, good to see OAuth support, this will enable a larger 3rd party ecosphere around FriendFeed, I hope - Jeroen De Miranda
After going through the documentation and playing around with some feeds, I love the fact that you can now see the subscriber lists of people who have their feeds set to private as long as you are subscribed to them and authenticate (mimicking the main site functionality). One thing that's absent is a discussion of Direct Messages. Do they show up in feeds if you authenticate? How do we find just direct messages? - Mark Trapp
Mark: direct messages are accessed using the feed ID "filter/direct". Read more about feed IDs at http://friendfeed.com/api.... Also direct messages appear in the "home" feed. - Benjamin Golub
Benjamin: ahhh, I see it now. I missed it when skimming that list over. Thanks! - Mark Trapp
Can you post the wget version of the command line? - Gabe
Gabe: wget --user=bgolub --password=passwd --post-file=MyPhoto.jpg http://friendfeed-api.com/v2... should work. In theory. Edit: nope. I'm not sure it's possible to do with wget. - Mark Trapp
Thanks God it is New API. - AlpB. from iPod
Nice progress here with this release! - Micah
I love it! - friday night
Why is wget questionable? - Gabe
Gabe: wget doesn't support multipart forms as a design decision. If you post a file, FriendFeed returns a 404, and if you post data, the query is too long for wget to handle. - Mark Trapp
Good work, look forward to seeing what developers can create - Joe Dawson
doublepluslike - Vezquex
curl FTW. - Jeremy Kunz
This is great, FriendFeed team. Good job. - Thierry R. Andriamirado
Woowoo, bgolub's password is “passwd” ;-) - Amit Patel
Amit: I wonder how many people tested that :) - Benjamin Golub
Thanks to bgolub posting his password, I now have all of FriendFeed's secret documents about notorious users, useless metrics, Justin Timberlake's promoting FF on Oprah's show, hiring Colbert as a spokesperson, Ev Williams being just a “distraction”. TechCrunch is going to love this! ;) - Amit Patel
Yes big big thanks to the whole team for all their hard work!! - ɐ ɯıʞ sıɹɥɔ from iPhone
thank you;) waiting for the release :) loving clone - abdellah from FriendFeed API Example
Yay subscribers exposed! - EricaJoy
Finally OAuth, I had a hard time memorizing my remote key. - Hugh Isaacs II
This is indeed very cool, anybody started on a c# version? - Jesper Lind

After most have put their placemarks on, don't let anyone edit it because there's always someone out there waiting to fuck shit up. - Andrew Trinh
@Andrew...good point. I just changed it from public to unlisted which only makes the map available to those with the URL. - Mark Krynsky
Even so, last time we had the Confessions account details on FF it was tinkered with. - Andrew Trinh

I've read the instruction and still don't see the button thing to add myself. I'm feeling pretty stupid right now. -
@Jill, make sure you are logged into your Google account and then click on the edit button above the list of names already on the map. You will then see the pushpin in the upper left hand side of the map. - Mark Krynsky
Thanks Mark! I see it all now. -
Great idea! - Alan Le
@Neal yea, we really need a FriendFeed meetup. I might be up there for Web 2.0 in March...or we can have one at SXSW if a large number of us are going. Let's plan and get the Upcoming page going. - Mark Krynsky
Am I the only FriendFeeder in VA? - Aram Zucker-Scharff
Maybe we can talk Paul & Bret into letting us invade the FF offices for a meetup in conjunction with Web 2.0? That would be sooooo cool! - Mark Krynsky
