Since Steve never seems to respond to download questions can someone be sure to record it and torrent it or such, I've never understood the whole "real time is the new black if you're not here to catch the show live tough shit" unspoken message that seems to have been going on for awhile. I can't be the only one put off by this, the content is compelling, so I put up with it, I wish I had the willpower to not listen out of protest. :)

I commend Steve for his dogged pursuit of the Real time Web aka Infinity Chip, though it is brutally painful at times to follow and/or be part of every step along the way. I too vote for a nice simple "old school" rss feed for the audio only recording. Then again, I am probably missing the point.

Jason: only that the Gang is returning on video. Today I listened to a video cast of Meet the Press in the car, worked beautifully, and when I wanted to see the last few minutes of Kennedy footage, rewound and watched. Whether it is delivered by RSS or streaming is up to the user. In fact, it was easier to download directly via iPhone iTunes than synching the phone to the RSS feed on the Mac. Interestingly, it continues to download in the background while I go through email.

Was that Meet the Press video cast live? The issue of video versus audio is moot for me, if I don't feel like watching I don't have to, it's the time shifted aspect that people are always asking for Steve. It seems you're commited to get the show in downloadable form and that's all I was ever asking for. That the show is now in video format is great for many, I generally listen to the majority of content I consume (even if its format is video). Thanks again, can't wait for today's GG!

I think saying it was Yoko isn't fair to John. I suspect that he would have drifted away if anything orthogonal came along. and whatever you think about Yoko, she was certainly orthogonal. It is also pretty clear that Paul was trying to get the group to perform and be more of a cohesive band than they could probably ever be again. There is nobody to blame. a Beatle fan I am, but their split was probably the right thing at the right time.

Here's my biggest issue with Facebook buying FriendFeed: I use the two services very differently. I only add people I know IRL as Facebook friends, but I follow a larger variety of people on FF. If FF gets sucked into Facebook, that's going to be hard to reconcile.

In FF, I'll add anyone that has something interesting to say or share. How to manage this going forward, I have no idea. Even worse: my Palm Pre syncs with my Facebook friends. I don't want it to pull in all of my FF contacts since I'll likely never call them.

@Kevin, I'm trying to avoid words like "worse" and the like. Like Kenley says, there are flexible privacy settings on FB. And considering the good engineering choices the FF guys have made so far, hopefully they'll continue to influence FF positively as it is integrated into FB.

Me too. There's no one on Facebook I haven't known for over a decade. I keep it very simple and clean, and don't share much at all there because I hate (no, that's not too strong a term) Facebook's model. Plus, FB's UI is not geared to handling hundreds of people effectively.

Yeah, I'm even worse off...I've done a lot of work to subscribe to quality people here, whereas on Facebook I subscribe to anyone who's a gamer, so it's very high noise to signal. Going to be very difficult to reconcile.

I agree that FB isn't geared toward managing a mass audience. Frankly, I find FB's interface cumbersome. It's why I enjoy FF so much. It's simple, gets the job done and gets out of your way. Hopefully it will stay that way.

Jason, what I did was created a "FriendFeeders" list, and unchecked the "show in my home feed" when adding a FriendFeed friend on Facebook. That's about the simplest way to import your FF friends at the moment so that they don't mix & mingle with your "real life" friends.

Only similar functionality on FB is FB Groups, but those are so SLOW moving compared to FF, more "under the boot" of the moderator, and of course are missing all of the discovery elements like Likes/Cmts pushing items back up, aggregation into notification lists (Friend Lists), asf. Well, let's pray that the good stuff from FF gets transferred over into FB Groups.

The old Twitter Track allowed you to set up multiple search terms (e.g. track iphone) and get those delivered to your IM with zero time lag. Leo spends a lot of his own money on products to be sure that he doesn't "owe" manufacturers anything. Even his advertisements are only for products he uses and likes himself. He only requested this unit because he records today, the day the Pre goes on sale, so he couldn't go out and buy one. If Leo is biased about a product or a company it's because he genuinely likes it. It's something Leo takes very seriously, and he had every right to be upset at someone impugning his honor, rightly or wrongly.

Before Thursday, Leo had said that he intended to buy a Palm Pre as soon as it came out, but that he'd like to get one a bit early, if possible. His radio show is on Saturday and he wanted to have one to review during that show. I don't think he gets review units very often; this one was something of an unexpected surprise. I think he only got it on Thursday.

Gilmor Gang should continue on TWiT, with Steve in charge of the guests he wants to bring on. Michael Arrington can cause friction but there has been plenty of outrageous comments on GG. Arrington is too much of a force in the digital universe to simply ignore. I very much admire Leo for what he is doing with TWiT and understand losing his temper. Rob: I think Leo is trying to build a network with a variety of styles and topics. That's key to having a strong network. I know a radio station owner who has both liberal and conservative talk show hosts who hate each other. But by doing that he has a far bigger audience than if he just went all one way where everyone got along nicely. Plus the station looks far more professional and objective than if it were all run by Rush Limbaugh wannabes. Same for Leo's network.

It's nice to get a realtime issue in some sense, to work loose the shaky brickwork. the web is a wild and wonderful place. Although real emotions are involved, the live nature of the content does make certain people respond differently.

Dialogue is good to work through an incident such as this. I'm glad that Leo and Mike responded so soon afterward. Apologies came quick and bitterness didn't have time to set in, which could have caused enmity between them for years to come. I've learned to be careful with strong initial reactions because I may not be totally understanding where the other person is coming from, and that is the source of so many of these kinds of problems.

On TWiT, the drama is replaced by the outstanding interactions between the members of the panel. Debating on the topic (like Dvorak v. everybody) is very different from getting personal, which I think is what happened here.

I'm not a regular listener of GG, but the times that I've tuned in seemed like there was drama and people were a bit flaming. I like shows with less drama than GG. I'm not sure who has reason. I don't think that this is black and white. Having the show squeaky clean wouldn't be interesting, but the drama just gets annoying and simply delays the tech.
