I like his talk till he says we do not need a Wiki, CMS, or any knowledge management platform beside eMails. I certainly do not think that eMails are a good knowledge management tool at all, and communication is often more than three lines of text, and cross-sending web-links.

I've always disagreed with Merlin on this specific point, but his general thesis about managing time and content holds true.

Right, and a processing ninja is something very different to a knowledge ninja. The processing (filtering) problem is only one form of information overload. The other, and more problematic case for scientists is the spigot risk and related to it missing collaboration options. And no, I do not believe that I can fix this with smooth team communication, since we can not share all the same room, can we?

The approach I have learnt to take is that you'll always miss some options, since there are just too many. The key is figuring out how to make sure you don't miss the ones that count. Don't have an answer for that. Reducing the processing overload does help make time for the spigot and mining it efficiently
