the price per additional defence point for both cars is silly high (£3,478 & £9,273 against the Sentry Gun @ £286 per Defence point). Given the directorate's propensity for nerf'ing stuff I'd horde the cash, unless it's a required for higher tasks
- John Bradford
I agree with John - why would anyone buy this or the armored car now that the armored car has been nerfed down to +100 defense
- Wang Yip
the cars in this game are worthless. unless stolen or won and then immediately sold for a portion of the actual price.
- Carlos Ayala
You guys would know better than anyone... so what's the deal with coalitions and "gangs" in SpyMaster? Are there any? Are you guys in any or thought about forming one?
I hear there's one called Unstoppable Brothers Coalition (something like that). I wouldn't be surprised if we see more of this activity surfacing since SpyMaster just went public
- Phillip Britton
Carlos mentioned a group, not sure if it was this. I'm sure I saw something on a Twitter account too on my travels.
- Kol Tregaskes
Some of them are huge but pretty loose alliances, others are more tightly knit. It's interesting to watch them form, there's been one merger as well. No one has gone to war yet, as far as I know. I think the smaller, high level, ones have a future, the large ones that are just to gain followers are quickly growing past their ability to coordinate operations.
- Aram Zucker-Scharff
LAOS - @graphysics @golbin (heavy hitters) @rootsix @sky0311 @potocosmos @blueblus @purplna (lackys) [edit - I take that back, I just hit @graphysics 4 times in a row and killed him off]
- John Bradford
I attacked someone in my spyring and they were a little annoying. I didn't think there was a rule? ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
yer, I just pissed of the LAOS sub-ring - 3 dozen or so attacks in the last couple hours - finally killed me off - didn't seem to cost me much though might even have ended up +£ and at least one armoured car!! :D
- John Bradford
not always - I just retaliated on @ronin (I'm currently lvl14, he's lvl7) - my attack is x4 his defense - out of 4 assassination attempts I succeeded once. My failures cost me about 150 attack points & roughly 100 defense points (I didn't keep track of £ losses). When I did succeed I didn't gain *any* attack or defense.
- John Bradford
it all seems pretty random. ive seen/heard of single level n00bs taking down staffers that ranked in the 20's with high spymaster counts.
- Carlos Ayala
Yeah the assassination thing seems rather random and I seem to have more luck vs people 5+ more levels above me than those that are the same or just a level or two above. Doesn't make much sense.
- ronin
ronin feel free to attack me man if you want to build up exp. i equate this with scrimming (or scrimmaging). so its all good. i am letting Kol build up and i am going after him next. ;)

what is your current level and attack and defense sums? Mine is level 11 with an Attack Sum of 4382 ans Defense of 2121 - I really wish they made it easier to see everyone else's
i dont think it shows the full scope even after you attack but i may just not have paid close enough attention
- Marco(aureliusmaximus)
Level 10, Attack sum of 6,002 and Defense of 3,512
- Louis Gray
DAMN LG! luckily for me I had already committed to leaving you alone after your attack on queenofspain on my behalf - for now at least ; )
- Marco(aureliusmaximus)
geez i gotta kick it into gear - apparently I have not been doing my math as well as some of you regarding the proper cost/benefit ratio in buying stuff - if i had the time (and skill hehe) I would build a quick and dirty app that let you plug in the current size of spymasters and spies in your network as well as how much money you had to spend and what weapons were avail to u and their costs so u could get back the most efficient allocation possible
- Marco(aureliusmaximus)
maaaan! my A = 1000 odd and D = 600 odd. No wonder you guys assassinate the crap out of everyone else.
- vijay
Is there any point to buying more than one weapon/armor per spy in your ring?
- ronin
if you have x spymasters, then buy x items. More than that and the multiplier doesn't work.
- vijay
ronin - there isn't but because of the cost/benefit gap of alot of the options I need to do a better job at allocating my resources more efficiently. I haven't been able to give the level of thought I would like but eventually I want to be able to determine the quantity at which the 500 dollar diff between, say, the Dragunov SVD and the G36C Assault Rifle creates an scenario where its actually more efficient to forgo the 4 point diff in attack power
- Marco(aureliusmaximus)
not quite sure the point of Attack & Defense scores, assassination success/failure seems pretty random and the rewards are insignificant - especially since you gain experience & cash even if you fail at a task
- John Bradford
@John in regards to "rewards are insignificant" and just out of curiosity, what level are you?
- Carlos Ayala
the reason i ask is because, for me, both the rewards and the exp points have been very significant. but i do agree that there is some randomness to the success rate. i am pretty sure however that it leans towards follower count.
- Carlos Ayala
level 10 - my aggressor was lvl 16 - he attacked, I retaliated (and failed) tried again and succeeded - only awarded 200 XP and around £1k - I can make more than that 'failing' to steal military documents
- John Bradford
have you attacked much in the past? (i am learning here)
- Carlos Ayala
@Carlos - only a couple of times, usually successful but with low rewards (compared to tasks) - never attacked a lower level spymaster
- John Bradford
As I cleaned out my Twitter followers this weekend and dumped over 1,300 I can follow new users again (yippee!). So taking advice from Alex I'm following anyone who mentioned Spymaster. Particular I've selected to follow only people at level 8 or above. The rate they come in is pretty manageable. See here: http://search.twitter.com/search...
- Kol Tregaskes
Once I get bored with he game, I'll just so another a mass tidy. I know the users I interact with on Twitter so dumping these Spymaster users will be easy. I found the cull quite liberating yesterday anyway. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Other than doing a visual compare & contrast with your twitter follower list, and isn't available to be converted - is there anyway to see who is in your spy network? It'd be really good to know who the high levels are to coordinate attacks on other spy rings.
- John Bradford
John, yeah I'd like to see a list too.
- Kol Tregaskes
it would be nice if they show more stats about the spymaster you are trying to attack like their attack Sum & Defense Sum
- zsafwan
Nah, then that takes the risk (and the fun) out of it. The stats on view are fine but the results need to be less random. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Would love to see this excellent example more widely applied - PC Plod in the UK perhaps? Makes a change from that awful Police Camera Action nonsense.
- John Bradford
I've just done a search for Imaginary Friends and hasn't turned up anything particularly helpful, slowly rebuilding my twitter groups from Tweetdeck in FF groups....
- John Bradford
Imaginary friends were dropped with the new UI.
- Pete Gilbert
Adding yourself under these terms only helps if you have tons of followers as it ranks by that metric, I understand. The question is, does this DB have value? I haven't put myself on there.
- Louis Gray
I added myselft awhile ago... I've noticed no difference. I think people go there and submit themselves but no one ever goes there to find someone to follow
- andy brudtkuhl
Louis exactly - I see a lot of people adding themselves, but I don't see anyone actually using it to find new people.
- Jesse Stay
Jesse: I bet you are correct. Moving the needle over on Twitter is tough. I'm never sure what gets people to follow or try someone out?
- Robert Scoble
Thomas: I'm concerned about anytime you create a list. That almost always leads to gaming behavior. But, on the other hand, I'd like a list too. What I really want is to be able to share my lists of people with you. That way I can be the curator of a tech news makers list, for instance. You could then keep a photography list. Etc Etc.
- Robert Scoble
Robert, sharing lists would be great. You could bulk follow that way as well. But I do highlight ten FriendFeeders every month on the blog.
- Louis Gray
Louis: I know, but I think something like Alltop would be great, only with multiple curators and bundles for each topic type.
- Robert Scoble
scoble the curator. more like scoble the librarian. oh wait... :P
- Brian Daniel Eisenberg
Robert, I'd bet at least 50% of the following is to try and get more followers back. The other 40-50% are trying to find interesting people.
- Jesse Stay
Jesse: I met someone last week who actually is only interested in following celebrities.
- Robert Scoble
Sometimes Robert, I am really talking to those who follow you and not really talking to you. :)
- Louis Gray
Game behavior can make boring pointless things fun. Or it can make interesting activities irresisitable. Robert sharing and engaging is a form of game behavior. Well at least it looks fun to me. The scoble game consists of many parts. Search for new tech, new biz models, and more efficient/effective social connections Iphone app potential...
- Mark Essel
do you know if their is a complete up to date twitter directory out there? would be nice if twitter offered that with some filters for geo-location etc and even activity level (ie. show inactive users for last 6 months). dont think the api exposes global data like this though.
- sull
I haven't talked to you at all Robert, apart from yesterday's comment. But as soon as you followed me on FF (on which I am not very active, except for reading your discussions), 11 min later Steve Cadwell also followed. Hihi!
- Gunnar Engblom
I'd like a better way to find people on FriendFeed interested in photography and art. Especially new users. Right now that's not an easy way to do this.
- Thomas Hawk
Thomas... you can join/create a group for photography and art, and follow people who post interesting content to that group.
- Blake
Blake, I'm a member of some of those groups. But, only a small percentage actually join them. If FF let us submit our interests a much more efficient directory could be created. Heck, even a wefollow for friendfeed could do a better job I think.
- Thomas Hawk
Also we are developing a Law Practice simulation system using SharePoint that allows tutors to run simulations of different case scenarios and monitor student's individual and group performance. Early pilot was successful, we intend to release it as a possibly commercial service once it is complete.
- Pete Gilbert
Yeah -- it's linking to FB, Twitter, email etc. -- so people can import those contacts. And I hear lots of people are leaving Twitter or something like that....
- Larissa Fair
MBA stands for "More Bullshit than Anyone else" I have one and its pointless. Entrepreneur has More Bollocks than Anyone else. The risk in starting a business is huge both financially, personally (family, reputation). MBA is training by reading and entrepreneur is a lesson learned at the school of hard knocks. An MBA never learns rule 101 in business - never run out of cash. etc
- sam sethi
agreed, the MBA's I've knowingly worked with haven't been anywhere near as exiting as the entrepreneurs (though the two aren't mutually exclusive anyone with "MBA" on their business card is off to a bad start with me)
- John Bradford
makes me wonder - can you teach entrepreneurship? I don't think you can - it's an attitude, a perspective on life, not a skill that can be learnt. Someone with sound commercial experience should be brought into a startup once it is running to ensure that it is managed right - I am not sure that the people who have the vision to start companies have he skills to keep them going. There's a need for both, is what I'm saying.
- Nigel
I did half an MBA and did it backwards. I learnt a lot, but perhaps not what was intended.
- Tim Penn
Face to face tutor time? That's mostly for the Oxford/Cambs of this world, for the rest there are lots of web2.0 alternatives to University. How about all the blogs, twitter streams, FF conversations with real entrepreneurs & business leaders (rather than teaching academics), how about BarCamps, SkillSwaps, IRC, etc for software types, and if you *need* a piece of paper, how about the OpenUniversity? Sounds like quite a few alternatives. :)
- John Bradford
