I'm looking for recommendations for screen sharing + teleconference software that would be suitable for extending a wordpress meetup to allow for the presence of offsite participants. Ideally cross-platform, low or no cost, minimal signup/install, scalable to potentially a few dozen simultaneous participants, and recordable.
how do you interact? video / IM / personal cursor?

Cristo, screen sharing (one presenter at a time) + voice. The big failing point in this setup is the quality of most speakerphones. Everyone on the bridge can hear each other just fine, and everyone in the room can hear each other just fine. The room can usually hear the bridge, but the bridge often has a hard time hearing the room. Net result is that most people on the call drop off when any presentation portion is over and discussion begins.

After experienceing my first ffundercats episode a couple weeks bakc, I was very impressed with ustream, which is free. and you can password-protect it, and not just anyone can watch. There are instructions about getting other voices onto the feed - I believe they involve Skype.
- MaryB, BrandingBroadOfFF
So you would recommend listening to ffundercats?
- Cristo
gotomeeting is pretty nice, Yugma is another--supports Linux.
- Mac64
My experience is that "live streaming" sites like justin,tv and ustream have much lower quality than web conferencing tools. If we decide to do this (we may not, it's a bit of a hassle) we'll probably end up using dimdim.com. If we decided that having an 800 number for call-in was important, then I'd go with gotomeeting or webex
- Jason Wehmhoener
I was pleasantly surprised with DimDim, Webex is nice when it works but can be erratic.
- Sally Church
Yes, I use webex daily for work. I'd say it is fairly reliable, except when it isn't! Seems like the few days right after a big update always brings some instability until they get the bugs out.
- Jason Wehmhoener
Needs to support screen sharing, so Wiziq won't work.
- Jason Wehmhoener
Cristo, yes, I would - although the last two weeks I've forgotten it was on Friday night - I kept thinking it was on Saturday. Then I was dismayed to find I'd missed it! But it's great fun.

Is it possible to listen to FFundercats without Josh Haley and Johnny Worthington? Those guys are tools. :)
- Cristo
Is it possible to post anything to Friendfeed without getting non-sequitur comments from Cristo?
- Jason Wehmhoener
I've seen tinychat used with a couple dozen participants from various locations, but of course, ymmv. Just adding to the list. I've been impressed with dimdim lately, too. The price is certainly right for both of them, but as with many things, you often get what you pay for (and rarely more).
- abacab
Even when you pay, Webex, which I am all too familiar with, has its quirks.
- Jason Wehmhoener
ustream works well for public meetings, using a screen capture program. tinychat has a built in screen sharing option

drop.io and talkyoo (like skype but not voip, and you can have people calling from mobilephones)
- alex
I would use mikogo.com and talkyoo.net together. Free and easy and very professional. talkyoo allows international telefon conferences (7 countrys + skype) at fixed line prices (near 0 for most people ;-)) Mikogo is a free Desktop sharing software. Very powerfull and easy to use.

Eh...I'm ok. Needed to take a little time off to find myself, but I tell you, I feel the same way Akiva does. With that, I'm trying to keep it together. Any cute boys around? DM me. ;)

I am HONGRY (yes, 2 steps past just hungry). I think I might drown my sorrows in lasagna and post it to FF for all to enjoy =D

I think Tuesday is shaping up to be a stellar day. How are you? It's been too long since we've broke bread

I'm good for the most part. This is the last week of school so I'm hoping all my grad students actually graduate. I'm glad to see everyone, even with the recent acquisition news. Jason, I think Anna is plotting something for this weekend.
- Derrick
NOT in the pink of health(mental as well). But getting better...
- अभिषेक(Abhishek) Das
Abhishek, I hear you. And I hope that you feel better real soon.

In a funk w/ no one to talk to about it... the rug's being pulled out from underneath me and I haven't quite figured out how I'm going to land
- Tracy Ruggles
I'm pretty good thanks, I think it's the Extreme Chocolate Mini Cookies talking though.
- Steve C
Yes please. Steve, momma told you to share.
- Derrick
Tracy, I feel the same way. I'm trying to be positive about it, but there's also a part of me that thinks we're just going to be flat out abandoned. Which typically is a problem for me. Baard, you're just ok? Your lovely pictures of your daughter tell me something different. Hi Abby. Thanks for the kind words.
- Derrick
Hi D. We had a heck of a party in the Reggae room yesterday. Not much else happening... what's new with you?
- Adrian
Same ole, Adrian. Trying to get through this last week of school and all.
- Derrick
ok. Cuddling with kittehs, planning a party for saturday (which means food planning!!!!), and writing my dissertation. Could be better (the diss could be done), could be worse (the world could be imploding).
- Katy S
Awesome! One of my better birthdays and so very glad to be sharing it w/ so many other ppl! :)
- JA Castillo
In true, deep denial. I've been in the land of goodbyes for a while and I can't take anymore. Lasagna sounds like just the thing-- with a side of cookies, please. Missed you.

I am feeling groovy and funk-o-licious at current moment. I just got to work - I was in San Francisco for the past 5 days, working a trade show. I took a shuttle to the parking lot to fetch my recently resurrected Camry. Luggage stowed. Mirrors checked. Keys in the ignition. Turn keys......*click, click, click*....nothing.....nothing other than the clicking. So I try again.....*click, click*....If you heard a distant yell at noon today that sounded like 'FAHHHHHHHK!!!!', that was me, from the LAX area....
- Morgan Haley
I took the elevator down to the ground floor, while mumbling curses against my mechanic and all his kin...I found the shuttle attendant and inquired about the portable jumpstarter he kept in the office. He smiled and told me to meet him at the car. He shows up, hooks the kit to the car. We chat for 5 - 7 minutes while the battery charges. We speak of life, love, and the many wonderful things that Los Angeles offers us every day......He tells me to try and start the car....I get in, turn the key, and.......
- Morgan Haley
'.....vroom!' The car starts!!! HOO to the Mother Fucking RAY! Hell YES! I am saved! I thank my new hero and offer him a small monetary token of my appreciation (small, yes. but significant when you look at my current financial state). He respectfully declines the offer. I insist. He gives in and accepts it. We shake hands and part ways. I drive down 7 floors, hop on the freeway, and head to work, arriving at 2pm......and now I'm sleepy, stinky and staring at 700 new emails in my inbox that need clicking.
- Morgan Haley
I'm feeling groovy and funk-o-licious, minus the interesting story.

Shopping for perfect birthday out. Enjoying the end of my Summer vaca. 2 bad u couldn't meet up for happy hr. The more the merrier.

So long story longer......I am sending out my appreciation and much love and respect to my hero of the day: 'Maxwell', from the Airport Center Parking located at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Los Angeles. Maxwell works the pickup / drop off area there, staying on top of everything shuttle-related. He is a tall, good looking black man, with a gold/yellow uniform polo shirt from the QwikPark Parking and Shuttle company that officially employs him. If your are ever in the area and need a place to park, he's the man
- Morgan Haley
Maxwell - If you read this, or can feel it through the cosmic funkiness of the universe, I want to again say 'Thank you!' There aren't enough people like Maxwell in the world. People that understand that we ALL will have days when we need to lean on others to remain standing. The jumpstarter kit he used is his personal unit. The garage doesn't have their own. It's not bone marrow or a kidney, but Maxwell made a special effort to try and help a fellow Angeleno. He saved me money and helped me get to work.
- Morgan Haley
Why do I say all of this? Because, in my experience, limited as it may be, I've seen our FF friend 'Derrick' do nothing but be kind, witty, informative, inspirational, comforting, supportive, entertaining, patient and charming. He reaches out to us when he needs an ear, a shoulder, an idea or opinion. He gives 100 times more support than he ever asks for himself. So Derrick, here's your answer: "I am great today. I am lucky to have an opportunity to interact with quality human beings such as you."
- Morgan Haley
Hrm. The only part of smoking i was ever addicted to was the physical act of inhaling and exhaling smoke. If someone could get me non-harmful non-addictive cigarettes, I'd be stoked. I'd chain smoke. These things though? Just...ew.

all they need to do now is market it to kids and then just flavor it and add the liquid to red bull directly. yum, caffeine and nicotine. Something else for the lobbyists to make money on, now that they can't work for the banks. hehe
