"Better yet, maybe record companies could sell music directly online to consumers since they spend so much time in the Internet already! (Note: sarcasm.)" - John F Morton

This is spot on.Unfortunately communities are very strange animals. They resist change at all cost. Specially after all the effort put in establishing relationships that can't be ported over, people will stick with Twitter for a long time. - Jorge Escobar
they are down again it seems. Right now because of "overload"! - Scott Lockhart
Finally, someone who agrees with me. We shouldn't have to accept this level of service - Bwana
More press (bad or good), more traffic. More traffic, more loyalty. Twitter will never die this way. - AJ Batac
I think Jorge Escobar is right. I don't expect Twitter's community to move away quickly. We early adopters went there because we're early adopter and love to try new things. Now that it's catching on though, the majority of people are there because of the other people that are there. Momentum, well, more precisely, inertia, is in Twitter's favor. - John F Morton
When will investors force management change -- or is it too late? - Brian Sullivan
Twitter is the Teflon web service. This will be ancient history a week from now. - Mike Doeff
but there is a friendfeed for all twitter fans ... - Klaus Eck
Well, instead of going to the network error, we are now seeing the Whale. I suppose that is progress...of a sort. - Justin Whitaker
Same here. With this level of up time, they're really giving a boost to your fave here at Friend Feed. - John F Morton
Why spend more time investing in Twitter as a system at all? I mean when Twitter's working you get it all here. When it's up you can still broadcast with that Twitter megaphone if need be, but why not invest your time developing the actual conversations here instead. Twitter simply is not designed for conversations, FF is. It's not just about the reliability, FF is simply a better platform. - Thomas Hawk
@Thomas we're still missing XMPP and SMS - that's a huge advantage for Twitter. - Steve Rubel
I'm sure some of that will come in time Steve, but I'm not convinced in the value of XMPP or SMS. I know some people use those features, I've always had them disabled personally. There is not much coming from FF or Twitter that I think has the level of urgency necessary for XMPP or SMS. - Thomas Hawk
@Thomas I use it to publish but not receive. But you're right when you look at things like Mail2FF. - Steve Rubel
@Klaus, Steve is right. XMPP and SMS broadcast still has to be included at FriendFeed. ;-) - AJ Batac
OMG, Twitter is down, twitter is down!! Watch this video, it's funny as hell http://tinyurl.com/63zpt3. Every time twitter is down i think of that, LMAO!! - David Cole
Twitter down again huh?....now there's a surprise! - Emma
Mkes me angry that they didn't fix it up yet.... - Isabelle Lopez
.. and look at the top ads that come up on the right. We still have a long way to go. Advertisers seem to think homosexuality is still about pornography and promiscuity. Most of the gay couples I know are house owning 2 income folks that go to the movies and worry about the same thing straight couples do. It's offensive. - Brandon Werner
@Brandon, at least you get ads. Googling "black" doesn't return any ads at all. However we are told a related search is "black jokes." Well, at least there's no ads for fried chicken 'n malt liquor. Progress! (raises Black Power fist) - Karim
aww, that is cute. I like that. they need to do that for some other searches @Brandon, agreed about the ad content, but I love that rainbow, that's nice. - Kamilah Gill
I searched for "straight" and... nothing. :-) - Louis Gray
@Brandon W: didn't notice that. yeah, not so great. not to plug, but you're not supposed to see that on Yahoo! search. because we don't consider "gay" by itself an adult term. and...Karim strikes again. - edythe
As the only Gay in the Village (whoever gets that reference gets a virtual kiss), I find the rainbow flag pretty obnoxious. In fact, I burned one once in some frakin performance piece. But that's just me. BTW how did I miss this thread? - Rick Powell
They do it for other stuff too, i saw a link off Google saying why they use the colours and other stuff. - Nicholas James
“Are you using some client to post to FriendFeed or just go to main website? Or do you use something elso to track conversations? Is there mobile client for FF? Any more tips for beginners and more experienced users?”
when at home i use twhirl. when at a job site, i use the ff site. i do like the twhirl. - sean808080
I was using twhirl and I think it is the best client I've ever tried for following ff in realtime (and now it supports ff groups, too), but at the moment I use MySocial 24x7 as Firefox-Sidebar. Pros are that it is right in firefox and provides the possibility to post answers to twitter. I don't have it open all the time and so space is no issue and when I want to read more than just the last few items there are handy navigation buttons in MySocial. This last feature seems to be quite unique (at least in twhirl and Alert thingy I can't see this feature). - Michael Hamann
i have twhirl, but i prefer the web interface. - Jansen Lu
I use its web interface because it is still cleaner than any other implementation. - Leon Ho
Posting from the website seems to be the most detailed way, allowing you to easily pick what feed/room to put it in... - Anthony Farrior
@Leon it's quite difficult to create a clean and well organized interface. i think twhirl is doing a quite good job. - Jansen Lu
I can't stand twirl. friendfeed is about the details. I don't need to sit and watch the stock tickertape. I feel bad for Alisters that are forced to see this silly blur of social interaction. (sorry about the curse before... I edited my comment) - ⓃⓄⒶⒽ ⒹⒶⓋⒾⒹ ⓈⒾⓂⓄⓃ
To post blog posts to ff I use the Shareaholic extension b/c I can also post to every social site I want using it. If I want to follow posts and post normally, I just use the web app. - Joseph Z.
I'm using the web apps. Twhirl has never worked properly on either of my iMac Desktop's. The client option is a great concept and in my experience, poorly implemented. - Paul W. Swansen
I've tried Twhirl and Alert Thingy. I've got mixed feels about both. I find myself using the Web site more regularly for posting to FF. To just manage Twitter, I will probably use Twhirl or Twitterrific, but adding FF to the mix (with Twhirl only) makes for quite a lot of screen real estate devoted to these widgets. - John F Morton
i´m currently using twhirl, its a nice interface for getting the friendfeed-updates, but it seems a little bit buggy - Christoph Bauer
via twhirl
There really isn't a client that does FF justice yet. Bonus points to twhirl guys for trying though. Anyway, on OSX just use Fluid ( www.fluidapp.com ) to create a SSB (single site browser) that behaves as a regular app, a menu bar extra or even embedded into your desktop. Quite simply it rocks hard, and is free. Fluid has a room here ( http://friendfeed.com/rooms/fl... ). - John Samuelson
I'm still mostly using Friendfeed's web interface. - Morton Fox
When I use the bookmarklet for FF, even though I'm signed into FF, I need to re log in for each site. I have to look up my complicated password each time. Pain. It might be the same issue, but I can't then choose which feed to share with. That only appears when I share a page on FF itself. Any help appreciated. - John F Morton
I believe this move will destroy many future innovations online. It might not stop many current services we have now, but many services that would have come out with the expectation of unlimited bandwidth for their customers will definitely rethink launching. VCs will be less likely to support another YouTube type of service (in terms of bandwidth requirements). - John F Morton
