“Has anyone else jumped on either Plurk or Indenti.ca ? Twitter still has most people but the conversation is dying there as people can only really use the web page to stay up to date. Thoughts on the future of micro-blogging / status update services?”
July 3 at 8:54 am - Link
I'm on both. identi.ca is weird. There's no good way to find people. Plurk = ugly but I like the timeline feature. - Johnny Baker
I just wish twitter could complete it's upgrades and have things running fast and easy - it would even take the pressure off feeling like I have to use friendfeed like twitter/microblogging... - Tony
I have accounts on all, but Twitter is still king because as Tony says, it still has the most people. I have been able to find a good number of church leaders to follow, however, I would like to see a way of being able to track tweets that are ministry related and have good ministry ideas, comments & discussions without wading through all the usual "eating a sandwich" type of posts.. - Allen Blair

“New policy -- when I want to post a link and Twitter is down, I'll post it on FF instead.”
July 1 at 8:55 pm - Link
I have been using FF more and twitter less and I am liking it more - Dave Gray
cool... i've got FF set as my start page right now - Adam C.
if I could import from FF to Twittet it would be a perfect solution. - Johnny Baker
JB, that would be easy to do. - Dave "Maverick" Winer
Dave, why not skip Twitter entirely. With FriendFeed you can choose a cool graphic to go with your link. You can't do that with Twitter. Really FF is a superior platform. - Thomas Hawk
I actually prefer to post links on Friendfeed. On Friendfeed, I don't have to use a URL shortener. - Morton Fox
jump to the end: post to FF first. these days it seems you'd be right more often than you are not... - Russell Holliman
Thomas it's the people. There are a lot of people who use Twitter who don't use FF. It's only geeks here near as I can tell. I don't think the people here are all that interested in some of the things I'm interested in. And there are a lot more idiot Republicans here. I like intelligent people and there aren't too many smart folk who are willing to admit to being Republican these days. So you're pretty much left with the slimedogs. Present company excepted of course. :-) - Dave "Maverick" Winer
I'd go FF first. Most conversations of value based on the link will happen here anyway. - Duncan Riley
I'm using FF differently than Twitter. I follow many fewer here and am being followed by many fewer. I like the intimacy, talking mostly with people I actually know in most cases. At Twitter I have many followers and use it to get more viewership of a new blog post. - shelisrael1
You can always post on twitter first, and import it in ff. - Jacob
why would you want to post to twitter directly? - Sean Savage
Duncan and Thomas have it right. You always have the option of using Twitter but participating in Friendfeed returns more. I use both as many do (but hide and just occasionally look at the Twitter posts to avoid overload). It's getting better each week. Simply a matter of how YOU choose to set it up. - Charlie Anzman
I have advanced degrees and an IQ of 135; I've been a highly successful educator at both the secondary and collegiate levels. But because I identify with the Republican party, I'm an idiot according to Dave Winer. - Gregory Pittman via fftogo
Gregory... That extra 4 points I have on you in the IQ stakes must be the part that accounts for sarcasm, humor and the ability to know that generalisations are rarely accurate... - John Worthington
@John - or the part that does reading comprehension, since Gregory obviously failed to parse "a lot more", "not too many", and "pretty much". - Jeremy Raines
watch out, this policy made me fell in-love with FriendFeed... - Orli Yakuel
Enjoy! Some Hebrew Love. http://tinyurl.com/6jwkf6 - Igor The Troll
Cool. That way Twitter can stay up. ;-) - Vic Podcaster
idiot republicans? slimedogs? Even though I'm a democrat I find broad sweeping statements like that to be problematic. I'd like to think that I'm more open minded than that. I also think that politics are not the only thing to talk about in the world and think that gauging someone's intelligence or the value of their conversation by their political party affiliation is, well, pretty idiotic. - Thomas Hawk
Getting back to the subject, why not start posting here first anyway? - David Weiner
Thomas is one of an ever-decreasing number of people from all points of the political spectrum for whom disagreement on issues doesn't degrade to personal attacks. Thomas and I might disagree on what the problems are and what the solutions to those problems are, but we would be able to have a valuable conversation. I appreciate that very much. - Gregory Pittman
I usually do it on both. - Thejesh GN
it's funny how Americans can feel in their stomach being part of Rep or Dems, when the whole world knows deep in their stomach that there is not a glinch that diferentiate both parties a part from the color of the tie, i'm not saying we are better in Europe or elsewhere, i'm saying we're all screwed, - Ben Borges
@Ben yeah democracy sucks that way... naturally breeds moderate points of view - Rubin Sfadj
Good policy! I'm starting to followthat too. - Shannon Low via twhirl
is it still democracy ? i'v seen bush with a "christian cruz" on his back while speaking on tv, (terrorist) for me it's middle age democracy. - Ben Borges
I am trying to do this too, but my friends aren't actively using FF yet. - Michelle Lentz
Starting on FriendFeed today. Put me down as an AFTU (Another Frustrated Twitter User). - Michael E. Rubin
I'm using ping.fm to do this. - Gary Walter
that's been my policy of late...i can't even follow ppl on twitter today - Sarah Perez
I actually prefer to use Twitter for less important messages and FriendFeed for stuff when I want to generate conversation. The idea behind my logic is that some people, to reduce the noise, block all tweets, as they consider tweets less important. I agree with these folk, so I use Twitter for stuff that they're probably not interested in. - possible248 via NoiseRiver

It would be great if TESLA designed a car for everyone else. Most people can't afford to pay $60,000 - $100,000 for a car. - Michael Tefft
Yeah...lets get these cars in a more reasonable price range please. - Paul Wade
Hasn't Honda announced that they will have a line of all electric cars by 2010? I would think that they would want to get this released before the major makers start releasing theirs. - Van Van Noy
Yo quiero Tessla - Harry Myhre
I expect their third model to be ~$35K. They're starting with exotic/luxury models by design, but they want to eventually be competitive with the Prius. (Of course, the Chevy Volt may exist by then...) - Watts Martin

It could make the implementation of cross-site information (ie data portability, "bringing the social graph with you") much easier for a majority of sites. And it would take "mashups" to a whole new level, even within some of the core web services. - Tony

@Scoble: let me know what you think. I know you use FF a lot on your phone, and you are quite a power user, so I have a feeling you will have a strong opinion and/or notice things we left out. - Bret Taylor

I know you guys aren't out to compete with twitter directly, but putting that post text box at the top of the interface removes my last reason for twittering. - Robin Barooah
looks great but interested to know why you chose to remove the hide function. It would seem well suited to mobile browsing and removing the noise a little more on the small screen - Jon Dillon
Awesome job; renders well on my phone (a Moto Q9c) too - Benjamin Golub
Wish I had an iPhone :( - directeur via NoiseRiver
@Jon: You're right, we should add that back in. - Bret Taylor
renders perfect. clicking youtube videos just work as intended... Here's a quick request. Search is at the bottom and scrolling endlessly to reach is a bit boring. Can you guys insert an anchor for a quick access to page bottom? And another anchor there for teleporting back to top. - Berk D. Demir via twhirl
Niiiice! Thanks guys.:) - m.0
Perfect for the sidebar of Firefox - João Almeida via twhirl
again, enjoy the pic :) and the interface even more! - MG Siegler
Very nice. I'm also posting from my iPhone. FF lends itself well to mobile use. - Chris Baskind
The anchor to jump to the bottom would be nice. Tip: On any web page you can tap the 'status bar' at the top of the screen to jump up to the top of the page. - Kevin Fox
Bret, trying it now. - Robert Scoble
Hhhhhhhhhoooooolllllllyyyyyyyyyyy jjjjiiiiiimmmmmmmmmyyyyyy. This is cool. 15 Likes for FF team! - Robert Scoble

I don't want to take credit for this or anything, but I just did ask about this today. I'm kidding by the way. - Johnny Baker
This works REALLY WELL in a sidebar or Fluid App site specific browser. WAY better than the googlegadget URL we've been using. This interface in Fluid is my new favorite way to interact with FriendFeed. It's teh Awesome! Thanks! :-) - Josh Bancroft
this is AWESOME - posting from my touch! - Charles Hudson
Excellent. Works like a charm. - Jonathon
A much needed improvement. This will be awesome on a 3G iPhone as well. - Chris Rodgers
i'd still like to see the Comment/Like buttons made a little bit easier to hit. They have close proximity to the article link and using a finger isn't as accurate as a cursor. - Jamie
Congrats. This "just works". - Amir Gharaat
Yeah, I just started using friendfeed today and can't see how you guys/gals did without this spiffy interface. Rocks! - Christopher Medina
It looks fantastic, thanks guys it's a great job. FriendFeed is now even more useful. - fbrunel
I would love the option to run links through the Google transcoder. FFtoGo has that and it's invaluable. - Steve Rubel
You can also use http://tiltview.com to view the iPhone version of the site from your computer or other mobile phones . You need to select iPhone as a mobile type. - seman
Love it! As soon as I open up the MBP I'm going to fire up Fluid.app and make a menu app with the iPhone interface. - Ryan Cates
Seesmic videos could theorically been played on an iPhone. The Seesmic API also provides a link to the video in MP4, that's would be awesome to do that in the FriendFeed iPhone interface. - fbrunel
@semen just use http://friendfeed.com/i on your desktop browser, FluidApp, etc. No need to emulate the iPhone browser. - Josh Bancroft
Why do the "comment" and "like" links the load after the rest of the page? I almost missed them with EDGE's slow data. - Frankie Warren
awesome! Anyone else want a bit more space around the "comment" and "like" links? I mis-poked on my first attempt. - Kelly Norton
So awesome, great work! I love it. I'm sure you're aware but longer (horizontally) posts, such as those with multiple photos, do funky things to the layout. - Jake
@Jake, et al: we will do some work for posts with a lot of media to make it work better. Thanks for the feedback. - Bret Taylor
It looks like the UAT testing with Scoble and team worked marvelously well - nice job Bret!! :*) - Susan Beebe

I am back to the old version too. I miss Everyone tab, Search, and Hide features - Robert Scoble
i agree with one of the comments. why a separate blog to capture comments - get them all using FF. easier to follow discussion. iphone interface looks great - i think i'm going to find myself using it a lot on my phone - naveen
need's hide. - Thomas Hawk
Awsome! It just needs search and it would be perfect! As far as the old interface went, it was pretty good for the iPhone as well. - darnell
@Scoble: thanks for the feedback. They were known problems, but I think we can find the space to fit them in. Search is at the botto of every page, FYI. - Bret Taylor
Very nice. Much prefer it to FFtogo ... - Patrick Jordan
Very nice. However, on the iPhone it's very easy to jump to the top of the page (just tap the top bar) and very hard to get to the bottom of a long page (lots of scrolling). Can search be moved to the top? - Stephen Mack
Very nice. Makes it much more useful on my iPhone. Like the picture option... - simonpure
I agree with Stephen about "search". It's been quite the workout on the thumbs. - m.0
Like the FF iPhone site, wish they would implement the same "hide" options as the full FF site. - Joe Perrin

well, AIR is released as an Alpha version for Linux, and you can run twhirl there. There might be some issues, but it is usable. - Marco Kaiser via twhirl
@Rosana I've been using twhirl in ubuntu and it works great; I had some problems with previous versions but the latest works smoothly. - Andrés David Aparicio via twhirl
Thanks Marco and Andrés for the comments! I will try it out tomorrow! - Rosana Kooymans
Use twhirl and like the features but not crazy about the UI. When I go back to Twitterific, which I often do because twhirl is not all that stable, I breathe a sign of relief. Ah, white space! Ah, DMs, replies, normal tweets, my tweets all at a glance look different! Ah, Growl support and nice sounds. Really hate the notifications in twhirl. Feature set superior; user experience, not so much. - Rick Powell
@Loic I've left a similar comment on various friendfeed links on a couple of occassions before. Before friendfeed on twitter is considered usable, that bug about comments getting eaten up half-way through typing them needs to get fixed pronto. I tend to type long verbose comments and its incredibly frustrating when the comment just dissappears. Apparently happens when the feed gets refreshed or or other refresh events.
