"What you're looking at it is a 17,000 push-pin mosaic mural, a product of three revisions and a total of two and a half semesters of work. The final revision took a whopping two months of work by the CIS Student Association at the University of the Fraser Valley, and it's currently sitting in the Student Computing Center over there."

The exhibition Letters and Ligatures showcases recent work from the Delaware-based type foundry House Industries. If you're in LA, the show at Subliminal Gallery will run untill December 5th.

"For the past few months I’ve been an active member of Twine.com; a beta semantic web app riddled with AI to help us organize, share and discover information. The beta is still under heavy construction, but at this point in time, I’ve migrated entirely from Del.icio.us, personal wikis and similar online services and over to Twine. There are several reasons for this, some of which I’ll detail here — and end by hinting at why it’s immediately relevant despite Twine being in an invitation-only beta."

"Traditionally, computer games have been blamed for the growing obesity crisis, which has left almost one in four British adults extremely overweight. Critics say that the games encourage sedentary lifestyles and divert children away from playing more physically demanding games like football or rounders. However, some scientists are beginning to say that Nintendo Wii games, in which players holding joysticks mimic the actions involved in sports to control an on screen character, can be a good way of keeping fit. Sports scientists at the University of Derby will begin the research to see if time spent on the console - controlled remotely by players' physical movements - can help primary school pupils lose weight."

I heard a rumor gym class might help too
- RAPatton
+10 for your last comment. I thought the point of making kids go to school was to learn good habits not use the fallbacks. Essentially, we can make them go to gym
- Lindsey is Fierce!
I think using tools that will hold a child's interest for more than 5 minutes can help.I'm a bit torn on this. Its different growing up these days. Kids are no longer *that* familiar with playing outside and running around - given the tools they have at their disposal indoors (ie PS3, XBOX, Wii, etc etc). Unless of course their folks encourage exploring and play outdoors. (Which is also why I love seeing photos of your boys playing outside, RAP. Children need more of that exposure for fun and for...

@Melissa -- I think building fundamental and effective habits early is more important. Generally, using the Wii as a serious fitness device is for gamers (like myself) who have fallen into serious bad habits of immobility and laziness. It's meant more as a platform to get things started back in the right direction.
- Lindsey is Fierce!
I like that they are moving when they use the Wii(Santa was in line a cold December 2 years ago) but you have to do more. Organized sports helps, but I hate how they rob kid time, and I am glad they play outside.
- RAPatton
RAP - at what age did you decide to buy the boys their first gaming console?
- Melissa
Christmas baby!!!! i have a date with the Wii, zelda here i come

Gym class was a giant waste of time when I was in school. Take a 40 minute class, pad 7 minutes on both ends for time to get changed, and another 5 minutes for attendance, BSing, and explanation - and you'd be left with 20 minutes of activity, invariably half of which was spent just standing around.
- Eric P
I bought them a game cube when their grandmother died three years ago. They were 5 and 7 and on the verge of 6 and 8. The trouble is, when you give something to the older child, the younger one gets it too, but it has been a good experience.

I can only imagine the amount of people that will have the same costume tonight. Don't you realize that EVERYONE else is going to be dressed that way?
- James Ferguson
Oh the Batmans are going to feel this one.
- Mark Trapp
This ep was friggen hilarious. Last week's BSG/Dumbledore was even funnier
- Josh Haley
Creed was definitely the best. Totally creepy.

That's just it; it's not the /survivors/ choice. If I put it up on my wall, that's my wall and noone is forced to come to my home. If I wear it out, it's forcing viewership.

'Justice League: The New Frontier', the animated movie based on Darwyn Cooke's mini-series from DC Comics, will premiere on Cartoon Network on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 9 p.m. (ET/PT). - http://www.mania.com/justice...
If you have not seen it, I highly recommend it; it is a very stylish story told in retro art about the time period between the end of WWII and Kennedy's New Frontier speech

Curses! That means it will take at least a few more months to get to India. Sharing to CBG.

my 8 year old son loves Justice League. It was one of my favorite cartoons as a kid as well.
- Thomas Hawk
Thomas, this cartoon is great, but it is PG-13. A few swears is all, but just so you know. My kids loved it, they were 10 and 8 at the time. I also had read it to them month before. Those pictures are the style of the cartoon and they have great voice talents involved. Lucy Lawless as Wonder Woman, Brooke Shields as Carol Feris, David Boreanaz as Hal Jordan, Neil Patrick Harris as Barry Allen, Kyle MacLachlan as Superman and Jeremy Sisto as Batman
- RAPatton
Great movie. I haven't read the book yet, but it's on my wishlist.
- James Ferguson
mmm i just like the new justice league better, but this was good to
- orionstarr
Hmm, if you haven't read New Frontier, wait, watch the movie, then read. Otherwise, you may find yourself wondering where a lot of the story pieces went. :) The movie will be much more enjoyable for you that way!
- DYKC?™
I really didn't care for the movie much... way too much had to be cut, IMO. The movie just doesn't have the same sense of time and place.
- Roger Benningfield
I agree it is not the same as the graphic novel; I would have loved to have had the Losers and the Challengers in it, but at the same time I thought it hammered in that Superman's greatest ability is his ability to inspire better then graphic novel. I have both, and as animated DVDs go I liked this one a great deal
- RAPatton
Don't get me wrong, I like it a lot. Did make me pause though to think about the 14x return on the cost of making the mold. Lucas you scurvy dog!

Actually, these are all R2 units, except for the yellow one which is an R3 unit. R1s are tall and R4s through R9s look like R2s with different heads. Thank you, Wookiepedia: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki...

I think just one is enough for me =P

"So yes, tonight will be the big debut of the SWCW series on Cartoon Network, but it will also be the introduction of two new recurring characters; two that informed sources say will have their impact as the series develops."

I actually think Barrowman would be pretty good. And he wants it bad if his response to the query at the Comic Con Torchwood panel was any indication.
- Heather Cee
I don't know, Barrowman's acting in last season of Torchwood was pretty dismal...
- heather ♥s fauns on mars.
@heather Yeah, it was! I'm glad someone else said that. But then I watch an episode like "Captain Jack Harkness" and I get all mushy in my tummy. When he's on, he's on. When he's not, he's like a soap opera reject.
