I know it's early, but when you guys find out if it's a boy or a girl, you have to let us know. If it's a boy, we need to send you more stuff!

"Pernil lojano, also known as pernil de chancho, is a typical dish from my hometown of Loja, it is pork marinated in a sauce of bitter orange juice, onion, garlic, achiote, cloves, cinnamon, cumin and panela and slow roasted in the oven for several hours."

besides the orange and achiote, pretty much how I do it
- Michael W. May
I insert lots of whole garlic cloves into small knife slits in the roast also.

Man discovers fire. Round two. Thanks for digging this up, Josh. It's too bad our kids won't have much in the way of shoe boxes of photosensitive substrates to comb through for life's big little moments.
- Micah Wittman
They'll be dealing with CD and DVD-roms that have chipping foil, which is worse. :p
- Josh Haley
and to think that I was always just worried about blowing off a finger.
- Davis Freeberg
Josh, exactly. Try a CD/DVD from your local lending library. We bring home selections for the kids and in recent memory can't recall a single disc that didn't have serious dead zones. Sometimes significant portions of the content is unplayable and you have to go all Choose Your Own Adventure / Mad Libs on the situation to fill in the gaps in the story. It's a new style of home entertainment, really =)
- Micah Wittman
in Texas? I grew up in a county where fireworks are illegal - comfort level for home use has always been low - New Mexico folks do a lot on New Years as well.
- Holly Rae
:D Devil's revenge hot sauce exiting, eh? Did you ever hold a roman candle as it shot out the fireworks? Dance in the middle of a 10k pack? Lit and threw jumping jacks just as it went off? Lotta crazy stuff. I'm thankful for not doing any of that and slightly mortified when my neighbors did. I was never really into fireworks and much less so after 2001 (when the air was nothing but Stephen King's Mist with a pervasive sulfur stench to it).
- Arlan Koizumi
Arlan, yes to all. I have video posted here on FF of me and my brother shooting roman candles, handheld, at each other.

One more year that Robot Santa did not kill me! Perhaps it's time to watch Bender's Big Score...oh, and I think I found the vee of my love in your mosaic! COOL!

YAY! I made it in the picture! 6th row, 8th position from the left (among other places). :-)

happy new year Bret! But please, can you kill that pretty f***in' duck? Thank you so much :) I love you

A good idea, relaxing.Let's be fair, and thank Bret .Biraz olumlu olsak bir şey kaybetmeyiz...Bardak doluyken de,boşken de kırılabilir.Önemli olan kırmamaktır.Sevgi-Saygılarımla...

Leo: I'm hoping some sort of cool black titanium ;)
- metalerik
Laura: yeah, I totally fought the power and got clean at 21. ;)
- metalerik
Jemm: cool! not sure if this is you too but I have a friend that just never tried any of it. It's so rad because he's a total metal head and been in lots of bands that have toured all over the earth. It's a cool example of one way to go. I don't at all think it's wrong to drink or whatever- just if it messes up a person's life and relationships (like for me and even then it's not for me to judge).
- metalerik
thanks again everyone. you guys are the only ones I told. xo FF friends!
- metalerik
congrats. you should be damn proud of yourself ; )
- liladreams
@metalerik: Yeah, never tried for no particular reason. I'm far from metal head, though ;) I'm just a geek who wants to be always in control of himself and able to think clearly in all situations. It's probably harder to give up drinking after trying, like you have done, than not having an idea what's the big deal, anyway :)

"Mophie iPhone credit card reader coming to a CES near you By Vladislav Savov posted Dec 31st 2009 4:19AM iPhone accessory maker and recession antidote regular Mophie is about to make the most buzzworthy move of its short history by offering a credit card reader and accompanying transaction app for the Apple handset. Positioned as a direct competitor to Jack Dorsey's Square iPhone Payment System, Mophie's solution looks to be integrated into an iPhone case -- making it possible to keep the reader on permanently, albeit at a slight cost to your device's aesthetics. The decidedly cube-shaped Square system has a less ergonomic design, but we suspect that the winner (if either of these two succeeds) will be primarily determined by the usability of the app and affordability of the service. Look out for more info to emerge at some point during the maelstrom that will be CES 2010."

Great, but I think that is more useful the iPhone as mobile payments system, not as a card reader

I can't remember what I was reading recently where they used that method. Apparently it's highly effective if done correctly.

So...cheeseburger face? Dare I ask how this came about? :D And I agree with Mo...this pic deserves to be on a card of some sort. :D
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
Amanda, it started out by me saying "say cheese!" and getting her to smile. Somehow "cheese" morphed into "cheeseburger"!
- Rochelle
Ayse, her favorites right now are sweet potatoes, mangoes, banana, and Ritz crackers.
- Rochelle
LOL!!! We say "cheeseburger" in my family too, and that is *exactly* the kind of face we make.
- Anna Haro
Audrey and I have some faves in common. :)
- Ayşe E.
Also note the fact that's she's 11.5 months old and still has NO TEETH. We're going to have to get her some baby dentures soon.
- Rochelle
No teeth? I bit through a bottle nipple at 6 weeks; when my mom noticed she was happy she wasn't breast feeding, bit my development was odd in general.
- RAPatton

No teeth at all, not even bumps or dots or anything!
- Rochelle
Having no teeth is what makes it even cuter :)
- Charlotte M
i wonder if being older will make teething easier or harder for her
- RAPatton
Our kids didn't get teeth until after a year, but it didn't stop them eating whatever we were eating. I still remember Sarah, now 19, eating corn on the cob with two teeth.

I've played around with this and its nice to be able to shut off the connection to the ad server built into a lot of the apps on your phone. Quicker startups...!

I've been fairly open about my illness both here and on Twitter. I'm not so much concerned about here, but Twitter is very mainstream and I don't know if I should continue to post private stuff on there. I personally don't care if others see that I have a mental illness, but I know there may be others who will care. Thoughts?
Yeah, that sucks to have to think about that. I don't care if my friends and family know, but when it comes to work, I'm completely quiet about it. I think people have a misconception about what being bipolar means, it's really unfortunate, but true.
- Georgia Diehl
Georgia - you're exactly right. I say "bipolar" and I think people automatically assume my head's going to spin around.
- Lis
I'm sure you thought of this, but how about keeping your profile private?
- Arlan Koizumi
I'd only talk about it private ff rooms that aren't indexed by search engines
- RAPatton
from iPhone
Exactly Lis!! Some people that I have told think I'm kidding because they say I'm too normal to be bipolar. Um yeah, can you say lots of therapy and a good psych!! :)
- Georgia Diehl
I think RAP has a good recommendation - employers aren't allowed to ask about that stuff, but if they find it online, it can influence them. I have a very good friend who is bipolar - she freely discusses with friends/family, but only in private forums online.
- Jennifer Dittrich
Considering that I'm not employed right or actively looking, I'm not overly worried. My employers in the nanny field have been technologically clueless - they wouldn't know FF if I gave them the url. Twitter, maybe, which is why I'll probably sanitize it once I'm looking for a job. If I happen to look for something where I'll have multiple bosses, I'll probably make my FF private even...

- Lis
Then again, I'd love to blog about the ups and downs of having a mental illness (I'm sure there are other such blogs out there) but how would I do that if I thought an employer could find out?
- Lis
Ever thought of doing a pen (err blog) name?
- CW™
Also you could blog on another site that is not tied to you.
- CW™
CW - I have but I just set up a Tumblr and of course I have it feeding into my Twitter which feeds into here... I could sever the Tumblr feeding because I can't see myself having a "real" blog - I'd get paralyzed at the thought of writing "entries." Tumblr feels comfortable because I can post a lot of different things on there.
- Lis
I spent most of 1996 - 2008 with my Moms bipolar ,suicide attempts etc ,, Ive seen a lot of Emerg Psych rooms for mom .. im very aware of the dangers that come from "not discussing it " Do not be ashamed and dont feel embarassed ... feel free to chat anytime ...
- johnpiercy
LM - As long as you have an outlet you can vent/express yourself to, thats important. If you want to try to post to a Real blog as you put it just speak up. There are some great BP blogs that will post other authors works.

I'd be torn. On the one hand, I wouldn't want to be employed by someone who was going to discriminate based on my condition. On the other, if you need a job, you need a job!
- Mellissa
johnpiercy - I'm so sorry about your mom. I've actually been pretty lucky in that I've only had one REALLY bad period where my illness took over (almost all of 2001-2002). Up until the past few months, I've had little periods of depression, but nothing clinical and then I somehow got kicked into a manic episode earlier this year (I'm beginning to think it started around August) and...

Mellissa - AMEN. I haven't decided what my next steps are going to be work-wise (I was able to save a lot of money with my last job and I've been living off that) but I need to soon.
- Lis
Just a warning - they won't have to go directly to FriendFeed to find the stuff here; Google indexes FF incredibly fast, so if they Google you, FF is likely to come up (unless there are enough other Lis Millers to drown you out). If you're really concerned about it, go private here, too. As for blogging, pseudonymous - you can even be pseudonymous here, if it makes you more comfortable.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF

Jandy - I just changed my name on FF to Lis because I googled the full name and my FF page was the first one to show up.

Your name in quotes will show up in google. I removed my full name about a year ago and stuff still shows ups when I do some searches on me.

If the prospective company that you are looking to work for is willing to discriminate against you because of your illness, are they a company you want to work for??
- Kamala Whitaker
CW - Duh, I'm an idiot. Kamala - HOW RIGHT. I think about other people posting being drunk or hungover and that doesn't seem to be a problem...
- Lis
The stigma that goes with this illness is the problem. It effects peoples opinions. Those that have this illness are protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act, but that doesn't mean people won't discriminate. When you need a job or know you can do the job, its best to keep these things quiet. Unless its going to cause a serious issue at work and/or its completely noticeable...
- CW™
CW - you're right about the stigma and it pisses me off. I've told my former employers (remember, I was a nanny) about my illness six months or so after I started working for them and most were taken aback because I'm "so normal."
- Lis
