"Fear the turtle." I am a librarian. I help college students find stuff. @oajoe Opinions my own. I got my sense of humor from my Dad. Blame him.

Was thinking that Denver should combine the Zombie Crawl with the Marathon today. Now that would be awesome. With these two events going on in two different locations, it is going to be busy downtown.

Why, I am so old, I remember when the library I worked at gave away 1.44mb floppy disks as a prize for finishing an assignment.

As I was walking back to the lib, I was thinking we could hand out 1 or 2 gig flashdrives, then I remembered what the GMU library handed out to winners in 1997. Scale 1,000:1. - Joe
I'm so old I remember seeing the 5" x 8" ones. Good times. - Elizabeth Brown
5" x 8" diskettes? I missed those somehow. I used 8" and 5.25" diskettes, but never 5" x 8" ones. - Walt Crawford
[Edited previous comment: all contemporary optical discs--CD, DVD, Blu-ray, CD-ROM, etc.--are 12cm; the diskettes actually were a little larger, 5.25"] - Walt Crawford
I remember magnetic discs, magnetic films and punch cards :-) - больше, чем ирландцы

I usually hesitate to directly criticize individual publishing decisions but this one has me scratching my head. An article in an Elsevier journal about how libraries celebrate OA week. ARE YOU NOT EVEN PAYING ANY ATTENTION AT ALL. Er, sorry. - John Dupuis

.@micahvandegrift @waltcrawford @gehtsie Yes, @creativelibprac is a very small, but that's ~15 less articles/year going to T&F (most likely)
I believe (hope?) that the future for LIS journals is more like CLP than like an "LIS megajournal"--C&RL and ITAL don't publish hundreds of articles a year either, but add all 100+ gold OA LIS journals together and it starts being pretty viable. (Part of Part 2 of my essay: The Diseconomies of Scale.) - Walt Crawford
Like that title. - Joe
Thanks; I do plan to use it. This came to me as I was going through the third part of the study (the 3,338 DOAJ journals I'm looking at) and noting the many, many reasonably old journals with no APC but also fairly narrow niches and low publication volume. - Walt Crawford
The problem is, I don't have a primary secondary out pitch.
a what? - RepoRat
Some pitchers have a primary secondary pitch, like a slider or a change up. I don't have one. - Joe
So, all we have to do is change the Tenure and Promotion policies for hundreds of institutions. No problem.
