Jolie O'Dell
Also, I gotta say, I'm a huge nerd, and those Intel rockstar ads totally give me a ladyboner. Like, every time.
Ladyboner? *dead* - Mo Kargas
I mean, if this doesn't do it for you, then we have nothing - NOTHING - in common: http://www.youtube.com/watch... - Jolie O'Dell
Hahah that's fantastic :D - Mo Kargas
Unfortunately the Intel ads are fake. The real USB inventor doesn't look anything like that (he's played by an actor). - Robert Scoble
As you know, because you linked to them here: http://www.engadget.com/2009... I think that's bullshit. If they really did treat their geeks so well inside Intel they would put the real people on the ads. - Robert Scoble
I know what I saw and what I've linked to, Robert! =) And yes, there's no reason for them not to include the REAL rockstars... EXCEPT their privacy. As someone who gets threatened, at this point, on a daily basis, I applaud Intel's discretion. I mean, if that's the reason. - Jolie O'Dell
I mean, after being called ugly, a prostitute, a Zionist (wtf?), and having my family threatened, all JUST in this week, I wouldn't want to put my face in an ad, either. - Jolie O'Dell
Oooh, here's a question for Robert: If FriendFeed wanted to put you in an ad, would you consent? - Jolie O'Dell
My understanding was that they asked the real guy and he said he was too busy. That was in a story about the ads a few months ago. - Andrew Leyden from iPhone
Interesting, Andrew! - Jolie O'Dell
Jolie: I doubt it. Andrew: I've heard that actors were used to keep other employees from being jealous. Still, it's a crappy ad because it invalidates the whole premise and I feel lied to. - Robert Scoble
I still like it, because it makes me, as a nerd, feel special. I mean, Santa Claus is a lie, too. =/ - Jolie O'Dell
Robert: You have to admit, even the actor they used wasn't anyone's definition of Hollywood. - Jolie O'Dell
Jolie: it doesn't make me feel special at all. It makes me feel inadequate, like the real people will never get the respect they deserve unless they are played by actors. Plus, do you REALLY want to be treated in the workplace like that? I don't. - Robert Scoble
Robert: I would never! But how do you feel about Justine's or Baratunde's ads on TV? I saw some the other day, and I was able to tell my niece, "Those are my friends!" - Jolie O'Dell
Call it nerd cred... Going H-wood is sad in some ways, but I'm glad that we're getting some recognition, even if it's a bit weird at first, like the Intel nonsense. - Jolie O'Dell
Slippy: Aw, go troll on AdAge. ;) I have a background in advertising, and I halfway agree, but Intel honestly should have used the Real Deal himself, especially considering the captions under the actor's face, unless they were thinking about his privacy. - Jolie O'Dell
Jolie: I like it when my friends make media. :-) Slippy: I don't like most ads for just that reason, but I feel mislead by these ads for some reason where I don't by other ads. Probabl y because I always assumed that the people in them were real. - Robert Scoble
Robert: Yeah, I thought it was real at first too. And I think it's kinda incomprehensible - unless time and security were issues - that they didn't use the real USB co-inventor in the ads. But still. The fact that Intel is excited about some nerd who invented some hardware makes me happy and excited. =) Even if they DID use an actor. - Jolie O'Dell
Jolie: of course they are excited about some nerd. Without the nerd Intel wouldn't exist. - Robert Scoble
And you can't say that we nerds don't like our well-deserved attention, either, Robert. ;) After all, the real co-inventor landed a Conan spot, did he not? - Jolie O'Dell
R: But you're right: What else has Intel got in terms of sex appeal? And isn't that what it's all about in that ad? Making geekdom sexy? Jeez... I guess it worked on me. I feel so played. =/ - Jolie O'Dell
Ha Ha... Those do not air in France... to bad... Guess we're late... again... - Fabrice Epelboin
YouTube, Fabrice! ;) - Jolie O'Dell
And on that note, it's sunrise on the East Coast, and this nocturnal creature is gonna hit the sheets! Night night, everyone! Much love, and thanks for the conversation! - Jolie O'Dell
Great ad... - Hugo Romano
Slippy: yeah, something like that. Although the geeks/nerds still rule the world. Try to start a Facebook without them. - Robert Scoble
(yeah, sunday post, usualy, we're much more serious than that ;-) - Fabrice Epelboin
