Re: Why Does Wikipedia Rank So Highly in Google Search? - http://www.simplyzesty.com/google...
"the authoritative weight given to wikipedia deserves to be an order of magnitude higher than almost any other site on the internet.  Of course if you're looking for esoteric research, individual academic site will be much better, but overall? I never go to wikipedia and then search, but very often select copy online, right click for "search on google", with every intention of clicking on the wikipedia article when it comes up.  I'm sure I'm not alone in that." - Jonathan

Re: Does This App Take Citizen Journalism Too Far? - http://www.simplyzesty.com/mobile...
"CNN's iReporters do exactly the same thing, with exactly the same questions - only without getting paid.   This gives some ability to individuals to easily be paid for being in the right place at the right time. I would hate to be a celebrity when anyone with a cell phone can be a money-making paparazzi.  I sat at the table beside Hulk Hogan for dinner on New Year's Eve.  Was there money to be made on that deal?  Who gets sued if I annoy Hulk?  Who gets sued if he punches me in the face?" - Jonathan

"A big blob of gross, but I too was expecting something like the improbably loooooong stip of  packing that came out of a cyst and access I had fixed.  10+ feet of gauze from a little 1/2" slit - like a gross magic trick." - Jonathan
Re: Honey, we have a problem - http://boingboing.net/2011...
"that ultra-clear clover honey is crap - you may as well save money and buy corn syrup.  buy locally produced, minimally filtered natural wildflower honey or find a local flavor you like.  tupelo and orange honey from the southeast are my favorites." - Jonathan
Re: Runnin' Scared - Steven Thrasher - Proud One Percenter: "Have You Ever Heard of Anybody Great That's Come Out of the 99 Percent?" (VIDEO) - http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runnins...
"Song of the South is a cartoon retelling of Joel Chandler Harris' Uncle Remus stories.  The "racism" was in the usage of the dialect that Harris used in telling the original stories that he recorded for posterity. Other Disney "racism" was the anti-german and anti-japanese propaganda of WWII.  It may seem racist in today's eyes, but was not thought to be so by anyone involved in that day and time." - Jonathan
Re: UC Police hit back on protest violence with open letter - http://www.berkeleyside.com/2011...
"I have a hard time buying - "the only reason we beat and pepper sprayed non-violent kids is because we didn't get enough training".  The police should not HAVE equipment for which they haven't received proper training.  The police CLEARLY used too much force, the "some mean kids over there started it" excuse is laughable.  The only question is whether the police used force that was approved by the administration or not." - Jonathan
Re: Preservation Hall Jazz Band: old time jazz from New Orleans - http://boingboing.net/2011...
"Such an institution.  My dad was a huge jazz fan and would haul me to Preservation Hall in the early 70s.  I took my son there a few years ago - I think it still has the same pillows on the floor.  The quarter has pretty much turned into a frat party - a lot of the best music has moved down to Frenchmen Street." - Jonathan

Re: "Stop Forcing Journalists to Conceal Their Views" - http://boingboing.net/2011...
"She wasn't fired for being at the protest.  She was fired for pitching a story, FEATURING HERSELF at the protest.  There is a difference between objective journalism, opinion/commentary and  gonzo journalism and the differences have to be clear in the eye of journalists or they'll never be clear to viewers.   I don't know that she should have been fired - but anyone with a degree in journalism, SHOULD have known that pitching a story with yourself as the subject is called "reality TV"." - Jonathan

Re: Awlaki's 16-year-old son killed by US drone - http://boingboing.net/2011...
"I'm not pleased with the Obama administration's refusal to release the DoJ memo that "justifies" killing Awlaki and agree that it is every bit as an egregious reach by the executive branch as Bush's waterboarding. BUT from the WaPo article: "Yemeni officials said the dead from the strike included Ibrahim al-Banna, the Egyptian media chief for al-Qaeda’s Yemeni affiliate, and also a brother of Fahd al-Quso, a senior al-Qaeda operative who was indicted in New York in the 2000 attack on the USS Cole in the port of Aden. The strike occurred near the town of Azzan, an Islamist stronghold. The Defense Ministry in Yemen described Banna as one of the “most dangerous operatives” in al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, often referred to by the acronym AQAP" The deaths of innocent children is wrong - no question. And it would be swell if terrorists would put themselves on a battlefield and only attack prepared military targets so we could get rid of all collateral damage. But Yemen isn't..." - Jonathan

Re: Salvador Dali Gets Surreal with Mike Wallace (1958) - http://boingboing.net/2011...
"The High Museum of Art in Atlanta had a terrific Dali exhibit last year that had very interesting background about his interest in physics and Catholicism. But for all that I knew a lot of his paintings, I'd never seen them in person.  Something that is lost until you stand right in front of his work his how unbelievably skilled he was in painting technique. Persistence of Vision is simply startling in person, brushstrokes are invisible and the color depth immense.  And Saint John of the Cross is overwhelming. No print can possibly do justice to his work." - Jonathan

"I'm still sporting my day of launch HTC G1.  While I've rooted it and have it running almost the newest version of Android to keep it useful, it's low power processor and limited memory keep me from filling it with (mostly) useless stuff.    I'm forced to go through and throw away stuff that I'm not using every month or so.  I'm not going to be able to keep it limping along much longer  - but the ability to load up a new phone with useless crap is going to be hard to avoid. Re: Downsizing Digitally – Why I’m Deleting My Linkedin Account - http://www.simplyzesty.com/social-...
"Getting rid of linked in seems short-sighted to me. If Linkedin is providing no current value to you, changing your settings to stop all contact/email is trivial.  Even if you love your employer (or even OWN IT), Linkedin functions as a permanent employer email address.  Once you've claimed an address people who only know you through that address will be able to find you even after that email address is no longer functioning.   That is HUGELY valuable.I've been using LinkedIn since it's earliest days and only have 280 connections.  Only a couple dozen of those are not people who I have worked directly with and know face to face." - Jonathan
