I never go to wikipedia and then search, but very often select copy online, right click for "search on google", with every intention of clicking on the wikipedia article when it comes up.  I'm sure I'm not alone in that." - Jonathan

If Linkedin is providing no current value to you, changing your settings to stop all contact/email is trivial.  Even if you love your employer (or even OWN IT), Linkedin functions as a permanent employer email address.  Once you've claimed an address people who only know you through that address will be able to find you even after that email address is no longer functioning.   That is HUGELY valuable.I've been using LinkedIn since it's earliest days and only have 280 connections.  Only a couple dozen of those are not people who I have worked directly with and know face to face." - Jonathan
