Laser Welding Skin Closure Like Star Trek
Laser Welding Skin Closure Like Star Trek

From Technovelgy: "Laser welding of body tissues may provide a means of closing surgical incisions that is better than traditional methods. The technique, pioneered by Professor Abrahim Katzir of Tel Aviv University, can also be used with great efficacy on cuts made inside our bodies during surgery. Prof. Katzir set out to find the right temperature for optimal wound healing, and to perfect a device that could maintain this temperature. He is the first to apply the carbon dioxide laser, coupled to optical fibers, for wound closure under a tight temperature control. His innovation is in the use of unique optical fibers made from silver halide developed at Tel Aviv University. Successful clinical trials have already been made on people undergoing gall bladder removal surgery. Following surgery, four cuts were left on the skin of the abdomen, two of which were sutured and two laser-bonded. The results of the trials suggest that the laser-bonded tissues heal faster, with less scarring." - Mark Trapp via Bookmarklet

Some See Big Problem in Wisconsin Drinking - NYTimes.com

"When a 15-year-old comes into Wile-e’s bar looking for a cold beer, the bartender, Mike Whaley, is happy to serve it up — as long as a parent is there to give permission. “If they’re 15, 16, 17, it’s fine if they want to sit down and have a few beers,” said Mr. Whaley, who owns the tavern in this small town in southern Wisconsin. While it might raise some eyebrows in most of America, it is perfectly legal in Wisconsin. Minors can drink alcohol in a bar or restaurant in Wisconsin if they are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who gives consent. While there is no state law setting a minimum age, bartenders can use their discretion in deciding whom to serve." - RAPatton via Bookmarklet
"Before he owned Wile-e’s, Mr. Whaley said there were some cases where he had to say no to a parent. “I’ve had situations where a parent was going to buy drinks for a kid who looked 8 or 10 years old,” he said, “and I had to say, ‘That’s a no-go.’ ” He also has a rule in his tavern that under-age drinkers must leave by 9 p.m. “When it gets later in the night, people don’t want a bunch of kids running around,” he said. One recent night, a lanky, blond-haired 17-year-old boy shot pool at the bar with his dad. Both were drinking soda. In Mr. Whaley’s view, the bar can be a suitable place for families to gather, especially when the beloved Green Bay Packers are on the television. “On game days, a buddy of mine will come to the bar with his 2-year-old, his 8-year-old and his 10-year-old,” Mr. Whaley said. “He might get a little drunk. But his wife just has a few cocktails. It’s no big deal. Everybody has a good time.”" - RAPatton
I'm all about that. I was sipping from my parents since I was a kid, and I don't get stupid drunk like others who didnt have their first drink til they were 18 or 21. - Shevonne Polastre
Drinking a bars in the sticks in Wisconsin is awesome. Rounds for the whole joint cost like 20 bucks. - Jay Tannenbaum

You guys are at the bottom! this is a flipped table! :( - ♣genieyclo♣
Berk D.: source for what? I'm a good observer and this is my news! - Erhan Erdogan
where does this table come from? is it alexa, compete or your "observation". if it's created by you, please share your methodology and your data source. - Berk D. Demir
geneyclo: This is not only about this chart. I hate Alexa too. But this is a reality, Turks are really addicted! - Erhan Erdogan
Berk D.: Sorry, sure it's Alexa. - Erhan Erdogan
Erhan: Alexa is shitty, try Quantacast or Compete. Much more accurate. - ♣genieyclo♣
Erhan: thank you... please take your time and read the comments slowly before writing rather offensive and ego centric sentences ending with an exclamation mark. you're hurting your old friends. being a good observer mandates being a good communicator. me thinks... goodbye. - Berk D. Demir
Berk D.: This is not only about my exclamation mark. But - sorry for misunderstanding. Also I'll try to understand open sentences/questions. - Erhan Erdogan

"Coach Jim Harbaugh reaffirmed his commitment to Stanford on Monday, saying he's close to a contract extension with the school and doesn't anticipate talking to an NFL team after the season. But is Toby Gerhart in the Cardinal's future? The star running back hasn't ruled out the possibility that he might leave after this season — though he has two years of eligibility remaining — if he were chosen high in the baseball draft in June." - Bret Taylor via Bookmarklet

'Right to die' girl granted final wish of Disneyworld trip - Telegraph
5 hours ago - via Bookmarklet - Link
"A terminally ill girl who won the right to die after a hospital dropped its attempt to force her to have a heart transplant has been granted her final wish of a trip to Disneyworld.. Hannah Jones, 13, who said she wanted to die with dignity, has been told she can travel to America with her parents and three siblings after an insurance company came forward to provide cover. Her family had feared her "dream" of visiting the Disney resort had been crushed when attempts to secure medical insurance were refused. But she was "delighted" when an anonymous British insurance company agreed to provide cover, worth an estimated £5million. At her home in Marden, Herefordshire, she said: "I am overwhelmed. I absolutely love Disney and watch all of the films. To be able to go and see them is a dream come true. "The week away from our routine of doctors' appointments and hospitals will be a wonderful distraction for us. We will feel like a normal family for a while."" - RAPatton via Bookmarklet
sad, read about it on The Huffington Post....I don't want to sound bad..but it is a bit sad that the evil empire of Disney World is her last wish. But I respect her wishes and believe her intentions were for happiness, which she will now get. Happy trip! - ♣genieyclo♣
