"I've had a quick play around with a Storm this morning! - http://www.flickr.com/photos/m...... It's no secret round here that I'm a bit of an iPhone fanboy - I hadn't expected to like the Storm much, but I came away very impressed. The screen is really bright and clear - just like the Bold. The device feels very well put together. I think it is slightly heavier than the iPhone, but also a little smaller. Screen size - iPhone screen is taller, the Storm's is wider. I was most impressed by the screen press button feedback. The screen is on a sort of flexible 'bed' that moves to give feedback as you press a button - I thought it worked really well. May still get a Bold because I want my 2nd phone to have a keypad, but all in all I'm impressed..." - Jonathan Mulholland

REST is a quickly emerging style for interacting with web-services. The term "REST" was coined by Roy T. Fieldingin his PhD dissertation and describes a new architectural style for hypermedia distributed systems. The beauty of this style is that it builds on what makes the world wide web so scalable. This shouldn't be a surprise given Dr. Fielding's involvement in defining the web's building blocks in the early 90s. So, what makes REST so appealing? The answer is simplicity. Instead of requiring a whole new set of technologies, it builds directly on what we have today and what we are familiar with. Except, it applies it in a novel and practical way. So, let's explore what REST means to you. This introduction will cover some HTTP basics and then dive into guidelines showing how to apply REST to your web-services. - Jonathan Mulholland

You may or may not be aware that there is debate going on about the “right” way to implement heterogeneous application-to-application communication: While the current mainstream clearly focuses on web services based on SOAP, WSDL and the WS-* specification universe, a small, but very vocal minority claims there’s a better way: REST, short for REpresentational State Transfer. In this article, I will try to provide a pragmatic introduction to REST and RESTful HTTP application integration without digressing into this debate. I will go into more detail while explaining those aspects that, in my experience, cause the most discussion when someone is exposed to this approach for the first time. - Jonathan Mulholland

Press75.com was derived from WPelements.com to make the entire process of purchasing themes and receiving support for purchased themes more efficient for my users, not to mention myself. Why Press75.com? Well… since pretty much every domain in the entire world is used up, you have to get creative now-a-days with domain names. “Press”, obviously for Word”Press”, and 1975 was the year I was born (now I am really dating myself), hence… Press75.com. You should notice the simplicity of Press75.com which is purposely intended to make your experience here as easy and straight forward as possible. You will not find extra text, advertisements, cluttered comments or anything like that here at Press75.com, just the basics. WPelements.com will always be available for those looking for more than just themes, but… if you just want to stay updated with all my latest premium themes, Press75.com is the place to be. - Jonathan Mulholland

Consumer infatuation with perks and privileges isn't new. For years, airlines, hotels, credit card companies and private banks have been cleverly rewarding their most valuable customers with surprises, status symbols and convenience. But as we move towards a consumer society that’s based more on experiences, on status stories, on the ephemeral—and in which, for many, time is now the only true scarcity—expect perks and privileges to become an integral part of every B2C industry and sector. We’ve dubbed this trend PERKONOMICS: - Jonathan Mulholland

Unlike what you might find in some books and articles, programming cannot be actually learned in 7, 21 or even 365 days[1]. It is a cumulative process that builds up your skills day after day and year after year. However, programming can also be fun and rewarding (mentally, spiritually and financially). This guide does not promise to give a magical easy way to becoming a programmer, and the ordering of the steps is not sacred, but you'll get a general outline of how to become a programmer in one of the modern programming fields[2][3]. - Jonathan Mulholland

Things like this make me wonder of how little we know about world we are living in. Many things are mysteries because we just don't have the knowledge of finding out what is reason for them. I wish all good for that girl and hope that they can find some good way to get things better without causing some kind of side effects. - Daniel Schildt

Week before last, Joseph Smarr spoke at Web 2.0 Expo in New York about implementing the open web. Was perusing his slides and came across the second to last which was a pretty stark way to compare how Facebook, MySpace, Yahoo!, and Google are working in the social web space: Really exciting though to see some of the largest companies on the net working with the same underlying technology stack! Year ago I doubt we would have expected this let alone things like the Portable Contacts API becoming real. - Jonathan Mulholland

Historically, the Internet has been all about connectivity between computers and among people. The World Wide Web opened enormous opportunities and motivations for the injection of content into the Internet, and search engines, such as Google's, provided a way for people to find the right content for their interests. Of course, the Internet continues to develop: new devices will find their way onto the net and new ways to access it will evolve. - Jonathan Mulholland

'Big Science' is always suppressing The Truth with their blatant pro-evolution anti-wacko agenda: from the fact that UFOs built the pyramids to the reality of creationism and fact the universe is "Turtles All The Way Down". It is time to fight back and urge schools to Teach The Controversy with these intelligently designed t-shirts. Creating a WordPress Theme, The Homepage Following on from the recent article on "PSD to HTML", this tutorial will look at taking a HTML/CSS template and turning it into a functioning WordPress theme. There is so much you can do when creating your own theme we couldn't nearly cover it all. So, we're going to look at how themes are structured, creation of the core files and splitting up that index.html file. - Jonathan Mulholland

Going to range from collaboration to design, hiring, lots of things without diving into too much detail. 20-25 minutes of talking and then Q&A. 1. Momentum - Has its hands in just about everything and is incredibly important. Esp for morale. Most typical projects are really exciting at the beginning and then people tend to lose interest and fade out. Long projects eat at you and you’re not even looking to do good stuff you just want to finish things and they don’t turn out well. Create a situation where projects are short and there’s excitement and it’s a short 2 week project and it leaves people in excited mode. Break big projects into as many small projects. 2 week rule. - Jonathan Mulholland

Best-ever Full HD motion clarity with the world’s first Motionflow 200Hz BRAVIA - the Z4500 Using sophisticated algorithms, the Motionflow 200Hz system employed by the Z4500 calculates three additional frames for every original, upping the frame rate from 50 to 200 per second. The result is smoothest and clearest motion reproduction to be achieved by an LCD TV. A complementary image enhancement technology called IB Reduction (Image Blur Reduction) boosts the sharpness of the final picture by improving the original, frame by frame, before it is processed by Motionflow 200Hz. Whether allowing you to see the detail of a panning shot exactly as the Director intended or viewing the ultimate in smooth motion clarity for sports like football, the 200Hz Motionflow BRAVIA sets new standards in image quality and enjoyment. - Jonathan Mulholland

Note: not all of these are actually part of UNIX itself, and you may not find them on all UNIX machines. But they can all be used on turing in essentially the same way, by typing the command and hitting return. Note that some of these commands are different on non-Solaris machines - see SunOS differences. If you've made a typo, the easiest thing to do is hit CTRL-u to cancel the whole line. But you can also edit the command line (see the guide to More UNIX). UNIX is case-sensitive. - Jonathan Mulholland
