"Outstanding meal, the food was so good and the service was excellent. We had a great arugula salad, lasagna and this excellent chicken with polenta. I can't wait to return!" - Jon Erickson

“From the WSJ.com "Politico: The Republican National Committee, growing nervous over the prospect of Democrats' winning a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, is considering tapping into a $5 million line of credit this week to aid an increasing number of vulnerable incumbents, top Republicans...”
Wow, so McCain can't win on his positions and policies, so now he is pushing his campaign as the way to balance a Democrat controlled house and senate. This is showing his desperation. - Jon Erickson
“From the WSJ.com "Soon after the U.S. markets open this morning, President Bush plans to address the nation and tell Americans why they should still be "confident," White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said yesterday, as Bloomberg reports. Chances are that the all-news cable networks, and the big...”
What a turn of political parties, Obama is the voice of reason and McCain is out there proposing to waste more billions of worthless dollars, what a sad state of Republican politics. - Jon Erickson

Just think we have wiped out 4 years of investment gains because of this credit problem, but most of them were the result of the free money strategy from Greenspan, so we are just paying the piper. - Jon Erickson

9985. So that took only 35 minutes. Now if it closes at, say, 10,100 - the media headlines will misleadingly read "DOW BOUNCES BACK". Gotta love that. - Aviv
Hey Jon Erickson, can we ship you a bullhorn so you can scream that statement to the masses? - Bwana
“You know what's worse than women going for Clinton simply because she's a woman? People voting for Obama simply because they don't want to have to admit that they had voted against the first black President.”
Hopefully it will develop much the same as Woodstock, where, if all are to be believed, there were about 30,000,000 people to hear Hendrix do an anthem. - eggsy
Wow, are people saying that? That's the most twisted logic I've heard in a while. - anna awesomesauce
I haven't heard that one either. I'm voting for Obama primarily because a vote for McCain is a vote for stasis and a vote against science and technology and everything us nerds and geeks stand for. Obama's shine is starting to wear off for me - he's way too liberal for my tastes, but the GOP has fucked up so badly that it's time for something different. - Tad, Fool
i never think of obama as black, he is a guy with a wider mind than his opponent, and gets my vote for that - Gregory Lent
and anna, i have never heard anyone say they were voting for obama just to not say they voted again the first black president. i don't think people think that way. i have see people say they weren't voting for him because he's black or think they he's muslim like there's something wrong with that. - Anika Malone
While there may be a few people who would vote for Obama out of white guilt, it is more likely that many more will vote against him out of an unacknowledged racist tendencies. This column has more details: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10... I suspect this idea of "People voting for Obama simply because they don't want to have to admit that they had voted against the first black President" is patently ridiculous - more b.s. from the desperate minds of right wing radio hosts - Sean O'Brien
What's going to be hilariously bad are the exit polls this time around. Obama's going to be showing 65% or more in Pennsylvania exit polls, but then he's not even going to win the state. - Rob Sterling
It would have been better to have Thomas Clarence running for President not Obama! I am not a conservative but you need one to handle the American geopolitics! The world is very complexed and not simple white and black liberal. (no relevency to color of candidate) - Igor The Troll
Wow, I had no idea that there would be people standing there while you vote to see who you select. Is that something new? - Jeff Jones
Jeff, where did you see that? AFAIK, voting is and always will be a private matter. No one will ever watch over your shoulder to see who you pick. That's the point of curtained booths at polling places. - Rochelle
But this has been going on forever. People voting solely for the party without any insight as to the policies of the candidate. - Jon Erickson

If he was just as incompetent as McCain I would have no problem telling people why I didn't vote for the "first black president". Obama just happens to be the one of the two nominees that doesn't seem to be talking from his ass. - David Cook

Considering that your vote is pretty much private, I think the percentage of people that will vote for Obama out of "white guilt" is extremely small. So small that it's not even worthy of discussion. - Angel Smith
Sorry Dave, people want to cast a vote for the correct candidate. Whether you vote for McCain (white candidate) or Obama (black candidate), the vote is still historic. - JC unwired
You can still vote for the oldest U.S. presidential candidate if you want to be historic. - Robert Haas
I think people do like the idea of being part of a "historic" moment, and that may tip some people. But what tips this election isn't going to be the people who switch votes to be historic -- it's whether or not all those youngsters at Obama rallies actually get up and vote. - Joel Bennett
+Angel & Faboo, I am only commenting because I believe this post tends toward the ridiculous, though I often enjoy watching the discussions Akiva starts/gets into. - Marko Bon
Really? I just hope people can vote their conscious based on the merit of the canidates. I know..pie in the sky. - Mike L

I just find that this small trend of 'voting for history' to be disturbing because it lacks any involvement other than emotional and sentimental. Vote for the issues and the future of this nation, not because of skin color, gender, or religion (Kennedy's Catholicism worked against him in many states). Also, +1 Tad. Sometimes I think we share a brain. - Akiva Moskovitz
Jay, it's a vote between mangoes and kumquats. - Akiva Moskovitz
Faboo, although your initial comment is worthy, it's different than the point being made here. People discriminating against race is a sadly comment ailment and nothing at all new or surprising. - Akiva Moskovitz
Several people have responded to me not voting for Obama because he is black when actually it is because I don't think he is going to be a good president. - Steve Daly
via Alert Thingy
Steve, that's a typical knee-jerk reaction. Some people simply cannot cope with contrary opinion and so when the cognitive dissonance gets too great, they just lash out with a childish, baseless accusation. Plenty of my female friends got a lot of static for supporting Obama over Clinton because they weren't supporting a female candidate when their motives had nothing to do with gender. - Akiva Moskovitz
I will support a lady as long as she looks good or has brass balls! LOL But I am biased towards females, in a postive way! I just love women! ;-) - Igor The Troll
Good commentary from Fred which I agree with, but the biggest problem is the comment that it is political suicide to present a turnaround plan, but that is what we need to know from these guys and gals. - Jon Erickson
This just shows how broken Congress is. The Financial Bailout bill (give away) is packed with ear marks. As the article says it is Christmas in October. I hope the House does not pass this. - Jon Erickson
