“US 2008 Election: Results listed by average IQ”
US 2008 Election: Results listed by average IQ
Saturday at 12:50 pm - Link
No comment. ;-) - Kol Tregaskes
Not commenting is probably the smartest thing to do. :) - pea gives ♥ a bad name
ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - l0ckergn0me
That might be obvious but people with a lower IQ are also citizens of the democracy. This indicates to me that people with a lower IQ are simply concerned with different issues than those with higher IQs. It doesn't mean their vote is any less important. - ·[▪_▪]·
I'd argue that it's because weaker minds (read: those who don't have critical thinking skills) are more easily swayed. - l0ckergn0me
"Stronger" minds are easily influenced too. You just don't appeal to their beliefs but to their ego. - ·[▪_▪]·
Indeed, the smart comment is no comment :) - Mike Reynolds
That's what I thought, Mike. :-) - Kol Tregaskes
Leave it to the smarter people in the country who can think for themselves to vote for the right person. - Mathew Ballard
Stupid! If this were median IQ one might draw a statistically significant correlation between IQ and vote cast. Makes me wonder about the IQ of those that pass this stuff along. - Ryan Petty
this is the same thing from 2004, they just changed the names, it's still silly. - Anika Malone
this is due to all the in-breeding - sofarsoshawn
Republicans used to be the party of the upper class, but money = intelligence so we can no longer give Republicans the upper class. Certainly the lower and middle classes belong to Democrats. So what does that leave Republicans? Oh, okay, still no comment :) - Mike Reynolds
Are they actually trying to say that the average IQ of most of the states is BELOW average? I wonder what percentage of people actually get IQ tests, anyway. My theory is it happens when people are looking for problems, like for those with learning disabilities or who are suspected of having ADHD. - MiɳiMagɘ (Sexy Scimitar)
IQ is a broken metric anyway. x: - Daniel Bruce
Do you really think this helps your cause? In all actuality, it makes you look like a complete fool. "IQ and the wealth of nations" contains no IQ information for the US States. When you do find "average IQ" numbers for US states, they aren't anything like the numbers in this chart. You are makeing a good case for a negative correlation between IQ and the electrion results when you and others push these fraudulent charts. - John Rubier via twhirl
Potentially a more honest assessment of IQ by State: http://www.vdare.com/Sailer/06... - AJ Kohn
Thanks for the article @msblog. I quote: "And so, politically, the G.O.P. is squeezed at both ends. The party is losing the working class by sins of omission — because it has not developed policies to address economic anxiety. It has lost the educated class by sins of commission — by telling members of that class to go away." - Mike Reynolds
this is from before the election btw - Michael J. Cohen (mjc)
IQ is a racist myth - ♜ Bjorn Tipling
@Bjorn I can understand feeling the notion of the IQ test and score might be contentious for theoretical reasons, but why racist? And why a myth? I mean, IQ tests exist, people exist, smart people and dumb people exist, and often there is a strong correlation between smart people and high IQs, dumb people and low IQs...which part is mythical? - Neal "thePuck" Jansons
But then Obama got elected by people who had the cultural bias in IQ tests the other way. - liju
My Sunday morning comment: "still no comment" - Mike Reynolds
Obama as elitist http://is.gd/21IV - sofarsoshawn
You people fall for this again and again. More about this silly hoax: http://www.snopes.com/politics... - Gus
Wow, New Mexico is that high? Must be that Albuquerque is pulling the state upwards. :D - Steven Perez
Hey, if Connecticut is so smart, then how do they explain Lieberman? Just wondering. - Steven Perez
Gus: So is Sailer's data bad also? - Mitchell Tsai
Got called to task my a conservative friend. http://www.snopes.com/politics... - Kevin Moore
@Neal well, IQ has a racist history, and intelligence is a culture specific word, which means it's subjective. Finally what is 'smart'? What is 'dumb'? Is a guy with 3 phd's, a six figure salary who advances science, but leads a miserable lonely life with, estranged from family smart? Is a drop-out janitor who has children who love her and make her happy all the days of her life dumb? Read what Solon said to Croesus about happiness, it applies to intelligence I think. - ♜ Bjorn Tipling
So what IQ were the third party voters? :P - Morton Fox

"Companies should not dismiss staff who use social networking sites such as Facebook and Bebo at work as merely time-wasters, a Demos study suggests. Attempts to control employees' use of such software could damage firms in the long run by limiting the way staff communicate, the think tank said. Social networking can encourage employees to build relationships with colleagues across a firm, it added. However, businesses are warned to be strict with those who abuse access." - RAPatton via Bookmarklet

Thanks for posting! (I caught the end of it on TV) - Dan Hsiao
McCain was quite funny too. At the end especially when introducing Obama next =) - Davide D'Incau
This is fabulous! "That was a tough primary you had there, John." And thanks for posting McCain's too - about to watch. - Carla Thompson
This is excellent! I wish we had the same kind of moments in French politics! - Antoine Bertier
OMG... the AIG zinger... - Cyndy
the idea of this during a campaign just seemed bizarre to me... - Taylor Davidson
where is the McCain video from the Al Smith dinner? - JohnBfromMemphis via twhirl
I love the quote that the problems with the housing market have been eight times harder on McCain ha! - Joe Dawson (beta)
Good humoured banter. Nice to see the candidates with a sense of humour during the campaign. - Chris Nixon
Its great to think that after the division between candidates, parties and America in the past months, this sort of event could occur. I loved it! Both were great, and we needed a refreshing moment to sit back and realize that at the end of the day, one of the more crucial aspects to life is the ability to laugh. - JC unwired
Obama looked so uptight and our War Hero seemed relaxed---good stuff. - Jonathan Keller
McCain was the best I have *ever* seen him. Won't change my vote, of course, but the McCain in this video is a lot more like the one we used to see before the 2000 elections. - Chris Baskind
both were pretty funny....but i think obama won the standup debate :) - don loeb
McCain was hilarious. As an Obama supporter, I am glad he wasn't that good during all of his other speeches ;) - Bret Taylor
One of my favorite lines was "Many of you know that I got my name, Barack, from my father. What you may not know is that Barack is actually Swahili for 'that one'. And I got my middle name from somebody who obviously didn't think I'd ever run for president." - Bret Taylor
Agree with Bret. McCain's comedic timing was a lot better than Obama's - Deepak
I'm an Obama supporter, but I thought McCain was funnier. This video has the beginning of McCain's speech which includes the jokes about the Clintons: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v... - Chris White
This is really cool! FUNNY!!!!!!! thanks for sharing!! :) - Susan Beebe
Amen, @Chris B. If only the whole campaign were this funny and civil. - Heidi Moon
I'd like to see Sarah Palin and Joe Biden do this too. My suspicion is that Joe would be funnier though, unless Sarah secretly got Tina Fey to do it instead. - Chris White
Hehe. Roast. Conjures up funny images to people here in the UK. - Slippy Lane
They were both hilarious! Their writers need to work in comedy :) I thought Obama was the funniest, but then I am an Obama fan so may be biased. - Sheila Taylor
Swahili for "That One". Too funny. - Clay Newton
"Contrary to rumors, I was not born in a manger! I was actually born on Krypton...." - j1m
Funny, McCain was good as well. Can you imagine having that in France?...Not really! - alice ayel
Dear american friends: should Barack Obama lose the election, can we have him ? - dario
@Dario only if the international community will also accept an American intellectual diaspora as well. - Jason Carreira
@alice, maybe not the 2002 election, but a roast between Sarko and Séngolène would have been interesting. - James Williams

facebook really stands out. But look at Brazil and India carrying Orkut! - Rahul Das
Orkut sucks! Spam is out of control on there. Whatever Bristol Karina Ferrari is - leave me ALONE! - vijay
I STILL get friend requests from Orkut LOL! - Mona N.
Agreed Orkut sucks. I keep trying to get my friends to move to facebook but I keep failing. And to think I actually want them on Friendfeed! - Rahul Das
Facebook sucks even more! It's a script overload NIGHTMARE! - Mona N.
Rahul, I have had some success as I'm very persistent. I reply to all orkut scraps in Facebook and force them to check it out inside Fb! Not sure about FF though as most of them haven't gotten their head around twitter even. - vijay
Mona, maybe you are targeted 'cause you are very popular? I have quite a few friends on there along with a ton of my clients but they(and I) love it! FF rules tho. - vijay
lol, the US is the only place on the planet where MySpace is the most popular :-) - Duncan Riley
vijay: Orkut? I haven't logged in since 2004 and I STILL get friend requests LOL As for FB, my biggest gripe is how they keep adding features and overloading the UI with Ajax, hence causing my browsers to crash! @Duncan: At this point, I'm thinking of going BACK to Myspace since it's more customizable than FB! - Mona N.
I was talking about Fb, don't use orkut anymore :} And I switched to Fb initally for the UI! Google Chrome, Win XP, no probs. Anyway my point is that out of the choices for those in India, Fb is the best choice. - vijay
Hehe, Morocco stands for FB, yeah! At least they're using something... for the rest not having data, we got what? Some places in Africa and what's that little spot under Russia? Skyrock in Algeria? Nice graph, thanks for the post there, it's really interesting!. - Zu aka ElijahBailey
Matt: No one answer... lol My messages are overfilling everywhere because I'm horrible at keeping up. :( @Zu -- my pleasure. :) - Mona N.
the grey one is leader in Africa. ;) - paolo beneforti
Interesting map. - Kol Tregaskes
This definitely shows that social network companies must look at the local culture when entering a region. One type of marketing approach is not going to work everywhere. Yahoo Japan is an excellent example of looking at the local culture. - Parvez Halim
hi-5 and linked-in is what i get pinged for in india - Gregory Lent
Orkut was long ago overrun by the bad-grammar brigade. Indian teens are addicted to it. Facebook is 'new' here. Hi5 and the others are not even on the sub-continental map. - Vijayendra Mohanty
Orkut rocks for me! Thats because almost most of the people I care about are in Orkut. I know that I cannot and will not be able to convince everyone of them to use some other social networking sites like FB, FF or myspace. I sometimes dream of a world, where FB, Orkut, Myspace could work seamlessly with each other sharing contacts and interesting data. - Karthick R
who are these guys inviting me to hi-5 on rediffmail, if no one uses it in india? - Gregory Lent
majority looks like Facebook. however US is MySpace all the way. There are some really weird social networks out there like V Kontakte?! What the...?? - Amir H.
I see a lot of HI5. - Amir H.
I doubt that Myspace's majority will survive. I know many younger networkers who are atracted more and more to FB... - Kev

And asleep. LOL - Ron
I love this but since there's no scale, there is the appearance that the things we know and don't know grow in proportion to each other, which is misleading. The chart on the right should either have an exponential scale for C versus B's linear or change labels to place B on the vertical and C on the horizontal. Reason is, the things we don't know grows exponentially to the things we know as education grows. Just saying we get dumber faster with more education :) - ·[▪_▪]·
Or, the things we don't know are finite and our ability to comprehend them grows work knowledge. Or, the things we don't know are infinite and our increasing knowledge improved our understanding of infinity. - Robert Hafer
