Kol: That's pretty neat. Wish it was shorter like wave.com or gwave.com (Google owns gwave.com anyway) or something.
- Nick Humphries
i think this @googlewave.com email address is a temporary thing during testing. after it goes live you should be able to just use it with your google account. at least that's what i think:)
- Taylan Aydınlı
if only you could bold an announcement in FF like you can in Wave :D [oh, and my username on Wave is the splendiforously original "adamlasnik"]
- Adam Lasnik
Guys, please read the title and the first comment. This is not a request for invites. This is for users who already have an account and want to share their account name. For invites see this thread: http://ff.im/91M9R

- amarquart
Blimey. I must be going mad, is it not clear that this is NOT an invite thread. For invites see here: http://ff.im/91M9R
- Kol Tregaskes
Not sure if anyone else woudl find it useful, i'm going to add a load of you as friends and create a wave just to try stuff out in. Feel free to remove yourself from the wave or use it as you feel. Also feel free to add anyone else you think might want to be in on it
- Jamie Vidamour
Shockingly, I am robdiana@googlewave.com
- Rob Diana
Kamilah, you are kamilah.gill. You can find this if you click on yourself in the Contacts sidebar. You address (like everyone) is shown there.
- Kol Tregaskes
Karoli: is that your google wave nick or are you sniffling? :)
- Ahsan Ali aka. Slick
I'm sniffling because I don't have a google wave nick. Despite two invites, there is still nothing in my inbox. I am not in with the in crowd. :(
- Karoli
Karoli -- It appears as if there's a batch of emails going out now. Keep checking.
- Christopher A Carr
<- Waves hello! :) I'm at holger.eilhard@googlewave.com
- Holger Eilhard
hello holger, can you pls send me invite? fatihkurtoglu@gmail.com
- Mehmet Fatih Kurtoglu
Invite came today! I'm jalada@googlewave.com. As part of the second/third 'Wave' of people getting invites looks like I don't get any to share out.
- Jalada
M Fatih Kurtoglu: Sorry, I don't yet have any nominations to give out...
- Holger Eilhard
Hey, I'm in too ! :)) tagyboy@googlewave.com
- fwed
Just got my invite this morning as well. FF embed seems to be working fine. I've tried the Wolfram Alpha robot but didn't get it to work yet.
- François Dongier
librarysupporter@googlewave.com in my wave. :)
- MLx
Glad to see more and more people getting in. What we're waiting for is proper group support (a few weeks hopefully) then let the games begin! :-D
- Kol Tregaskes
Anyone have a spare google wave invite to send to me? email me at zaldor at gmail ! TY!
- Les Zaldor
I will as soon as I get one WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
- Martha
banane@googlewave.com <-- writing this from wave. neat!
- anna sauce
marco.nunez@googlewave - FINALLY! like i said on twitter - i feel like the kid who got a nintendo 1 christmas too late when everyone had already beaten super mario bros!
- Marco(aureliusmaximus)
denise.straessler@googlewave - stupid me had no idea i wouldn't be able to select a different name .....
- denise
Wow. Thanks Kol!!! Here's mine for all ya'll to add - walt.ruppar@googlewave.com - although I just added like 150 of the above. While also deleting my pity pleads for an invite... ;-)
- Walt Ruppar
1997, and it was just to find and chat with my future husband, didn't know then that it would change all my life
- Olga Rasulova
1984. (Might have been 1983.) I'm really old.
- Kevin Gamble
1979. My dad volunteered to run a new department at his University. It was a new computer department running a DEC PDP 1134. Not long after we were connecting a dumb terminal to our analog phone at home to dialIn to access his mainframe at the school. I was 10. Dad's a blogger now and never has lost touch with technology. :-)
- Julian Seery Gude
from BuddyFeed
1985. Dialing out on a 300 baud modem with my C64.
- Kevin C. Tofel
1994, with a super fast 9600 baud modem. With the incredible Trumpet software providing a solid SLIP connection. 100hr/month for 25$ ! Holy shit, I was RICH than!
- Éric Senterre
1988 - Father-in-law introduced me - I was a big time BBS man with my 2400 Baud back then too :)
- Owen Greaves
1995 with my 14k modem using microsoft comic chat
- Nelson Mateo
1991 at college, U of C had an awesome internet setup. ran my first web server on a mac IIci running AUX in '94.
- felix
1992/3 - I was forced to learn it so I could teach using it. I remember sitting at a 486 reading while I waited for a page to load, so I could plan how to use it in class. Luckily the college provided tutorials and I had IT-smart friends. I fell in love with the computer & web and wrote my PhD thesis about that (ongoing) adventure - http://www.scribd.com/doc...
- Joan Vinall-Cox
1996? Whenever AOL went unlimited and it usually took hours to connect. I remember being as excited as a kid at Christmas when it finally connected!
- Josh Begin
When I was 10 I remember my dad bringing me to his work on a weekend and setting me up in front of a computer because I kept hearing something about a Cleveland Indians website on the radio. I begged him to take me back to work everyday after that.
- Alan Witzke
Think a few people here are referring to ARPAnet and/or online services?? 1993 ... Launched my first company (with it's own URL 1995)
- Charlie Anzman
Kevin - You're not old. 300 baud Compuserve ... text ... WOW!
- Charlie Anzman
Officially 1994. We used networked computers in the DoD in the 70s, but I was totally away from any web after that until '94. PCs were a shock to my system.
- Jack (a.k.a. Jeber)
'93 using an amateur radio modem. '96 for AOL using a Performa 400 (no web, just used AOL chats/email and telnet) and text-based web at the library. I think '98 before I was using a graphic web interface.
- Alix Whitmire
1997 but just in 1998 I have access to it with my first computer.
- Bibi
1997, I was 14 years old. My brother bought a computer and it came with an AOL Trial.
- Pamela
1994 with a 2400 baud modem and an AOL hourly account.
- John Fox
when i was about 10 years old in 4th grade on AOL...took my best friend and I about 45 mins to figure out you needed to plug a telephone cord into the computer lol. (about 1996-97)
- stanleyyork
1994 - it was all about AOL, web crawler, geocites ......I always thought how this thing, the internet, was going to get faster in the future..at that time I was 12.
- iTbay
Early 80's. There was only hosted chat rooms and it was all text and ascii art. I think MedDirec and the Green Door was a couple of them and I think some universities were toying with email. You really had to know protocol to get 1200 baud out of the modems. I came up with the idea to put a toggle switch on the front of the box instead of bridging the pins on the motherboard to go from...

- Robt.D.McKenzie
1992 i think, trumpet, slip, telnet, stuff
- Liviu Barbat
i used 'sz' to download a file via zmodem, and slipknot to slip-over-shell circa 1994 yee haw
- Brian Hendrickson
91 or 92 via ampr.net over 1k2 baud shared radio channels. Then I signed up for demon.net "tenner a month" package at 14k4 full duplex :D. The rest, as they say, is net>
- Nick B.
Either KFC or Popeyes...three piece meal. Two legs and a breast. I can't help the fact that I love fried chicken (actually fried foods in general).
- Alex Scoble
Dominos. I love the attention to detail and that little bit extra
- Simon Wicks
Of the six in the image I would say Burger King, nom, nom, nom on the Whoppers with Cheese. Screw Dominoes, cardboard and ketchup would taster better.
- Allen Harkleroad
And if Chris is right and Subway doesn't count, Burger King
- Alan Simpson
Fortunately, the In 'n Out in SF is very inconvenient.
- Cristo
Five Guys or Tijuana Flats. EDIT: Oh, and Evo's. Of the ones in the pic, the only one I can/will eat is Subway (chicken bacon ranch salad).
- Alix Whitmire
love some chicken planks from ljs - of course there are none in nyc so when i find one i must have it
- Allen Stern
I too would choose In-N-Out if I could.
- Dave Roth
A&W Sirloin Uncle Burger with onion rings and a Root Beer. Lunch or dinner.
- Kenton
Zee, In 'n Out is a "healthy" cook-to-order burger place popular on the west coast (and maybe other parts) of the US. It has very few choices, and has an almost cult-like following. There's one right on the other side of the freeway from Google headquarters in Mountain View.
- Cristo
In N Out is the bomb, but we don't have them here and they don't fry the burgers...ergo my choice is still KFC or Popeyes.
- Alex Scoble
Alex, actually there is "animal style", which is fried in mustard. It's one of their "secret" options. You can also add pickles.
- Cristo
I like Wendy's chili...it has less fat and more nutrition than most fast food.
- Dawn
Taco Bell. Either #1 (Burrito Supreme w/Taco Supreme, no tomatoes on the taco) or #3/5 depending on location (3 Taco Supremes, no tomato on the taco) plus a chicken Meximelt. Though the Meximelt also depends on location. In Orange County, the chicken Meximelts taste like tuna. GAG.
- Admiral Anika
KFC, Pizza Hut,Subway, Burger King or (as a last starving-on-a-dessert-island resort) MacDonalds
- Roberto Bonini
Being a low-carber, I usually just go to McDonald's and get their double cheeseburger or quarter pounder without the buns. If you just care about the beef patty, McDonald's is the cheapest :-P. I also go to Subway for their salads.
- Andre P. Siregar
taco bell. just regular ass soft tacos and I'm good. sooo gooood.
- Richard Lawler
Nothing wrong with Taco Bell (chalupas FTW!), but compared to fried chicken it's not even a contest. It's a complete slaughter. Fried chicken wins hands down every time.
- Alex Scoble
I like fried chicken more, but not as fast food, even popeyes & church's (whatever happened to mighty wings anyway?) over taco hell. lets not start on french fries tho - it's gotta be Rally's
- Richard Lawler
Given the choices above - subway (five dollar foot looooonnng) :-)
- Dan Morrill AKA Techwag
Probably Subway. I don't feel grossed out or guilty afterwards.
- Rodfather
It's a tie between Wendy's (lunch) and Chipotle (dinner). We don't have many Wendy's out here in LA.
- Amani
I eat at Panda Express reasonably often. Chow Mein, Orange Chicken and Beijing Beef.
- Michael R. Bernstein
McDonald's Grilled Ranch snack wraps, medium fry and large sweet tea.
- Russ Jackson
My favorite burgers are Fatburger, but they aren't available here in Albuquerque. Very rarely, I'll get a Double-Western Bacon Cheeseburger from Carl's Jr.
- Michael R. Bernstein
A roach coach, a street vendor hotdog (wrapped in bacon), or other local businesses like the infamous, omnipresent $1 Chinese Food. If I go to a brand (rare): McDonald's, Wendy's, or Subway. If I get delivery from a brand, Domino's.
- jojo, adventurer
Wendy's definately nothing better than Wendy's french fries dipped in a chocolate frosty
- Adrienne Van Houten
Quiznos. Sadly they don't have a franchisee in India. Between those options: Subway. Italian BMT Sub/Turkey and Chicken Ham Sub. And strawberry thick shake at McD.
- Parth Awasthi
McDonalds/KFC ~ nothing from dominoo's thats for sure lol
- Tatty Gibson
There are no Burger King in France, and very few KFC or Domino's. Plus I'm a vegetarian and McDonald's has no veggie burger to offer me (at least in France). I love to occasionally eat at Pizza Hut, and I frequently eat at Subway.
- Brome
Here in Holland for me it's Febo (which off course nobody of you will know). More important, because really delicious, is Vlaamse Friet being sold in the Voetboogstraat (very wise to remember that adress in case you're planning to visit Amsterdam as a tourist).
- Ton Zijp
When given the choice I pick a Bacon Ultimate Cheeseburger combo from Jack in the Box (curly fries and a root beer)
- Christian (Simply X)
Burger King, Steakhouse menu with Ice Tea Peach.
- Ercu
Burger King. Twister fries, some chicken, some cheese things. Burgers are way to big.
- Ruud van Wijngaarden
Pizza, or if its burgers, Burger King (I like their fries)
- Ahsan Ali aka. Slick
Burger King, best fries, and a burger tastes like meat instead of a sponge like Mc D's
- Willem (@wim66) ☠
When i'm in Paris, I visit the series of alleys in the Latin Quarter with lots of Gyro stands open until late. They put the fries in the Gyros. Mmmm.
- Cristo
Price drives me. Mc Donalds tend to beat them in price deals but, not always.
- Monique
been fast food-free for over a year now! trying to keep it that way.. you only get one body in your lifetime!
- Johannan Edelman
Subway is the only "fast food" I eat. I'm not trying to become a fat slob.
- orionstarr
Coming in late on this but, without a doubt, it's Chick-fil-a. This is probably because I can't get it around here so, when I do, it's a treat. The waffle fries there are the best. And, when I'm in the mood to eat chicken, the chicken pieces beat out all others.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Not many options in SF (as far as fast food chains). I'd say the Ali Baba's schawerma and Mission burritos are pretty expedient.
- Steve Lynch
from twhirl
True but subway is not to bad for you
- orionstarr
Where I live we have public grocery they make the best subs around IMO
- orionstarr
Bojangles Chicken is my favorite, but since its not available here I'd have to go with Hardies Double bacon cheese burger.
- Kim Landwehr
Jack in the Box tacos, no idea what is in them but I can slam 4 down really quickly. The new Taco Nachos are umm silly
- Bill Pennington
from twhirl
I crave taco bell though it's been months since I have had it - I usually go for grilled stuffed chicken burrito or a mexican pizza
- Rajiv Doshi
The bacon ultimate cheeseburger and curly cheese fries from Jack in the Box.
- David Cook
Of those, BK. Was Subway, but I got too many dried-up sandwiches from my local one.
- Kamilah Gill
definitely not the best gadget. perhaps best phone. but not best gadget.
- John Wang
Best? Hardly - in the top 100? You bet!
- Kevin Johnson
I would have to say yes, as well. I definitely use it more than any other gadget.
- Josh Begin
Yea, kind of, in the sense that it has been a 'life altering' device for me, allowing me much greater flexibility on the road. In the same way buying my first cell phone 10 years ago was a change, this too has been rather monumental.
- Andrew Leyden
Mona - What makes these answers Myopic? Is it not possible that it is the best gadget some of us have ever owned? I'm curious what comes to mind first when you think of the best gadget that you owned. PS. think Andrew Leyden just explained it pretty well.
- Justin Korn
For those who say no, what's your best gadget then?
- ronin
I hate to be an Apple hater but I love my Sprint Mogul and my recently purchaced Zune. I feel that these products have more bang for your buck than the Apple products.
- David Cook
from fftogo
I think so, yes. My computer is more powerful, but the iPhone is the "coolest". I still have people who gawk at some of the things it can do, there is really no other phone like it. At the same time, there are some hardware and software problems that don't always allow it to be at it's full potential.
- Brandon Titus
Ummmm I'll go with yes, cant really think of anything else that would takes its place other than my computer, but thats not realy a gadget.
- Simon Wicks
@Mona, curious what you would say is the "best gadget" you've ever owned. I am thinking of the "gadgets" I've had over the course of my life and I think it's pretty high up there. There are certainly many tools and objects that have been more awesomer, but not a lot of gadgets...
- Clay Newton
absolutely. I also love the fact that it is changing the industry for the better. Take a look at phones pre-iPhone and post-iPhone, the difference is night and day!
- vijay
I am seriously thinking of getting the iPhone, my 'smartphone' is now dumb, a 2005 motorola. Do you have internet speed issues with your carrier? I would be using at&t because we get a discount through work.
- Janet
Janet - WAIT. The new iPhone is coming out soon.
- Mona Nomura
I wouldn't bet on a new iPhone until at least July... even then, the market has proved itself that you can sell your old one and make a PROFIT on a new one. If you want one, just get it.
- Bwana ☠
I haven't had any connections issues and it also picks up wifi nicely
- orionstarr
Janet, err. Um. The iPhone is only available (officially) through AT&T. So you're good! (Sorry for quoting the Verizon guy, adding to the confusion.)
- Jared B. Luther
Its da Best ... takes awesome pics , keeps my email close by .. twitter people ,,i love it
- johnpiercy
I was most excited about my Tom Scholz Rockman. I still have it.
- Martha
it's definitely the best phone and/or pda I have ever had
- Josh Haley
Martha...wow, Scholz Rockman...I still have mine. Great unit!
- Justin
Justin, I actually have two of them. It is still the coolest thing ever.
- Martha
If we're going there, I'm going with the Pre too.
- Jared B. Luther
Can't believe I held off this long. Looking for the mature "gotta have" product this summer.
- kilbuda
The commercial is right... Once you have one you wonder how you lived without it!
- orionstarr
Hmmm... it's the one device I've owned the longest. I go through toys every few months due my job, but I've had my first-gen iPhone since July of 2007. That's a record for any mobile device I've ever had of any kind. It will get retired this summer: for either a Pre, third-gen iPhone or *maybe* a BB. I'm leaning towards Pre at the moment.
- Kevin C. Tofel
nope.. It's an alright phone (but then, no phone has been perfect for me) but not the best gadget I've ever owned. That title is a split battle between my Palm T3, my NAS box or my old spectrum 128 +2 for introducing me to gaming.
- alphaxion
Probably, it's either the iPhone or my MacBook.
- Paul Grav
I have to say yes. Very versatile device and much more surfable than I originally thought. Plus a lot of fun since I imported my first iPhone from the US a year before it came to Europe, and hacked, localized and translated the interface, which again lead me to learn Cocoa Touch and ObjC. I may use my MBP for more things but that´s probably not a "gadget".
- Thomas Bøhm
It's not fair, I can't comment as I'm not an owner.
- Richard A.
Yes, the iPhone wins. No. 2 is my Lenovo U110 laptop.
- Jess Lee
I don't know what this says about me, but the first reaction I had, instead of "Sweet!", was: "how long can you stay in there before you asphyxiate?"
- Chester
Chester, that's funny because I thought the same thing when I saw it.
- Josh Begin
I see both disaster and extreme fun...at the same time.
- Krista Kerwood
So how long do you get before you suffocate?
- xero
I'm with you guys, how long till you choke? Also looks extremely fun...lol. Or you could drown....hrm...
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Like the title of this. You just can't slip anything past Mona now, can you?
- Akiva Moskovitz
You know if you could keep a constant temperature in there (or even just trap body heat), I could use it on some of my walks to work in the snow up here!
- Scott of Two Countries
poor little hamsters....to be burdened with such balls, and then to have people cut them off and use them as playthings....that's just a 'God Hates Me' kind of deal for the little furry ball-less creatures
- Morgan Haley
So far, the commenters on my site _don't_ want Twitter and FriendFeed to go mainstream. Do you want to keep these technologies to yourself?
- Louis Gray
I do, I'd say Twitter probably has the best shot right now. FF is still over the head of too many, they dont know (and dont want to know) about rss
- sean percival
I really hope with the continuous feature additions and improvements to FriendFeed, it would soon have a universal appeal. There are so many Nay-sayers but I'm behind them 220%. :) As for Twitter - I don't really use it anyway, so it doesn't make a difference. Although I would LOL if they were to start charging monthly fees. ie: Threaded replies are only for premium accounts haha
- Mona Nomura
This weekend I excitedly told an engineer-friend (hydrologist) about meeting the "inventor of RSS" last week. And he said "what's that?" -- Bastard.
- Brian Hendrickson
Twitter will go mainstream as people always want to be noticed. Friendfeed has a harder road because it is not about the user, it is about the information. If Friendfeed goes mainstream, it will be in a much different way, like a major research or news tool.
- Rob Diana
FF will go mainstream as soon as people realize that it's *not* about the information, it's about the conversation. Twitter in its current form is a megaphone broadcasting system a la FB status updates, without a realistic and understandable method of replying. FF on the other hand not only let's you share information, but creates a method to *discuss* it. It's biggest obstacle for going mainstream is the UI.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Tina, I mostly agree about the conversation, but the conversation is typically based on the information at this point. I think the amount of information that passes through will be too much for most people until better filters are in place. I admit, I tend to be very pessimistic when it comes to growth and mainstream adoption of most tech.
- Rob Diana
I am all for both apps hitting mainstream fast. Both serve excellent online communication needs. Twitter provides broadcasts and quick short replies; whereas FriendFeed provides the ability to share information and generate conversation / feedback regarding that info., which can blossom into an entire community around that topic. Twitter's challenge is stability, scalability and UI. FriendFeed's challenge is search, organization and UI.
- Susan Beebe
Rob, I can only base statements on my experience of course, and they're going to be affected by who follows me. With that said, my most engaging conversations on FF have usually been around a topic tossed up as a status update/question, not a link to an external post. Also, unlike FB and TW which offer a one to one conversation model (excepting FB groups), FF automatically offers a one to many conversation model.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
FriendFeed will go mainstream because it's a better medium than email for sharing links and news. I wrote in detail on this here: http://friendfeed.com/e...
- Bruce Lewis
from fftogo
couple quick comments: not everything needs to "go mainstream" to be a success, it is ok to fill a niche & some things are not products but rather features best integrated into or augmenting something else - i think friendfeed fits both these criteria (current and future) and i see that as a good thing personally...
- mike "glemak" dunn
@Mike - I've been thinking this too lately. What is "a success"? Is Apple a "success". They only have about 5% of the market of computers, yet I think there is a lot more media buzz about Apple unveiling a revised macbook than there is about Dell or HP introducing a revised 1050e or whatever they call them. If you get 1% of Americans using your product, that is 3 million people. That is a lot.
- Robert Felty
What is mainstream? 25% of US population? 10% of RSS/tech geeks? 1% of the world? 10% of people who would pay for this service? FF's current UX won't scale to a large population having lots of real conversations here. But it does serve a good niche (or two or three) right now. But what % of the world has/wants to have conversations like this? Mainstream would drive FF to be everything to everyone. Would we (as early adopters) still like it then?
- David Lee
I have a radical idea... how about Twitter just finds a way to make some money. Mainstream is great... but completely misses the point...
- Brian Roy
I am "mainstream", but I've been on FF for a year as of tomorrow.
- Anne Bouey
Has anyone else noticed the push the major media give to some services and not others? How often did Television Programming (news, sitcoms, talk shows) talk about "googling" something; did you ever hear them talk about "yahooing" or "asking" anything? Then it was myspace, myspace, myspace followed by Facebook. Makes me wonder if those who own the media heavily invest and then push their investments.
- Internet Strategist
Internet Strategist: media people just want to be cool. It's easy to understand why they push certain stuff. I do the same. I have no investments in anything.
- Robert Scoble
Will Twitter and FriendFeed become mere commodities, fed to the masses by media moguls, to sell their product ? Because that is their job. I think Twitter is becoming more mainstream, more noticed and talked about - but not generally understood. How would it be affected by advertising and ten times the traffic? FF will take longer to catch on, even though it is better. Twitter plants seeds that can be grown in FriendFeed.
- Chris Loft
frankly i don't think Joe the Plumber is really that interested in such a mass of content/dialogue, Facebook is about as much feed as an average person can handle. FF/Twitter are downright manic for them and they don't have/don't want the mental faculty to deal with the multiple perpetual conversations/topics - it creates more anxiety than fun and if it's not fun it's toast. Neither will get double digit % of the population using them
- Bob Sonin
OTOH, is text messaging considered mainstream yet in the U.S.? (I realize we lag way behind the rest of the world in this.) I don't think the "mainstream" can handle more than one technological breakthrough at a time :) I still know people who are even just getting used to using a computer.
- Victor Ganata
@Bob I think Twitter is so powerful that it can be used for many different purposes. Imagine a multi-dimensional Twitter with single or more refined services. For local councils, government, media companies, business services, geeks, gossip, etc. Each with their own customised Twitter serving their needs. This is where Twitter will produce an income stream; hiving itself off into customized services, without the noise.
- Chris Loft
i dont think it is a "we dont want it to go mainsteam" it is more of a "the technology isnt quite ready for it to go mainsteam, we couldnt handle all our friends and family and colleagues nattering on our feeds, we can barely handle the information flow at the moment". We need better filtering, a better way to have several spheres in parallel on these services.
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
(translating my previous comment in pragmatic speech:) I am happy to have all that crowd happily segragated on facebook sending each other quizzes, i dont want them coming on my FF and twitter. I love them to bits but they are, well, embarrassing! I don't want "what peanut character are you" on my friendfeed, and it will come with the mainstream
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
hmmm, this bubbled up so I re-read it. man, that was a great old post
- Sarah Perez
By old you mean 9 weeks, right Sarah? :-)
- Louis Gray
Just remember what comes with being mainstream...tons of spammers.
- April Russo (app103)
FriendFeed should go mainstream. Despite our selfish desire to want to keep it to ourselves, it is a smarter way for news and information to be disseminated that would benefit all once they are aware of it.
- Thomas Hawk
No question, when a service hits critical mass, the conversation will change. Look at YouTube - people are always bemoaning the boorish, illiterate nature of the comments there. Will we stick around when Scoble or Louis pose an interesting question and half the comments are spam and profanity?
- Laura Norvig
I don't want FF to go mainstream because then it will probably be blocked at work like FB, Myspace, etc...
- Josh Begin
some ppl should think what this service is about: aggregating the feeds of people you trust and like aka friends as in friendfeed :)
- Chris Hofmann
@Chris, that can be seen as the basic service, definitely, but the ability to converse about an item is what is giving this site stickiness and added value. At least, IMO.
- Laura Norvig
was trying to formulate a point, but then saw that Stupid Ninja said it even better above... so I'll just shut it and move on...
- Peter Efland
Depends on what I'm eating with the fries, but generally from this list: ketchup, some form of bbq sauce, honey mustard, ranch dressing. Have to give Matt Musgrave a +1 for a Wendy's Frosty though, they are a good combination.
- xero
Usually just ketchup, sometimes vinegar and ketchup, occasionally chili and cheese
- Alan Simpson
I usually just eat the fries as they are (because I'm usually eating fast food fries). They have to be salted just right, or else I don't like them. However, I am willing to try just about every sauce mentioned in this thread... (not on McD's fries, though) Mmmm!
- Cheryl Jones
Wow, I thought Fry sauce was a Utah thing, as I had never seen it until I moved here. Guess it must be more of a West Coast thing.
- Josh Begin
Usually I just have them plain, but sometimes ranch dressing, sour cream, or low fat cream cheese mixed with garlic powder.
- Alix Whitmire
Becoming a big fan of garlic mayonnaise on fries.
- Great Scott!
Oh this is where the fry sauce thread started. Good fries I can eat without anything, but I prefer Ketchup most times. Sometimes I'll mix the ketchup with a little bit of hot sauce. And then there's the burger drippings (fry sauce) sometimes. My all time favorite topping on fries is Cheddar Jack + Bacon, with a side of Ranch, AKA, Cheese fries. *dribble*
- Bwana ☠
Pretty much any good dipping sauce is fair game for me, except ketchup. Prefer spicy brown mustard, garlic mayo or the aforementioned cheese and bacon, which make everything better.

Ketchup and hot sauce are standards. Sometimes I like malt vinegar sprinkled on them, but I'm not sure that counts as a "sauce".

Ketchup, barbecue sauce or salt and vinegar, for what it's worth.
- Tyson Key
Barbecue sauce. I've never liked ketchup.

USB 3.0 will be unveiled next Monday, and so far the new specs for the protocol look incredible, promising 25GB transfers in a mere 70 seconds. To put that in perspective, the same transfer would take 13.9 minutes with the current USB 2.0 protocol and 9.3 hours on USB 1.0. Looks like the future of wired syncs and backups is bright and blazing.

What kind of bike? I don't know, I'm not a bike scientist. What I am though is a manly guy looking to sell his bike. This bike is made out of metal and kick ass spokes. The back reflector was taken off, but if you think that deters me from riding at night, you're way wrong. I practiced ninja training in Japan's mount Fuji for 5 years and the first rule they teach about ninja biking is that back reflectors let the enemy know where you are. Not having a rear reflector is like saying "FUCK YOU CAR, JUST TRY AND FIND ME".

"Continuing the idea of the two sides of the human character, have a look at the picture above. On the left is Dr Angry, and on the right is Mr Calm. Now, back away from your computer screen. This effect will work at different distances for different people, but you should see the two characters swap over...! As you come closer to the screen again, they revert to their original characters. Spooky or what!"

It is funny what shading will do to an image. Notice that the angry face has dark patches under the eyes. So does that mean that the dark bags under my eyes from lack of sleep will actually make me look calmer from a distance. Cool!
- Wizetux
cool - though they both struck me as angry initially
- mike "glemak" dunn
Yeah... the second one looks that scary-calm-mom-angry. Where she isn't saying anything, and when you ask, she says she's fine, but you just KNOW she's ready to bite somebody's head off. Or maybe that's just my mom.

My alarm clock has a setting for it to start out at a very low volume and then get increasingly louder. I wake up with the first very soft tone. What's your alarm sound?
I want one of those clocks but I need it to be digital or a very quiet analog. I cannot stand the sound of a ticking clock. Does your model meet that requirement?
- Michelle Jones
Imagine a cross between train wreck and fingernails on a chalk board at full volume right from the first.
- Jeremy Kunz
I used to set it to music but that stopped working so I've been using the default beeping sound. Half the time I'm so sleep deprived that I don't even realize I've turned off the first 2 alarms. Which is why I also have my cellphone set to go off. I know. Ridiculous. :)
- ♥patricia♥
Michelle, if you are asking me, mine is digital and it silent.
- RAPatton
I use a radio to wake up - alarm beeps "scare" me awake too badly - but I really like the light clock. Hmm... RAPatton, do you have any recommendations?
- Ladybug Heather
The alarm clock I had before this one didn't have this setting. So, I had to set it loud to be sure I heard it. I hated being startled awake though.Very rarely do I sleep through the first beep any more even though it is very soft. Of course, here lately, I've been awake about an hour before I have it set. :(

my alarm clock is just like this one! I usually wake-up with news on the radio, sometimes I wake up with a CD

I get up naturally without an alarm clock every day somewhere between 3 and 5 a.m.
- Thomas Hawk
The first ring is normal. The second ring is greatly enhanced by my wife's yelling at me to get the f**k up.
- Bora Zivkovic
An awful beeping. It's supposed to be a little digital song but it's just annoying.
- Rochelle
I wake up to the Timba sound on my iPhone. But it takes several snoozes.
- Carmen
I wake up around 7ish each morning. No Alarm, unless I need to specifically get up earlier. Having to get up with an alarm means that you're not naturally getting enough sleep
- Ian May
i don't use an alarm. i just wake up when the sun hits my face.
- Jon Lee
"Rock the Casbah" ringtone on my iPhone

"Wake Up" by Rage Against the Machine, I use Alarm for my PC and it too gets louder over time. I find it effective to have my computer screaming WAKE UP!!! When I need to get up. :)
- Aram Zucker-Scharff
Music for me. @Parth you have a milkman? Wow, those were the good old days. Does the milk come in bottles or cartons?

I also use my phone, with a custom ringer of the Beastie Boys' "Mark On The Bus".... it starts out with: "Good Morning, Time to get up and go to work!!!!"
- Neil Bernhart
beepbeepbeepbeep beepbeepbeepbeep beepbeepbeepbeep - that's the sound it makes.

Default ringer on my cell phone. I know, lame. I'm also interested to know which light clock RAPatton has now that it's dark when I get up.

Park Life! Anyway, I start off with BBC voices at 4:30am on one clock, then later two other clocks join in with loud beeping. I still manage to sleep through the cacophony sometimes... very annoying.

Non Sequitor, but I thought of you this morning. I was on Golden Gate and Polk and looked down towards City Hall and the lights on the cross walk were blinking and it was all beautiful and dusky and foggy, and I thought "Where's Thomas Hawk when you need him?"
