We have a feeling this is going to happen with increasing frequency as airlines continue to bleed once-loyal customers for extra revenue: Greg Dean, the cartoonist behind Real Life Comics, has had enough of United gouging him. First it was the second checked bag fee, then the first checked bag fee. Then they doubled the pet-in-cabin fee to $175 each way, which works out to more than the cost of a human round-trip ticket. - Josh Chandler

"Two words: Ink Smears. Whenever we try to write with ink we always end up smearing our writing beyond recognition." - Shey via Bookmarklet
Left handers need to unite. It is time that the smarter ones took over the world...again! - Mike L
That's what you get for living in a right-handed universe (it's true - ask any scientist) - klecu
Obama is a lefty.. Your well on your way to total world domination - Chris W
Here's the big one: Boomerangs. There's just no way a "regular" boomerang will return to a person throwing with their left hand, it's impossible. - Shey
I can relate to most of these annoyances, especially the smearing ink. I remember coming home from school when I was a kid with blue ink stains on the side of my hand. - Evan Brown
All pens and pencils are right handed. Why? When you hold them in your left hand as if to write, any words written on them appear upside down. Yes, I am left handed and only a left handed person would notice such a thing. - Jason Kaneshiro
Did someone ask for the Leftorium? http://simpsons.wikia.com/wiki... - Wizetux
lol +1 Jason - Shey
@Jason, well that clearly depends on how you hold the pen/pencil in your hand more than whether you are left or right handed. - Wizetux
I was forced to learn Right handed writing. Then I broke my right arm twice, and noticed that I was really liking writing with my left hand (nooo! screamed my teacher) and well now I write with my Right. But I am left eye and hand dominate...Grrrr! - Susan Beebe
@Shey - there are left-handed Boomerangs (it's just a mirror image), and they fly in the opposite circle :) - Jennifer Dittrich
@Susan My mom did that with my twin brothers! Since they were babies she was always moving stuff from their left hands to their right - Shey
This is gonna sound really lame, but I have an attraction to left-handed guys. Something about that unusualness really is sweet and endearing to me. - Derrick
I'm a lefty and damn proud of it. 2 of my 3 children are right handed but there is still hope that my 3rd child will be a lefty and therefore brilliant, like me :P - Penny
We lefties are sinister. - Jack Carlson
@Wizetux, I haven't met any left handers who write with the eraser end, or hold their pens and pencils so their hands are completely turned around backwards. If you're right handed, sit with a pencil in your left hand for a while and you'll see what I'm talking about. - Jason Kaneshiro
Interesting post, and while I agree with some points, not others. For example I don't believe there's a left handed way of eating, I mean how hard is it to hold a knife if your right hand? (I'm left handed and not even remotely ambidextrous). Same with a computer + mouse...a left handed keyboard? wtf? - Duncan Riley
Ink smears are the worst! - Head Ov Metal
Southpaw here - Hutch Carpenter
Scissors should be in first spot though. I still struggle to use right handed scissors - Duncan Riley
yeah, i surf goofy-foot too! we left-handers are more creative... and accident-prone. .LOLz - .LAG
+1 LAG lol it's true. But that's not because we're clumsy! It's a right-handedness conspiracy to eliminate southpaws - Shey
@Duncan I would agree - Shey
Write in Arabic or Japanese :) - ♣genieyclo♣
I'm hoping NatSpeak or equivalent gets embedded in small devices so I can dictate. Mad Men secretary bot optional :-) - Richard Walker
Left Hand == Right Mind - Kevin Johnson
I'm a lefty named Wright. Talk about conflicted. I growl at scissors, can't fly in a window seat, and can openers give me the fits. I'm always shocked when someone sees me write and they ask - You're a lefty??! Why yes I am! - Nice Fish Films
Damn ink smears. After essay tests I have to use Lava soap. - Stellina
I got so used to using regular scissors that whenever my teachers would force me to use the lefty ones I'd curse them! (Well, I wanted to, anyway.) Lefty scissors are so backward to this lefty!! - Oliver Ortega Chua
After looking at the list... I've pretty much learned to live with most of the list. The one I have the most problem with is the playing cards. People always look at me funny when I hold them. Of course, I can't use lefty ones unless I'm playing solitaire. And, oh, now I know why I've never been able to throw a boomerang!! lol - Oliver Ortega Chua
So Arabic and Hebrew are against righties? - Chuck LeDuc Díaz
lefty, forced to write righty as I grew up. - Michael J. Cohen (mjc)
♣genieyclo♣ has a point, blame the english language for not being readable both ways. - Michael J. Cohen (mjc)

Overall, this seems to be a little bit of internet paranoia. But it does make you think, just make sure you read that privacy policy to check what companies are doing with those logins. Twitterank leave a "reassuring" message about their use for your logins: "I'm not out to steal ur twitterz. Frankly, I wish I didn't have to ask for your account info, but Twitter doesn't offer APIs using any other authentication mechanism (according to the docs). So blame them. Read more about what I'll do with your account info/data in the FAQ. I will not store your password. I will only use it once to calculate your Twitterank." What do you reckon? - Josh Chandler
My decision is to provide primary e-mail (or any other important account) login/password only in the case that the site is old enough (few years would be enough), have fine reputation and using it is really necessary for me. If not, just don't use this service. - Anton
The most obvious option is to just not sign up for a service right away. Wait a few weeks, months, or heck, even years. If the service was not worthy of your time, it will have died by then. Early adopter behavior isn't always the smartest, and there's a reason it's not the norm. - Jason Kaneshiro
Early adopters do help a little to set the wheels into motion, the early adopters understand the importance of a product being successful and help to create a community buzz around a newly launched site! - Josh Chandler
Josh, absolutely true, being reasonable is the best thing a person can do to protect him/herself from potential scammers so reading FAQ must be a must for us while startups that need to offer things that can be viewed insecure by users should really bother to provide enough answers to the questions that may arise. - Svetlana Gladkova
Anton, it's definitely a very reasonable approach but unfortunately I can hardly remember when I last visited a website that is a few years old (excluding Google and several online presences of some newspapers). So I myself still rely on recommendations from other users looking to make my decision on this or that particular site - or on building some trustful relations with the team behind a very new site in some cases. - Svetlana Gladkova
Jason, very true and I have to agree with you sometimes. And I guess this is exactly why the early adopters often serve as testers to make sure those who arrive later will not be affected by potential threats. - Svetlana Gladkova

Matt Asay, open source blogger for CNET, got some eye-opening feedback from CTOs about their use of open source. As with many other aspects of business, money speaks louder than freedom alone, but freedom isn't a bad bonus. The whole thing happened at the New York CTO Club, where Matt talked with CTOs from all across the map about open source. What he learned about the way companies use open source might well serve as a model for what to expect if you're planning on offering an open source product. - Josh Chandler

People just realized that the gossip from Valleywag just wasn't that relevant as mentioned in the link. It seems that for serious discussion to occur we need to omit Valleywag from our minds and continue to focus on forward thinking, I don't want to sound too serious with that point but many people wasted time on that site (2,748,004 according to Quantcast http://tinyurl.com/6ktzhp) and it just simply marred the industry with indecent information. Our college is still very undecided it seems, because our web filters let it through some of the time and we all use it in incredibly but I think companies need to get it out their head that Facebook is out to destroy their company infrastructure, if they actually went and researched the collaboration behind it, heck the social side of it even works for some new comers to college in the UK (http://www.guardian.co.uk/educ...) - Josh Chandler
Josh, I guess universities and corporations must have different views on use of Facebook but as a rule I believe that it is easier to block something you don't understand and make up your mind later when you finally figure out the dangers it can potentially bring. - Svetlana Gladkova
This is the one innovation hurdle it seems right now companies and intitutions such as college don't want to overcome. Come guys, it has true benefit if used in the right way why can't you find the time to do a little research? - Josh Chandler
Ori, In some ways because a big company such as AT&T have sponsored this study it could add some valuable weight behind the idea, however companies just learnt too quickly that employees waste time on Facebook, Myspace etc etc. However, there was an interesting article today from the Washington Post about how Social networking should be adapted to goverment (http://tinyurl.com/6okrqc), a start right? - Josh Chandler
