I think it'd be cold in the 4 hours it takes to drive there anyway. Once the finances settle down a little, I need to make a trip to Houston soon anyway. My Mom's 60th birthday is in November, so probably around then. FF Meetup! :D

I can duplicate this skill in November, methinks. :) C'mon over

I'm fueled by Mountain Dew and episodes of Dead Like Me at the moment. I'm conserving that energy since I'll be using it to digest steaks and beer soon. I don't see much chance of my getting out of my chair except to refill my plate and get another cold one.

Watched The Dark Knight again, on xbmc. Still the best one of all, imo. Killed about 50 gummy bears. Thinking of changing my middle name to Sloth.

the rate of speed indicates the number of ff items posted per minute, of them, their friends and their likes ....../// well, how long can you, do you, stare on this spin post? I did 2 minutes ...

Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help and if you can find them maybe you can hire The Fundercats... Sorry; first thing to pop in to my mind.

You should charge for it, and then people can say, "Hey, Jonathan Hardesty found a way to monetize FriendFeed, because that what you should do with Web 2.0 properties, you should monetize them, because that's what really matters with things, especially with the way the economy is now, because you have to create value, and also you need to search optimize things so that we can easily index your searches so we can monetize them and give you the Google Juice and then make blogging a revenue generating machine which synergizes with the new paradigms of Web content, because we need to make sure we can monetize Web 2.0 so it doesn't die and becomes a worthwhile venture for venture captialists, because otherwise they won't invest in new properties and then OMG THE INTERNET WILL DIE!!!!!!11" Wait, what were we talking about again? - Mike Nayyar

interesting. I've tried a few times to get animated images to work on FF without success.. I guess piping it through twitpic might be the answer!
- veo
veo, yeah Twitpic, RSS (MediaRSS), Delicious, Tumblr all seem to work. There are more than that but those come to mind.
- Josh Haley
Just one question, Josh: are you by chance spinning on 9 different Aeron chairs that were a steal after the first dot-com bubble burst? The future of the internets: you're looking at it =)
- Micah Wittman
could anybody describe how to create such a picture? thx
- Arnaud Fischer
Arnaud, see http://friendfeed.com/mokarga... for tips. And Josh correct me if I'm wrong, he uploaded to Twitpic the same animated GIF 9 times, then created a friendfeed post and attached all 9 images by URL (instead of choosing images from his hard drive). Images coming from twitpic, soup.io, etc will animate, but photos hosted by friendfeed itself won't.
- Micah Wittman
Did not sleep well with all the spinning. :p
- Josh Haley
via iPhone
It's infinitely more amusing when they don't all load at the same time. Spinning chaos!!!
- Curtis Jackson
Why the friendfeed limitation on animated .gifs? It seems arbitrary and odd to me. I could see wanting to limit filesize (animated .gifs can get large) but you can upload huge .jpgs without any trouble.
- veo
Mesmerizing like a lava lamp. Hey! You are a 'Lame-o Lamp'! And you might want to call the folks in the makeup department and get that forehead de-sheened. Remember, your forehead is an alternate landing site for the Space Shuttle - And you don't want to blind the crew on their final approach, do you? :-)
- Morgan Haley
Good luck trying to land anything on that while it's moving. :p I can always count on my brother.
- Josh Haley
OMG! That should be the next installment at some fluecy deucy art museum!!! AWESOME. :) It's like whack-a-mole... I keep trying to figure out which one will show your face next and for some reason I'm always wrong.
- Lindsay is :)
Thanks, Lindsay! :) I think that's the first time someone described wanting to systematically hit me on the head repeatedly, yet have it come off as a compliment. I would love to take credit like I was Andy Warhol or something, but alas I was just tired and felt like doing something silly. :p
- Josh Haley
via iPhone
yep, what Lindsay said. That was one of the first bona-fide instances I've seen of using Friendfeed as a medium for net art. You could get in the Whitney & stuff. GOOD JOB
- Kamilah Gill
LOL! I actually didn't mean it the way it came out (the hitting you on the head part, the compliment part is ok ;)). But I'm in tears laughing when I read your reply. Whack-a-mole always frustrated the heck out of me... I did a lot more staring than hitting when I tried to play. It was mesmerizing.
- Lindsay is :)
you wait - the scary part of this comes when one of these ffoodoo heads stops turning, starts grimmacing and talking to you ..... have you seen one of these heads actually get up off the chair and curse the world??? ... the seeming dissynchronicity, the haphazard discord with which these dollheads turn might drive you ...nuts
- Petr Buben
But I don't WANT a post the most offensive possible while staying safe for work picture with :( as the heading meme! The meme committee forbids it!

Do your balls hang low? do they wabble to and fro? Can you tie them in a knott? Can you tie them in a bow? Can you throw them over your shoulder like a contenental solgier? Do your nuts hang low?
- Fake Elmo
Nuts or balls, Elmo? (I bet that gets said all the time)

Those would be far more impressive than the set dangling from the back of my pickup currently. Is there anything more classy than a scrotum hanging from the back of your car.

I have a Harmony 1100 and love it! It was very easy to set up.
- Jeff P. Henderson
Ronin, for me and my current setup, no. And the feel of the buttons on this thing is cheap crap. This remote sucks donkey balls and Fry's will be getting it back soon. They didn't have the One, although I bet it is a bit too expensive right now anyways. I am very disappointed. :(
- Josh Haley
We're on our second Harmony having recently upgrade from an 880 to a Harmony One. Liked the 880; love the One.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Is the One all grippy buttons? I can't stand the cheapy plastic clicky clicky buttons, of which the 550 has many.
- Josh Haley
Can't TiVo just be contracted out to make all remotes? They really know what they're doing. I want to use my TiVo remote for everything, yet I cannot.
- Josh Haley
Akiva, how's the diNovo Mini working out for controlling the xbmc box? I tried to teach this POS remote to do what my cheap MCE remote does and now all the main commands are up in the cheap-ass clicky clacky buttons at the top. So so so so so so lame. Was hoping there really was one controller to control them all, but looks like anything to do with the PC is going to need to be a separate controller. :p
- Josh Haley
Horrible remote to get to know Harmony on. I recommend a 670 or 680. Great for DVR.
- Gunny The Fuzzball ™
OK, just got back from returning this. Now weighing options between the Harmony 680, 880 and One. Any thoughts would be appreciated
- Josh Haley
Take a look at the Universal Remote brand of remotes http://www.universalremote.com/ I won't buy another Harmony. Their remotes tend to be very slow from my experiences.
- Alex Scoble
Thanks Alex. Are you using one now? What model do you use or if not, which would you prefer?
- Josh Haley
i freakin love my 880. (disclosure: never tried any of the others.)
- Carlos Ayala
No, right now I'm using the Monster Cable AVR-300 which is a high end remote based on the Harmony 890. Since I got them for free, I'm kind of locked in for now. You can go here to see some reviews of UR remotes that Gonk has reviewed http://www.prillaman.net/ht_dvd_... I've linked his review of the Oppo BluRay player before for instance.
- Alex Scoble
wow Alex, you actually own something made by Monster? I might be flabbergasted.
- Carlos Ayala
Josh, I would never again in my life not have something like the diNovo Mini for controlling an HTPC. It's great for XBMC as well as just controlling the computer overall (and playing Sims 3!). In fact, it makes me wish I could control the rest of my equipment with it.
- Akiva Moskovitz
My friend worked there for a few years. He got me the remote to blog about it. I ended up with my brother's as a backup because the remote was acting flaky, but both are very slow. I also own two Monster THX sub towers as well, but again I got them at significant discount and they are pretty good (but not worth retail price).
- Alex Scoble
Akiva, thanks for that input. I was hoping to not have to rely on another device for the xbmc box, but eventually, at least I know what to shoot for. Thanks.
- Josh Haley
Alex, thanks again for the info. Carlos...does your 880 go slow on you at all? Which devices are you controlling with it?
- Josh Haley
Well, you can control XBMC just fine with a Harmony. It's just we kept having XBMC crash on us (if you lose connectivity while streaming, XBMC is guaranteed to lock up) so we always had to have a second keyboard and mouse laying around just to bounce out of XBMC and restart it. We also use the diNovo for when we want to stream stuff like FFundercats.
- Akiva Moskovitz
I'm currently using a predecessor to the RF20 and it's not bad. Although my remote requirements aren't really that sophisticated. Programming wasn't too hard although I do remember not being able to duplicate some functions from my receiver remote. May have gotten better since then since it's been 3-4 years. It does have the rubbery keys although overall it's not as flashy as the Logitechs.
- ronin
I wish FFundercats could be sponsored by the diNovo and make billions. I'd buy Johnny a mic.
- Josh Haley
not really josh. currently its controlling: the plasma, the onkyo, and the directv box. it also runs my activities for the ps3 (but cannot control it). ive had other devices on it but have been taken out of the loop recently. (oh yeah and my polk sub too.)
- Carlos Ayala
I have the one that was made for the Xbox 360. I LOVE the way you can program it from your PC, but TBH in the end it's often a lot faster to just pick up the native remote than rummage through a gazillion menus to switch from the AV Receiver to the cable box just so I can change a channel. OTOH, it is a LOT better than the absolute disaster of a remote that shipped with my Denon receiver. Denon needs to give 1998 their remote back, seriously
- LANjackal

"With their usual skill, Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson have taken ideas left behind by Frank Herbert and filled them with living characters and a true sense of wonder. Where Paul of Dune picked up the saga directly after the events of Dune, The Winds of Dune begins after the events of Dune Messiah. Paul has walked off into the sand, blind, and is presumed dead. Jessica and Gurney are on Caladan; Alia is trying to hold the Imperial government together with Duncan; Mohiam dead at the hands of Stilgar; Irulan imprisoned. Paul’s former friend, Bronso of Ix, now seems to be leading opposition to the House of Atreides. Herbert and Anderson’s newest book in this landmark series will concentrate on these characters as well the growing battle between Jessica, and her daughter, Alia. The Winds of Dune is scheduled to be released by Tor Books on August 4, 2009."

*Stumbles in* Pardon me. Sorry, is this the group about dune buggies. You know, Schlep Car, that kind of thing. If it's generally about the Krofft brothers children's programming in general, I think I'm in the right place. K. Thx. Bye =)

Another Dune book!? I thought that series was long over, including the prequels and side-quests.

Just got one of these. Plugged it in last night. I love it, for my first blu-ray player ever.
- Josh Haley
Netflix on this is WAY clearer than via Media Center (via Silverlight). It takes a while for a netflix title to get going, but it is VERY high quality thereafter. BD quality was amazing. Still need to try DVDs tonight for upscaling.
- Josh Haley
Nice. I would totally get this one if I had the moneys for it. I've been eyeing Blu-Ray players lately and this one definitely appeals to me. Keep me posted on how it goes! :)
- Jonathan Hardesty
Yeah, the video quality from any of the hardware players is well above the web Netflix stream. Don't know if that will change when silverlight 3 comes out, but there's a marked difference (better framerate, less/no tearing)
- Richard Lawler
It plays my Pandora lists too, but that's a non-essential bonus. Jon, the MSRP on these are like 299, but you can find them for 219 or so now. It will keep going down I bet, through xmas time.
- Josh Haley
And the remote for this is WAY more comfortable than the TANK that came with my Samsung TV. But all of that is about to change anyway. :)
- Josh Haley
Yeah, I think I might keep an eye out for some good price drops as the Blu-Ray players are nearing that price range where I am willing to shell out the coin..
- Jonathan Hardesty
Keeping my eye on the price on this one. I'd rather have one that could double ad a dlna player so I am leaning toward a PS3.
- Gunny The Fuzzball ™
Well, it does have an interface for playing back video, music and photos on a USB device, if you plugged in a huge-ass external USB drive, that might do the trick in a pinch. Like I said though, GREAT first player.
- Josh Haley
I like all of the great features, but I was really impressed with the picture quality. For a player at this price level, it did a great job with dark scenes and black levels.
- CJ Guest
Would be a great choice if it weren't for the flip-down front panel. I'll never understand why manufacturers do this.

She was SO perfect for the role of Jessica. I just didn't like when she got a little too panicky when she was being chased by a worm with Paul.
