Ah, was it January? Hmm. My conundrum is this: Have a MacBook Pro with '08 and a new iMac from May with no iWork at all. So now when I buy iWork, I have to get two licenses / family pack. Not sure if I should get '09 now or wait for '10 if it's soon (save money)... Running Office 2007 via VMware on the iMac for now. But let's be honest, it's no iWork. :-)
- Josh McConnell
actually don't need family pack. I found 09 worth it.
- Carey Lumeng
from iPhone
Don't need a family pack? I thought it would only install on one computer? Heard Apple actually keeps a pretty tight leash on their software...
- Josh McConnell
I have a MacBook and an iMac and just use one license. Haven't had a problem.
- Nick in Manila
You should be able to copy the iwork 08 files from your macbook to your imac and just use the same serial key. Apple does not keep a tight leash on their software, they rely on the honor system if you will. You're SUPPOSED to only use it for one computer unless it's the family pack, but if you're stuck, they don't have very strict activation processes because that would be very annoying...

I know this is ages old now, but I thought I would add .... you don't need two licences anyway. If you read the licence for iWork 09 carefully (and any Apple software, except their OS X upgrades) you are allowed to install it on one desktop and one laptop machine with only one licence as long as they will not be used simultaneously and are both owned by the same individual. You always get two licences for the price of one with Apple, as long as one is on a desktop and one is on a laptop.

"Balsillie's lawyers also told the court during Wednesday's 90-minute hearing he is willing to extend a self-imposed deadline to complete the sale to Dec. 31, in order to give the NHL time to find a local owner. Should the league succeed, he will simply walk away."

"On the weekend, Balsillie upped the value of his bid for the club to a possible top-end value of US$242.5 million -- a figure that includes the price of the team purchase, as well as compensation for the city of Glendale, Ariz., should he be successful in relocating the team to Hamilton."
- Josh McConnell

Agreed. I'm having a hard time believing the courts can turn this deal down, now that Glendale is getting an excellent chunk of coin from it. The article makes an excellent point saying they have to look out for the internet of the creditors. Only thing holding it back is Bettman...
- Josh McConnell
Bettman is an idiot for many reasons, but especially for investing in markets that don't yield profitable outcomes. Bring the game to the fans, dimwit.
- Shey, Jamaican of FF
I'm convinced that no matter what giant sum of money Balsillie offers he's not going to get approval. Bettman will never give in. It is time to find a replacement or this league is going to be in trouble.
- Kenton
Abby, the NHL should do the right thing and send the team back to Winnipeg. :)
- Bill Sodeman
@Kenton: but when push comes to shove, is it not the bankruptcy court that is going to decide since there are creditors involved? Or is it, in fact, Bettman who gets the final say? If this is the case, then why go to the courts at all when clearly the NHL is bidding for it too?
- Josh McConnell
Jim Balsillie is the man. I wish he was buying the Leafs.
- Garin Kilpatrick
@Josh, I don't know. I *think* the NHL and board of governors have the final say as to where the franchise can go, but I don't know that for sure.
- Kenton
correct me if I'm rong but isn't the auction (when it goes 2 auction) open to anyone ?
- S.D.Allen
from IM
I think anyone can bid, and purchase the team. The issue is really whether it can be moved or not. I think the NHL as the frachisor has the say in that regard. The fact that the team can't make money where it is makes it very unattractive to potential buyers if they were to get the same treatment as Balsillie.
- Kenton
I hope so. Guess we will find out soon enough! Isn't the auction tomorrow (Sept 10th)?
- Josh McConnell
LOL, Paul I thought exactly the same thing about the "free" video camera. Wondering if you could just download it and stick on your existing Nano.

- S.D.Allen
Haha. It's true. I thought that was pretty funny when we called in the army. I know Toronto doesn't get much snow, but it's still Canada!
- Josh McConnell
Generally speaking, all Canadians are very nice people. But going from a small Ontario town to Toronto inevitably means losing that small town charm.

Josh, i use zagg, http://www.zagg.com/ ( invisishield ). It's really good, but after some time, it's color turns to pink and starts to collect dust.

I definitely prefer mine without a case. My only concern is dropping it on a hard surface. Ha. Wish there was something to protect it from that while also not being too bulky.
- Josh McConnell
I have an invisibleSHIELD on the screen and then an incase sliding case. Minimalistic look to help preserve the beauty of the iPhone and I don't have to worry about scratches, etc.

incase slip case. Its flat black with a little bit of grip to it.. you can hardly tell the phone is in a case + the bottom slips off to dock with no problems. They were sold out the first 2 weeks the iphone 3g came out.

"The move toward live-action and reality shows with a tilt toward preteen and teenage boys is not happening on a whim. I wonder if they're gonna try to resurrect the type of TV nickelodeon used to produce in the 90's...
- alphaxion
Unfortunately, that would just make too much sense for them to do that. Pinwheel would single-handedly turn that network around.
- Brad Williamson
The Cartoon Network is going downhill in ratings and viewership because even kids/tweens know that today's cartoons absolutely suck. They don't have the classic touch of cartoons from the 40s and 50s (Looney Tunes), 60s/70s (Scooby Doo, Jetsons, Flintstones), and even some of them into the 80s/90s were pretty solid. Throwing in live action isn't going to help the situation, they just need better cartoons. You can tell the execs are only in it for the money when looking at today's shows.
- Josh McConnell
they need to produce cartoons that are produced with kids in mind, not spin off merchandise lines. As a kid of the 80's (when the disease of merchandising really became obvious) we still had some entertaining cartoons - duck tales, rescue rangers, mask, thundercats, ulysees31, dogtanion, 80 days around the world, mysterious cities of gold, dungeons and dragons, galaxy high,...

Howard Bloom of Sportsbusinessnews.com says that with the ruling, Balsillie has to be considered the frontrunner for ownership of the franchise. Only because his is probably the highest bid at this moment.
- S.D.Allen
Well, that's true, as the other two offers are pretty poor. But a lot of people's dreams were pretty dashed when they heard the NHL unanimously voted that Balsillie shouldn't have a team. They didn't realize the bankruptcy court still hadn't decided on his bid. ha. Personally, I think he still has a good shot at this after the latest ruling.
- Josh McConnell
I hope he gets it -- He's the kind of owner they need.
