i just read something about this today.. .apparently it makes people vomit... let me know how it goes. - jenna
My copy should be arriving sometime this week. If I can't make it in to work. you'll know why. - Mihai Parparita
For the first time I've found myself in a position to actually care about whether I should get a game for the 360 or the PS3. Apparently the PS3 has some undisclosed 'extra content' but I greatly prefer the 360 controller. Anyone have any insights into platform differences for this game? - Kevin Fox
I played the 360 demo and found the controls to be quite cumbersome - I'm going to wait for the PC version and play with my tried-and-true FPS controls of WASD+Mouse - Nathan Chase
@Kevin--for me the only diff. besides the controllers would be the multiplayer. That and the 360 drive noise is annoying--unless you've got a big HDD and can rip it to your drive with this week's dash update :) - Josh
Kev - in general I prefer the 360 controller also. But this game is much, much better with the PS3 controller. I tried the demos on both systems and the 360 controller just got in the way. That, along with the better graphics engine making sure your eyes don't stress too much from the all the white - is the reason I got it for the PS3. Great game if only for the experience for moving through the world. Cutscenes are awful and the story is just okay. There is a demo on PS3 also if you want to test it. - Nida
My copy arrived last night. While there are definitely very enjoyable moments, I'm still not good enough with my timing that I end up dying quite often. The re-spawn/auto-save points are spaced far enough that I end up having to redo enough of my path for it to feel tedious/like "work." Still liking it better than Assassin's Creed (to which it's been compared). - Mihai Parparita
I couldn't finish Assassin's Creed (for the PC, but playing it with a gamepad). Not because it's hard, but because it's so repetitive; I want to see more of the present-day story but I can't get myself to run through the same city, do the same rooftop antics, kill the same kind of guards, over and over again. - Tudor Bosman
"Please help! I took my husband's i-phone and found a raunchy picture of him attached to an e-mail to a woman in his sent e-mail file (a Yahoo account). When I approached him about this (I think that he is cheating on me) he admitted that he took the picture but says that he never sent it to anyone. He claims that he went to the Genius Bar at the local Apple store and they told him that it is an i-phone glitch: that photos sometimes automatically attach themselves to an e-mail address and appear in the sent folder, even though no e-mail was ever sent. Has anyone ever heard of this happening? The future of my marriage depends on this answer! " - Josh

Last week I uploaded a video mid-day and it said 385 min before it would be processed. About 15 min later I got an email that the video was ready. I wasn't complaining. - Kevin Shannon
@Kevin--that's nice when it works the other way. In this case, I just got a "holding pattern: there was a problem processing your video. We're going to try it again in a little bit--it might take a few hours." - Josh
Agree... I always find myself clicking on nonexistent links to find more info. - Juan Pablo González
I wonder about this also. I seem to get these spikes all the time and the views of the top viewed pix don't seem to correspond with the spike. - gfurry
this happened to me last week as well. my most recent public photo has been viewed over 800 times, but none of them have been credited to my total view count. perplexing. : ) - carlotta fancypants
Hopefully Flickr will extend their analytics package -- need more numbers plz! - Shey
I could never figure out Flickr stats -- there seem to be a whole bunch of conflicting, irreconcilable numbers. That being said -- isn' t there enough info in the referring stats to tell you where the traffic comes from? - Brian Sullivan
the flickr referrer list might give you a hint - any surprise referrer? - Joelle Nebbe
I would like to see better stats/analytics for PRO members too...make me feel like I'm getting more for my $--even if it's artificial differentiation. - Josh
omg that's so true... i found out that this pic of my cat licking his balls was quoted on some really random japanese blog amongst other cat pics resulting in a spike. WTF internet ... WTF! - Snipergirl
doesn't the referring link on that photo show you where the large number of views are coming in from? - Thomas Hawk
If it's the same thing that happened to me last month, it's 1 or 2 views of every photo on my stream in one day. Referrers didn't help - in fact I never did figure it out. - TreJack
It only does so for the last day. The analytics package is very weak compared to say what Google Analytics can do. Heck, if Flickr allowed Pro users to enter an Analytics account number for their pages, that would be a huge win. - Jauder Ho
We all just gotta remember that Flickr's first and foremost priority is their site/app. They've never been the go to guy for analytics software. - Rich Harris
Are you kidding? Google will be cannibalizing its Picasa product (though who cares any more about Picasa) by enhancing Flickr, a Yahoo product. Unfortunately for Google, Yahoo does own some nice intellectual property which suffers from some Yahooness in terms of anemic features. - Glenn Batuyong
It seems to be spread across a lot of my photos. Only a handful of my pics have had this amount of views in total. - Chris Nixon
Not a heavy flickr user but I totally agree with you - AJ Batac
I think it must be a glitch. None of my most popular photos had particularly large views on that date, - Chris Nixon
the overall referrals should show a spike of that size. Very doubtful it was internal within flickr. - Ryan Brenizer
Seriously I had the exact same thing happen last month. Every photo in my stream got two or three hits, with nothing in the referrals. The stats don't go back that far, so I can't research it now, but I'll be curious if you figure out what happened... - TreJack
Upload by email for Flikr is nice, but I've been very fond of the Pixelpipe app. It's even easier to select, tag, and upload one or multiple photos, and it goes to different places (Flikr, Tumblr, etc). I just wish I had more photos worth uploading. - Ryan Twomey

On my desk, behind a pile of notes, sits a scanner. After a bit of fiddling, I think I found a pretty nice way to scan directly into Evernote that will work for a majority of scanners. I am currently using a Mac, but there are similar methods that could be used on Windows as well.
The setup is quite simple... - Josh

"Sleeping for less than seven and a half hours a night can raise the risk of heart disease by up to four times, say scientists.
They blamed the modern trend towards shorter nights' sleep for increasing the risk of suffering a heart attack or stroke.
The average Briton gets seven hours' sleep, but a third regularly have five hours or less. The researchers identified the problem among those with high blood pressure. They studied 1,255 patients with the condition over an average period of 23 months.
Participants were aged between 33 and 97, with an average age of 70.
Of the total, 1,007 slept for more 7.5 hours a night and 248 for less. Getting under 7.5 hours of sleep was associated with a 27 per cent increase in the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
But it was far more hazardous for the minority of patients whose blood pressure goes up during the night.
Their likelihood of experiencing a heart attack or stroke, or dying suddenly because of a fatally irregular heart rhythm, more than quadrupled when - RAPatton

Since the time change, I've been consistently getting a minimum of 8 hours, and I usually get 6 and a half or 7. I would try to get 9 if I could, but there's that life thing. I'm just too busy. :( - Derrick
Shit. I only get 6 hours maximum a night. It's been nice knowing you. - Grant Fitzgerald
but again the real factor is "does your blood pressure go up over night or not" - Joelle Nebbe

wonderful. Let's just scare me more... Why can't I just live my life the way I want and not worry about heart risk?! - Les Zaldor

this is why I sleep more than 8 hours a day :) just kidding..but I do love sleeping. - Anna Lynn M.
Joelle is right. the headline is not accurate. "Getting under 7.5 hours of sleep was associated with a 27 per cent increase in the risk of heart attacks and strokes. " it's if in addition your blood pressure goes up during the night that your risk is quadrupled - edythe
damn, and I usually sleep less than 5 a night :( - ♣genieyclo♣
The study tells us nothing about whether or not someone in their late 20s/early 30s without pre-existing high blood pressure would have an increased risk of suffering a heart attack or stroke. I still believe that not getting enough sleep is bad for you, but that's not an evidence-backed statement. - Victor Ganata

who couldn't see this coming? So much commerce is going online. Why would anyone shop here for anything serious. High commission sales people trying to sell you extended warranties on things that you don't need in the first place. - Thomas Hawk
I hate these stores as much as anybody, but when you need a toslink cable and just can't wait they rock. - Josh
We all saw it coming while we still all like to walk in and FEEL the stuff before we run off to buy it online. - Amit Morson
They're closing the store in Morgan Hill; it opened up in September. Most items are 10-20% off, which makes them only slightly more expensive than the same item at amazon.com. - Glen Campbell
I still want to look at stuff in person, hold it, see how the buttons work, check the heaviness, etc. CC sucked, but it still provided something you can't get online: touch. (Btw, I quit CC after they fired all their experienced floor sales force, but I still go to Best Buy.) - steplow = Steve Lowe
I'm not particularly surprised but I thought they did a very good job with buy online, pick it up at the store. - AJ Kohn
With CompUSA gone and CC gone there will be very few places to FEEL stuff... - Amit Morson
Maybe Fry's will open more stores. I'm more likely to find the various cables and parts I need there anyway. - Chris White

I have trouble accepting 64 % ... seems to me there are far more alienated republicans right now than ever. People who blame Palin for lowering the profile of the party and alienating the intelligent, successful and largely fiscally conservative *majority* of the GOP. Those wingnut, bigot, hillbillies Palin lathered up constitute a relatively small proportion of GOP supporters (social hardliners). - V for Veselka

What a bunch of crap. Nothing in that article says anything about the criteria of the survey - how many people were surveyed, how many responded, etc. It could have been 100 people or 50 people or 500,000 people. It doesn't say that i could find, including on the link the article linked to. A smart journalist would have asked: what was the basis of the survey? That is what defines the outcome, more than anything. - Patricia
With the media spotlight on her and being held tightly in her hands, I'm sure she will do something so stupid, disturbing or controversial that she'll be an unhappy footnote in US political history by 2012. Or will have a talk show w/ Elizabeth Hasselbeck on FOX News. Whichever? :) - David Monroe

Basically, I installed Windows Vista x64 fresh in Boot Camp on my Mac Pro. Works like a charm, as usual, but I can't get any of the Apple drivers installed because 'setup.exe' on the Mac OS X CD keeps telling me that the system has a 'pending restart' and to reboot first. I've rebooted about 20 times, to no avail. There seem to be plenty of discussions on Apple's message forums about the problem, but no answers. Anyone know what's up and how to get around it? - Don MacAskill
I can help you over here. But I'm running out for 20 minutes. I couldn't DM you on Twitter because you don't follow me. This isn't an unusual problem for Windows users. It's known to happen when installing Kaspersky antivirus. What happens is that a flag gets set in the registry telling Windows it has pending operations to do after a reboot. It either never happens or the information doesn't get erased from the registry. Let me know if using WhyReboot? works or not. I'll check back shortly. :) - Dr. Apps
Don - do you see anything fishy in your event log? Do you have any pending updates in Windows Update? The msiexec log or your eventlog should have clues to help debug this - Sriram Krishnan
Dr. Apps - I'll definitely try WhyReboot in a few minutes. Hope that helps. I haven't installed any anti-virus software (never have in my life) or anything like that - this is a fresh, fully updated Windows Vista Ultimate x64 install. Only app I've installed is 'Steam'. - Don MacAskill
@Sriram Krishnan - After about 10 reboots, finally, no, I have no Windows Updates. Why on earth it takes so many reboots to simply get full updated, I'll never understand, but I'm finally done. I'll check msiexec and the eventlog as soon as I reboot back into Vista. - Don MacAskill
I just brought up Kaspersky as an example of the pending reboot behavior. That example can also be the fuel to search around for solutions. It's funny because I have seen the pending file renames/operations/reboot issue in Vista very often. Used to see it in XP quite frequently. Actually just to confirm, the bootcamp driver intall is a MSI based app, correct? I haven't used BootCamp in a long time so I forget. Good luck. Let me know what happens. :) - Dr. Apps
Apple doesn't listen to social media, unfortunately - Jesse Stay
@drapps WhyReboot says "No items were found". Boot Camp's installer still says "A system restart is pending. Complete the restart and then retry this installation." Any more ideas? - Don MacAskill
I've heard all sorts of horror stories about 64 on boot camp. You're better off with 32 if you can manage. :/ - Josh
Darn. I'm going to have to look into it first hand to see if I can figure it out. I won't have any additional input until tomorrow. Maybe somebody else will chime in in the meantime. I've never run V64 under BootCamp so I don't know how much of a horror show it may be (as Josh stated above). But if that's the case, that stinks. Vista 64 is the way to go if you are going to run Windows on a nice machine. If it doesn't work well under BootCamp then that stinks for power users like Don. - Dr. Apps
