It's his personal blog. I'd be pissed too, if one of my employers told me I had to take down something on my blog. It's not like he posted it on Newsweek's site. For me, that would be anything from Crystal Waters. At one time, Gypsy Woman and 100% Pure Love were high on the list. I just deleted them from iTunes after years of skipping them. - Louis Gray
Also include: Anything by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. One time, they were seriously alternative. Now, I just skip or change the station. - Louis Gray
Achey Breaky Heart. Cotton-eyed Joe by Rednex. All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth (ok I was 8 when I last liked that one) - Phil Glockner

I'm theorising that great music from 1976 and before has remained great, whilst anything that has been labelled as great since the end of 1976 has, in fact dated. The further we get from 1976, the quicker new so-called great tracks age and cause us annoyance. ;-) - Slippy Lane

Prophesy of economic collapse 'coming true' - environment - 17 November 2008 - New Scientist
7 hours ago - via Bookmarklet - Link
"Things may seem bad now - with fears of a world recession looming - but they could be set to get much worse. A real-world analysis of a controversial prediction made 30 years ago concludes that economic growth cannot be sustained and we are on track for serious economic collapse this century." - Sean McBride via Bookmarklet
Please identify an instance during which a century passed without a "serious economic collapse" having occurred---worldwide. - eggsy
The question is, what will be the magnitude of the next serious economic collapse. 10 billion or more people trying to consume the dwindling resources of the planet at a ferocious rate could well trigger something apocalyptic in the way of an economic and civilizational collapse. - Sean McBride
this very post and many like this help driving the economy even further down the road..! - Hayk
Hayk -- but what if these projections are right? Water resources alone are being stretched to the limit to satisfy the demands of 6 billion people. - Sean McBride
At some point, Hayk, something -anything - needs to be a wake up call for all of us to fight together to make change. Nothing seems to do the trick. A lot of what is going on now has been forecast for years and years. People wouldn't wash the car or head to the mall if the weather said a tornado was coming - it's the same concept here. - Patricia
Okay, I'm calling BS. Saying we can't talk about a possible depression that's coming at us is like not preparing for a huge hurricane. It's irresponsible for people not to prepare for economic times that are worse than we've seen. Negativity did not create this problem. Over-optimism did. - Chris White
Exactly Hayk. Look, water is an unrelated issue, that was already developing, especially in the Mideast. If everyone just calms the f*** down and continues as normal, this whole problem can sort itself out. Note: the main thing these gods up at Capitol Hill need to do is slash interest rates and urge the FHA to cut the mortgate rate, allowing as low as 4%. This will bring back buying power to this economy and kick up the housing market which is the REAL place that needs help, not the damn banks. I'm done. - ♣genieyclo♣
Slash interest rates? I are you insane? The fed rate is already at 1%. What possible good would that do? People aren't going to lend even at 0%. You know why, because they want to keep their money. I bet you could get people to pay you money to keep their money in treasuries. It's about safety, not making returns on investment. As for the real estate market, have you considered the prices for houses were over-inflated? Keeping those prices inflated is not the answer, it is the problem. - Chris White
@genieyclo, yeah that's not going to work. I can't see how stimulating spending can be effective - at some point, people just aren't going to have the money to spend. Things that aren't put together well fall apart. This has been a long, long time in the making. - Patricia
On a purely intuitive level it often seems to me that there are way too many people, consuming way too much, generating way too much waste and pollution, and wreaking way too much damage on the planet. It is easy for me to imagine the sudden collapse of human civilization as we know it. It also seems to me that if we were smart, we could manage our way through this critical moment in human history. But we would have to pause and think about what is really going on and curtail our unrestrained greed. Either human beings are going to deal with these problems, or nature will deal with them for us -- probably in the most brutal of ways. - Sean McBride
@Chris @Patricia Thank you, I've learned something. On what Sean last posted, I would like to say that this era we live in will be crucial to the future for a number of reasons, one of the main reasons being how the whole "system" being flipped on its head right now, politically (we have Muslims, Socialists in Sentate, and a black Prez) economically (no need to elaborate :), environmentally (the work being done by researchers is just amazing these days), and technologically (this is the most apparent). - ♣genieyclo♣
It'll be very interesting to see where this all goes, especially with this all happening with the most techy generation coming of age. The world order will be very different.--just a thought. - ♣genieyclo♣

I was just trying it out here at the office, and it's a nice proof-of-concept for voice recognition. In terms of actual use, it's apparently very susceptible to background noise, which seems like a major problem (after all, using it in the car would likely be the most often scenario). Otherwise, good start. - Ryan Twomey
