I'm grilling using real hardwood charcoal (from whole foods) I doubt I'll ever go back to briquettes, which are chemical laden and impacts the taste of the food, about the same price, (I use gas when short on time, like weekdays)
What's your heat preference? - Jeremiah Owyang
Here's someone's review on the Whole Foods Charcoal. interesting tips about seasoning the actual charcoal with salt and pepper http://www.nakedwhiz.com/lumpdat... - Jeremiah Owyang
I was given an electric grill a few years ago since I have MCS and need to avoid what you talk about, Jeremiah. I like it. I think I have tried the hardwood once before and liked it. - Melanie Reed
I prefer gas grills to charcoal grills. I invested in a good Weber gas grill when I bought my house a year ago. Big difference in quality between the Webers and the $300 Lowes/Home Depot jobbies. Gas grills start up quicker and unlike starter fluid gas doesn't impart any odor or taste to your food. It's just the much more convenient way to grill, in my opinion. - Alex Scoble
Melanie what is MCS? - Jeremiah Owyang
Alex, with speed comes the cost of taste. There's a time and place for each I've found (weekend vs weekday) - Jeremiah Owyang
I'll put my flavorizer bars to a pepsi challenge with your charcoal any day of the week :) I don't think that charcoal will beat gas for taste. And if I want to give something a nice "woody" flavor I can just grill it on a cedar plank. - Alex Scoble
Multiple Chemical Sensitivities. Had a big pesticide exposure several years ago and left me with immune system and detox issues. But I am much better than I was. I live in a John Bower "Healthy House" http://tinyurl.com/6knvzk - Melanie Reed
Alex, have you tried smoking wood chips on the gas grill? I've done that in the past, it's kinda 'touchy' you have to baby it. I also throw rosemary on the grill for heavy smoke --great for big meats like lamb or steak, but too heavy for seafood or chickent - Jeremiah Owyang
Melanie, I truly wish you the best, yikes! - Jeremiah Owyang
Thanks, Jeremiah! It was "yikes!" in the beginning, but it was the best thing in the world to happen to me as it brought me closer in relationship to God. I simply had to "tune out the world" and live differently...if I wanted to get better. In the process, I learned more about Him and for that (while I didn't like the pain) I am very, very grateful. :) Wouldn't trade it. Made me stronger....different sort of "olympic game" event training. ;) - Melanie Reed
