If you want followers don't turn off your autofollower like I did http://twittercounter.com/compare...
But do you regret it? Is less follower audience worth the cost of less noise for yourself? - manielse (Mark Nielsen)
No, I don't regret unfollowing and turning off the autofollower. My main goal is engagement, not fake followers. - Robert Scoble
Agreed. However in Twitter, I wonder if these people also are RTers or just add no value besides a mutual number on the counters. - manielse (Mark Nielsen)
Holden: not true. I watched Loic's and Calacanis numbers flatten out when he turned off autofollower. Yes, mine will go up, but slowly, and maybe slower than yours did. Why? People are still unfollowing me because I unfollowed them. - Robert Scoble
Mark: exactly. I'm still following new people, but only those who demonstrate that they are geeks, know me, or are bringing something else to the table I want to listen to. - Robert Scoble
auto following is not a bad thing per se but it does allow lots of spam to get in - Seth Goldstein
Robert, how come you're not following me..I know I'm not a geek but you know me and I have great posts :)))) I'm playing, you do know. - Myrna
Exactly I don't follow anyone from Blogcatalog or Mybloglog here at Friendfeed. With all that drama over there, I needed to separate from that smut. I simply wanted a place where there was more quality content. There comes a time when you have to make a quiet exit. - Jeunelle Foster
My God Scobe, setting a standard or something? Good to see someone from the IT geekdom say "you know what, I/we need connection here". That desire is what has gotten web 2.0 where it is. IMHO these internet marketers, etc are putting these tools (Twitter) at risk of abandonment by fostering the creation of a hollow shell with their focus on numbers (followers) without meaningful connection. - Chad Gesser from BuddyFeed
Auto following caused a lot of automatic retweeting and this spam filled up the twitter board, hiding the quality content away from us, lot's of people got pissed and it caused breaches in password security. Some of these auto follow tools were automatically retweeting every friggin 10-15 mintues without your permission and linking back to your twitter account, a great way to lose your good friends. Quality is where I'm going, not Quantity. - Jeunelle Foster
if you want followers, provide something of value to them. Then focus on the value you can get from those you follow. Aside from the stray person who just wants one more "guaranteed" re-follow, mass following people is actually a disservice to those who rely on you for up-to-date information or opinions since the signal:noise ratio sucks so badly. - ax0n
+ Chad Gesser - Myrna
Myrna: I am following you. But here where I can easily talk with you, rather than on Twitter. - Robert Scoble
Robert, I told you I was playing! <3 - Myrna
I posted this a week or so ago but got limited opinion. But as Scoble just said, if I follow someone on Friendfeed (that links Twitter and is active), is there a value in following on Twitter as well? Seems like it's just an echo. - manielse (Mark Nielsen)
Robert, but thanks for answer! - Myrna
While I'm not one that agrees with autofollows, do you think you would have near as may followers now if you only followed those 1,800 from the start? Or do you even care? - Adam Reyher from Alert Thingy
I want genuine followers, you know those super dedicated folks that are satisfied only when your community comes to life. - Mark Essel
Ahhh.. but now you are followed by those who love you as opposed to those who just wanted a followback from Scoble! :-D Love is better! - Amy Flynn
Adam: I'm sure that some of those that I now have as followers wouldn't have followed me if I hadn't autofollowed. True. But then if I really worried about such things I'd be begging @ev to add me to the suggested follower list. That's the REAL way to get followers you don't earn by doing great content. - Robert Scoble
I still believe engaging and quality followers is better then Quanity - Rob Cairns
ahhhh, see the future passionate ones integration of depth associated with conversation and content (FF) coupled with the ability to integrate personality and personal history (Fb) ..or something like that - Chad Gesser from BuddyFeed
Great way to get rid of all that SPAM. Good for you. I'm doing the same. - Jonathan.Rivera

Mine too, and now I can't even focus on work. I just became a MJ fan two weeks ago... awwww, I'm in after the harsh judgment. :( (edited to be less nasty) When I see someone suffering, I feel compassion, because I too have suffered. If you have not suffered such intense pain as MJ clearly did, the correct response to that is gratitude, not condemnation. In my humble opinion, of course. - Lo

@Simon, this has nothing to do with talent. The influence he has had on pop music speaks for itself and will never go away. Just because he was accused of something by people with questionsable ethics themselves doesn't mean we can (or should) go and remove any reference to him or his influence on the music people are producing today. - Kenton

Re: Using Traffic Geyser To Manage Your Videos - http://www.eventslisted.com/eventla...
"Google now have software that coverts audio into text which allows us to search by key words that are used in videos. Duplicate video content can be easily identified through words as it can in text documents and this product is live in Google labs. I introduced it in my Google open social video. Changing headings etc may work against you because it looks like you're gaming the system. Publishing the same videos on different platforms is not duplicate content if the same author is publishing their video across 100 platforms. It's like a TV show being played on multiple channels across the world. Changing a shows title and description to make an audience think its a different show on different channels is what Google don't want. It's only duplicate when different authors publish the same video across different platforms especially if heading and descriptions of a video are different yet the video is the same which they can tell by the words spoken in it. That's why its important to use..." - Simon Ford

LEO: I really enjoyed this episode and the sort of "big picture" look at technology and culture. It made me think of an idea for a TWiT show. After taping nearly 150 episodes of "Design on a Dime," HGTV's $1,000 makeover show, Kristan Cunningham learned a thing or two about money-saving renovations. So when the interior designer and her longtime boyfriend, Scott Jarrell, moved into a Venice canal district rental last year, they gave themselves a $1,000 budget for a kitchen face-lift and decorated much of the house with finds from big-box chains and vintage shops. - Derrick
"You either have the do-it-yourself spirit, or you don't," Cunningham says, sipping a mug of coffee in her now-cozy, French farmhouse-inspired kitchen. "We knew we were going to be in this house for a couple of years. But since it is a rental, Scott and I tried decorating it with low-cost design ideas." - Derrick

RUSSELL LEWIS, a 37-year-old graphic designer, really liked his one-bedroom apartment in Leigh-on-Sea, a fishing village an hour east of London. It was hardly extravagant — a rubber plant, a fish tank and an old recliner were his main possessions. But the apartment, on the first floor of a white-brick town house, is uphill from the ocean and offered plenty of light. Then his girlfriend moved in. - Derrick
“It was dreadful,” said the girlfriend, Gemma Ahern, 36, recalling the mildewed bathroom, mushroom-brown carpet and outdated kitchen. “It was very much a bachelor pad.” Luckily, Ms. Ahern had recently switched jobs; she had been a freelance florist, then became a design assistant at her sister’s home furnishing and interior design shop in London, called Atelier Abigail Ahern. Short on... more... - Derrick
But no matter what they tried, the sterile white walls and bland kitchen still brought to mind a bachelor pad. Nothing short of a total makeover, they decided, would do. So they pooled their savings — about £6,500, or $10,300 — to overhaul the entire 1,200-square-foot apartment, starting in May 2007. - Derrick

A little video I put together showing you my Twitter "workflow" using Tweetie for the mac. I elect to setup multiple twitter accounts to manage different groups of people. The latest build of Tweetie allows you to get very granular with notifications from each account. Setting up groups via multiple accounts solves 2 problems, cross app group syncing (think phone and desktop) and the Adobe Air bloat. I just love the speediness of a native client. The little blue notification icons indicate when one of my groups has new posts. I only post out using my @davesenior account. Not the quickest way, but probably my favorite overall solution to the grouping problem. - Dave Senior from Bookmarklet

I'm a long time fan of QS, but -for the sake of infosharing- you can do quick unit conversions using the Google Quick Search Box as well. +1 Jeff; would be happy if apple integrated something like quicksilver; I thought spotlight would become a quicksilver killer but it doesn't offer the same indispensable object-action style of interacting with items etc. I must have OCD because I've accumulated over 1000 address book cards and quicksilver just cannot handle this without crashing for me! - Franz Sittampalam

Re: Adding Google Friend Connect is an example of how hard it is to join the 2010 web - http://scobleizer.com/2009...
"Gray: you obviously are not a careful reader of what I wrote. I know how to use FTP. I'm trying to make the point that normal people don't know what FTP is anymore so asking them to "upload" files, and then not help them do that, makes a process overly complex in today's world. It's your attitude that turns mainstreet businesses off of this whole business in the first place. It's arrogant to demand that ANYONE know how to do this stuff." - Robert Scoble
mainstreet businesses are still trying to figure out email and im. Don't wait for them Robert, they are going to be wiped out quickly, loudly and painfully, I'd focus on the new generation of business that appreciate this stuff. Social xyz and stream abc sound like some geek event to most of them. You can say GFC all day long to most mainstream businesses, they will behave like they get it but they are probably thinking you are talking about KFC. - Tweet Feeds
I think I must be one of the few people who still remembers how to use FTP protocol, considering that it's the only way I have ever known to upload files to a web server (other than the upload functions from MySpace and other social networks). Where technology went wrong is that it has become too simple; there's no thought to it anymore. Now, all you have to do is click a simple button and your content is available. - Thomas Ward
I agree with Thomas. Making things simple has resulted in way too much rubbish appearing on the web. It muddy's the water. I'm astonished that Robert has forgotten how to use ftp when octagenarian grandmothers are using it in Internet Explorer to upload pictures of their grandchildren to websites they created on free web hosting platforms. We should never have allowed this technology to escape into the mainstream. - Gilbert Harding
Gilbert and Thomas, I suspect you engineered your own cars so you can get to work in the morning, right? Wrong. People driving cars do not need to know how to design them or build them. The same is true for web technology - LPH™ and his dog P™
I don't agree with your point.Only people who have their own site will need to upload via FTP. And these people know how to. In contrast, non-savvy people will use blogger.com or wordpress.com where the service has already installed the friendconnect plugin. - Régis Décamps
LPH that isn't entirely true but your point is well made even if the analogy is little old. However making things simpler to use often makes them far more complicated, and your average motor car is a prime example of that. The web is going down the same road. - Gilbert Harding
Wait a second, so some of you ACTUALLY believe the web should only be populated by folks that are technical enough to post their content. That's just plain ignorance. The greatest artists, musicians, writers should keep doing what they do best and let the techie folks make sharing their information as painless as possible. Having an "elite" or special privileged group status to share information on the web is blatantly wrong on so many levels. Have a problem with information overload, build better filters! - Mark Essel
