Google to SEO’s, Designers & Advertising Agents: You are Off the Map! | Understanding Google Maps & Local Search - http://blumenthals.com/blog...
Yesterday, Google's Joel H has definitively confirmed that, at least in the whole of the US, Canada & the UK, they are no longer showing the 7 Pack on queries

Shout'em is very handy for micro blogging in a niche so it should be great for yours. It does a good job with aggregation and you will be enjoying it. :)

Just one note if he is the one with the http://twitter.com/johnwor... with no photo, he has no basis of understanding and doesn't even know how to utilize it, much less pass judgement. If he isn't and has an account that was utilized then it's more relevant. So many people want to be social media experts and claim they are and yet they lack the experience or understanding. So it's irrelevant, though his face to face less than 20% of his Facebook Friends use Twitter.
- James Stratford
Hrm. That kinda illustrates the whole point, James. Friendfeed is the perfect example. So many posts have been written about it by people that hadn't a clue. Others saw these sources as authorities on the subject and believed whatever was said. Experience and understanding is relative. Johnny is spot on here :)
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
utter utter nonsense Johnny you're out of touch
- Thomas Power
...liked the rant on the strength of this gem alone: "...[m]y space may be a bath tub in a sea of fact..." a clever turn of phrase, and an unintended diss of MySpace as well. kill two birds. +1^100
- .LAG liked that
I agree with Johnny. The mere cost of generating enough followers and building yourself up to be a 'trust agent' a la Chris Broggan far exceeds any business value that can be derived. Here is the test -- how many tweets do you actually read? I'll bet you'll say those on your preferred lists, perhaps 20 people. The other tens of thousands go unheard. Now scale that. Twitter is dead as a social and especially business social medium.
- Doug Wolfgram
James, two things... I have a photo (I photoshopped the FriendFeed DoubleFs inside the Twitter no photo avatar) and I have over 30 saved searchs on all the topics I want to read about. I use Twitter very well, I just don't go around telling everyone just how shit hot I am at it...

Rock on Johnny.. rock on!! and I agree.. 95% of my friends are on facebook and could care less about twitter. That doesn't mean I don't find some value.. but it's awkward and difficult to explain the value to non believers.. facebook doesn't require an explanation or a value sell!!
- Chris Myles
I stood up in front of an audience of 1,000 tech geeks and developers 2 months ago and had the exact same response.
- Jesse Stay
I find it funny that James even found this post on FriendFeed, since he doesn't seem to spend a lot of time here (has a lot of subscribers though, which is interesting). I understand the sentiment of being sick of self-proclaimed social media experts, but also entertained that he bashes Johnny of all people. Johnny may not be a social media expert but that's mainly because he just finds...

Twitter's not dead, considering it's now appearing at the top of Google search results. Considering the 3rd party app store getting a new round of funding. Considering it's a serious target for hackers. I don't particularly care for Twitter myself, but it's very much alive.

Raphael, before that, FriendFeed got top billing in Google... Things change

ah-mazing he is absolutely, positively the funniest person I know I am sooooo looking forward to coming home and seeing everybody :-)

Told someone today, who isn't from Texas, that I ordered tamales for Christmas Eve. Their response was surprising: "Why in the world would anyone have tamales for Christmas?" It's interesting to see different ways people celebrate in other areas. We have tamales on Christmas Eve and a big family dinner on Christmas Day.
Good tamales are very good. Not that they're traditional xmas fare for my LA family. I'd probably be more into some really good beef enchiladas for xmas.
- Spidra Webster
My mom almost always hosted Thanksgiving and/or Christmas for the relatives. One Christmas she decided to change things up and did a Mexican dinner with enchiladas and tacos and a whole bunch of other stuff (no tamales, though, dangit). Everyone devoured it, but complained that they still wanted a "traditional" meal.
- vicster is...
Right around the corner, in Marina del Rey, are some of the best tamales you can buy at Tamara's. The best tamales you can eat are the ones you make with friends/family.
- ɐ ɯıʞ sıɹɥɔ
Tamales are traditional here. When I was younger, I used to go to tamale making parties. I'm so used to seeing tamales on had tables that's always shocking when I run into people in LA that don't have them. On the flip, my Jewish neighbors in my old place always had Chinese food.
- Admiral Anika
Ritual is pretty important to a lot of people. There's just something about having certain foods to mark certain times of year...
- Spidra Webster
Josh, there's a great place near you that makes AWESOME tamales. You should try them. Spidra, we have a very casual Christmas eve, opening presents, just hanging out, so maybe that's why. The more formal celebration is the next day for our family.
- Trish R
A Christmas tradition could be anything. If your parents raised you on Xmas dinners of tamales, that would be traditional for you. My family has never had a traditional Xmas meal. That is, they've never stuck with any set menu. Whereas Thanksgiving menu is locked in. My mom makes a traditional kind of breakfast roll for Xmas and Easter breakfasts, though.
- Spidra Webster
Those Tamale things look interesting. When we lived on the mainland we would usually have a cold Christmas (salad, cold meats, potatoes etc) because it would be so warm.
- Bryce Roney
Bryce, wish I could send you and Mo some to try. They're awesome!
- Trish R
Hee. I never heard of that tradition until I moved to Austin. I order some every year from my friend's grandmother.
- Cheryl
Where are these poor, tamale-less backwaters? ;-) One can find tamales in Beijing, of all places.
- Christopher A Carr
Your response should have been: Because not everyone eats the same damn food for Christmas? Ughhh people kill me. It's just like it's a Panamanian tradition to eat pork for New Years dinner.
- Shevonne
Joel's family always makes tamales for Christmas, it's a huge tradition for them.
- Michelle Martinez
It all sounds good and is purely based upon traditions. I may be a yankee, but Tamales are always good and would fit in well with Christmas. Some Enchiladas and other items would add a nice selection.
- James Stratford
I go to my sister Vicky's house and we have mostly Italian and lots of desserts.........and sometimes on Christmas I have Chinese food ......

My Giftmas tradition includes cookies for breakfast (only day of the year that was ever allowed) and an enormous lasagna for dinner that is about 4x the size of a standard one. There is another tradition for New Year's Eve that includes homemade pizza baked in a 30+ year old electric tabletop pizza cooker handed down to me from my stepmother, who started that tradition when I was a kid.
- April Russo (app103)
that's a southern tradition too shevonne: pork, black-eyed peas or hoppin' john (black eyed peas with rice) and greens -- mustard, turnip, or collard -- on new year's day.
- tiffany
The Mexican market near work were taking pre-orders for holiday tamales.
- Rodfather
I shall endeavor to spread this holiday tamales idea up here in the NW.
- Christopher A Carr
We're planning on having tamales, it's our Mexican tradition!

Here in Appalachia the common treat for Xmas morning is fried oysters. Not sure why, but since I like oysters I'll stick with local tradition (when I can remember to order them - they go quickly!0.
- jcunwired
I think everyone should plan a trip to Texas next year for the holidays and we'll all have homemade tamales!
- Trish R
Never had tamales on Christmas Eve, although I've heard of people having them. We often have homemade lasagna - you know, the kind that is a pain to make but is oh so good.

I'd prefer to use Google's method: http://code.google.com/apis... . Few reasons: a) Not an appspot domain, meaning I won't run into any service down limitations due to overuse, b) Google tends to support their APIs over long periods of time, and thus are more reliable, c) Google's method allows for a callback parameter, meaning I can use it with AJAX requests without cross-domain problems.

Wow, a robot that is conversational and versatile. It's very innovative if it keeps up we can each have one in our homes like on television in the 60's and 70's. Great share!
- James Stratford
At first, I thought that androids wouldn't be as efficient as one-task-oriented robots. But as I see more and more concepts in this area, human-like machines seem to have a great future. Now, I wonder how we will make our mobile and our personal droid co-exist: will our mobile only "assist" our intelligence while the robot will share its own, independent thoughts?
- Jérôme Flipo
I think private companies will be first to make droids available to every one. They will offer us to adopt one of their robots for free, every time we visit them. In exchange, they'll know a little about us and "share" some purchase advices. Then, buying a personal machine will become affordable and free us from intrusive advices and privacy issues... before a cool company will offer to...

Thanks for the heads up on yet another tool for monitoring brands and keywords. It took about 10 seconds, but the search was relevant. It's a great site for the toolbox.

It's an incredible 1st time experience and exhilarating all of the rest of the time. It's great that you had the opportunity! Enjoy! :)

An interesting change which will help the hearing impaired as well as for people to have a way to make videos more relevant in search.

Bookmark for first comment on FF. apparently I signed up and forgot to use it.

We look forward to you coming on and utilizing it when your time frees up some Mike.

I signed up for FF in February. I don't think I started using it until April. I find it funny that this appears to be my first FF post.

first one ;) may b u can change colors but as theme? definitely first one =]

The one on the right caught my eye first than the one on the left because of the pictures. The text on the left catches my eye more than the one on the right.
- imabonehead
I love the photos on the second one best!! I like both designs, but like the first design a little better.
- Rachel Lea Fox
The one on the left with the top pic of the right swapped for the first pic. Not that I enjoy being difficult or anything. Is this Tinyprints?
- Heather Solos
I like the one on the left better, but the first picture could be replaced with the photo from the bottom left on the right version and it should say 2009 somewhere.
- Clare Dibble
I like the big picture on the right the best; the kids look great and they're facing the reader. And the pop of green brightens the card.
- m9m, Crone of FriendFeed
If it's a personal card, go with the one on the left. If it's for professional/business acquaintances, go with the one on the right.
- Curtiss Grymala
Easy -- on the Right. Bigger pictures over bigger fonts on a holiday card every time. They're not for reading, they're for looking at!
- Eric Borisch
I would like to put in a write-in candidate for a card with a picture of the whole family - Paul, April, Camilla, and Thomas. I like seeing the adults too!
- Robert Felty
I like the photos on the right, but I like the design on the left.
- Karen Padham Taylor
Thanks for your help, everyone!! :) I think I'm going to go with the design on the left, but replacing the picture on the left panel with the picture in the middle panel and putting the picture from the bottom left panel of the design on the right in the middle panel of the design on the left. (Am I confusing you yet?) I'm also going to make some changes on the font, as well.
- April Buchheit
They both look good, but with the change you decided on it'll work very nicely.
- James Stratford
Rob: Getting a picture of the whole family has proven to be a difficult task for the Buchheit family. Obtaining collective cooperation from all members (both children and adults) is a daunting endeavor.
- April Buchheit
Heather: Yes, this is from Tinyprints. :)
- April Buchheit
April - tell Paul I'm expecting the full family for 2010.
- Robert Felty
April, I work @TinyPrints so won't be much help deciding:) But, you know we're local in Mountain View right? Happy to set you (or anyone else) up with our best discount if you're interested. Feel free to reach out. I'll need to DM the code.
- Rick Bucich
April, it sounds like it'll turn out cute :) We have four kids and can't get them all to look at the camera either. I went with a single shot of each to save my sanity.
- Heather Solos
Facebook is a social utility that connects people with friends and others who work, study and live around them. People use Facebook to keep up with friends, upload an unlimited number of photos, post links and videos, and learn more about the people they meet.
