laconica has an advantage from using PHP. Deployment is pretty trivial on most web hosts as a result. This is not to say that I don't think Pinax is really cool and that I don't appreciate having it released as open source. I'm thinking of using it for a way to tie together my alumni group. BTW, you might consider positioning Pinax, in part, as Drupal for Python/ Django as a as way for quickly communicating what it can do to that crowd. - Erik S
