It already has had an effect by changing how much power the traditional "bundlers" have had (people who raise large amounts of money).

The internet will definitely have an effect on the outcome of the election. It has already caused the younger generations who typically have not paid much attention to politics, to become engaged & register to vote.

It also makes everyone a couch strategist. There's so much information available now that before was privy only to those on the "inside" that everyone has the chance to feel like an "insider". It all goes back to Dean's campaign though. He was the first to galvanize the internet and carried his 50 State strategy over to the DNC when he took over.
